So the latest rumor in the tech space... - Google is expected to sell "Terminator Glasses" which will stream information, entertainment, maybe even ads in augmented-reality-like fashion. It must be true - The New York Times and Mashable said so.
They were also reported to build Driverless Cars, invested nearly $1Billion in Clean Energy Technologies and companies, buils its own high speed fiber network in Kansas City (Google Fiber promises data at speeds more than 100 times faster than what's available now) and apparently have a mysterious Google X Lab where more crazy ideas are developed
How does that fit into Google's core products and it's philosophy?
Is Google a "One Trick Pony" that really is only good in Search and should stick to it, or is it an innovation hub that should continue to create and push new products, services and technologies.
Comments & Feedback
I think that Google reaching out into other enterprises is a great idea. If Google wants to continue being one of the biggest companies in the world, it needs to shift with this rapidly changing world. Google as an innovation hub gets me very excited with what they are going to come up with next. In my marketing class, we have talked about marketing myopia, which is a company’s focus on one specific thing that they are good at and not changing with the world around them. Google seems to be rapidly growing with the world around it and it is exciting to see.
If these are able to record video...I am curious to what that will mean for the movie industry. With pirating already rampant, how will theaters adapt to google goggles? I think they will have to make them very obvious otherwise everyone who wears eyeglasses to the theater will be suspected of wearing them.
Google, already, most definitely is not a "One Trick Pony." Yes it is a great search engine. But Google seems to be taking over so much already. It has Gmail for email, Google Earth, Google+ for a social network, Google Maps, is connected with YouTube, and countless more! I think Google is good at what it is doing right now and should just stick to it. Creating new products, such as the "Terminator Glasses," is a little extreme. Google is more than just a search engine; it has something for everything. It has evolved so much from what I remember it being when I first started using it. Google is innovative with what it does and creates, and I don't think life would be the same without it.
I think that Google is a phenomenal company that provides many great services outside of their standard search engine and should continue to create new products, services and technologies. I currently use a Google app on my cell phone called Google Goggles. The app allows to to take a picture of virtually anything which is then scanned for any relevent images such as logo, structures, or street signs and then provides google search results on the particular items. This is great for when I want to find information on anything that I may come across in the physical world that I have little or no knowledge of. The glasses would be really cool because it would combine the online world with the real world.
Google has already proven itself to be more than a "one trick pony." Search engines are merely the front door to the Internet, and no one wants to solely be the door man (albeit, a highly successful door man). I love the corporate attitude at Google, which is exemplified by their offering of up to $1 million dollars to anyone who can exploit bugs in its web browser, Chrome. Google has maintained a quirky and fun attitude despite its size and magnitude of success. Pushing forward into more product categories with that same mentality will ensure Google's continued affirmation among the public.
In my opinion, Google has already proved that they are not just a "one trick pony". After completing this week's assignment, I have seen some of the new and innovative tools that Google now offers. It has expanded from a simple search engine to include a plethora of features. One of the new aspects of Google that I find most useful is the mobile features. When I had an Android phone, the navigation feature using Google maps was extremely useful. It was something that I used on a regular basis because it made traveling much less stressful. This feature was always accurate and easy to use. I feel that Google should continue to create new products, services, and technologies because these creations are truly beneficial to daily life. Google has become a household name in new technologies, and without them the world would be less technologically advanced.
Google never ceases to blow my mind. In my opinion it never was a "one trick pony," I use it constantly for everything. At the first in class session with this course I was absolutely shocked with the new google wallet idea. Google is always coming up with new things and it should always continue to push new products, services, and technologies. Google is a company that is always raising the bar and going above and beyond what I expected with every new technology it comes up with. I've been using gmail since its beta days and love it and it still keeps coming up with amazing new useful features. I also have been using Google+ since it first came out and like it so much better than facebook, I just wish more people I knew were on it! I liked learning about google analytics and using it on my blog and from the reading for this week learned about many other google features as well. Overall is an amazing innovation hub and they should never stop doing what they are doing!
The more I think about what Google is doing, the more it seems like they are trying to monoplize the whole internet. Google should just stick to being a search engine. Google is starting to get really annoying with all the ads, and top search results that has nothing or little to do with what you are trying to search for. With the help of this class, I now understand why certain things come up while searching for information on Google. Even this class is promoting Google and getting everyone familar with what Google offers. Kind of off subject here, but the taking this class helped me realize how important Google should be to me as a Lansing native because the co-founder is from Lansing/East Lansing. But look around town...no where is any sign of Google affiliates to be found.
