Comments & Feedback
I am grateful to have been enrolled in this class. I have learned so much from this program and I know I will be able to take what I have learned and use it in the real world. I already have been appyling my knowledge to certain things. Thank you for bringing this course to MSU. I have already strongly recommended it to many friends.
I’ve learned so much this semester, it is crazy how fast it has gone. I was a little worried about it being majority online seeing as this would be my first online class but I actually really liked how the class is self driven and take learning into my own hands. I have learned so much from learning how to use both LinkedIn and Pinterest to creating an entire digital campaign myself. I feel that the skills I have developed in this class will truly help me excel in the future.
This class has taught me some important things to keep me sharpen in the industry. I've learned skills to enhance online and mobile advertising. I feel I have developed a good sense of how online marketing should look like. I also understand the importance of staying up to date with trends in the industry. This is important becasue you have to be able to move fluently with industry change. Given the latest trends of moving from traditional to online and mobile advertising, this adaptability is important for me as I grow in the business.
Now we're almost at the end of this semster and already this class has given me many new skills that I know will help me later on in my career. I feel I am a more well-rounded individual in terms of my ability to contribute to the advertising industry. This class has helped me gain knowledge about digital marketing campaigns that, nowadays, are incredibly important. I had heard this class was well worth it before I signed up and now I can say that I agree with that. It seems to me this class should be a requirement. Going in to the industry with little to no knowledge of how to fully analyze and critique digital campaigns is dangerous. I feel much more prepared to move forward into my career than I did before taking this class.
I have friends who took this class and they say it is very helpful. For those who already graduated they say they apply what they studied in this course in their daily activities at work. I believe I am going to gain much as well, especially that I have very supportive professors
I have heard so many great things about this course and I am super excited for the semester. My question is when there is an umbrella company that has many different brands within there, what is the most effective way to tackle their social media? By differentiating each of the brands or trying make sure that people know they are all a part of one giant company?
First week of this class was good! Still working to figure out how everything works on this website but you hae been very helpful and I am very appreciative for that! Can't wait for a good semester!
I'm looking forward to taking this class because I really want to go into the public relations field in my career. I'm excited to see what differernt and helpful things we'll learn in this class to help me towards my future. After completeting this class, I'm sure that that the things I take from it will be beneficial and help me out in the long run. I think that the assignments will be fun and helpful! Looking forward to a fun 4.0!
What are the pros and cons of using apps mainly meant for short pictures, such as Snapchat or Instagram, for lengthier advertisement videos?
Hi! I am very enthusiastic to get started in this course. I believe that the resources and tools that this class has to offer are benficial in almost all fields in this modern technological world. At the very least I am excited to get to know my brand's (Allstate's) current online marketing strategy in and out. That is fascinating to me, since it is easy to take for granted the advertisements of a company as big as Allstate. I expect to gain valuable experience from this course, and apply it to wherever I end up in my career.
What is the best solution to keeping up with a world like social media that is constantly changing?
How do you separate your personal social media accounts and your business related accounts? without completely neglecting your personal account? I'm over an organization's social media account, and I'm having trouble dividing the two equally.
I think this class is interesting and useful, i really want to expand my knowledge about digital marketing, marketing and advertising is important for a business, according to the first assignment i know more about some famous brand, behind these brand, there are must be some unique selling proposition to make their brand famous, what is the most important thing for brand management?
I am looking forward to what is to come in this course. This is a class that I would not have expected to be offered, and I am looking to get a lot out of it. Especially, becuase of my strong interest in social media. I enjoyed the first assignment and looking into a brand that is so prevelant and in an industry that I have interests in. I was also intersted because I've noticed things about the brand prior to doing this assigment. I've never been so excited to learn, and I know that I will be able to apply a lot principles outside of this course.
I am really excited about taking adv420, this is my first advertising course afte r I changed my major from general management to Advertising. I am also really intersted about media things. My favorite social media platform is instagram because I think is more easy to use and get the information, what is your favorite social media platform? I want to create a adverstising company after I graduate, what do you want to do after graduate?
I am extremely excited for this class and it it has in store for me, the world is headed into this direction and will soon be completely dominated by technology and doing business over the internet and through many different social media outlets. My question is, how much of an advantage will us as students have over others not taking this class in the real world and how much do you think things will change in the next couple of years pertaining this information we are learning?
I'm so excited to take this class. I hope i can learn a lot from this class about the digital marketing. It is great to take this class because it can help a lot when you prepareing to enter new job marketong. I wonder know what is the proccess in the marketing how to communicate with customers? And why is social networks are so important for business?
I have heard many great things about ADV 420 and am looking forward to expanding my knowledge of all social media platforms. Not only do I find this class partucularly interesting, but with technology evolving everyday, I believe it will come to great use in my future. My question is, what is your favorite form of social media and why?
I truly am very excited for this class to get started, I can tell that ADV 420 will be very useful for my future careers. I have also had friends who have taken this class previously, and confirmed how helpful ADV 420 has been for them. Also I have previously been in charged with managing a companies social media account, and I know this class would have helped my efforts for that. The question I have is besides the major social media sites (Facebook, Twitter) what other platforms do you think would be most useful for researching our brand?
