We've completed the first class and covered a wide range of potential new topics. Inbound marketing, social, search, content marketing, etc... We'll be taking a deeper dive into each of these digital marketing segments over the semester but we're curious what was the most interesting thing you learned on day one? Why did you find this interesting or relevant?

What I found was most interesting was the fact that though social media now all mostly offers the same services and features, each social media medium can be useful in reaching consumers.

I found this interesting because one would assume that you would only need to post a promotional photo with a catchy caption on  so many sites before you know if it's effective or not. However this is a huge misconception in social media. There are multiple ways to be creative on social media. In addition to that, multiple social media sites can be useful to a company because each avenue specializes in reaching certain types of audiences.

Student

I found it very interesting just how much social media can impact a company, in a negative or positive way. A company’s online presence means a lot more than the average person might think. I also learned a lot more of the background of social media and online presence- how there is marketing and analytics involved. Although many brands make their posts seem more candid there is A LOT more background that goes into each post.

Student

The most interesting thing I learned on day 1 would have to be the content marketing. Learning how to create valuable an consistent content  is something that I think is very useful. Instead of just trying to get people to interact with your ad/brand, giving them good content to start off is something beneficial to the audience and could help you retain them! In addition to retaining them, it could influence them to make purchases on what you might be trying to sell as well as gaining their loyalty! When they become loyal to you, they could also recommend you to their friends and family who might be interested in the content you are putting out and it'll generate you even more traffic passively.

One of the topics that we discussed in our in-person class was the Four Rules of Social Media Marketing. Providing value to make you stand out to your target audience by creating content that people enjoy seeing and want to share with their friends and family. THis will get the company's name out there and leave a lasting impression in the minds of consumers. Also being native, this means that you need ot stay true to the brand image you are trying to portray and that your consumers can know what to expect when looking for an advertisment on your social media platform. Another one we talked about was giving back to the consumers, 19 out of every 20 posts should be giving something of value to your customer and only on the 20th post should you ask for something in return. This makes the customers feel like you are adding value to their lives instead of taking away value, causing them to have a more positive outlook on your brand. Lastly was the listen and reposnd rule. There is nothing wrong with responding to customers and making them feel like they are having a personable experience with your company and they will be more likely to stay loyal if they feel like they are being "heard." I thought that this section of our class was extrememly relevant in today's society because social media is such a huge influencer on the consumers and obtaining a successful social media presence can really make a company stand out.

I learned an immense amount during the first session. I am extremely excited to learn about all of the subjects that were introduced. One of the things that I most desire to know about is SEO and analytics. This is becoming increasingly important in the advertising and marketing fields. I want to be able to understand how this works so that I can more accurately target my audience. Another thing that will help me in the future is more knowledge about advertising through social media. I currently control a brand's social media accounts for my internship, and having additional knowledge in this area would benefit me immensely. One interesting thing that I learned during the first session was that search marketing is often based off of an auction system. The higher bids win the higher positions on the page. I really had no idea that this is how it works, so I found it surprising. I find it interesting that companies are so willing to put in so much money to outbid each other for these valuable spots. However, it clearly pays off and is worth it for the companies in the long run. I am excited to learn more things like this that can help me with my future career.

I found it most interesting on how social media truly impacts a company. Looking deeper into each company, it was clear that great social media leads to better company production. With such a wide range of different people using social media for many things, companies seem to find a great way to connect with the audience and attract new customers. This was very cool to see the diverse ways advertising on social media has changed. I am very excited to dig deeper into this subject.

I am a junior majoring in Advertising Management. On the first day of class I found the topic of social media very interesting simply because social media is changing and shaping the way and forms we are able to advertise and reach a wider range of audience. Learning how to effectively use social medias to reach your desired audience and gain the most engagment is something I hope to learn within this course. Each and every day social media and technology is growing leading our ways of marketing and advertising to change and evolve with them. We see new ways and ideas that consumers are attracted to and this is something that is very interesting to me. Social media plays a big role in today's world and that is why it is so relevant to this field.