Google has always been a search engine for me. But I am afraid that my belief is shaking now. As a company boasting innovation, Google has brought us too many surprises. Gmail, Google Map, Google Earth, Google+… Some of the projects are not so popular to survive. That’s the talent of Google. They don’t waste time and money on projects that are not worth it. By doing this, Google is able to know what the future trend is, and can focus on the projects that can make them more money. Obviously, Google nowadays is not just a search engine. And I like their last philosophy-- Great just isn’t good enough.
After completing this week’s assignment, I can say that I truly think that Google is an innovation hub that should continue to create and push new products. In my opinion, I think that they have been able to recognize products/innovations that don’t work. That is a huge strength in the company, so why not keep inventing. I am impressed daily the more I continue to learn about Google and the amazing tools they offer via the internet. However, we will continue to have to hear crazy allegations merely because Google is innovative and extremely successful. I say keep at it Google!
I believe that Google has already gone way beyond being a search engine. With doing this week's homework and playing around with different Google Tools, I wuold not put it past Google to be working on these new technologies. Google is definitely an innovation hub with the very successful android system and helping businesses position themselves on the web. I think that working on these new technologies is keeping faith to Google's philosophy. The very first principle is "focus on the user and all else will follow". Creating new products and services for Google's consumers is definitely focusing on the user. Google has changed everything about the web from the second it became a company, and it will continue to grow- as a search engine and as an innovative house.
In my opinion, Google is innovated and I don't think that they should stop at being just a search engine. You can't necessarily improve if you don't try new things; being innovative and creative helps to create new ideas, new products, new services and new technologies. Why not try and push themselves to create driverless cars, that would be AWESOME. Google isnt a "One Tick Pony" and no one aspires to be a "One Hit Wonder." However, sometimes that happens, cough cough Devo. Thankfully, the only thing Google has in common with Devo is the use of the primary colors.
Google focuses on many things but one of the most pushed focuses is the user. It's obvious that as a user, I want different things from Google several times daily... I am not the only one in this scenerio. Google IS an awesome, fast and efficient search engine, but it is so much more. I think those who work for Google should continue to push their new ideas every day in hopes of creating something new and awesome.
Google is not a "one trick pony." I mean Google has stated they activate 850,000 android devices a day. That is amazing. Google is now a verb, which is also amazing. It is most people's number 1 go to search engine. This draw that people have to Google shows the comfort people have in Google. Now, Google could use this comfort people have in them for evil, but that is against their philosophy.
I feel Google should keep innovating. If they don't then other companies (cough, Apple) will continue their planned obsolescence, and continue to slowly update the market. Consumers should thank companies like Google for bringing innovative competition. This will continue to push all companies to making great products, which will only benefit the world (but not my wallet).
I for one welcome the computer overlords that is Google... I just hope the Google glasses will be semi-affordable at first, and will won't be ridicules looking...
Google seems to try everything these days including the fore-mentioned driverless car as well as the Facebook opponent, Google+. Google has the ability to test new technologies that many other companies have no business or expenses to do. This allows them to test new waters in regard to the otherwise untapped technologies by investing, marketing and ultimately testing them in real sense. The goggles themselves may just be another failure (like 3D tvs) but the technology that they possess could be very innovative for the future. Sometimes it isn't whether the original idea fails, but rather if the technology itself can be adapted and applied to future products. Google may also have something special that will change the world of tomorrow in how humans interact and receive information. Streetview is a very successful technology that lets people that may be navigating a new area to visually see the area from the street. This is just one example of an innovation that Google has produced and there are many other untapped technologies to be adapted for everyday life and use. Google will tap any useful technologies that it can and is in no way whatsoever a "one trick pony".
Over the past year visual-art obsessives have been having a field day with the feature of the Google smart-phone app called Google Goggles, which allows a user to shoot a picture of something – a painting, a photograph, a poster – and in seconds see an identification of the image and a list of search results for more information about it.The app, which was introduced for Android phones in late 2009 and last year for the iPhone, has been getting much better recently at digging up the title, artist and art-historical provenance of the work that the phone camera is looking at. Part of the credit for that can go to holders of huge art-image databases like the J. Paul Getty Museum

Needless to say, Google is NOT only good for search. It's not just good for email, either. Google has become an integral part of my life over just the past month. Google creates solutions for problems people haven't even thought of yet, which blows my mind. However, I hate that Google probably knows me better than I know myself. I remember deleting my Gmail account a couple of years back when I heard someone say something about Google keeping all of my emails even though I had deleted them. These days, that's a pretty minor detail to worry about. To think Google knows so much about me... I don't even want to think about it. But when Google makes my life 30 times easier with Google Docs, Hangouts, and Reader - just to name a few - I can't imagine my life without it.
