Graham Davis just posted on finding a job, and I can tell you that an internshp goes a long way in making that happen.

This winter/spring semester Ingenex Digital Marketing is looking for a few star interns. If you are good at social media, enjoy writing blog posts, or simply want to take a deeper dive into graphic design, analytics, web design, or content marketing then an Ingenex Internshp may do you well.

I'm curious have you had a good internship? Write about it in the comments here. And if you can commit to 15 hours of work next semester (2 days min) and want some great experience, then apply at Ingenex for our digital marketing internship. Our interns have gone on to great success and fame. And so could you!

Digital Marketing Internship

Comments & Feedback

Student

My current job as communications coordinator for MSU Residential and Hospitality Services has given me an experience equal to that of a communications/marketing/advertising internship. Every day, I work with project managers on projects for the residential, culinary and hospitality services. I have gained great experience in internal and external communication, website content management using Drupal, knowledge in business support systems used by the university, and micro-management skills on projects I've single-handedly taken on for managers.

Student

INTERSHIPS ARE KEY! Today everyone is or should be doing an interships in their time at college to be competive in the job market today. After gradutation jobs are comparing you to hundreds to students just like yourself, you have good grades, were involved in a club, and even worked an on campus job. Sorry but its not enough anymore. They want to see you have the experience, cause I am sure if you don't someone else probably does. Do internships!

Student

I interned 2 summers ago for a digital marketing firm in Grand Rapids, MI called Mindscape. I had a great experience and I had the opportunity to blog and control their social media for length of the summer. It was most definitely a positive experience and I am glad I did it, however I don't know if that is somethin gI would be interested in doing for a living.

Student

Just like a lot of people that has commented on this post, I have yet to experience an intership yet. I have held a management spot at Taco bell a few years back. It helped me gain experience in the workforce, and help me for the future shall I be in the same position in the future. The lesson on this class has been very helpful with future outlook.

Student

Internships in advertsing are crucial in having a leg up on the competition after college. They give you a realy good idea of just what exactly you will be doing, and make you more marketable in the long run. I haven't had the chance to take up an internship, but I have been actively searching for the right one. Anyone with advice on how to secure the best one for you, comment and let me know!

Student

I had an interestingI had an interesting internship at a local design house in Lansing. I really enjoyed the work and the people, but I definitely had a bit too much time of my hands at the internship. It was a little off putting at a certain point to go in and not have anything to work not. Not that I’m complaining! I did get some good experience in and was able to work in multiple areas of the company and was able to see what I was interested in. That being said I think a more intensive internship would be extremely exciting and something I’m looking for in the next semester, maybe see you at Ingenex!

I finished my internship with Quicken Loans at the begging of this fall and I cant tell you how much it helped me.  It taught me about how to act in a professional manor and how to work towards a goal.  Along with the great experience I received I also gained a plethora of contacts that I can reach out to in the future for advice and guidance.

Student

I total agree with you on the amount of resources you gain from interships. There just seem to be so many people willing to help you out within the organiztions that you intern with. Although, I have never found myself begging.

Student

I have had an internship with Xperience Communication, a marketing firm based out of Dearborn, Michigan. I have traveled across the country with the team working on marketing Fortune 500 companies including Ford, Lincoln, and Volvo. I have held leadership positions within my internship and have developed team, communication, and management skills all while working for this company. After my internship I received a job offer with the company and work events at Ford Field, the Suburban Showcase, and the Michigan International Speedway to name a few. These events have helped me grasp a better underdstanding of the marketing field and how the business works.

Over the summer I was an inter at an equestrian apparel store, which was extremely informative since I hope to get into the small niche of equestrian advertising once I graduate. This internship was extremely helpful becasue the company gave me free rein and allowed to complete access and control of all the company's social media outlets. I was incharge of managing the Facebook, Twitter and Instagram page of the company over the summer, while also coming up printed advertisments that were published in equestrian magazines.

To be an international student, internship is difficult, we need to prepare more than local students. Internship can bring many of benefit in our future. To be honesty, internship is an awesome opportunity to improve you and get more chance to get the real job. Internship can bring you more experience. To do the social media internship is my first step, I have resume, and however, I didn't send to any company, I am afraid to send, because I don't have any experience to get my resume perfect. Digital marketing is make me interested in and I will apply for the job online because this would be a great experience for me.

Student

I have not had the opportunity to experience an internship yet.  I have however, held a management position at Walnut Hills Country Club for the past 2 years which I feel has been a great way for me to gain experience in the workforce.  I just recently have started doing some marketing for them to reach potential clients and gain additional business.  I have used my own personal facebook as well as the company Facebook and Twitter pages to tap into the social media market.  The lessons in this class have been very useful with my current job opportunity.