The most interesting thing I learned on Saturday was the lecture about content marketing. Content marketing can be vital to a business’ success and ultimately increase sales, cost savings, and increase customer loyalty. Content marketing proves that marketing is impossible without good content and every company should incorporate it in their marketing tactics.

In addition, I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know both the instructors in the brief time we all had together. I’m always intrigued when I am listening to successful advertisers and what steps they took to get to the spot they’re in today. Derek put into good perspective that we should all own our own business one day because it’s good to learn the ropes and it will eventually pay off in the long run.

One of the most interesting things I learned was the four rules of social media marketing. In my internship over the summer, I helped out a company with one of their Twitter pages. Unfortunately, we did not follow all four rules.. Learning about the best practices of social media will allow me to create more engaging content for future companies to better reach online audiences. In addition, the rules helped me look back on my content and see what exactly I can do to improve my posts.

Hearing the stories of both instuctors was also interesting to me. Learning about the paths all my instructors have taken throughout my years at MSU provided me with a better perspective on the many different paths available to me after graduation. The journey is different for everyone and you have to find what you are happiest doing and what works best for you. Their insights on what employers are looking for and things they learned about the advertising insdustry was something I enjoyed hearing throughout the first day.

I'll admit that I was initially unsure of what to expect from the first day of the class with it being my first "hybrid" class during my time at MSU, but I got a lot more out of it than I planned. It could've easily covered a few weeks of a standard M/W 10:20 lecture, but with so much content crammed in I learned a lot. The most interesting thing I learned was regarding the difference between paid promotion in search engines and free SEO tinkering through the use of keywords and the like. I had some familiarity with it before but this provided much more in-depth clarity.

Student

The first day class really impressed me, I am really interested in the social media marketing, social media is a huge network these days spread all over the world, a company could use social media to build their image and give people the their first impression, in some ways, social media marketing is a really powerful way to introduce our brand and your company, a good social media marketing can give you a huge advantage and give you a better result than the same quality project without using social media marketing, social opinion is effect buy the media reaport and social media marketing, the power of the social opinion is enormous, so a proper social media marketing is really important for a brand and a company.

Student

The most interesting that I was intereseted from the first class was about social marketing. As the times evolve, social media is becoming more and more powerful. The social media that are becoming popular in different ages and those who deal with advertising and marketing should be sensitive to these issues. It was interesting to talk about how it has been influenced by social media and how it has changed. In the future, I was wondering what would become more popular and influential in some areas. I thought that if I worked in the advertising industry, I would be more sensitive to this area.

Student

The most interesting thing to me is the “give, then ask” aspect of social media marketing approach, that 19 out of 20 posts should be giving value to your audience and the 20th post can be asking them to do something. That ratio is actually much higher than I would have thought. As someone who is already working in this area and using social media marketing, keeping this rule in mind will help me refine the strategies I use at my job.

Student

I found the topic about what content marketing do to customers really interesting since content marketing focuses on building and maintaining a long-term relationship with the customers instead of seeking for a short-term reward from consumers. What content marketing do, I would say, should be the vital process that every company would go through to keep themselves on the right track. By using content marketing, we target our consumer group more specifically and more effectively, and we design advertisements about more things that would attract our target group. And to target and attack, is the most important goal for content marketing.

Student

The most interesting thing that we discussed in class is how vital social media is in marketing for businesses now. Social media continues to become more prevalent in our everyday lives, and this will only continue over tie. I thought it was interesting how many ways you can track your business’ social media usage and how many tools there are out there that can measure your company’s success.

Student

The most interesting thing that I learned on day one was how important social media is in advertising and promoting for businesses and events. In the past few years especially, social media has progressed so much and impacts every day life much more than it used to. I think that knowing how to efficiently and effectively advertise through social media is going to be integral in my future career field of public relations, so this was very helpful to learn about. Social media is extremely relevant in all of our lives so knowing how to apply and decipher different strategies of marketing and advertising is very important.

