One of the challenges of teaching a class like this -- or working in digital marketing -- is keeping up with the latest changes in our industry. Nearly every day, some major announcement comes out that is important to stay up on. Our clients expect it!
Yesterday, Twitter announced a major change allowing users to post multiple photos to an individual tweet - or to tag individual users in photos. While this is something other social networks have allowed for a long time (think Facebook), it's huge news for Twitter.
You can also now tag people in photos:
Tagging people in a picture makes conversations around photos fun and easy. And tagging doesn’t affect character count in the Tweet — you can tag up to 10 people in a photo and still have all 140 characters at your disposal, making it easier to connect with your friends. If you’re the one being tagged, you’ll get a notification. You can adjust notifications, as well as who can tag you, in your Settings.
Here's your challenge: think of some creative ways you could use this new Twitter feature for one of your (future) clients. How might this be useful in marketing? Be creative!
Comments & Feedback
I created twitter years ago and havent really used over the last two years. I look forward to see how I can utilize my twitter account to market my personal brand as future business professional.
In my opinion, this new software update brings a great new feature that was long overdue. From my experience with marketing on Facebook, this attribute allows for much more engagement to be stimulated when posting pictures. Overall, I believe this update will be very beneficial for digital marketers.
I think the new feature Twitter recently added is great. Sometimes its difficult for people, expecially companies to get their point across with just the 140 character limit. This new change will allow companies more oppertunity to get their message across and for it to reach specific people.
I still havent realized this new update yet, maybe its my lack of using twitter but i havent realozed it at all. But i really like the idea that they are doing even though its already been done by facebook and instagram. I have to check to see if i can use this new update.
I think the new update from Twitter is not only useful for business, but also helpful to marketing positioning.
Since Twiiter allow users to post only 140 words for one tweet. Pictures can convey more info so that it can help users to output complete idea.
In addtion, tagging people in photos can make direct connection between users and their targets. For business, one official tweet with mutiple pictures is definitely more entertaining. People tend to attracted by images instead of words. Besides, with people tagged in photos can enhace the range that one tweet can reach. People love to be engaged with fun things, posting pleasing images, tagging your target audience in them is going to bring you more business.
I like the new change of their photo and tagging system. I think Facebook has been benfited by this system for long time too. It can be a great tool in many ways such as uploading pictures of a company's co-companies and other events that company has or has done will let other businesses to engage more easily.
A way someone could use this new Twitter feature for future clients is by tagging partner companies when appropriate. This would bring their company to the attention of their partner company's followers who might not know of their company otherwise. Their partner company's follower are obviously interested in the business their partner does and will probably be interested in their business as well. It is also a good way to engage in conversation the accounts you are tagging. This could also be used to show sponsorship; to show followers who supports you and who you are working with. This can be extremely helpful in helping shape the image of your brand. If done corectly, it could increase the number of follower by attracting your sponsor's followers and create more interest in your brand from people who are loyal consumers of your sponsor.
I really like this new feature! I think the best part of it for clients would be that the pictures and tagging names doesn't affect the character count. Say you are working on a political campaign and want to tweet a picture of your candidate and someone they are meeting with, you can tag both of them without using an unneccesary amount of characters for their names. This is great because it allows more space for modified tweets from followers, which is what you are looking for when created a tweet! Plus it's great for personal use too!
I absolutely love this new feature. They say a picture is worth a thousand words but on twitter you only get 140 characters. This way when taking pictures of an event you can fully display all the companies and people there and involved with the event without taking away from the tweet with the picture. It is a more organized way to display pictures on twitter.

This new tagging feature seems like a great way for celebreties or spokespersons to endorse their clients. After uploading a new photo (or photos), just tag your endoresments, prompt media-enrished discussion and negotiate for more money in the future. Maybe skip the last part, but at least your endorsements will appreciate the added attention.
I think this was a great addition to Twitter. When in charge of a client's digital marketing campaign, ads on twitter will become more informative and beneficial. When advertising a client's product, you will be able to feature multiple photos of a product or a brand's feature--allowing for the twitter user to learn more about the product that's being advertised. You could also tag your brand in pictures for un-specific accounts. For instance-let's say the account "food porn" posts a picture of a large, mouthwatering pizza. If your client is Dominos and is tagged, you'll have increased brand awareness (and probably an increase in sales).
This is an interesting aspect that Twitter has come out with. The first thing that came to my mind after reading was that for a brand like Burberry where they have so many products to display, they can tweet a picture with different products and tag those itms with their prices. Other thing can be done is tag the designers who designed each of those products. This is sure to boost the sales as it gets star power by affiliating all these designers' names.
If this is used for some some social marketing drive by a brand as theri corporate social responsibility drive, they can tag all famous personalities who support that cause. This can really help the company by widening their reach.
