Everyone is talking about the social network Pinterest. What are you thoughts? My friend C.C. Chapman has a nice video that you can watch and comment. Do you use it? Would you recommend it to a client? How do you see companies using Pinterest in the future? Do you have any companies who are doing a great job now using Pinterest?
Comments & Feedback
I personally don't like Pinterest, however I have really never used it since it doesn't do anything for me. I have no use for it at all and find it kind of pointless. I do think however, that if Pinterest became a little more personal, more people, including myself, would consider joining it. Pinterest should take some aspects of Facebook or Twitter in order to make it become quite a bit more popular. Since I don't know much about it, I would not recommend it to a client. From a business standpoint however, I do not think it would be the best advice to use.
Pintrest is one of those media sites that does a great job in taking up my time. I am always on Printrest when I should be doing something else. I think that Printrest is a great way to find helpful ideas, recipes or crafts without knowing that was what you are looking for. I find myself making recipes that I would have never even thought to type into Google for the recipe. I can see Pintrest being helpful to companies that are in the health field, crafts, fitness, apparel, beauty and furniture. I think that Pintrest would only be helpful to a limited amount of businesses and only a limited audience. Most people using Pintrest are people aged 16 to 55 and women. On Pintrest you need to use original pictures to drive interest. People are on Pintrest to get ideas that they have never had or seen themselves. The Pintrest users also need to be so interested in the pin that they will not only look at the picture but then click on the picture to go to the main link.
Let me just say this first- I LOVE PINTEREST. I am a huge fan of this social network because it has such innovative ideas on it and many helpful tips and tricks for everyday things. Now, I don't think that pinterest would be helpful for all types of companies. I think retail or accessories would be a great way for free advertising, if you link it back to your company's website. I have seen so many little boutiques that have cute stuff, but aren't recognized gain major publicity and sell out due to their popularity on pinterest. This is a great tool to utilize if you are in the right business. I'm not sure what I see companies doing in the future with Pinterest, unless there are different angles that they can find.
Pinterest is pretty much a new thing in my life, I just started using it for my CAS class this semester, but I don't see anything interested me on pinterest. I think it is just like instergram, people share their pictures, the only differents is you can repin the picture from anywhere you want in pinterest, but you can't share others photoes on your intergram ( unless you download it and reupload it on your intergram). But there is one thing that I think pinterest is great, they have all kinds of photos on there, you can search any category you want to see. This is a huge benifit to those photographiers. However, the group that using Pinterest may be smaller than the group which using facebook and twitter since they only post photos on Pinterest. It's only good for those people who love to share their stories by photos, but how about those people who don't like taking pictures?
I used to think pinterest was awesome, until it got too girly. I started used pinterest at the beginning of time, and now I hate it. I like the concept, but I notcied that its all about girl crafts, and fashion. I guess there isnt enough intrerests for me to follow, but still. I think its not what its all hyped up to be, therefore, I stopped using it.
I am a big Pinterest fan, and I believe it has great potential for certain clients and businesses. The focus on using visuals and images offers companies the ability to not only promote their products and their brand personality, but also to gain insight into their followers, or potential customers, individual personalities. Pinterest’s format can serve companies as both a marketplace and a platform for market research.
Lowe’s, the home improvement and home garden store, has done a great job of using Pinterest. Lowe’s recent campaign theme of “never stop improving” works well with Pinterest’s concept. While Lowe’s is promoting specific products found in its stores and creative improvement ideas, fellow pinners are repining those products and developing plans to “never stop improving” with Lowe’s help.
I'm new to Pinterest, but I like it because I can use it as a vision board of ideas and things I like or think about on a personal basis while liking products that I use or find interesting. I think Pinterest would be a good place for smaller businesses to promote their products and get folks to repin it; it could send their products all around without much effort of their part. Larger companies could also promote their favorite products because folks seem to pin a lot of things they like. I've heard men say its a chick site (and they talk about it in the video), but I don't agree. I see Pinterest as a place to display your interests be it fashion or football...jewelry or camping. It's not a place for everyone, but that's true of most social media sites. Find what you like and go for it!