This summer I had an internship at The State News. It has been an incredible help to me. It didn't teach me what I wanted; I still don't know what I want. But, it helped me understand what I don't want (sales). It has opened doors for me and I have gained insight in the industry. Internships are SO important. My only regret is that I didn't realize it sooner. Otherwise, I'd definitely have more than one under my belt.

Student

I agree that internships are very important for one to be successful in the future. I am currently searching for an internship and this seems like a great opportunity. It is exciting to think about getting into the real world and I think getting an internship should be an experience that everyone should have. I am still in the hunt for an internship for next semester so I will definitly check this out.

Student

I have had a good experience with an internship in the past. Although I do not plan on working for the company in the future, it was a great experience and resume builder. Internships are a great way to figure out what kind of company you want to work for after college.

Student

I have had one internship so far with ANR Communications at Michigan State University. My internship began in April, went through the summer and has continued into this semester. I set aside about 12 hours a week at ANR Com. I am their media relations intern and I handle things such as press release writing, editing and posting articles, creating webpages and writing articles for their website.

Student

I have not yet had a good internship experience, yet am definitely looking for one. I realize how important having a good internship can look on your resume and mine definitely could use it to put me ahead of others in my field.  I hope to find a good internship sometime in the near future that will benefit my career further.

Student

I agree that having an internship is a very important part of getting a succesful job after graduation. I had an internship with DirectTv two summers ago and it was a very valuable experience. It was a very tough job but I learned a lot of advertising and sales. Currently, I am in the process of securing a sales internship with a company for the summer and I really hope to translate it to a full time offer after I graduate.

Student

I had the opportunity to have an internship this summer. It was an awesome expereince to find out what I liked in business, but also what I didn't. I got to have a hand's on experience with every day tasks that I'll have to endevor in the near future and I feel better prepared for that because of my internship. I'm currently trying to find another one for this next summer and can't wait for what lies ahead with it!

Student

Internships are definitely the best way for students like us to get our foot in the door for the correct career path. They allow for experience within the field and experience working with different people and companies. Just like any other job, experience is key. Unfortunately, I have not had the opportunity for an internship. I am working on building an outstanding resume that just screams my personality to perspective employers. I feel that because I have spent so much time trying to make myself look good on paper, I have actually lost out on opportunities because I am not confident in my resume, therefore I do not apply for these positions. My dream job would land me somewhere between advertising and interior design. I would really love to create ads for a place like Pottery Barn, but that does not mean that I am not open to other career paths. I am willing to take any experience in the advertising industry that I get. Make sure you keep an eye out for an application for Christie Whittemore, it's heading your way soon! :)

Student

I agree with what many others say here, internships are just as important as class as a part of the college experience. I currently intern at Michigan Creative, a marketing start-up in Lansing, about a 10 minute drive from my house in East Lansing. Here I work on creating brochures, branding, logos, and web content for clients, mostly local Michigan companies. I also interned at the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra in Ann Arbor, which was very different—instead of being in an all-creative, all-design-oriented environment as I am now, there I was the only person with any knowledge on the subject. I think having both internships helped me be better prepared for a career in graphic design and marketing.

Student

I agree that internships are very important when finding a job. I believe that in order to know what your calling is in life, you need to experience it first. I think internships do a great job of showing you an insight of what your future career will entail. I have yet to have an internship but am applying to many for the summer right now. I have heard great stories about internships as well as some not so great stories. However, I believe they are necessary to reach gain experience and reach success.

Student

I have yet to have an actual internship because I am interested in Public Relations and Event Planning. The hard parts about that is that they are either too far away or they are non paying but wanting close to full time hours. I'm interested however in getting an internship if it will help me get to the field that I want to be in once I graduate. I can see this helping me because although Public Relations is different, it is similar and can use some of the tactics that are learned in many advertising and marketing based classes. Also I have experience in both, just through many organizations where I've learned branding, event coordinating and other great skills that I can apply.

Student

I have had an awesome internship and I am excited to be able to talk about my experiences in some upcoming interviews. Last school year and this year I have been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to intern in the Alumni Relations Department for MSU's College of Communication Arts and Sciences. I assist the Alumni Relations Coordinator with the planning, organizing and execution of alumni related events. I have had the best time and have learned so much from my supervisor. It has been a very helpful experience to be able to see event planning first hand and all of the technical work that comes along with it!

Student

Actually, I did not have an internship. However, I am wondering if i can experience next summer. My ideal internship is to lead me feel the real working condition. As a college student, I read a lot cases from textbook, but I did not really attend in. Moreover, I also look forward the company culture and concordant team relastionship. Colleagues relationship is different from friendship, therefore the new relationship will lead me in a new view.

