Consider sharing it with your friends.

Website links probably feel so mundane you hardly think about them. Over time technology can become so ingrained in our daily life we rarely stop to think about its impact. Consider the modern combustion engine in cars. Most days I don't even acknowledge it's existence as I drive from my home to the office. When I stop to think about it, I'm reminded of just how incredible it is. Here we have a machine that creates tens of thousands of controlled explosions every minute allowing us to travel at incredible speeds. Soon, these machines will all be driving themselves.

Links are similarly under appreciated. The use of a link must seem simple, you're connecting one destination on the web to another. However links are really the backbone of the web. The ability to link documents together on a global network was the basis of creating the web. Originally websites were created to link research together, now we use them to create complex relationships between topics, people and concepts.

Links are also a critical part of search engine optimization. Google was not the first search engine, they became the most popular because their results were more accurate than all the competitors. Why? Because the founders of Google had a theory that they could model relevance and authority of any given webpage based on the profile of links pointing to it. Links are still a critical part of search engine optimization. Users also use links to find what they're looking for, making them a critical component of usability as well.

While simple, we must treat links with respect. When creating a link on the web (or in this class) you want to help users and search engines better understand what you're linking to. For this reason you never want to create a link using a raw web address, e.g. https://www.marklangschiedlaw.com. Instead, you want to link words themselves that describe the page your linking to. For example Michigan drivers license restoration lawyer. This tells search engines what that page is about and someone scanning a webpage can quickly focus on the link and know exactly what type of lawyer you're suggesting they visit.

What other ways can links be used for marketing? Be creative!

Linking to help access any information is a very convenient and fast tool. At the same time, links are a very efficient marketing tool for marketing. First, links can provide consumers with a fast purchassing channel. Consumers only need to click the corresponding link to enter the purchase page. Second, through the clicks of links, you can provide a market data for the business, which can help the company to effectively analyze the market.

I have become jaded with the attitude that links are like bellybuttons. Every website has them and everyone shares them on their social media accounts. They are ubiquitous to the point that most people don't see them when they're right in front of you on your device.

I find it a pain, when I do actually see a link to something interesting, that it isn't formatted to go to a new window. I hate having to click "back" several times to get to where I originally started. I know there are ways to open new windows to links ... but, still...

As far as other ways links can be used for marketing? Unless I'm paid to link to someone else's website, I'm going implement links to the confines of the pages to my own website.

I was not able to comment on time for credit due to my chronic health condition.

I think link formatting is important, but in my experience a lot of people don't follow best practices for formatting and/or accessibility. I like the phrase used here, "treat links with respect."

Do you know of or listen to any podcasts about online marketing?

Links are also important because they make users' lives easier. With technology comes ease, and an expected simplicity to getting information. Many consumers will not click on a long, jumbled hyperlink because they don't know exactly where it will take them. If you connect a hyperlink with a short description, you are also explaining where the user is going.

Similarly, if you don't provide a link to the place/site you want your user to go, many won't make it there since they would have to do the heavy leg work themselves. For example, if a blog is asking a reader to go purchase a clothing item, but the item is not linked, the average consumer won't Google the item themselves to purchase it--essentially losing that income.

Every company has a different marketing strategy and incorporating weblink into this strategy could be very beneficial to the company. After learning more about online advertising I have found that companies all over the world are growing online sales and leads by creating link ads. These links create a shorter path to your website which also generates traffic and fans. I would say that links are a crucial component in the digital advertising strategy.

I think link is very important for us,Hyperlinks are very useful in content marketing, they protect customers' privacy and ensure that customers go to the right page. The link also allows more people to have not been to the page, but the link can be used to simply enter the page, which simply expands the page's traffic. So I think links are a very useful thing, especially in the world of informationization today.

Student

On social media, links can be posted almost anywhere and take users straight to a desired page. This is influential in bringing more web traffic and users to a specific page which can ultimately lead to increased sales and awareness of your brand. Links make it as easy as possible for users to get straight to where they want to go and this is something that can easily be taken for granted, as we are so used to the convenience of the internet.

Since we are exposed to hundreds of different advertisements each day, it is important to make your link unique to your company. Links can also be used in marketing by using specifiic keywords to drive people interested in similar topics to your site. These keywords are crucial becuase it exposes a larger audience than the audience that was initially targeted. Successful links can greatly increase SEO by creating connections to a larger network of users interested in similar topics, interests, and purchases.