I think Pinterest is a waste of time. It is something for people to do when they are bored or are trying to distract themselves from doing something else. I do not have an account because as I see it you just look at pictures and pin the ones you like and you are able to see what pictures your friends like as well. I would not recommend it to a client because I do not know what the client would get out of using the website. I do see companies using Pinterest in the future. Since so many people do use the website I believe companies will eventually put some of their items on the Pinterest website in the future. It would be a good way to advertise new products and possibly attract new and more consumers. I do not know of any companies doing a good job of using Pinterest as of right now since I do not use it.
I had heard of Pinterest for a while before I decided to create an account. I knew it sounded like something I would love and immediately become a fan of...as I did. I think its great that it is so easy to use, anyone can figure it out. The wide variety of topic areas covered is awesome because it makes it a practical site for anyone interested in art, fashion, food, photography etc. I also think its a great way for companies to get their product out there in the market. Within minutes of browsing you can go through tons and tons of pictures, information and ideas. If you have 100 followers and you pin something new that means 100 other people have potentially seen this pin. This makes the word of mouth process just that much faster.
I never used pinterest, but i have heard of it. I think it is a powerful tool for a company to market itself because it helps generate everyone's interest. Also, by following and pinning, it is easy to see what other people's interest so that we can narrow down everyone's interest and focus on what they like. For example, if one keep following something related to sports, as a sport company, we can focus this person more than others because he/she are more likely to purchase any sport related products.
By looking at other's interests, it is easier for companies to concentrate its focus on him because as a company, it knows what he/she likes and easier to recommend them to buy our products if our products are related to his/her interests.
I first heard about Pinterest sometime early during the fall semester, and I was hooked pretty quickly. We've all been around the internet to know that we're bombarded daily by pictures of things that we like or wish we had. What I love about Pinterest is that I can take all of these things and keep them on a virtual pinboard to refer to later. If i see a hairstyle that I want to try eventually - pin it. If I see a delicious food recipe I want to try - pin it. If I see a pair of shoes I want - pin that! (you get the idea)
While it may seem that Pinterest is meant for the uber creative and crafty, I think it's much more than that. Even basic users can be inspired by the things they see. What I also think is so revolutionary about Pinterest is that when you see something that interests you, food, clothing, shoes, etc, you can click on the picture and be taken immediately to the source (whether it be a recipe blog, online store, or what have you). This, to me, is what makes Pinterest a powerful tool for marketers.
However, I have heard some concern from those Pinners who were the first to start pinning that the site is losing it's original purpose, so I'm not sure how well blatent marketing on the site would go over with long-term, original users.
I first came upon Pinterest while reading Ceramics Monthly Magazine sometime last year (2011). The article I read positioned Pinterest as a site that would let you “pin” your favorite images from the web to a space of your own on Pinterest.com. The article I read was pretty vague and heavily weighted towards those involved with the fine arts.
The next time I heard of Pinterest was December 2011 at a holiday gathering with family. This is when I learned what Pinterest really is…a site where everyone can post oh so cute things, really good-looking food, and some clever oddities. Aka after talking to the fam. I was monumentally less interested in Pinterest because this encounter positioned it as a crafty ideas site for middle aged women and college females that are just pining away to one day be those middle aged women. Needless to say, Pinterest was put on the backburner yet again.
These days, yes I do have a Pinterest account and I use the site as a tool for organizing my vast art reference image collection. Oh and the fact that you have to be invited to Pinterest = genius! Who doesn’t feel special when someone finally lets you into that “exclusive” club?
Actually this is the first time I heard about Pinterest. When I checked out the website, I found I will definitely like the website which is all about creative, unique and cute things, but I probably will not buy anything on it. I remember there is another successful website called Esty, which has the similar idea as Pinterest, and I still keep the Esty app on my iphone and I checked it out regularly to see the fresh idea and beautiful design. It is really a good way to share with people and gain attention, but for business, I think it needs more incentive to drive people to actual purchase.