Student

I would love an internship that allows me to grow. I do not want to be an errand boy, but rather someone who is brought in and taught things that can't be taught in a textbook. Real life experience is the best teacher and I think an internship is the perfect real life experience. It will look good on your resume along with help you meet new people and gain new skills.

Student

I am currently a student assistant the in the Public Relations office at the Michigan Bureau of State Lottery. The experience I have gained a lot experience from the job and have learned so much in the short 6 months that I have been there. One thing I have learned while working in the Public Relations office is that customer service is IMPERATIVE, even when you’re speaking via email or over the telephone. I have gained experience in writing press releases and some of my writing has been published on the official Lottery blog! I am looking forward to learning more while working in this office and am excited to see what opportunities will come from my experience gained at the lottery.

Student

I have never had a real internship opportunity, however I do work a lot and always have. I wonder how important it really is to have an internship on your resume when applying for jobs. Of course I know that it gives you experience in your field and puts you ahead of others, however for my situation I work two different jobs that I need to survive, and I wonder if it is really going to affect my future if I do not have an internship?

Student

I had a pretty good internship experience, that helped give me a good direction. Having started in Computer Engineering i love to code, but am graduating as a designer. When i started my internship they gave me a pretty open choice of the area i wanted to focus on. I did a little of both designing and coding to start. I began gravitating toward coding side, which pushed me in my spair time to develop those skills more. I was happy to develop and design for them and really liked the openness they gave me. I would love an opportunity to add to the ingenex team and learn from those in the field doing what i want to do.

I have an internship with JCPenney's this summer and it was great!  The company is in their rebuilding phase, as the media lets everyone know, and seeing the proactive steps the company made and that I was able to help, was great.  I hope JCPenney get's into the clear after their holiday season, they're a great company and they are ALWAYS giving back to their community.

Student

I haven't had a great internship experience. I won't mention the name of the company, for their sake but I am currently looking for an internship that I could actually learn from. My last internship didn't allow me to do much, and was somewhat unprofessional.

Student

I have never worked at this place, but I did intern at a small PR firm in Farmington Hills, Michigan this past summer. I did a lot of social media managing and enjoyed it a lot. The firm was called Near Perfect Media. I could commit to 15 hours next semester, this seems like a good opportuity. I have never done any graphic designing, but I knwo it is a really handy skill to have in this field.

Student

I did not have an internship before, but I am going to apply one in next summer in Singapore. I am excted to join the company for the internship. And one of my friends had attend one in last summer, which she told me that it was really fun experience that could learn a lot. I think it is important to find an internship that you are interests and what you are major in. In this way, you can get used in the job and used to be in one of them.

Last summer I have worked as a intern in a Advertising agency back my home country Brazil. It was a great experience for me because while my intership was going on the Soccer World Cup was taking place in Brazil too. This experience was very exciting because I had a chance to work into developing ads related to this huge event. Me and my team created one of our clients facebook page and Instagram purposly created for the world cup time posting videos of soccer and news of whats going on around the soccer world.

Internships are really important to have, especially if you pursue a internship that is in the field you would like to work in professionally. You can learn what you do and dont like about the field that you are pursuing. You have the opportunity to test out the waters before you go diving into a job, you get to see what the job has for you before you take on a full time position. On a positive note internships can help you learn more about the field you want to go into, and can help you gain the experience to get a job faster or even increase your pay when taking on a full time job. Who you know and experience is the name of the game when it comes to landing a job these days.

This past summer I took part in my first internship. It was a commissions position with The State News selling advertising space for the fall welcome week edition of the paper which happens to be their largest paper of the year, both in size and income generation. This was my first glimpse inside a sales position and it gave me a lot of valuable knowledge about (mostly what not to do) dealing with my own list of clients. It was my job to meet weekly and monthly goals as well as to work with very tentitaive deadlines on a daily basis. I worked as a part of a sales team which presented its own twist on the summer position. Working in a office setting getting along with the same group of people day to day presented its own obsticles. All and all it was a great internship and it was something that I will look back on fondly. It provided me with lots of real world experience that will certainly be beneficial to me getting my foot in the door somewhere these first years out of college.

I had my first internship at Beijing Television Station for two months this summer. I did campaign planning, campaign management and public relations. Also, I assisted in managing the public blog page of our department. It was a great experience and I learned a lot from it.