Student

The most interesting topic that we discussed in class was the idea of how important and relevant social media marketing has become over the last decade. I like that fact that this class will help me connect more with people and resouces through social media for my major. This is so important to me because of how much I use social media and the fact that I grew up with it in my everyday life. The one social media that I am not as farmiliar with is LinkedIn, so I am happy that we are going to be using and working with that a lot throughout the semester. I want to be able to market and make connections with the business world which I hope will help me by making a profile. I also enjoyed learning about Digital Marketing since it is one of the aspects of my major I am interested in going into for a career. I am excited to learn even more about what it has to offer and work with the specific programs mentioned in the first day of class.

Student

As an advertising major, I found the topic of social media to be very interesting. Technology continues to grow exponentially and social media has taken off within the past decade. It is important to know how to properly utilize social media in terms of advertising because it offers yet another wide range of target audiences to be reached. It is extremely relevant in our society today. Speaking for myself, I don't go over a day without checking each profile I have, and I am sure that is how most people are today too.

Student

After the first day of class, I was happy to learn more about social media. I have a love/hate relationship with social media as I am sure a lot of others do as well but without a doubt it is the way of the future. Over 20 years ago people would've never thought social media would influence lives as much as it does today. I found this topic very relevant because there are a lot of great marketing techniques that go through different social media platforms, therefore, it is important for our generation to learn more about these strategies. People spend a lot of time scrolling through Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, ect. which means advertisements on these sites are important to reach target audiences. I am really excited that this class covers all different aspects of digital advertising and I'm very eager to learn more about this topic.

Student

As an advertising management major, the web and web analytics has dramatically changed within the last five to ten even fifteen years. Along with that, technology has evolved, computers have improved, smart phones have emerged exceedingly. I decided to take this class because I wanted to learn more about the contrasting means to measure efficiency of campaigns.

I enjoyed learning all about the pay per click system specifically the auction system that Google and other search engines have. Us humans we use these sites all the time, and it is critical from a company’s perspective to understand how a thing like this works. It is intriguing to hear how advanced things can get, such as; keywords, geographic regions, time, device, age, audience, etc.

Student

The most interesting thing that I learned on day one of this class would have to be all of the different tools that we need to measure the effectivess of a campaign. We went over websites like Google Analytics, HotJar and UserStory. Then we went over Inbound tools like Hubspot, Marketo, Sharpspring and MailChimp. Lastly, we talked about social tools including Radian6 and Sprout Social. The interesting thing for me here is that I have only heard of one of these tools in my advertising career, and that would be Google Analytics. This suprises me a lot because I have majored in this for 4 years and am minoring in Digital Analytics, but yet not one of my classes has brought up any of these sites (besides Google Analytics).

I'm really excited this class has already talked about these tools on the first day becuase I feel like they are very important to know when deciding if your campaing is working or not. I think the one tool I would like to become more familiar with and acutally use would be HubSpot. I've been watching videos of how it works and it's genius to put all of your marketing in one spot. They took every part of the best inbound marketing methods and consolidated them into one spot. I feel like being taught this in one of my previous classes would benefit my advertsing career, but I'm really happy that this class gives me the opportunity to do so.

Student

My biggest take away from the first day of class was learning about the key objectives of digital strategy. This includes defining the objective and making sure the objectives are fundamental to the business and time specific. Also, before this class I had never heard of key performance indicator qualities which would be relevant and important to know for any digital marketing positions to increase online sales and reduce negative social brand mentions.