The first time I heard about Pinterest was probably in November. I saw it all over Twitter and decided to give it a look. In order to join, you must request an invite or have an existing member invite you. Once I joined, I was addicted and I mean ADDICTED. I'd find myself on it 24/7 browsing through everything and repinning everything I found interesting. I love it for it's clever DIY items, foods (which I've made a majority that I've found), and fun fashion ideas. It's got just about everything! So yes, I certainly use it. A little less now than I use to though.
I think it could be beneficial to a company. Every pin that is made can be seen by everyone connected on Pinterest. Throwing out your idea/picture can be a big hit and passed on by many. It's a great way to create awareness. I don't think I've come across any specific companies using Pinterest yet, but I think it would be a great new social media to think about using.
I was a little hesitant to jump on the Pinterest bandwagon at first. At first I thought, "do I really need another website to give me more reasons to procrastinate?" But I just couldn't resist so I finally gave in and created my profile. I'm glad I did! I haven't yet become addicted (thankfully) but I do keep up with it. It's a great way to get neat ideas for recipes and DIY projects which I love. I also love the artsy aspect of it as well as the fashion inspiration. It's a great way to keep up on trends and interesting news. At first I couldn't really see how a business could utilize Pinterest, but after reading a few articles I found that it could be a great way for businesses to market their products!
I do not personally use Pinterest regularly, but I have visited the site with all the recent hype surrounding the website. I can see how people initially assume that it is a site only for women, because upon first opening the site you see a board that contains "everything", which seems to be dominated by fashion and food ideas. This is probably because women still represent the greatest percentage of Pinterest users. As the site grows to become adopted by more users I think the balance of gender targeted content may even out.
One thing I am surprised by on the website is that there is no specific music category. They group music with both film and books. I think they would be smart to separate these topics so that they can appeal to more specific buyer personas. Personally, I would be most interested in a music board. When I visited the film, books, and music board I was mostly unintrigued by the content because of the multiplicity. I could imagine how many other Pinterest users might have more specific interests that could be targeted better on the website. I'm interested to see how the website will develop in the future.
While I do not currently use Pinterest, I have a few friends who do. As I mentioned in my homework assignment, this article points out some current usability problems that I've noticed by watching other people use it. While I do think that it is currently lacking in organization, and I didn't really "get it" too well when I first tried to explore it, I think there are certain industries that will greatly benefit from this new social platform, most notably the wedding industry. I discussed it with some friends, and we agree that it is similar to Etsy, in what it provides to its users. However, at this point, I believe that it is still too far in its infancy to be a useful and stable service that will really take over. I think in the future we will see many companies using the service, as the eye candy it provides can be very appealing. I look forward to seeing what will happen to Pinterest in the future.
I personally do not use Pinterest. But I do have many friends using it and posting to it! Companies can use this as a tool to post about their work and as a forum to gain customer feedback. I personally do not know of any companies using Pinterest.
I love pinterest. I think it's a great way to collect media that you like, want to remember, or want to come back to. The power of pinterest is in its social recommendation power. Google+ has tried to tap into this from its +1 button, but pinterest does it better. Someone will only pin something or follow someone if they find the content interesting or helpful. Anyone insincere will not be followed, and any pins that are uninteresting will not be re-pinned.
I think that it could be a powerful tool in marketing, but it would have to be done transparently, sincerely, and in an interesting way. If a company has interesting content to share, I think a pinterest campaign could do wonders for them, but I doubt it would go very far in old school, product based campaigns. People would only share the pins if they liked what they saw.
I think pinterest is a good way to market yourself. You can show your interests and personality. It allows you to share with others because they are interested in the same thing you are. My pinterest, for example, has 54 followers, not because I marketed myself on it, but because I am dedicated to posting content I genuinely find interesting.
My experience with Pinterest has brought me to a few conclusions, please comment if you disagree (I personally don't have one, but I do for my blog). Highly used by girls, not really by guys. It's pretty exclusve, take a while to be accepted unless you get invited by someone. Ads aren't there, so it's great to not be distracted by ads and just by peoples Pins. I do like how they go though and tell people to find the original pictures, not someone who stole it, and also it's not for promoting your site.
Overall, it's not something for me, but it's a great way for people to find products or things they want in life all in one network.