Student

Incorporating web links in different marketing techniques seems that it could be a very beneficial tool. Marketers can analyze commonalities between individual consumers interacting with different links on web pages. Then could use that data to help pinpoint their target market more efficiently. Additionally, as technology becomes smarter and more data becomes available, web link data will always be improving too. Using links on web pages could also be beneficial for maketing such that a link consumers click on becomes a word that now affiliates with your brand. That way you can help familiarize your brand image and generate SEO key word(s) for people to search.

Student

After learning even more about links and their importance for marketing, it's evident that links are an essential tool that all companies should use in regards to marketing. Links are one of the top providers for internet traffic, and with a wide variety of traffic it is easier for companies to reach out to an expanded group of audience. Links are a tool created to easily navigate around websites, and their importance in today's world of marketing goes highly unnoticed.

Student

Links are a crucial part of the advertising industry these days they are vital for people to be directed to a web page. I think that links are especially cool because they basically can be put anywhere and someone can be sent to your page. I think it is especially important for a link to have a creative domain name that protains to the webiste. If the link does not have a good domain name then it is crucial that the person advertising doesnt use the raw web adress and instead link words themselves.

Student

Internal links are of course important. Knowing that external links can be drained, internal links are more likely, and the internal links of the website have higher controllability, and the cost of investment is not high. Only the internal link links are in your own station. If the internal link is done well, it will have a better effect on the overall weight and traffic of the website and ranking. Accelerate inclusion, improve rankings, and improve user experience

Today we are used to the convenience brought by the Internet. We use search engines to find the information we need, but we forget that all of this needs to be based on links. Search engines present links in another way, which are keywords and key information. Finding information would be particularly difficult for us if there were no search engines and only links to it.

Student

I think another way links can be used for marketing is through the instagram story. A lot of young people like to use Instagram and through that, people can promote more about their products. Send out the link through the Instagram story can be useful.

Student

There are endless ways links can be used for marketing. Besides simple things like data analysis, some other examples consist of techniques using comment seeding, q&a links, and case studies. Taking advantage of using links for marketing is a budget friendly way for web designs to be successfull. Using links within my assignments has shown me an easier way to organize my content with the sources by their side.

Student

I found out the impoartance of the link in the article, it is true that most people can not notice the importance of the link, but it is more likely that nobody will find the website or the things they need in a convience way, but if there's a link, you could share the usable resource by just sending the link to the poeple who really needs it, link is a simple way to share the resource, and it's a simple way to let more people to find the information in the most efficiency way.

Links are the backbone of the internet and provide a basis for all sites that we visit, even this one. They allow for unlimited browsing and seemingly infinite combinations which each come together to create an entirely different result.

In the year or so, I’ve noticed links become more integrated into articles, words, and everyday browsing. Each click on a computer, iPhone, or tablet browser opens up a new window with a link to something. I think that incorporating links so thoroughly into articles can be useful when trying to reference something; it allows for a quick shortcut or definition of something rather than the old ways of citing sources that we learned in grade school. As an extension to this, she’s embed links provide people with quick and easy access to anything that may pique their interest. Clicking on one seemingly relevant link leads to another article, which leads to an advertisement link to another website, and so goes the ever descending rabbit hole of the Internet. Overall, links provide extra information and advertising without clogging up sites and making them overloaded with sources and information; instead, they consolidate that information on separate pages which are made available through these links.

Student

As I see, the link is one of the most important and basic part of a website or internet. It's quite logical that links make the content of the website. Like many interesting articles, news or informations are showing on the first page of the website, and people click the title to look through the content page of the article, it's actually the link get people to see what it has. This is so convenience and people have already get used to it. Links can also be creative by writing the link content as a specific signal or original proverb to attract people's attention, human's curiosity is always the biggest part to get connect with fresh things.

Student

I never realized how important links were until I really thought about their impact on articles. When I first started writting my responses for this class, I was nervous to use links. Now, I'm confident in using links because I know they help my responses a lot by letting the readers go to another link that gives more information about what I'm talking about. When I put links in my responses, I write it like "click here". This also leaves the readers interested in what the link is, since it is not simply the URL.