Student

The first day of the class was very impressive. The topic of social media marketing was very interesting to me. With the development of technology, social media have been developing for a long time. Not only brand but also individual begin to use social media as an effective marketing method. Almost everyone has a social media platform to “market” himself or herself. Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and many other social media platforms are becoming more and more common in people’s life. Thanks to these social media platforms that we can get product information as soon as possible. It is very worth to learn this topic in depth. There is no doubt that social media marketing is becoming a new trend in marketing industry. I am very happy that I selected this course and have the opportunity to learn social media marketing in detail.

Student

On the first day of class, I enjoyed learning about ways to stand out on social platforms. The video where Chevy turned an embarrassing moment from one of their T.V. interviews into a viral joke was intriguing to me. It amazed me how Chevy's marketing team chose to embrace the nervousness of one of their spokespeople and market their product by turning an awkward interview into a funny situation. It takes a great amount of cleverness to be able to think on your feet when something goes wrong.

Furthermore, I was also interested in learning more creative ways to advertise on social media. Throughout the semester, I hope to learn about creative stances to take on social media posts. Sometimes, it is easy to get stuck doing the same marketing tactics over social media, and I want to figure out how to get past that and create unique content that captures the attention of potential and current customers.

I am a communications major, although I still do not know exactly what kind of job I want to persue after graduation. I chose to take this class to get a taste of advertising and see if it interests me.

My biggest take away from the first class was how vital social media is for adveritisng. It is no longer a pass time but instead a platform to promote all types of businesses. I forgot how many ads I come across on a daily.

Student

On the first day of the class I felt like I learned what real goes down in the marketing business. As an advertising management major with a minor in entrepreneurial studies, the concept of social media marketing really interests me. I learned how important it is for a company to have a track on all of their social media tabs. But the thing that interested me the most was how if a company somehow messes up it is important to not ignore it and to maybe put a clever spin on the mistake. The chevy commercial with "technology and stuff" is an example of this. Marketing is thinking out of the box for me.

I am a Media and Information major, with a specialization in Film and Television Production. I didn't know a lot about digital marketing. So that's what I am eager to learn in this class. However, in some of my MI classes, I learned something about different social media platforms, how to use them effectively, and different social media measurement tools. I find the most interesting thing for me in the lecture on day one is search marketing. I would like to learn more about search engine optimization and pay per click and how to make full use of them in digital marketing. I also find that refinement of a media marketing strategy is very important and it is something that I want to learn more about. I chose this class because my friends said they learned something very useful in this class and recommanded me to take it!

The topic I noticed the most during our first class was SEO. I'm a Professional Writing major and I'm currently applying for jobs in the editing and publishing field. I could narrow my job search to just "proofreader", "copy editor", or "assistant editor". But, class topics like SEO and social media management can make me stand out more as a jack of all trades type of employee. I've noticed SEO on a lot of my job applications, both for small businesses and large corporations.

As an advertising management student, this course is very interesting for me. In the first class, I learned a lot of new terms, such as inbund marketing, search, and content marketing. But the most interesting part of first class is about social media. Most of us use social media and even use multiple social media platforms. There are various marketing methods in the market today, and the impact of social media is enormous. From the perspective of me as a consumer, I am also a person influenced by social media. If I see posts or photos posted by certain brands on instagram or Twitter, I would most likely want to buy them. Different platforms have different marketing strategies, which also makes me think about how to use social media to target specific consumer groups and how to develop marketing strategies. The first class has inspired my thoughts on my future career, changed my previous views on marketing, and saw the potential future of marketing, hoping to clarify the future direction of employment in this semester.

Student

For advertising major, it is very important to use the social media. Social network advertising is also social media positioning, a set of terms used to describe online advertising forms that focus on social network services. One of the main benefits of this type of advertising is that advertisers can use the demographic information of their users and properly locate their ads. Social media positioning combines the current positioning options, and can identify target groups in detail. Through social media positioning, advertisements will be distributed to users according to the information gathered from the target group configuration files.