I personally don't use pinterest, but I have a pending invitation for it. Although the site sounds entertaining I feel like that's all it is. It seems to be a lot of women posting clothing they like and recipes. For companies trying to use pinterest for advertising, I feel like it isn't going to do much for their company. I posted a link in the resources this week about how facebook and pinterest are lacking human emotion. Just "liking" something or pinning it up isn't going to commit a brand or company to your memory, it will quickly be forgotten. Also, if you are trying to sell a product you want to get it out to as many people as you can and as the video stated (and I personally have noticed) pinterest lacks men, which are half of a company’s market. I found an article for a guy’s guide to pinterest for men who are interested in utilizing the site. The man in the article states once you use the site to emphasize your interests a guy too can become addicted to pinterest, you just need to find your niche on the site. I'm thinking about making a pinterest after the semester is over so I'll be able to see what all the commotion is about but I'm not in any hurry to use it because I hear it's addicting and the last thing I need is another social media site to distract me from my education!
I love Pinterest! I use it almost everyday for inspiration on fashion or to find a new exercise to include in my workouts. I love that I can connect with people who share the same interests as me and see what they pin and potentially "repin" something for me to save and look at later. I can definitely see businesses or clients using Pinterest as a beneficial way to promote their products/services. For example, an online jewelry store could "pin" their jewelry to Pinterest and whomever followed them could repin it- it would be a domino effect. This way, many different people could see the jewelry and access the store website all within one pin. One business that I love and follow on Pinterest is Henri Bendel- they do a great job of pinning new inventory for their followers to see before they reach stores.
I think pinterest is fascinating, especially with how quickly it caught on. I'm not a user myself, but it went from "never heard of it" to "man, you gotta check out pinterest" in such a short turnaround.
It makes perfect sense from an internet perspective - we're so cluttered and barraged with images and products that having a singular place for our friends and associates to recommend things seems wonderful. And from browsing it, I noticed that the site is really beautifully laid out, and I think that helps it.
There does seem to be a gender gap there so far though - many of the products or things pinned to the initial front page do seem to skew towards women. I wonder if that will change over time.
I have yet to receive an invite from Pinterest but I am really eager to get started. I was introduced to this social networking platform a couple of weeks back by my friends and have since been surfing through the site when my friend is around to use her account. Never have I seen pictures in a more organized format. It's visually artistic design is understandable attractive for a more female-based audience. However, I have guy friends who enjoys this site as they said that it helps them look through their interest faster, cutting through all the clutter of words that may not even be relevant to their search in the first place. I think that the pin board layout has the same effect as video blogging in terms of visual interactions. Companies definitely consider these two social mediums because anything visual catches attention faster than words, it evokes feelings before the brain can process and digest the information. In addition, the idea of pinning a collection of things that you like on one page lets users themselves discover their real interest and perhaps, another side of them which they never discovered!
I just went to check out Pinterest for the first time after reading this post. Although I have never used Pinterest, I think that it is a great idea. I feel like, on top of the examples of using Pinterest for home decorating and wedding planning that the website provides, it could be a very useful tool in academics. You could combine a number of different articles, pictures, and other content relevant to paper topics, projects, and exam reviews. It could also be a useful for companies allowing them to group pictures, reviews, and related products together on one page. This would allow potential customers to get a complete picture of the company's product in one neat location.
I personally don't use Pinterest, yet. I do know many people that use it for shopping and even wedding planning. The ability to create a "theme" allows for a separation of ideas into categories. I see companies using Pinterest as a way to track hype for products and even promoting new products to users. There are many applications for a site that provides a collection into categories from throughout the web and companies will take the opportunity to connect. Wedding planning, and the companies that offer services alike, would be crazy to not offer a collection of possible and previously completed projects for the purpose of obtaining future clients of business.
I was shown pinterest last semester and have since lost countless hours that I should be studying due to this site. I enjoy pinterest because it allows me to follow and repin (post on my own personal pinterest) the things that I am interested in. It is a site full of pictures. If I am in the mood to salivate over delicious foods I can narrow my results to only food and beverages. That way I can get great ideas on recipes and food presentations to steal and show-off to my friends as my own. If I feel like getting crafty, especially during the summer when I have tons of free time, I can search through different DIY pinterests with fun ideas of everything from how to make a dress to how to recycle an old oatmeal canister into a vase.