I am so excited to learn more about digital marketing, past what is only social media. Especially with PR, I feel like doing something for clients - press releases and handling social media platforms can become monotone and understanding more about techniques and skills that could make these jobs more worthwhile for clients would be a lot better and useful. Isn't it difficult to keep things new and fresh in a digital world that markets in such similar ways? I feel like creation and innovation are very important skills to have in this field. I am so excited to see what else we have in store - even posting on this platform is already helping me expand my understanding.
I honestly am so happy to come here and broaden everything I am learning. Especially after transferring from WMU, I am gaining a lot more experience and enjoying what I am learning so far. From the looks of it, we are going to having a great semester, and I am excited to continue building my skills in my major of Advertising. Isn't it scary to take that leap and risk as an entrepreneur? Even changing schools was a huge step and leap of courage, I can't even imagine that in the business world, where there is monetary risk as well.
I have heard nothing but good things about this course. This past summer I developed the social media calendar for a major company in Grand Rapids as well as created my own social media campaign for the same brand on Twitter so I am excited to learn some things that I can apply to the real world. While working with this company I was constantly on the lookout for creative new ways for the company to connect to clients; my question for you guys is what do you think the next big thing in social media will be? Do you think the user experience can be more interactive or have we reached the limits of how brands and companies interact?
I am very excited to start this class. I've only heard great things about it. As a junior finally taking classes that are specific to my major its an exciting time for me knowing that for the first time i will be learning and educating myself on topics that im actually interested in. My question is what finally clicked in your head that made you say "i should start my own company"? I love icky the minds of entrepreneurs and hearing what they have to say.
Me too!
Having a few friends already take ADV 420 in year's past, I can say I am absolutey thrilled to be finally taking this course. I've heard great things about Derek and seeing Ross's how to videos online and the effort he puts into them make me very comfortable that I will thrive in the class this semester. I've always been a huge fan of social media. I think being yourself and displaying your humor in social media is always great fun that all your followers can enjoy anytime, anywhere. Seeing social media grow into such a big and interesting marketing tool for big corporations across the globe also puts me in awe of how powerful media marketing can be and I hope to learn diverse ways to acheive in the greatest ways in social media marketing. My question I have this week is that what new social media platforms could we possibly see in the future for many years to come? We already have Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and so much more. What else are we missing? What else do we need? It's an interesting thought to think about.
I'm really looking forward to taking this class. As an avid social media used I'm excited to see how to use it in a more professional way. I'm also excited to build a LinkedIn and pintrest profile and actually learn how to use them. I've heard really great things about this course so I can't wait to experience it myself. I've always wondered what social media playform employers look at the most? And how do businesses successfully use pinterest?
I am pretty excited to take this class because I think that ADV 420 will help my career. I am very interested in public relations and social media, but I want to know more about it because I am not very used to it yet. I am not sure how to deal with marketing through the media yet. My question is; what brings you to teach this class and what does social media mean to you? What is your favorite form of social media and which do you think is best for marketing?
I think this professor is very funny, I think this course must be very helpful for me, I am not good at social media, especially digital media, I am not good at using Twitter, Facebook, so I think after this class, I can learn a lot .But I am confuse about after this class what other else I will learn?
That's some good-looking professor right there, but seriously I am eager to see what this class has to offer me in the future. Already feel like I learned alot and that was just from the first homework assignment. It is so great that colleges are adding more and more classes about social media and the internet as a whole, instead of just being boring fossils that stick to the same material for decades on end.
Many companies have multiple brands within the umbrella company. What do you suggest is the best way to keep a consistent message accross all social media platforms when the products of the brands are vastly different?
Hello! I also am an advertising major. I wish there was a way to get to know my classmates, but online classes make this pretty difficult.
How did you (this group of instructors) come to meet, and why did you choose to teach this class?
Really looking forward to taking this course! I have friends who took it last semester and really enjoyed it!
My question to you is how important is it to restrict what is on your social media? I had a friend who got hired on the Anheuser-Busch account at an agency in NY and was told by her peers, after getting the job, that they looked on her social media during the interview process to see if she drank. But normally I would think drinking photos wouldn't be a good idea on social media. Thoughts?
I am beyond excited for this class! I have wanted to take this since my friends were in it last year and told me truly how useful this class is in the real world. I need to step my game up in the social media marketing world, seeing as our entire society will soon enough be all digital. I thought that Professor Mehraban was absolutely halarious and engaging and look forward to all that I can learn from him. I was just curious about personal Facebook profiles. Do marketers and future employers put that much emphasis on accounts as I have heard, or is that somewhat of a rumor?
Thank you,
Zac Small
hi my name is yi fang, i really enjoy our first class, very interesting and useful for me, advertising is my major, so i really hope i can learn things from this class, so i want to know what is new media really do on social media, is it effective for people? and how does new media works with people?