Student

I enjoyed learning about content marketing and creating relevant content for consumers and your brand. I liked hearing about all forms of new media marketing and digital marketing strategy. I learned that "content marketing is long term strategy, based on building a strong relationship with your customers by giving them valuable content that is highly relevant to them on a consistent basis." This is especially relevant to me because I currently practice content marketing and digital strategy on social media for my job. It was also interesting that content marketing leaders experience 7.8 times more site traffic than non-leaders, which shows how important it is. The class made me want to get my Hubspot inbound marketing certification, which I didn't know existed before.

Student

On day one I learned first, what the class will be focusing on. I was introduced to several new terms (inbund marketing, etc). One specific thing I learned that I still have been thinking about were the different google certifications you can get to be more qualified in the social media platform area. These are relevant because as you said in class, this can be something an employer looks for through linkedin, and can eliminate one from opporunties simply because you dont have them. I am definitely interested in learning more/completing these certifications during this year while taking the course. I didn't know this could help lead to a social media manager kind of postion.

Student

I found the first class to be very interesting - mostly because from the very beginning I could see myself using the new topics in my professional career post graduation. That is not always the case in some courses so it's refreshing to feel that way. What interests me most is the content marketing and the brand strategies. I am excited to become more familar with all aspects but these two I feel intruiged by as a communication major and sales minor. I think it will assist me in having an edge when it comes to a future career as communicating the purpose and goals of a brand through the content they're putting out is crucial to the product/service being sold and to a company's success.

Student

For me, the most interesting thing is how big the social media influence is. I know that how the social media infleucne on me. But I didn't realize that there also a huge influence on processing a brand. Ater the class, When I check my instagram, I also followed a lot of brands. I realize that every times, they post the new release online, I'd like to check it on instagram instead of checking on their website. Many times, those beautiful pictures would attract my buy their new products. On the other hand, I also talk about that the pictures that they post always have a model, give give give then get. I check it later. I think that most of brand's social media follow this regular. I have neve notice this before.

I think the reason I found this intereting is I like to use instagram, look over the pictures. I also like online shopping. And the good pictures on instagram always let me want to buy. I will think that if I have this stuff, I will also look good as model like. If a brand can make guest feel this, I consider that they are very successful. They make the social media creates more guest in easy way.

Student

I am looking forward to learning about the different social media platforms and which ones will be most effective to which audience.  Each site attracts different types of users and trying to be innovative in strageties to reach the desired target market really intrigues me.  Ads are already invading social media and it can be tough to gauge the audience in a way that makes your business stand out.  Finding ways to humanize your brand, create a space where customers want to participate in responde and share your brand, sounds exciting to me.

Student

I decided to take this class because my advisor suggested I take it (I'm a Professional Writing major) and I thought it would better my social media skills so I can one day become a Social Media Manager. I also enjoyed learning about SEO because my mom works a lot with SEO and I wanted to learn more about what she does. I had heard terms like PPC and keywords but I couldn't 100% define them or fully understand why they are important to SEO.

I am also one of the Digital Media Interns for WRAC (Writing, Rhetoric & American Cultures) here at MSU and I feel like a lot of these topics will help me with my work and focus the WRAC brand. Now knowing more about what SEO means and how that can affect audience and brand, I hope to use what I learn from this class to better my work and skills and to contribute to better traffic to the WRAC website and social media platforms.

Student

Even though I am a Communications major, I was still able to apply the content that we have learned so far with my internship that I have had over the past two summers. I work with a company that puts on music festivals and uses social media for most of it’s promotion. We are able to reach out to college students to help spread the word. These students will put up screenshots or videos up on their Instagram stories and Facebook to let more people know about the festivals that are in town. An example of a post could have been, "Last chance to buy tickets before prices go up", or "Two-Days until Festival begins!". Posts like these, are able to reach out to some many people.

One of the main takeaways that I learned from class, were the main strategies for Content Marketing. It is so important to know who your audience is, what information you are putting out online, and why the information that you are providing is important.