I created a fitness blog as part of the previous assignment for this class and often go on the fitness section of pinterest to gain ideas to put on my blog. I implement these ideas in my personal life as well. The pinterest site really allows the individual user to personalize their account in ways that other social sites (like Facebook and twitter) can’t. I even like it more than blog sites like Tumblr because I don’t have to sift through different blogs and people’s sites to find the pictures that interest me. All I have to do is click on a button and whatever I want to view, whether it be fitness, food, wedding ideas, or humor, can be found with ease. Once I find things I like I can repin them, allowing me to revisit my favorites anytime I wish.
I can see Pinterest developing more into an advertising tool in the future. For example, it would be a good idea for businesses like Forever 21 to create a Pinterest. If they found a way to take unique pictures of their clothing that would be worthy of a repin by people on the site they would generate a lot of interest in their clothes. By having their own account it would be easy to include a link to reach their website quickly allowing fans to purchase the clothes they just repined. I think within the next year companies from all types of categories will be using Pinterest.
I made a deal with myself last semester that I wouldn't sign up for Pinterest until after final exams were over. So once winter break came along, with the time and freedom of the holidays, of course I found myself giving in. I'm glad I waited, because like I expected, it is addicting! I never gave into Farmville or a lot of other applications or services that seemed to cause a stir, but I promise that Pinterest lives up to all of the hype. I never really considered the business benefits or marketing strategies, it was just something "fun" when I initially joined. But I can now see the simple format and aesthetically appealing layout being a perfect way to brand something for a client. While I appreciate quality and creative writing, I know that I am more inclined to be visually attractied to something first. I see there being a future for companies using the organization and categorical grouping of images on Pinterest to outside pages. Pinterest is a great way to use the keyword elements of search engine optimization to drive online traffic to product and organization homepages. I'm curious and eager to follow this because I feel like I've been watching something groundbreaking happen from the very beginning. It's bound to explode and become something absolutely huge!
I am definately a Pinterest addict. I like to just browse when I need a break from my homework or get inspiration for my shopping excursions (haha). however, I do think that companies are beginning to see what a great tool it is to reach consumers and using that to their advantage. If someone really likes the pin, clicking on it can bring you to the site where it was origionally posted. There, people can learn about what the photo is all about. I have even seen some pins with prices on the items or long descriptions about what the product/recipe/craft/etc. actually is. To me, Pinterest is an easy way for consumers to browse hundreds of products in a short time and pick out the ones they really want to learn more about. This is something that I don't think is mastered by many (if any) companies, but it will only be a matter of time until it's the new "place to be".
I have never heard of pinterest until around a month ago. And once I heard it from one person, I was hearing it everywhere. At least from the people I know and talk to, pinterest came out of no where and is now being used by my whole family and most friends every day. I see facebook posts about it and tweets on it all of the time. And I've also recently read an article stating that anytime a person purchasing something by clicking on it through pinterest, they make money off of that. So my guess is that they are making a crazy ton of money and it seems like it's just going to keep going and going.
Derek- as your friend.. I am going to make a pinterest board about graphic design and advertising, that way you will surely be lured into making you own and checking out some great designers! Maybe it will even help with your blogging inspirations! :)
Ive never really seen Pintrest as a social media tool used by buisnesses really. I remember my first time hearing about pintrest. I was talking to a friend of my, a girl. We were just talking about random things and weddings came up. I was surprised to find out she had made wedding plans and such. I asked her to show me stuff and she simply said, "just check on my pintrest, thats where everything is". I had no idea what she meant by that. But apparently she made all her plans and picked out things she would potentially want. So this actually turned me away from pintrest. I saw it as a thing for girls to put up random stuff they would potentially want in their wedding. That was in no way appealing to me. Well, as they say, you shouldnt judge until you've experienced, I took a look around Pintrest. It is a lot different then I had expected. I really ennjoyed being able to pick out outfits and clothing. It was somthing different. It sort of reminded me a little bit of Tumblr but not eactly. I don't exactly see how to really incorporate this social media too exactly, but I see some uses. Users and find and share things they find appealing. The things they find that are appealing could be from a particular store than those stores can benefit from their item being shared and passed along the internet. I see Pintrest being much more beneficial to some companies than others, as opposed to Facebook, which I see is beneficial to almost all buisness. If somehow
I am not very familiar with Pinterest, but I have been hearing more people talk about it every day. From what I saw, it is an online pinboard that allows you to pin or tag things that you love. To me it seems like a blog and I see it dying down quickly. I do not really see the benefits of companies creating a Pinterest. since people just follow and like posted items, I think it is more effective for companies to connect to their audience through Facebook and Twitter which allows consumers to give more detailed feedback.
