Personalized Search is the New Search

Consider sharing it with your friends.

Personalized search is just the new search. Every search is personalized now, no 2 people see the exact same search results.

For this reason, many people claim that personalized search is killing SEO as we know it. Not true. While personalized search may cause tracking SEO to become more difficult, personalized SEO actually makes optimization easier. You no longer have to be globally relevant where global relevance is not necessary, only have to be the most relevant for the people doing the queries

Google Peronalized Search

For some time now, Google has been paying attention to (and using) your geographic location, language and context from previous search queries to deliver the most relevant (personalized) results. They keep track of your search patterns and preferences to learn what you like to see and how you like to see it. But it’s not just Google, all search engines are providing personalized search results now.

Regardless of the search engine you choose, every time you search, that information helps the engines understand what you’re trying to do, or your intent. The more you search, the more they learn. The search engines use that information to tailor-fit your search results and make the searching experience more personalized.

So what’s the tip here for ranking well in these new personalized search results? Just do your best to answer the search query a user just typed in the search bar.

Have you noticed Personalized Search on your Google results? How will this impact businesses and SEO practices for the future?

Overall, I think the personalized search is a good thing. The people who think it is an invasion of privacy I think need to just look at the whole concept differently. You are Google's customer. Yes they use information you give them and your history to direct your search results but they are doing it in order to better serve their customer, you. Yes, this information has benefits to google and other companies as well but all in all they are handling it just like any other customer experience service should. When you go into a car dealership to buy a car they don't just point you to showroom and tell you to look around. They ask you about your background. Kids? Past cars? Features interested in? They help direct you to the right car by getting to know you a bit better. In my opinion personalized search is doing the same thing. It is tracking you in order to be more beneffitial to you in the future and I think that is fine to do. Also I think personalized search will really be beneficial especially for smaller local businesses, or companies who are reaching a smaller niche audience. It gives others a better shot at ranking higher in your search results. All in all I think personalized search will be better for SEO, and better for us as individuals.

I have started to notice personalized searches as I have become more knowledgeable about the process. I think that it is good for the consumer because it helps to narrow down the expansive resources available on the web. For example, if you were searching for a car part, personalized searches would be extremely valuable. They would have record of your location and could give locations in the area that might have those products. I don't think that this is going to hurt marketing efforts. I believe that it could help organizations because their messages would target specific people who would be most likely to click on their site. By focusing on local businesses, smaller companies who advertise on the web have a chance to succeed.
