How can you make an impact?

Being a student is great. It's an important part of your life. And I have to ask, how are you making an impact now?

Sometimes students feel they have to wait till they graduate and become a professional to make an impact. But that's not true. Even as a student you can make this world a better place. It's part of your job.

So I challenge you. This week. Today. Now. Make a difference. Do something positive that helps others - not just you.

Getting into the Habit of Crafting Compelling Content

Blogs have been popular for over a decade now. While the traditional "blog" may have peaked around 2008 many companies use some form of blogging in their marketing efforts. They may call it something other than a blog-- articles, news, content marketing, etc... but it's still blogging.

Software like WordPress has made it easy to set up a blog. Simply install the software required to start blogging used to require an expert and maybe a couple hours of effort. Now, most website hosting companies offer one-click installs that take minutes at most.

The Importance of Website Links

Website links are so ubiquitous that it's easy to overlook their importance. Most websites have dozens if not hundreds of links -- sometimes within a single page.

Links are the primary method which we navigate the web. Even if you're performing a web search it's a link that you click on to visit a site and then a series of links as you explore the site.

Links are the reason the web exists in the first place. The founder of the web Sir Tim Berners-Lee wanted a method for sharing and interlinking research documents, so he invented HTML -- the code used to assemble web pages.

The Morality of Online Advertising

This week you're learning about online advertising. From an advertiser's perspective, digital platforms have numerous advantages over traditional media.

For one, you can hyper-target your audience. Rather than advertising to everyone who's watching a particular show at a particular time you can target people by age, gender, education, interest, products you've previously looked at and more.

Additionally, you can see exactly how effective your campaign is. How many people saw it? How many people click on it? How many people purchased afterward. It's extremely effective.

Summer Vacation

I see some of your are spending the summer in far away places like China. That is super cool. I've been spending my summer teaching and driving my girls to swim practice. We will head to Park City for a week so that should be a nice break.

Remember our agency tour is Tuesday, August 15 from 10 AM - 12 Noon at Doner in Southfield. Please be sure to email me and RSVP so I can give a full count to Doner.

So I have to ask - what's the coolest place you went this summer? Could be a concert, camping trip, or exotic vacation. Where'd you go? Peace out. Go Green.

Summer 2017

Dear class. I hope you're enjoying your summer thus far. You've all chosen your brands and you should be diving into the digital marketing analysis of your brands.

As you embark on this course, what are you most curious about in Digital Marketing? What are you hoping to learn? Share some insights as to what you're looking for and I'll see if we can give you some more instruction on those areas.

Happy Memorial Day Weekend!