Pinterest presents a new an interestin addition to the social media world. I personally do not have a Pinterest account, but I have heard a lot about it and I am familiar with its function. Right now, it is hard to tell whether or not it would function well for some companies. I recently read an article that stated that Pinterest could be the fastest gorwing independent site ever, which would offer a great outlet for brands to utilize. But in this same article, it was suggested that an overwhelmingly high number of Pinterest users are women. It stated that 97 percent of all Facebook users who have liked Pinterest are female. This suggests that Pinterest has a very high female concentration. While Pinterest may be a good way for marketers to target women, it may not offer targeting for men. Time will tell whether or not men start flooding the Pinterest world, but for now, I'd say it isn't the most reliable way to connect with a diverse group of consumers.
I looooooove Pintrest!! My most frequent use of the site is hysterically laughing at the humor section. There are also creative how-to's that have proven useful to myself and my roommates for gift ideas, decorations, and even class application. I'm not so enthused about business use of Pintrest. If a company as a certain product or service they'd like to promote, they can "Pin It" and see how fast it spreads. However, it should be done in a simplistic way, as to not diminish the personal enjoyment users get from Pintrest or bog it down with commercial agendas. Professional use is iffy, but personal use is limitless, relaxing, and addicting!
My personal fav pinboard is my Giggle Board! Follow me =) http://pinterest.com/kiertzke/
I've absolutely fallen in love with interest. For me, it's played an essential role in helping me plan my wedding. This site has all kinds of creative new ideas for all types of subjects. The best part is that the pictures have links that lead you to pages where you can either look into the information further or are given the option to purchase the product. I think that business could definitely use Pinterest tp promote their businesses. They could build profiles themselves to show their preferences in products and their general style. They could also post pictures of their products to promote them and even use what people post about their products as feedback for future products. I think Pinterest would be a great asset to a company
.
Its hard to keep up with all the new social media websites that pop up every month it seems. Whether its was the rise of facebook, twitter, or tumblr, people now believe that pinterest is the new "fad" or "craze" of social media websites. A website that seems to have caught the eye of women around the globe. A place to promote recipes, homestyle tips and other tips of lifstyle suggestions, I believe that this new site will stick around and be very successful.
Its unfair to say that house-moms around the world arent as "tech-savy" as our generation, but as soon as one mother gets word of this site, it seems to have the ability to spread like a wildfire. My mother personally uses the site and gets a lot of information from it. Its easy to promote one's page as it is with a tumblr account. It can provide a local business/brand with the proper target reach and can segment easier through use of this site. I highly recommend this site, although I do not use it myself....yet.
I had heard about Pinterest before this blog post, but really didn't know too much about it. I did some research and I think that it could be used by a lot of companies in the future. The image aspect I think would be a major plus, because lots of people would much rather look at a collection of images than a bunch of writing. I found it interesting that during registration, you have to link it to your Facebook and Twitter, two already established social media platforms. After reading about it I don't think it is something I would use yet in my life. I feel like I would need to gather a better understanding before jumping into yet another social media platform.