I think this will be a great opportunity for those who use Twitter for PR. For instance, if you're live tweeting an event being put on by your company, in one tweet you can explain what the event is, and where it is, show what it looks like and make it known that certain people, such as celebrities are there. The benefit being that you can use several pictures and not waste characters tagging those who are present. I think this gives Twitter an edge on Facebook in no matter the use, by incorporating a lot of the aspects that used to differentiate Facebook.
What's great about the ability to Tweet multiple photos at once is that it'll help you tell your client's story in a more effective way. For instance, if you're live-tweeting an event, you might not have a unique caption for four different photos, but they are four photos you want to share. Now you can simply Tweet those four all at once.
Regarding the photo tagging, I think that will help companies connect with people on a more personal level. At a public event, for example, the company can take a picture with multiple individuals and tag them on Twitter. That expands the company's reach and, like I said, allows the company to connect with individuals.
I think these steps help make Twitter a more effective social media platform for digital marketing and closes the gap between them and Facebook.
This is definitely a great change for Twitter and it is going to allow for so many more conversations. This would be a great tool for a Twitter contest. Followers could tag multiple pictures for the client and the winner is chosen on the best group of pictures. The client could also create a puzzle contest. Upload one photo, an hour later upload another that creates a bigger picture. This could be used to announce a new product launch or product line. Clients could also tag some of their followers in pictures and do something as simple as just following them or send them a prize. This would let the cosumers and fans of the brand know that they are appreciated by the company.
I think this will be hugely successful for Twitter because of it's focus on sharing and making it easier, especially because more Twitter users are using their mobile devices. Facebook seems to be on the way out because Twitter is more commonly used throughout the day. I think this will help Twitter and attract Instagram users especially because you can no longer post Instragram photos directly to Twitter. It will also be a great tool for "photo challenges" for social media contests to increase engagement
I would like to run a campaign to ask people to take photos of five decorated products and tag his firends on the product. For example, if our client is Budweiser, one may have five Budweiser bottles, and each of them may have some words or decorations like tissue. Then the photo of the five distinctive bottles will be posted on Twitter with tags on five firends. The most tweeted one can win $1,000.
This is a huge step for Twitter, especially because more young people are deleting their Facebook pages and moving to other forms of social media. This could be useful in marketing in many ways. First, there are a lot of giveaways or contests that happen over Twitter. The winners could be tagged in a photo and receive notification and that's how they could find out that they won! Another way it could be used is to tag models in pictures, which would help them with their publicity as well. If people could tag themselves in pictures, they could visit a company's Twitter account after a big event and look through pictures to see if they can tag themselves and that would bring a lot of attention the the company as well. Needless to say, there are lots of ways that this change could be really helpful marketing, these are just a few of them.
I think that it is great that Twitter has caught on to the idea of "tagging" people in photos. This would be very helpful for businesses because they can use this tagging feature to create more personal relationships between a company and their clients. Tagging someone in a photo and having them see it seems much more personal than just tweeting at someone or retweeting them. Also, this would make it easier for businesses to reach out to potential clients because through these tagged photos they will have more access to different Twitter users in a similar group. It also would eliminate the 140 character limit issue, which some Twitter users might have occasionally been frustrated about.
Because you don't have to be "friends" with someone to now tag a picture on Twitter (unlike Facebook), you can increase and broaden your social media outreach. Let's say a company or a well-known public figure hosts an event. You can post the pictures from that event and tag attendees with the caption, "It was great to meet all of you! Can't wait for our next conference," or something to that effect. In reference to the brand I'm presenting for my final project, Adidas, I could envision brand marketing expanding on Twitter through these photo tags with little to no cost to the company. Consumer interaction with Twitter pages could include tagged group selfies or pictures in Adidas gear or of workouts or sports using Adidas products. It would allow other consumers to see "real" people using products, and not just the glossy fitness model on the inside cover of a magazine. In this example, Adidas would be able to establish a relateable brand image and brand loyalty.
I think one way this could be useful to a company would be if the customer had an issue with a product they could post a picture of the issue if it was physical, and tag the company they bought it from explaining the problem. This would allow the company to respond very quickly and have access to this persons information to contact them to resolve the issue. One way that I can see this being a problem though is the photos that can be posted on twitter. Unlike facebook twitter has no filter for inappropriate content, so with that being said the people that can be tagged in these photos could be very respectable people or companies and would give them a bad image.
altough im not a fan of Twitter, i can i still feel teh convinence of this new feature. Tagging people in picture, is a existed feature in Facebook, and this is going to enhance the popularity of Twitter.
recently, the Chinese version of Twitter, which is named Weibo, has launched familiar feature also. the original poster also can add watermark or barcode for other subscribes to scan or link, which is also pretty cool to investigate more.