Student

I find that a link that's not properly implemented raises all sorts of red flags for my personal browsing, so I can attest to the importance of hyperlinks. They keep the flow of the reading while offering an optional place for the viewer to go when they are done reading your post. When they aren't implemented properly, it looks unprofessional and even dangerous (looking at you, bit.ly, all I think of with your links are viruses!) when the link is a bunch of garbled text or hard to read.

Much like your comparison to taking a car engine for granted, it's easy to forget about links. Links can be embedded in pictures, or even used to display pictures or videos! The possibilities are really endless as to where a link can go in a page. Personally, I like to use links to my social media or Art-Station using pictures, because in my field of 3D art, having a hyperlinked example of my work right there is much better than a boring, easily ignorable link that doesn't tell them anything about what I do.

Student

After rereading this blog post, I found it interesting that Google was not the first search engine but rather it gained popularity based on its use of links. Google did a great job of building links to improve traffic and improve ranking.

Student

Links are crucial in this day and age and is just as important for business. More links on a page = more traffic essentially. Links are used in marketing in many ways, especially social media. Instagram users take advantage of this by tagging all their links on their feed, pictures, and bios. Marketers can pay bloggers, celebrities, and or people with a large audience to post a picture with their products and include a tag to the business to drive more users to their site. Marketers use Twitter to tweet photos with links as their caption of their new arrivals or products that are trending. Links are a primary means of navigation and are ever evolving!

Student

I liked the comparison to the combustion engine, as links really are a complex and deep piece of technology that we all expect to work on the first try, every time. One of the most interesting (and increasingly controversial) ways links can be used for marketing is through link shorteners such as Bitly. These services allow marketers to customize links and cut down on all the unnecessary characters. These services can also track analytics and provide additional insight into a page's performance. But on the darker side, these sorts of link shortening services have given malware easy places to hide. With more and more platforms penalizing the use of link shorteners, it may be a sign that trying to reinvent links too much can have some unintended consequences.

Student

Links can be very useful in traditional ways because they are usable for every audience. For example, if you posted a link in the form of "You can see the author's point here", people before the digital age would be more inclined to use the link. A more creative way of using links is including it in an Instagram bio. This way you can share pages easily and attract audiences that are already interested in what you are posting. You can also utilize Instagram links by including them in stories. It's easy to see who is using your link by making your Instagram a business account.

Student

Today, the internet landscape is complex. It is important for marketers to keep up with new channels, devices, and trends. Links can be used in building a cross-channel marketing strategy. There many ways that marketers can use links to boost their marketing efforts. For example, Bitly is a URL shortening service and a link management platform. It is important for Twitter marketing because it is the default URL shortening service since 2009. It allows you to see what links get the most clicks.

Student

Links provide search engines with a way to find your site. If you don't have a link, you want a search engine to include you. There is almost no chance. The best way to get search engines is through links. And Link building can often involve outreach to other relevant websites and blogs in your industry. When you're outreaching and trying to get a content link, you're showing your expertise and asking others in your industry to help promote and show the same content to others.

Student

Links can used in so many new ways in todays society. It's crazy to me how we don't even notice the impact that they have on us and how much easier they make our lives. Just like what was said above, "Most days I don't even acknowledge it's existence as I drive from my home to the office. When I stop to think about it, I'm reminded of just how incredible it is." Here, reffering to the modern combustion engine in cars, is exactly how I feel about links. You don't really notice how helpful they are until you stop and think about it. Another way links can be used for marketing is when they are used on social media sites like Instagram and Snapchat. Influencers are a huge part of how we market items to consumers these days. People see products being used by these young attractive "stars" and feel that they have to have the products they are using. These influencers then post direct links to their stories or posts where consumers can click on them and it takes them directly to the website where they got the products. Here is a great example of how links are used for marketing on Instagram:

As we can see "ish" and "fabfitfun" are actual websites, but they rename them to be user friendly. Instagram and other social media sites are a great way to market to consumers using links.