Google has always provided ease over anything else. If you have a problem, Google it. Connecting everything possible together through the fibers of the internet, Google is so much more than a One Trick Pony. This power house of a search engine is able to bring the world together. We see things already created such as the Google Phone and therefore the new crazy ideas go along with Google very well. Crazy as it may, they are very innovative. With innovation in mind, I believe Google to keep growing and anything they do will be greatly appreciated by the world. They create easy as a search engine, why not make everything else easy as well?
I consider myself to be pretty up to beat with the latest technologies, social media platforms, and just general internet phenomenons in general. With that being said, I have an appreciation for innovation with all of the bells and whistles, just as long as they're usable, functionable, and just make sense for the practical day-to-day pace of our busy lives. For me, Google achieves everything I'm looking for in a user friendly cutting edge way. It began with Gmail, then YouTube, then Blogger, Google Docs, and the list goes on. In more recent times, Google+ has offered that extra element of unique innovation that gets my mnd thinking but still fits in with my own needs without having to change my patterns and uses. I would not consider Google to be a "one trick pony", but there is a foundation and underlying philosophy to the company that makes it relatable and relevant to the general public. The common user shouldn't be underestimated or limited in terms of comprehending brand new material, but as Google pushes to be at the forefront the real needs of its user should be considered above everything else.
As many of my classmates agree, I too do not believe Google is a "One Trick Pony". The company culture at Google is made of dreamers and you can bet that marvelous ideas will flourish. As one classmate pointed out, $3.5 billion this quarter gives the tech giant a lot to work with and I think r&d should definitely be invested in. After all, they are still the #1 search engine by FAR, so it's probably good to look into some new opportunities!
Google is very successful at their search engine and I believe that they should continue to create and push new products, services and technologies. They are a leading company and it is important for them to innovate. They are coming up with the next big thing and creating new opportunities. The "Terminator Glasses" and Driverless cars are things that could be successful in the future if perfected. I do not think they would be ready to come out with these new innovations yet.
I am always amazing when I hear about something else Google can do. These things like the car and the glasses are crazy to think about. I mean they just sound so futuristic to me. My opinion though is if they have the technology to figure this stuff out, go for it. I mean obviously with testing and regulations but why not. My only concern is that one of Google’s core principles is; “It’s best to do one thing really, really well.” That thing for Google is search. I just hope they only expand from search and not move away from it.
Google is a MONSTER of a company that provides awesome working conditions for its employees. Why? To stimulate innovation and allow employees to have pet projects that are DREAMS, like the Google X Lab. While I think google is always going to have its core search product, it's already created some amazing innovations.
It should continue to pursue new technologies, but not at the expense of the core business.
Google is undoubtedly the future of online networking innovation. Their “One Trick Pony” act allowed them to grow into something much bigger. They are at a point where the available resources for computer science R&D are almost endless. As a highly valued employer, they are continuously recruiting the best of the best for their internal operations and development. It is only a matter of time before something like these Google Glasses came about with the technology within reach. I'd say keep doing what they're doing, dig deeper into new products and expand into something that will change the world. With the increased ability of communication through technological developments, I can see the possibilities for these envelope-pushing technologies.

I do not believe that Google is a so-called one trick pony. The company has been expanding, creating, modifying and more since it's inception many years ago. Like our class reading The New Media Driver's License Resource Guide explains at many times, new features are being added, modified and sometimes even subtracted depending on usage and feasibility. The company seems to be updating and improving its online presence on a daily basis. I think I have yet to read an edition of the Wall Street Journal that Google is not mentioned in. I think Google should keep pushing to create new products, services and technologies because its not only something the compnay is good at, but its also what people love about Google.
The thought that Google should suppress their innovating is just about the least innovative thing that could be thought. They are revolutionizing the technological industry and yearn to create the next big thing while also ever-improving the things they have already mastered. Their search engine is always getting better and being well-maintained while they continue to push new products and services. It would be one thing if they started projects and didn't finish them, or had too much on their plate to handle, but that isn't it. These glasses seem like a bit of a novelty now, but perhaps could become a household item in due time.