I am excited to learn more about Strategic marketing approaches!

Student

In my internship this past summer, I learned a lot about SEO strategy and PPC advertising. My biggest take away from the first session was the importance of Inbound Marketing. Since I'm not an advertising or marketing major, I was unaware of the inbound process. I was familiar with the strategy of attracting a broader range of customers, but unaware of the social media side to converting strangers into brand ambassadors. Obviously this type of marketing is common in traditional sales, but I never thought about it in terms of technology and social media. I am interested to learn more about inbound marketing and complete the certification on HubSpot.

Student

I currently work at the State News as an Account Executive and I work almost every day with our social media sponsored posts. I found it very interesting to learn more about what goes into the strategy behind when and what to post, and how to see what resonates with a specific audience. I found it extremely relevant to what I do at work every day, and I will use this information to help my clients take advantage of our social media platforms in a strategic and effective way.

I also found it interesting to learn more about paid advertising on Google. This made my prospecting for new clients a little different, because I could be aware of which companies were spending money to appear "higher up" on search engines. For example, if an insurance agent is willing to spend money to move higher on Google, then maybe he would be willing to spend money to appear on our website as well.

Overall, I learned a lot in just one day of class and I was very excited to bring this knowledge back to work!

Student

As a student with the major of Advertising Management and Media, the most interesting thing is social media. This is a very common and big idea or part in both advertising and media domain. Everyone is getting involved in social media, so it's relevant for advertisers to consider and create advertisements that include social media platform. A good social media organization can let people be curious with you. So it's absolutely interesting to learn and understand it.

Student

This is my first semester to take my major’s core class. And I get lots of proper nouns from these classes. After I took the first class for ADV 420, one word left the deep impression in my mind-inbound marketing. Honestly, I have no idea about what is inbound marketing and even I didn’t hear that before. I got some information about this and I search another information online. Inbound is a method of attracting, engaging, and delighting people to grow a business that provides value and builds trust. Inbound is a better way to market, a better way to sell, and a better way to serve your customers. Attract, delight and engage become three parts of inbound marketing. Inbound businesses use the mythology to build trust, credibility and momentum.

Inbound marketing help us to attract potential customers to your brand or company. And it can help a brand to grow up fast. In the meantime, inbound marketing involves many aspects like business, sales and services. And I got one sentence to summarize inbound marketing is inbound marketing works by earning someone’s attention, rather than buying it.

I admit I learned lots of new things. Although I can’t totally understand what it exactly is, but I will learn it deeper and deeper in the future.

Student

Naturally, being an Advertising Management major with a minor in Advertising Analytics, I am drawn to learning more about strategy and how to understand the effectiveness of different advertising approaches. I think that digital media is very influential and can reach a very large target audience. I am very intrigued to see how the involvement of social media will affect large corporations and smaller brands in the future. Discussing this topic in class made me realize how important it is for companies to delegate their resources accordingly in order to effectively target the right consumers.

For me, the most interesting topic that we covered on day one would have to be search engine optimization. I had heard this term many times in the past while at internships and in class, but the way it was explained in class gave me a much better understand of the overall concept. I am looking forward to working with HubSpot and becoming Hubspot certified as well.

Student

As an Advertising Management major looking to add a minor in Advertising Analytics, it is important to learn about digital starategy. This was my motivation to take this class on New Media. During the first class we discussed a lot of ways to advertise online. I am familiar with Google's Online Advertising Academy platforms such as AdWords and Analytics, but I am not very familiar with inbound marketing. I enjoyed this segment learning of the first class because that is when I learned something completely brand new. Additionally, I learned more about search engine optimization and content marketing and the importance of keywords.

The part I appreciated the most was about HubSpot's inbound marketing platform and how becoming HubSpot certified is an easy way to get ahead when applying for jobs. My question is are there any other free certifications in online advertising? I would like to know what else my classmates and I can do to get ahead when applying for internships and full-time jobs.