Student

It is so true that links are not something that many people really think about as well as its importance on the web. Links are convenient for users on sites to get to another page if they need to. I often look for links to a different page when I need them. Inserting links on a page that helps users navigate a page or the website makes the site much more usable and easier to navigate.

links are the basement of our Internet and connect it into a web. They also make online advertising come ture and play an important role in marketing. In my opinion, the external keywords links can be used in marketing and advertising. In other words, it can be a good way to increase audiences and promote sales. Nowadays, people can learn things that has no relation with their life from Internet. And they desire to know things they have never heard. Thus, their curiosity can be a huge opportunity for brands. They can write interesting articles about fields that related to their brands, mention their brands and keywords abour brands in them, and use the keyword links to connect articles with their official websites. In this way, the articles can be spread wider than normal advertisement by the active tweets and shares of readers because of their attractive contents. Moreover, this kind of links saves audiences' time to search the content they don't understand or interest in, make it more possible to promote clicks and conversions of sales.

Links have many uses, in the marketing world. From uses in blog posts, click through advertisements, digital books, and recommendations from social media influencers. All of these ways can be efficient and effective ways for brand and product promotion. Links can also be a great way to create a spider-web of information for consumers.

Student
Link plays a really important role in Internet and it forms our basic website to a web. In my opinion, links connect our virtual world together and allow us to reach everywhere we want to. Thus, except simply search by Google to get the right links we find, there must be another way to use links for marketing. On my viewpoint, hyperlink can be very necessary in the field as well. It can hide links in an attractive picture, an interesting video and even a unfamiliar keywords. It has much more various way to put the link on the right place than just post a website link there. And people who click this link will think that they click it actively but not forced. Then they will more possibly accept the content of that link. Moreover, this form will highly improve the appearance of the website we choose to post links on, which can be regarded as win-win corporation. And audiences will fell more satisfied as well.

The Internet is based on links. The Internet is based on links. If there weren't links, the Internet wouldn't exist. For this reason, if you find a good web site with good content you should link to that site.Don't care about the search engine ranking or the PageRank of the site you're linking to. If you find a web site that you or your visitors find valuable, then link to it and ask for a reciprocal link to your site. Search engines just try to organize the Internet. Links build it. If we participate in building the Internet with good links, our web site is in a good position.

Student

From my point of view, links are one of the most fundamental and most effective tools to promote brands in digital advertising. The more targeted and relevant link is the more brand recognition for a site. More importantly, links can be used in various ways in online marketing. Links is a good way to gain customer convenience, a good website must have different types of links including merchandise links and referral links. For instance, a good referral link can help customers acknowledge the pros and cons.

Student

Links are an efficient way to share different websites and social networks. Without links, we would not be able to utilize our search engines. Hyper links are useful in content marketing. They create credibility for users as well as assurance they will be guided to the correct page. Links also can increase page views and improve search engine optimization. Including links in blogs can increase page views by properly directing users to the selected site. Links are useful for many reasons and should be utilized more often because they properly link users to sites. Finding niche bloggers is a great way to build links.

Student

We live in a digital era where we expect to arrive to whatever destination we click on. I feel like we often forget that links take us to the place that the creator wants us to go. For example, links can be used maliciously as well to try and prompt the user to allow viruses and malware onto their computer. Companies should keep in mind that people might be wary of clicking links and design them to look safe.

We tend to associate links to words and letters. I think we can move towards associating links to objects or pictures. For example, we can click whatever image/product we like in an advertisement to get more information about it or expect to be taken somewhere associated to it.

Student

Now that i've thought about it, I didn't even realize how helpful links can be when it comes to marketing, especially relating it to SEO. I think another way links can be used to grow marketing aspects is by interacting with other pages or brands by linking or sourcing them as well. This gives a chance to add more solid content to your own website, giving recognition to another, which will hopefully in exchange do the same for you as well. Even if your competitors it's still a win-win situation.

Student

Links have a variety of uses in the digital marketing world. Another way that links can be incorporated into a marketing campaign is by connecting different platforms to one overarching idea or company. For example, if a brand runs an ad on different social media pages but also ran something with similar content on their webpage, the social media posts could involve links that would take the consumer back to the main company website. Links are used as a direct transition from one platform to the other and can give consumers a way to find more information on certain campaigns or subject matters.

Student

Links are extremely convenient for people who don't want to put much effort into searching for things. Links can be used to take potential customers directly where you want them to go on your website. Why wouldn't companies utilize this tool? Links could further be used in marketing to take people to different places on a companies website quicker. For example, if a company has a home page listing the different places on their website that users can visit, then users can more quickly navigate to where they want to go on that website. This creates an even more convenience for consumers, which is such an essential thing that we look for these days.