I know that my brother, Brian, constantly degrades Google and all of its might. He doesn't like how much the company knows about us or how much power it holds in the world today. Yet, Google's philosophy isn't to get to the top at any cost, I truly believe that they exist for the people and to better technology for tomorrow. Their statement of "Great just isn't good enough" wraps up their company pretty well. Just because they have a great search engine doesn't mean they should stop there.
It's hard to think of Google as a "One Trick Pony" considering the enormous, available data they have from people around the world. In increasing their capabilities, Google not only dominate pretty much any sector they choose to go into, but they would be a head of the game due in large part to the information they have attained from internet users around the world. Google is truly a potential innovation hub that should continue to create and advance new products, services and technologies around the globe. Looking at Googles core products now, compared to ten years ago would have seemed to be out of there philosophy, but the world is changing. People and their needs have been continueously changing as well, so it makes sense that organizations adapt to this as well. This is a pretty interesting article on Googles Top-10 Breakthroughs.
After reading all the articles and some of the other comments on this subject, I believe I have come up with a pretty decent opinion. I remember in class when we discuss how Google is not just in the search market. For every Google idea that makes it to the big stage, there are a handful of Google ideas that do not make the cut. Since Google is the internet powerhouse (profiting over 3.5 billion last quarter) they have money to play with. We live in a world in which you must have money to make money. I do not believe at this time Google should come out with these glasses. Yes, they need to push the envelope and open doors to new products and innovations, but not in this sense. Google is great in the internet sector but are they ready to come out with these glasses? I believe Google should wait for some of the technology to come out, then make it better. This is what they did with Google TV. The TV has been out for years – Google made it better. Unless Google want to buy a couple companies that specialize in this area, I say stick to what your good at without spreading yourself too think and do not lose sight of your identity.
I think it's important for Google to continue innovating and pushing the boundaries in technology. Without a doubt, they have proved to be the leader in search engines, and yes, they are really good at that. Part of their philosophy states that 'great just isn't good enough.' This statement fits with the high tech ideas Google is working to develop. Although some of their plans sound a bit ludicrous and unattainable, I respect them for taking the risk, because it will only push others to do the same.
After taking a minute to click through the provided links and check out the sources provided, i've found that a lot of this information is content that i've been reading about on various tech blogs for months now. I think that it's truly fascinating what Google is pursuing. I honestly can’t think of a better company than Google for projects like these. I’ve always been impressed by Google’s business demeanor, and to hear about Google researching far out ideas is really exciting. In my opinion, none of these conceptual models give reason for any fear. There will always be fear mongers looking to bring down the substance of success because that’s just how the world is, but Google has my utmost confidence in their endeavors.
I agree with the latter claim. There should be organizations attempting to push toward new products, services, and technologies, and I think Google is a powerful company that has the ability to do so. New technologies can change our world in drastic ways that may often be of great benefit to all of humanity. In this sense, Google is somewhat obligated to explore into new territories. Like Spider Man's uncle said, "With great power comes great responsibility."
Some may argue that such crazy ideas may lead Google too far astray from their scope of business. Although they may be entering new markets, I think they would be smart to do so and they are obviously quite adept to do so. If I remember correctly, Google employees are permitted one full day a week to focus on any project or endeavor of their choosing. Many elements present in the Google workplace and policy foster creativity. They welcome new ideas and innovations allowing them to deeply invest in a better tomorrow, just as they should.
We can’t live without Internet, Internet can’t live without Google. To me, google is always the best information searching engine. I am used how simple and efficient google search is. I can easily know the numbers, location and simply everything I need to know. I know there are other searching engines, but I will stick with Google.
Other functions like googol map, google document, google+ are already part of our lives. It is already like water to me. I have GPS in my car, but every time I want to go somewhere I don't know, I just google-map the location, and I will get the exact place location with phone number and places around. For group projects in all classes, we will use google document. Everyone can see and edit our group document at same time online, it is definitely the most important application for college students. And even I log on facebook almost every day, I still keep my google+ account and look for the “what’s hot”, and I will get really useful information my friends share on it.
Google is obviously expending and creating new product or service for all Internet users, and I think it is going to only benefit our lives, for doing business or just for entertainment. Talking about we inspire google to expend their products, it’s better to say google inspire us and surprise us in good way everytime new things come out.
I think that it's great that Google is interested in researching crazy things trying for new innovations and technologies. Since Google is a company, they are using their own resources to provide research and break new boundries, rather than tax dollars like the Government, allowing for Google to be more flexible with their research and preventing potential tax hikes or uneccessary spending.