Student

I took this class because I wanted to get a more in-depth look about the online marketing tactics large companies do to make them relevant and profitable. I knew of some of the tips and tricks that the first class showed because of my past jobs as a web designer, social media manager and marketing assistant.

The most interesting thing I learned about on day one would probably be inbound marketing because I didn't know much about it but I had an idea about what it was.  As a Media and Information major, I hear about all those kinds of things but we don't do much about applying the knowledge.

The search engine optimization part was also interesting because at my past job, I remember making a bunch of different landing pages to places all over the state. Back then, I understood that it would show up in the search bar if someone was trying to look up "Haslett House Siding Handymen" but I didn't understand why I needed to make so many for different areas of the state.

I know that I was able to create those individualized landing pages, but with the right bots, services and AIs, shouldn't websites be able to create those specialized specific location pages too?  The pay per click model was also intriguing, besides the large companies that do that kind of advertisitng, do you think that kind of model work on smaller localized companies trying to create a place for advertisments of local business?

Student

Being an Advertising Management major with a minor in both public relations and advertising analytics, I felt like I knew most things when it comes down to the specific stuff. My biggest takeaway from the lecture though was the rules of social media marketing. I understood that companies now use social media platforms to market products and services, but I did not know there was a science behind it. The four rules of social media marketing I learned are to provide value, to be native, to give, give, give then ask, and to listen and then respond.

To provide value is making your advertisement more interesting than the rest. There are so many advertisements on social media, you need to make yours stand out. To be native is to understand the platforms that you are using. If it is a platform where you write only a sentence or two, know not to write more than that. To give, give, give, then ask is the rule that you should post many posts that give value to your audience, and then you post another asking for something from your audience. The rule to listen and then respond is that you should learn from social media. Social media is a great platform to learn things on, and then once you understand it you can post a response to it.

I also found the search marketing characteristics to be interesting. I never looked into search marketing. The pay per click is new to me. Pay per click is an “auction system”, based on how much you spend. When you spend more, the higher you will rank, and so you pay for the traffic on these search engines.

Considering that I'm not and Advertising, Journalism or Communitication major, alot of the information presented in day 1 of the class I found to be interesting. The most interesting thing that I learned was not just picking and platform but also having a execution stratefy. I found this to be relevent considering that I recently picked up the Public Relations minor and I am taking a class on PR strategy along with this class. How do companies implement digital marketing in times of crisis but also how do they implement those same platforms to promote new products or services they are offering? The first day of class provided me with key takaways when approaching companies and media platforms:

  • provide value
  • Be native
  • Give more than you ask for
  • Listen before responding

Its important to realize the campanies role in the larger part of society. What is the company offering the consumer beside another product to spend money on? How do they enhance or add value to the lives of their customers? The first day of classes made me think about those questions and what suggested steps companies should take in the future in enhancing their brand.

To be honest, I am an international student from South Korea and lived half of my life in both Korea and in the United States. On day one, I learned about so many different kinds of marketing and was shocked by the numbers of marketing. I only knew about media marketing but never knew what was inbound marketing. My goal, after graduating in university, is working in the marketing and advertising field in any country that interests me and learned about how international marketing is different from one country. Also, the way of handling marketing in the United States and South Korea was a little different. It became very interesting of how I should learn and adapt to the new ways of marketing and how I could change with my way of knowing marketing as well.

In many different kinds of marketing, social, search, and content marketing interested me the most. As the society is moving fast globally. I think I need to know the current change and learning from this course. Almost everyone uses smart devices, such as smartphones, laptops, tablets and so much more. I believe content will be the most important source and factor in future advertising and also in marketing. This means that content is becoming more important and impactful to the marketing and advertising field as well. Each company has different styles and factors of advertising and marketing its own product to clients. By doing the first assignment, I really look forward to how my company correlates with the materials we covered in class.