Pinterest is really interesting to me - it is such a simple idea. For this blog post I actually create an account to really get a feel for what it is. I feel that companies could really use Pinterest to its full potential. Right now tho, I feel as if it is more for women, I feel that they would like to see what is stylish right now or what others like. I do think in the future that it will take off for both men and women. I think for men if can be usefull, one man said on there that his wife had a board of "gift ideas" and he bought her something off there - which for us guys is great makes finding gifts easy and saves us time. Just another benefit of social media.
Honestly, I love pinterest- however I have used it for PERSONAL use only. Yes, I would recommend it to a client because it would be VERY easy to create something of a portfolio of ideas and interests... Being a student in Graphic Design, when I do have clients, it actually might be a great idea to have a board inwhich I can frequently reference in order to know what kind of direction or design they enjoy.
Also, my professor for Interactive Web Design and my Senior Seminar uses it, and it is great because she has a bunch of different boards that are graphic design related; whether it deals with typography, design or even blogs- I have found them all to be very useful!
I think that Pinterest has a TON of potential, if used correctly. I think for some clients it would be very interesting. I think companies like General Mills, Dominos, Ben and Jerry's or whatever food product, could do a lot of fun things with recipes/products. I have mainly seen designers using Pinterest - when they include the price that makes Pinterest an incredibly good marketing tool. I have not seen many companies use Pinterest like they use Twitter and Facebook, but I wouldn't be surprised if they evolve into it a bit more in some time.
I had to admit that as of late, I've fallen in love with Pinterest. I think it's fun, inspiring, and refreshing. However, since it's relatively new, I don't know that I would go around recommending it to clients if they weren't educated on exactly how it works. I think it could be really effective in the hands of a famous personality (stylist, interior designer, nutritionist). These individuals could have more of a purpose on this social network — they could promote their brands and give advice without blatantly appearing as if they are pushing a specific product.
I also think that because new sites like this are becoming wildly popular, that it is going to open doors for young professionals who know how to effectively use them. And, I also think a company would be naive to totally disregard it. Ultimately, if Pintrest is approached with an appropriate amount of knowledge, strategy, and finesse, I believe it has the power to really elevate a brand.
I do have a Pinterest account, however I am new to the site and haven’t fully grasped what I want to make of it yet. However, I do see a huge potential in my future career. Many of my friends and family's pages are fun and more of a scrapbook of things they like. Although I do like this idea of a virtual scrapbook to share, I also find it mildy boring unless you have a hobby/interest you are very dedicated to.
I think there is a huge potential for brands/companies to take advantage of Pinterest. However, so far I don’t think anyone has really grasped the site and taken advantage of it yet. There is a huge opportunity for home decor/remodeling, crafts, and clothing/accessories markets. If brands/companies promote their products through Pinterest there needs to be a direct link to a landing page for purchase. Also, company websites need to have a link to their Pinterest account. People like to share their life through social media, many would want to show off the new things they just purchased, where they got it from, maybe even how much they paid for it.
I think Pinterest has an opportunity for many bloggers. it's another site to link to and a blogger could share images of their recipes, trips, DIY projects etc., whatever the blogger may blog about can be organized by boards.
I also agree with C.C. in the fact that Pinterest's search results are lacking; I hope they make improvements soon! Possibly even more advanced searches where you can search for a person, a company, a brand, a topic, maybe even search a geographic location, etc.
I will have to say I am totally new to Pinterest. Hope it is not too late for a person in media circle. Like other people saying, the website is not easy to get on at the first time. But after registering and get everything prepared, a nicely organized page shows up in front of me. I like the layout of the pictures. Honestly speaking, I am a visual person. If I don’t like the design of this website, I won’t use it anymore. Just like Timeline of Facebook, although it is not as perfect as I expected, I like the design of my page. Simply because it looks cool so I enjoying using it. I am pretty sure there are tons of people are at my side. Besides, Pinterest is a place where people share pictures. If the page doesn’t look good enough, no one would like to bother creating a new social website account. In order to get a spot in the business and rival to the competitors, Pinterest has to have something different. My opinion here is that since it is a site that people post and share what they like, and what their style is, users should be able to customize their home page so that they can show their unique personalities. The page now is still a little bit plain to me. I believe if users are able to customize their own page, the site will be more interesting and it will attract more users.