I took a class over the summer that had a lot to do with social media. I am so excited to be able to take this class and learn more/other aspects of social media.
Advertising has changed so much in the past decade, I was wonding in which ways social media advertising is evolving today and where it might be in 5-10 years. Do you think social media advertising will still be relevent in the near future?
Really excited about this class. I love being able to actually take what I am learning in the classroom and transferring that into my real-life work. By doing so, I am able to maximize my potential of learning inside and out of the classroom. As I am currently working for the company that I using as my brand all semester, I think it is a great opportunity to get to know the company that I am working for- and not just knno but really know and try and help from within. How can I effectively from within use hubspot to help the brand? Is that possible?
I love it!!
-Molly
I'm really looking forward to this class- it seems like it will give me practical and real-world experience while simultaneously building off the previous ADV classes I've taken at MSU. One of my favorite classes I've taken in ADV was Special Topics in Digital Analytics, where I got to become familiar with not only several Digital Marketing strategies, but also get a lot of hands on experience with Google Analytics. Since I've learned these things can be measured, I am curious as to (if utilized correctly) which social media platforms seem to be the most effective?
I've always been interested in the forces that drive brand's usage of social media. I'm excited to learn through this course the mindset that companies are in and how I can apply similar ideas to myself and future employers. It also is nice to see the passion that you both clearly share to be teaching this course coupled with the overwhelmingly positive responses former students have given. After completing the reading for this week, I'd have to say that the biggest question I had was regarding Gerard Vroomen's quote, "...if the point is for our company to get noticed, we can't do it the same as everybody else." He was referencing the website that he and his partner had built for OPEN but it made me wonder, how is a brand supposed to stand out on social media when they're confined to such limited spaces? In this day and age, how does a company forgo the constraints of platforms to make their pages unique and representative of their brand?
This is the class I am most excited for this semester. From what I have heard, this class is what you make of it, so I plan to take 100% advantage. I am a major coffee lover, so having Peet's Coffee as my brand is really exciting. I like their sophisticated image and that they're not as well known as Starbucks or Bigby...it gives me a challenge. My question is: How do you use Pinterest as a marketing tool? Is it actually effective?
I loved the first day of class! Hearing that both professors have plenty of real world experience (good/bad) was comforting and encouraging. This class seems as though it is designed to help it's students succeed and that's greatly appreciated! I love being able to go at my own pace in this course and get things done on my own time. The professors seem extremely accessible if needed and very down to earth. I'm excited for a great semester! I would like to know what your best suggestion is for making online profiles attractive to all future employers? What are some of the minor "do's" and "don'ts" of social media that many individuals may not recognize?
I'm so thrilled to be in ADV 420. Two of my best friends at state, who are communication majors, said this was the most fun and useful class they had their four years at Michigan State. All of our activities seem enjoyable and something that I will need to know in my near future. I was to be on the creative team for a magazine or company so branding and strategy is very important. Becoming more knowledgeable on these topics will better prepare me for my future. I also havent made a LinkedIn yet, so this class forcing me to create a profile makes me happy! I would like to know how perosnal social media accounts can help me througout my professional career and not hinder me?
I have heard great things about this course, and I really enjoyed our first session. I am looking forward to learning more about social media marketing and the things that companies can do with these new forms of communication. Most of my social media pages are underdeveloped (my LinkedIn and my Twitter are the main culprits), and I would like to use this class to enhance my online presence. Which social media websites would you say that employers look at the most?
I have heard many great things about this class from friends and colleagues so I look forward to taking it. I thoroughly enjoyed the presentations given by Derek and Graham on the opening day of class and I can't wait to absorb the vast amounts of knowledge that you guys have to offer. The question I have this week is: How do you enhance your LinkedIn profile to attract potential employers?
I am very excited to be in this class. The fact that you both have the experience helps me see how practical this class will be. I know that there are real world things that I will be able to learn here.
Is it better to dive right into creating on your own or go work for someone first to learn?
I am thankful that this class is taught by professionals with experience! In the past, some of the most valuable things I have learned have come from someone who has experienced and lived through the topics they teach. Although I have job experience in the social media/community manager fields, I am always interested in learning how to apply new technologies and techniques to the internet marketing atmosphere. Although this class focuses heavily on online content, I am curious as to the number of customers that do not use social media/the Internet to keep up with brands (?), and how global brands use social media to attempt to get these consumers' attention?
I am quite excited for this class! I think it's a great way to get some experience for the job.
What is your favorite platform to advertise on?
I am so excited to take this class as I have heard many wonderful things about it from other students. As far as our personal social media accounts, what are emplyoers looking/not looking for when previewing a potential candidate? Does our social media need to be strictly business?
I always used social media as a way to connect with other people and keep up on sports, but then this summer I was able to use it for business purposes. In what ways do businesses interact with consumers that the consumers aren't even aware about?
I am very happy to attend this class and it the time nearly the final. I have learned a lot by this class do a lot research and done one and another project. The class is amazing, it's kind a relax class but i can learned a lot by this. Thank you professor