I'm an old fart. I've had five really incredible internship experiences thus far. However, the ones that have stood out the most have been the flexible ones where I can grow as much as I want. When an internship is unpaid, there is a very fine line between how much an intern is willing to work and be passionate without pay. The internships I have done my best work at have been the ones with powerful non-monetary pay off or incentives. I currently work for Midtown Brewing Company downtown Lansing. My incentive is free craft beer and food, and when I can try their products I am more willing to be passionate about what I’m marketing for them across social media platforms etc. I believe the key to a successful unpaid internship is to feel something positive for the amount of work you put in!

Student

Interenships are so important to have. When you are applying for a full time position people wont even look at you unless you have had an interenship. You learn things from an interenship that you cant be taught in a classroom. I have had my interenship since JAnuary and I have been working 30 hours a week, which is pretty managable with school. I have learned things about sales that I was never taught about in the classroom.

Student

I have done internships since I was a sephomore. I must say working in real field is extremely helpful to gain concepts and sences of the specific industry i dedicate myself into. I am really sorry that i dont have time doing an internship this semester. But I do encourage undergrads to take this chance to learn as much as you can.

Student

My first experience was working as a Brand Ambassador for Neuro beverages, assisting the launch of the first Midwest promotional campaign. Our team helped make major improvements to the brand such as changing the name of one of the flavors (because it didn't work well with some consumers), proposing new product designs, and getting the product from small, private-owned stores in Southeast Michigan to all 7-11, Meijer, and other big accounts throughout the Midwest. As a brand ambassador, having direct communication with consumers and providing their comments/concerns to management made a HUGE change in improving the company's sales and overall image. It was great to be part of a team that helped the brand grow from ground-level and amazing to see how it evolved over time. This experience allowed me to see advertising as the "big picture" and how it is so important to a company's success.

I knew right when this class started that it would not only teach me, but serve as a great resource for finding an internship in the future! I truly feel you wont be prepared for entering the work force unless you have experience in the field! Internships are a great way of gaining this experience, while taking classes.

Student

I have yet to do an internship; a task I am currently in the process of completing. I have worked the last three years in university development, essentially raising donations for MSU. The job has been a great experience so far and has taught me much about sales and communications; part of the reason why I had stayed on so long. However, I would like to expand my horizons beyond sales and am now looking for an internship, primarily in marketing.

Student

I still don't have any internship yet until now. I just become a senior this semester and I want to find some internship. However, I have a lot of credits for this semester, so I have no time and energy to focus on internship. I plan to take less credits next semester and try to find a internship that related to my major. Actually, I went to the career fair of college of communicaiton arts and science once. I think it provides me a lot of informaiton. Now, I am so happy I know Ingenex that is also a way to help me find a internship. I will apply for it and try my best to find a internship for my career in the future.

Student

The one thing I always hear as a advertising major is that having multiple internships is a great way to set yourself apart. This summer I was the design intern for a holding company that owned most of Lansing's major radio stations. I'm currently interning at a ad agency in Lansing and a on campus position, both for graphic design. I transferred to MSU as a sophomore, and didn't settle on a major until the beginning of my junior year. This certainly put me at a disadvantage time- wise for having multiple internships. However, I am very dedicated and somehow managed to pull it off.

I think one of the most important part of having a few internships is that it allows you to see different work environments. This summer the place I interned at was very fast paced, compared to where I am at now which is very relaxed. If your career path requires a portfolio, a internship is a great way to build it up with a variety of work that you probably would not normally do in class.

Student

I had an internship in the marketing department of an educational institute. My job was to operate the company's Weibo page, updating new contents daily and promote the courses we offer. I was also in charged of the official account of the WeChat.

Student
I interned with Quicken Loans last summer. It was a very different experience than anywhere i had worked before. It was a good experience working in an up and coming city. Detroit is a beautiful city on the rise and a very buzzing and exciting place for yourg people. Definitely a good experience and something i am proud of.
Student

I actually have not had an internship yet but am hoping to get one this summer. I have been looking at diffferent jobs that offer internships and am trying to get one in chicago. I currently work for Jackson National Life in East Lansing as an Associate. I process data, reqeust forms, and other changes that need to be made on someones insurance policy. It is a friendly enviroment and everyone is really helpful and nice. One thing I really like about working at Jackson is that I am able to make my own schedule as long as I am available for atleast 15 hours week.

Student

I am currently a social media and advertsing consultant intern for a company called Music Brackets. It has been such a great experience. I have had the opportuntity to utilize all my skills in social medaia as well as assist with the marketing and advertising plan for the company. Creating creative content for the company's website has been the best part of the job so far. I am excited to begin executing the advertising plan we have come up with and reaching out to consumers. The job does take a lot of time and dedication but I love the work.