As for whether or not it coincides with Google's own philosophy, you could easily argue that these new innovations, products, and technologies are for the user which is number one on the list. While Google might work on many different products and services, they allocate their resources and time well, and they are doing one thing and doing it well: Providing new and exciting things for its users.
While Google has done an amazing job and performing and innovating in the web search market, I think that a branch out of some kind, like the example of augmented-reality glasses, is only natural. Google’s branching out to multiple services has been like the evolution of Google. For Google to stay relevant, they need to stay on top of the technological and marketing world as it changes. Such glasses would essentially be bringing search to the world. As such, I think it does fit in with their main product of searching, and of course they would probably do it very well, like they do with their current products.
To be honest, I had to look around the website to make sure this wasn't some type of satire, The Onion type article when I first started reading. It just seems bizarre to me that Google would be interested in creating something like that. It doesn't really seem to fit into their mission statement too well either. Google likes to "do one thing, really really well". To me, when I think of Google, I think of (obviously) a search engine and Gmail. These glasses and alike projects seem to stray from their existing philosphies.
The first time I heard about these new "Terminator Glasses" was when I was scrolling through one of my favorite sites, Brobible.com. The first thing I thought of to compare them to were the MP3 player sunglasses that Oakley came out with. Those were marketed and sold with what I think was pretty marginal success. The idea of having these new Google glasses sounds like a great idea in theory, but I'd like to know a little bit more about exactly what their capabilities are going to be.
As far as Google being a one-trick pony I think that is a ridiculous notion. If they stick to being just a search engine with a few apps, then they will eventually fall behind the curve. It's always good for companies to be innovators and these ideas above are exactly the kinds of things that can keep Google at the forefront of the technology and Internet industry.
Personally, Google will always be a search engine FIRST. I find myself typing things into Google even when I know the website simply because it’s easier and takes less time. We turn to It for articles, for maps, for everything. I think it first and foremost is a search engine, but I think it is successful enough to branch out and innovate. If Google was to stay the same and not better itself, something else would come along and take it’s place. Google is constantly bettering itself and increasing the expectations for other search engines, and I think that’s why we all tend to continue to use it.
To me, Google will always be a search engine first, but I think it's great that it's expanding to be so much more than that. Google is a leading innovator in all things technology, and I think the only way to remain in such a position is to keep pushing the limits and create more products that make its consumer's lives much easier. As long as Google has new products and services coming out, I will be paying attention.
I think Google has proven itselft to be the King of Search, without a doubt. As a company who continues to expand its search capabilities and technological advances, it's not unrealistic to think that they would reach into other tech spectrums. I think this may prove quite risky, but could easily see them sponsoring another company or going into a joint venture to explore tech options. Google's brand is synonymous with proven technological products, which could easily influence consumers to buy into another tech option. There may be a limit to the variety of search options Google can offer, or they may have reached the point of needing to diversify their employees, and they may be looking outside of the search realm to continue to stand at the forefront of internet and technology standards.
I believe that because of Google's amazing success in the area of online search, venturing out into other opportunities would be a good idea. Most internet users rely on Google to provide them with the best search results. This given, if Google came out with another amazing product or service, most people would be inclined to see what its all about. The services the company has provided over the years like Google Maps, Google Doc, ect. have been very reliable and a success. If Google wants to start selling "Terminator Glasses", I say go for it!
While Google is definitely most well known for being a search engine, they are constantly striving to come up with new technologies or expand on those already being implemented. If they can come up with new ways to make using the internet easier, faster, or more efficient then there's no reason why they shouldn't persue it. Some of the ideas mentioned above seem a little ridiculous such as driverless cars, but still every new inovation can't be a homerun. If Google has already helped make the internet how it is today practically then they should keep striving to push the envelope for new technologies because I'm sure they're capable of much more.
I think the fact that Google does search so well is only a gateway for the company into bigger and better things. It is true that successful companies can maintain profitability by focusing on the things they do well, but in Google's case, the thing that they do well is innovate. If Google was just a search engine, we wouldn't have Google Maps, Google Earth, Gmail or Google+. And those are just the simple ones. Google doesn't hit a home run with every project they execute, but neither does any company. And I'd wager that Google's ratio of success is high enough for them to decide for themselves how adverturous they'd like to be. For me, Google is one of my favorite companies and always has been. I am excited and interested to see what the next big Google project will be.