Links can also feel interactive to consumers, since they are able to decide whether they want to click on them or not. Links could be made more interactive and fun for consumers by creating a quiz for consumers to interact with. For example, a company could promote a new product they are selling by placing a hierarchy of links on social media. Let's say this is a shoe company. The company could post four links on their social media, and each could say a different new shoe name. The company could tell consumers to choose one of the four links, and only one leads to a new page showing the new shoe. The other three links lead to pages with either ugly shoes or funny gifs on them saying the user chose wrong.

This is just one way to incorporate links on social media that are more interactive and fun for consumers than just being directed to a regular website. A post like this might get consumers more excited about a product.

Student

Links can be used to sell almost anything there is from houses to  football tickets to cars. I think the most important thing when to intrigue someone to click on a link, it should be interesting and lit up. No one is going to click on a link if it sounds boring.

Student

At my internship this past summer, the first project every intern learned was called a "Link Out." These online articles were used to link to a recipe or craft project on a blogger's website, so that our brand could host a database for a variety of projects and could send traffic to blogger's sites (for which they paid us). Our sites used the links to build monetization from ads and bloggers.

Student

Links have broad uses. For entrepreneurs, they create their own business website and set their unique links. This link is used for distinguishing companies with others. In our daily life, students need to use links to navigate their project, links will help peers and other scholars easy access the literature and ideas they want to exchange. In the advertisement marketing, the link is an essential part for advertisers to prompt their target brand.

Student

Some links that bring you to company' websites are a way for a brand to gain attention and build their image and for consumers to find products and services that they might need through the web. Links are extremely useful and important in this day in age because it helps things move a lot faster than they would without them. Today, especially within our generation, people want information fast and right in front of our eyes immediately when we want and need it. Links help us get straight to where we need to go on the Internet and find what we need to find. They also benefit bloggers, YouTubers, companies and brands market their products and content which can be mass shared to multiple viewers at once through a link in an email newsletter. Links are also used to market products, content in blog posts and news articles when you can copy and paste a link and send it around to multiple people at once. I think it's really cool that we can copy and paste a link from the Internet and send it to our friends via email, text message, Instagram DM, Twitter, etc... and share it through any social media platform with just one click of a button.

Student

It is very interesting that we live in a world where we expect links, and are displeased when they are not where we want them to be. There are tons of possibilities with links and online marketing. For example, on Instagram, you can now tag merchandise like clothing in promoted posts, allowing users to click and follow a link to the item on the online store. I believed enhanced links like this could play a huge part of the future of advertising.

Student

Links literally are everywhere... You see them all over web and social media as well as on print such as flyers and magazines as well.  The internet has become a huge part of the normal person's every day life. I like how you mentioned never using a raw link as a hyperlink, it makes it easier for the user to know ecactly where they are being directed to. I thinks links can be used sucessfully on social media where you can post links to atricles and pages to promote your brand.

Student

Links are everywhere, we need to get an answer in our life, we can use Google to bring us the answer to find something. It is hard to imagine that if there is no search engine in the world, there is no link, take us from one page to another. What is an interface like?

Student

Links can be used for marketing to increase revenue. If people are more likely to get where they want to go without having to click around or search they may be more likely to purchase the things they want. Links can be used creatively in this way but also effectively. Imagine how much easieer life would be if you were taken instantly to what you searched for.

Student

When really thinking about how the internet and links are made up is very mind boggling. I agree that links across the web should be treated with respect. Without them there would be a more difficult time with the web. No one ever wants to type out a full address or even the raw work that goes behind a link. The fact that we are able to imbed them into describing words is something that is very much underappreciated. Imbedding them (hyperlinks) can lead and reach more people when marketing.

Student

Links are completley often forgotten about, as they are so common amongst articles, websites, and even social media. One of the most creative marketing tactics I have seen represented through links is on social media, specifically Instagram. Some companies use the hashtag to promote their products. For example, they will advertise by encouraging users to post photos including their special hashtag. Users are then able to click on the link and see all other posts with the same hashtag. Iften times, by using this hashtag, the company gives away products to the user with the mosy creativity/best hashtag use. This allows the product to be advertised by consumers themselves, while also offering products for free.
