When I grow up...

What do you want to be when you grow up? When I was a student at MSU in the Advertising Department, I wanted to be a copywriter. I was sure of this fact. I studied all the greats like Leo Burnett and David Ogilvy and Neil French. I read the books. Worked on my portfolio for weeks and months. Had creative reviews with agency types and writers. I did the circuit.

MSU 2010 - It was a very good year

Michigan State University Spartans enjoyed a wonderful 2010. And not just the students lucky enough to have a New Media Drivers License. I'm talking about the entire Spartan Nation!

The 2010 MSU Presidential report from Lou Anna K. Simon, PhD is a breathtaking look back at this fabulous year. Kudos to the MSU marketing department and television production crew (including leadership from Heather Swain and Jim Peck) for putting this together!

Social Media ROI

Social Media ROI is important as you work on a social media plan. It's real easy to measure Google Ads and how much traffic they drive. But measuring social media is a bit more tricky. Sure you can measure Facebook likes, Twitter retweets, or comments on your blog. But what does it all really mean? I encourage you to attach a dollar value to your efforts, and justify your social media spend. Take a look at this excellent presentation as an example. Thoughts?

Japan to Libya

Class, I have to ask what is going on in the world. The US is getting involved in another war. Another major tsunami hits Japan. Charlie Sheen is taking his addiction on tour. And it feels sort of like the movie 2012. How does this feel as an MSU Student? And how does social media play into all this?

I assume many of you are getting your news via Twitter. What do you think about the state of our world? Share your thoughts in a comment.
