Sports App Research

Dear Class,

This week I need your honest opinion.  in full disclosure I'm launching a sports app called Fantelope. It's live in the app stores now but a new version is coming soon.

One of our audience personas is college students who are sports fans. But I have some questions to help us be more relevant to you. I'd appreciate your input.

1. Would you be interested in a sports only social network app as opposed to a broader social network like Facebook or Twitter? Why Or why not?

Pop Culture Roll Call

2017 is gonna be a great year. And IMHO a good year to have some distractions to avoid the news. What is a better distraction than Pop Culture entertainment for that?

So I ask you students, what pop culture do you follow? I'm very curious to hear your favorite band/musician, movie/movies, tv shows, hobbies, anything else?

Getting ready for the holiday season at

November has always been a crazy month in my professional life. For years, I worked on campaigns and in the political world, where obviously November election days were critical.

Now, I find myself equally busy in November – as the marketing director for, a custom photo gifts ecommerce company. We're coming up on our busiest time of the year: Black Friday and Cyber Week, and our team has been working for months on getting everything ready.

What goes into this from a digital marketing standpoint?

Facebook Live's exciting potential

Have you tried Facebook Live yet?

Chances are, you've watched a Facebook Live video or two. This technology is extremely exciting and holds the potential to reshape the media industry. How?

Fan Engagement Experiment

As you know in addition to teaching ADV 420 at Michigan State Unviversity, I run a Fan enagement startup called Fantelope. We don't have MSU signed up yet, but hope to for next year, so keep an eye out.

Yesterday we had an event at the University of Detroit Titans. It was a Metro Series pep rally, soccer game, and it finished with Hoop Night in the D. We had some cool Titans Pride t-shirts to giveaway and we put them on the Fantelope app for 50 points.

Lululemon's Innovative use of Online Advertising

Lululemon’s online advertising has been extremely successful and have used a lot of innovative online marketing methods to further their awareness and sales. Advertising campaigns now-a-days should be using all methods of online advertising in order to become more successful. At this point in today's world, online activity has only been increasing and all social media platforms should be used by a brand to target their audience. Because of this turn towards social media platforms, I would advise against spending too much money and effort into display advertising.

What's Your Favorite Social Network?

OK, quick survey. What's your favorite social network? How often do you use it? Why do you love it so much? Do you see good ways for brands to use your favorite network to market their products?

Election 2016 on social media

I'm sure you're aware, but: we're in the middle of a presidential election.

It's been fascinating to see the election play out on social media online. Last night, I especially loved seeing how the candidates were using social media to back up their points during the debate.

Both campaigns used Twitter to fact check their opponents, retweet supporters (or posts criticizing their opponents), and share important quotes from the debate.
