Stepping Stones for my Blog

I didn't realize how much work was actually in a blog until I sat down and started messing with mine the other day.  It probably doesn't help that I have a mild form of self-diagnosed OCD.  The amount of times I changed my header image and the background image is absurd.  I can't even begin to describe how long it took me to come up with a title for it as well.  Thankfully, Blogging Resource 2-33: Naming Your Blog (p. 70) helped me a lot.  In this article, Chris Garrett explains the importance of naming your blog when thinking of blog branding and success.  He gives several helpful hints for choosing a domain name that include: how original/unique is it, how descriptive is it, what image does it provide your reader, would you remember it after seeing it just once, and could you spell it after hearing it once.  These tips really got my brain rattling and I honestly pondered the name of my blog for at least an hour.  I changed it several times over the next few hours, in between organizing my blog.  I finally settled on "Sailing Wanderer."  I felt that this was the best fit for the topic of my blog as well as an overall image of myself.  Hopefully this one sticks because I think it has a nice ring to it.

The next problem I had with my blog was actually starting to write content.  I found the section Blogging Resource 2-35: The 7 Deadly Sins of Blogging (p. 71) to be constructive in my efforts to write my first post.  It taught me to not try and sell my topic to anyone, but rather write it for myself and people who are attracted to it will come.