This could be useful in a varitey of ways for future clients of my accounting firm. First, since you can now tag other twitter handles in pictures, companies can team up and go on a full blown twitter campaign together by solely tagging each other in them. Also, you now do not need to personally post to/about a single company. This will allow greater collaboration and decreased hours spent posting on social media, which will result in lower wages and expenses paid to those related to the social media department.
The changes are awesome overall. For the tags, I think it will be a big borad for me to wirte my first reaction right direct to the image when I first see it. I have used this function in some other social medias. The tags make tweets much more fun than before, numbers of peope would like to share things through it. It helps you to tihink more than what you think, more ideas and thoughts are gathered in same image, and it bring more views to us.
I think this new feature could be a good help for marketing especially digital marketing. You could use this feature to tag a brand in one of your campaigns which could instantly give your consumers a link tho their brand page. I know that this would be extremely helpful becuse a lot of the time people don't know where to search on the web for things like this. This can also give more options when it comes to brand advertising. It's very helpful to put everything into one tweet instead of 4 different ones, plus it keeps the consumer more engaged.
I think the fact Twitter is allowing multiple photos to be added in one tweet, and being able to tag up to ten people in a post is going to be very useful for companies. I think having multiple photos uploaded at once will help because instead of searching through your Twitter for more pictures, it is conveniently in one post. As far as being able to tag people in the posts, that seems huge as far as business goes because you will be able to spread your post to people and then they will get the notification without even having to see it in their news feed first. It is a great way to get something out there.
This new photo tagging feature is really great for twitter users. It can make tweets more fun and interesting. It can also be beneficial to our future business. I think this new change can create a better connection for both people who are tagged and people who tag. I think it benefits companies especially who focuses on visual pictures, such as food and clothing. And people can make conversations around the picture which makes it more obvious. I think people would like to be tagged on a photo and this is a new way to interact!
A change like this will allow compaines to better connect with clients and potential clients. If they are part of an event you could tag them in the event picture. If you want them to see that you are connected with a certain person or type of person you can tag them in photos. However, I do feel that this is making Twitter more like Facebook and is somewhat ruining it's uniqueness.
This is really exciting news to hear from Twitter. I think one of the best, perhaps most obvious, things to come from this change is that you can tag someone in a picture in a post instead of tagging them in the characters of your tweet which would allow you to say more in the actual tweet. You could post a picture that is an idea for a client and tag several clients it applies to on twitter. However, I think it's a little interesting as well that this is a lot like facebook and instagram now so I'm wondering if it will start causing people to only use twitter if they have a better following base on there. It should be interesting to see how much this new feature is used!
The new photo tagging feature of twitter could be use to snap a photo of a product to promote it. Tagging a photo with ten well sourced people and a well thought out and affective caption, you could draw a lot of buzz around your photo. As a result, this could get your photo and the hasthag trending if it is special enough and will draw attention to the product and brand you are promoting. It would be even better if you could get a photo of a celebrity endorsing the product and tag people because that would really draw up some attention.
This could be useful for future businesses interacting with other businesses in that you can send multiple photos of date in one tweet rather than sending multiple tweets. I do not think this will be a huge impact on the site, but I do feel as if this is similar to facebook's "photo album" type deal. It will be good for businesses that base most of their businesses on pictures, such as food companies or clothing companies.
I will post greeting crad picture on every festival, then tag my clients for a better relationship.
This new feature could be effectively used for a Twitter campaign. Allowing the tagging of people would create more opportunites for people to retweet especially if they have been tagged. It could be used with Twitter contests for fans and a message would be spread with more reach if there wasn't as much as a worry for it stay within 140 characters. I think this new feature will benefit both companies and consumers.
If I were to use the new features professionally, I would tag my clients in a photo to celebrate and negotiation or deal that we have made. I wouldn't use it very much, but only for special occasions. It could be useful with marketing because you could tag any possible customers to a photo that promotes your company.
Twitter has become a great way for customers and companies to interact with each other. However, Twitter has been limiting when it comes to posting numerous photos and the amount of characters you can use in your post. This new change could change everything in terms of companies using social media for digital marketing. Yes, Facebook has always allowed you to post pictures, make posts, etc. Now that Twitter has this same feature I think that it'll make it much more popular. Twitter has always been a more instantaneous way to reach out to people and now that you can simultaneously upload photos, it'll only become more popular.
Although I don't use Twitter often I think that this could be a very valuable and useful feature to add to the website. I honestly only use my account for this class, however, I think that if I was a huge fan of Twitter I would use this to connect people to my tweets. This feature would give my page some traffic and help me to attract more followers. I think that companies could use this to market and this tool could be used to get people to check out your tweets. Marketing is all about getting people to see and have interest in your stuff, so I think that this new tool would be useful in luring people in to seeing what you are talking about and what is the newest trend.