I think Google is more than just a search engine because they have tried to develop many other features recently, such as Google plus, Google Wallet, or Google Analytics which make people’s life easier and more convenient. The world is changing faster and people want something more creative. Therefore, I think it is good that Google continue to create and push new products, services and technologies. I am very much looking forward to seeing products and services that Google come up with in the future.
I think that Google will make itself to be more than a "One Trick Pony" by expanding it's creativity and pushing new products, services and technologies. Google is such a well known name and it has done so much for their business already, that it will continue to grow and move out of the "One Trick Pony" classification and expand even further. I'm not sure how I feel about the Google Glasses; if it actually happens, it's going to be quite odd seeing people sitting their with these different glasses on trying to get their information off of that. It might be a step people aren't willing to take, but perhaps Google is on to something? It's something to look out for, and I don't think I'd pass up the opportunity to wear a pair of glasses and get all the information I need without really using my hands.
I cannot help but be thankful for companies like Google. It is because of these companies that continually strive to innovate and grow that we are able to live the kinds of lives we do--become the kinds of professionals we are working to become. I think Google does a really great job of acquiring talent and allowing their employees to think innovatively and create new and fresh ideas for the future.
If we categorize Google (and other companies like it) in the “one trick pony” category, I think we’d be making a huge mistake. By limiting them, we’d be limiting ourselves. If they can ethically work to enrich the world through technology, I’ll certainly be behind them all the way!
I think it is perfectly fine that Google is expanding into new things and new areas. Google has done so much and came so far i think it is a good thing to see what is coming next and where else the company can go. The rumor might not seem like something Google has done before but it is important to switch things up and not be so predictable and give your consumers something different to look forward to.
Personally, I believe that Google is a "one trick pony". However, I do not think this is a negative thing. Google not only specializes in Search but it dominates in that category, and I believe they should stick to what they dominate at. Google is attempting to be everything for everyone but I don't always think this is appropriate or necessary. An example of this is Google+, Google's attempt to crack into the social media networking avenue. I know first hand, through speaking with my friends and classmates, that most people do not use Google+. Twitter, FaceBook, and now new sites such as Pinterest are dominating the social media scene. I do not believe that Google+ has taken off quiet like Google anticipated. It seemed like they were trying to compete with these sites and offer a new spin on it, but I believe it was unsuccessful, at least for the target market of young adults 18-24 (which I believe is the dominating target market of social media sites).
Google is like an Apple, in the sense that both companies are extraordinarily run and are filled with brilliant innovators, scientists, engineers, and developers. Companies that regard creativity highly in their philosophy should, in my opinion, do whatever they can to utilize these talents and skills fully, and that means trying new things. Take for instance Apple's creation of the original iPod. That was new generation. Look where it has taken us now. iPad's, Mac Book pro's, just to name a few, are brilliant creations. That's what they do. While Google's main focus isn't creating things and its speciality is Search, Google + is a perfect example of something new and creative that has taken leaps and bounds since its implementation. Obviously, these new Glasses are a stretch, more off the wall type thinking, but you never know where things like this can go. It could fail. It could be brilliant and completely change the world and how we look at things. Creative companies should roll their dice when it comes to these things and take their chances, because more often than not, it's something that is going to set the world aflame.
I think that the brains behind Google are proving themselves to be more than a one trick pony. Like other comments below, I think that if the people have good innovative ideas, then they should work to develop them. Google has already changed the way we use technology and the internet and has built up a trusted brand. People might be skeptical of these new proposed projects because Google will be dabbling in so many different fields, but I think that someone would have came up with these ideas sooner or later. I think it is great from a marketing stand point for Google to work on these new projects showing they are more than just a search engine.
I don't understand if it has the innovation, creativity and ability to make the world different and better, why should it just stick to search. After all, the mission of Google is to organize the world's information. But information is not only about search. Google has proven to expand the concept of information and change the behavior of people. For years, Google has been always an innovator dealing with all kinds of information, if it's not evil, why stop it?
I think that its a smart idea for Google to branch out. It is already a huge company and while I'm sure there is some expanding left to do in the search engine business but I can't image there is much. The only thing I would worry about is that Google is one of if no the top search engine site, they should expand slowly to make sure they keep their quaility high or else they will become like other companies with their fingers in too many projects at once. As far as the glasses idea goes I think thats insane and wouldn't be interested in owning a pair ever, technology now seems like it has to take everything to the max and it just gets creepy.