A couple of months ago I stumbled opon pinterest through a random google search. After browsing the site for at least 20 minutes lost in thought it became clear that the content being provided was actually pretty interesting. It originaly struck me as a site geared towards a the female audience because a lot of the images posted in the different site landing pages didn't really appeal to me. However, I did find a lot of awesome content that did catch my eye in the art, design, photography, music and geek section. I also really like the unique gifts section because it definitely is geared towards anyone looking to give a great gift that's unexpected. Another concept that I really liked was that I had to "apply" for a membership. Pinterest did a great job of playing the scarcity card in that respect. It took me about a week to get an invite, and by that time I had honestly lost my interest in signing up until I started taking this class. I still believe that I would have probably activated an account if there had been a better invatation response time. One thing that I don't particularly care for (even though I know how quick it would be to change the option) was that I automatically followed anyone that I was friends with on facebook. This lead to me getting pinterest email notifications in alarming amounts. Pinterest can rest assured that there isn't a day that goes by that I don't get some sort of notification to remind me of their site. Overall, I'm still using the site so hey, it can't be all that bad! This is a great photo that I found on pinterest of one of my favorite bands.
I have tried to get myself to use Pinterest, but I just can't do it. I looked the site over and haven't really seen anything about it that excites me. Everything about it just screams "girly" and I'm a manly man. I also feel like most of the good stuff on there that I wouldn't mind seeing is able to make its way onto my Facebook news feed which is kind of my one-stop-shop for a majority of the internet content that I come across. I do know that my step-sister really likes it, but when I asked her she couldn't give me an answer besides, "Look at how tasty the cake in this picture looks." That alone was reason enough to rule that Pinterest is not a social media platform that was meant for me.
I first discovered Pinterest when I was using StumbleUpon, intriguing things kept coming up (mostly food and recipes) but I eventually took notice of the website itself apart from Stumble. I immediately saw the quality of the pictures, it was clear to me that the active community on Pinterest captured and repinned pictures with a professional look. To be honest, the idea of being put on a waiting list to "request an invite" is what intrigued me to sign up. A friend had told me that sometimes it takes months, but I "got in" about a week ago and I keep receiving notifications via email that I have new followers. Hey, that's awesome that you're following me, but I don't exactly know what I'm doing on Pinterest, so don't get your hopes up.
It is apparent that Pinterst captures the hearts of more creative and artistic users, this could make it an excellent marketing tool for designers and artists. The discussion in the video gave me the idea to tell my cousin, who creates furniture, about putting his work onto this website.
Personally, I love Pinterest and see lots of opportunities in it. There are a couple of posts that get re-pinned and seen by thousands of people. Pinterest could be a huge opportunity for small entrepreneurs that are trying to be seen. A market that I seem to notice a lot on Pinterest is small cooking websites. When I think of Pinterest, I immediately think of all the recipes ideas I see. The most re-pins I see are cooking related, so cooking and food websites are definitely utilizing the popularity of Pinterest.
I never heard of Pinterest before I read this blog. However, when I opened it, I am immediately attracted by this website. There are two major reasons Pinterest is appeal to me: 1. High quality photos. The photo are well photographed. The website design is clean and classic; 2. Women-oriented content. Most of the photo are about cooking, wedding, home decor, make-up and hair style.
So first of all let me say that I am one of the MANY women that absolutely infatuated with piniterest! I actually read a pin the other day that said "Pinterest: Where women go to plsn imsginary weddings, dress children that don't exist, and decorate homes we can't afford," which was more of a huge slap in the face! lol However as much as I hate to admit it, it's true! As much as I love day dreaming and planning this imaginary life, I can say that sometimes I get caught up in it! I am not the first person who has started pinning and then realized 3 hours later that I was still pinning. However if I was a company, that is FANTASTIC NEWS!!! I get the most drawn into recipes/ pictures of yummy food- that use a certain companies product, but doesnt tell me I need it until I am already reading the recipe (at that point i;ve decided that my cake will only be perfect with the EXACT same ingredients!). Also pinterest contest are fun, and it gives you this whole "pinning with a purpose" vibe! It helps me justify spending hours online!