With the ability to add multiple photos, a photo album or a series of photos can be utilized to build a more elaborate or in-depth message. Additionally, with the ability to tag people through the photo instead of using character space, high-profile users can be tagged in photos and utilized to gain attention for a message or campaign. This could be incredibly useful when attempting to get trending on Twitter, as the message can be writter in the full 140 characters and a picture attached to offer a visual element.

Its about time twitter allowed the ability to tag multiple people in pictures along with inserting multiple pictures into one tweet. A useful tool has been created and now it is up to businesses to take advantage of this function to get that much more criteria. A good use for the ability to tag multiple pictures at once is, for a business to provide a picture contest for something such as best daily activities, best exercises or even best vacation photos. A good example is for Royal Caribbean to host a contest for best photo of an event on a boat.
Photos are have shown to one of the most powerful types of content in social media. Twitter will definitely be able to take advantage of the effect of photos. Or in other words, marketers who can try to push their brand with more complex actions. For example, tagging people to a picture ma lead to a sense of exclusivity Having a limit of 10 people makes it more desirable to be tagged on a picture in a brand community. Brands can create attractive competitions, sharing-appeals such as "Tag 10 people who can proof that you are the biggest Dr. House fan!."
This new Twitter feature will really help develop the social media world with marketing and advertising. One of the first things that I thought of is the fact that you can tag people in a photo. This will be rather interesting because this can be done all over the world. Imagine a product like M&M's. They are a candy that can be enjoyed all over the world. If they were to start a campaign claiming how they are enjoyed by the entire world, people all over the world could take pictures of themselves eating M&M's and tag M&M's in the photo and tweet it. It would be amazing to see the product used all over the world. M&M's could then start up a contest to see who had the most creative picture of people enjoying M&M's all over the world. Whoever wins the contest could win a free week trip to New York to visit M&M world or a trip to the Vegas Location, and include other goodies. Not only will this cause people to start buying M&M's and participate in the contest, it will also create a large amount of publicity for the product.
As a continuous and frequent user of Twitter, this particular new feature is very appealing. Photos have now become a huge component in company branding and promotion of products among social media outlets such as Facebook and Instagram. It's no secret that companies are able to better grasp the attention of the target market buy use of photos. Companies can utilize this new feature on twitter to their advantage. Even though we were previously able to attach pictures to a certain tweet, we are now able to tag users to the photo as well as upload more than one photo per tweet. This will make it more convenient and less annoying for followers of a certain user and will also allow for more interaction between both ends of the Twitter spectrum. I would definitely use pictures when working with my clients. For example, if there was an important event or meeting I was assisting my client with, I would make sure to tweet and attach multiple pictures to show advertise and show everything that would be at the event. It will be interesting to see where this new development goes, but I think it will benefit
The ability to tag photos on Twitter unlocks a unique capability. You can now tag your company whenever your product is out in the media world. A unique way to use the tagging function would be tagging your company or product handle in movie scenes. When companies come up with an agreement to have their product featured in a film, they should negotiate the option of tagging their company in feature posts by the film and earned media.
you could use this new twitter feature for my client Walmart, by taking a picture of you using one of their products and tag the product as walmart and tag youself and hashtag it to walmart so they see it and they could make a campaign out of viewing who has the best picture using one of thier products.
I use twitter often but the new update doesn't really excite me. Personally I don't post many photos to twitter, but I can see how it could become useful for people. When posting tweets it is often difficult to ensure everyone you want to see can see it. For example if I am posting a tweet that involves a group of my friends, tagging their user names often takes up majority of my 140 characters and I often end up being forced to leave people out or not say everything I have to say. Also, this will allow companies to post more than one picture which may make it easier for them to get more information out about a product. Something could be seen in a picture that they will not need to write in their 140 characters.
I have never thought that twitter would turn into a a social media website that uses pictures. However, having the tagging ability on Twitter will be great for marketing. This new aspect will allow people to become more engaged. Tagging people in pictures will get other people connected as well.
I’ve never really used twitter for personal pleasure. I have only used it for this class, but this new feature indicates a valuable resource for marketing. Marketers can use the photo tags to draw more people into their twitter page—which is technically a blog. This technique goes back to the lessons we have learned in class. Tagging and blogging about bloggers, will attract more people from those bloggers pages. Linking to other bloggers creates more followers!
I have yet to update my Twitter App. yet, but I'm sure it could be a nice change. Being able to tag people in your pictures or post mulitple pictures could be help Twitter compete with Facebook. Lately, it seems like Facebook is only used to post pictures, so the Twitter update might get more people to use their app.
I haven't used twitter at all before this class but I made my account on twitter due to this class. I did not know how twitter is working since I only used facebook. However, I realized why many famous people use twitter to communicate with their fans. I think that twitter is easy to use for socializing due to follow and tag systems. As keep using this system, it can be influential in the business since communication is very important in business life esplecially marketing. By developing twitter, lots of business can work much more beneficial in online.
