Consider sharing it with your friends.

You've now attended an entire day of lectures, picked a brand and researched everything said brand does online. I suspect you've learned something new, hopefully, lots of new things.

When I first entered the field of marketing, little fascinated me more than search engine optimization. Understanding how search engines ranked pages and what you could do to increase your rankings felt like a super power.

In the comments tell me something you've learned that excites you.

As we near the end of class and I've done research on all parts of marketing that we've discussed, my answer to this question has changed a bit. I agree with you that SEO is really one of the most interesting things about marketing. It's probably the thing I knew least about before entering this class and the thing that I've learned that most about. It is really interesting to me how companies use this to their benefit and all that it can to for a business. I feel like there's actually still a lot I have to learn about search engine optimization but I think this course has helped me a lot when it comes to the basic understanding of marketing strategies.

Student

Something that I have learned thus far in the semester is how differently brands promote themselves. There is an endless amount of ways from inbound marketing, mobile devices, to the specific audience targeted that all play an impact on a brand. I never really took the time to think about all of the research and effort that goes into creating and facilitating a brand. I've also learned the importance of doing your homework on time because websites do definitely crash.

Student

The important knowledge I learned that is SEO. Before the course, I never learned it. That was hot topic in new media area. I also create my own LinkedIn account, and after that I know the LinkedIn is very useful to apply a job in future. I do the brand analysis and advertisment management for brand papa johns that I learned lots of things about new media and that will be useful in future worklife.

Student

I have learned the inbound marketing, which is a strategy that utilizes many forms of pull marketing content blogs, events, SEO, social media to help to create the brand awareness and attract new business.

Student

I have learned a lot about digital marketing that has helped me in my current communications and marketing internship. Being able to understand the inner workings of social media and digital media analytics is a major asset in my career path, as well as helping me show proof of success in marketing efforts on a resume.

Student

I hold a current position in marketing so I have learned a lot of these same things through that job prior to this class. However, I have found a lot of interesting things still, that I didn't know about and I am excited to be able to apply those things to my own marketing strategies in the workplace. I would say that developing personas is something I never really knew about or did. After coming up with facebook targeting campaigns, I found that using this strategy was extemely helpful in identifying those particular audiences that we wanted to reach.

Student

The idea of Social Media as a business tool has exploded in my own personal view. I no longer look at these as Social sights, but rather an opportunity for both myself and my brand (my employer in this case) to reach out to an audience and potential customer base that has so far, gone unnoticed in my career.

The traditional advertising methods of print or media exposure are now fast becoming the dinosaurs. Social Media platforms has truly become the "lead...follow...or get out of the way" in modern advertising and information dissemination.

Student

From perspective, I learned a lot from this course. For the former assignment I knew a lot for my brand Lady M.

Student

I have had a LinkedIn profile since high school but have never taken the time to add everything that was listed under the All-Star qualifications that was posted for our midterm assignment. Once I added a summary to my profile, I was quite surprised to learn that my profile is now viewable to 75% more people. That was really exciting to learn, and could definitely help with networking and/or a future career lead.

Student

I have learned that most brands have the same social media presence across all of their platforms. One could follow a brand on a single platform and get a pretty solid idea of what content is on their other platforms, this reduces the need to follow the brand on more than one, which is probably not what they're going for.

Student

Recently I have been learning more about social media through this class then I thought possible. I thought I had figured out almost all social medias at this point since I am such an avid user but found myself struggling with creating my LinkedIn profile. The constant updates to these medias make it a necessity to stay up to date on the new features to successfully have a profile. I now feel confident I could use my LinkedIn profile to try and land a job. This is going to be extremely helpful for me in my future job hunt.

Student

I have learned how important responsive design is for websites and accessibility needs. This is interesting to me as it appears that it is not overly utilitzed or thought about for most websites.

Student

I am having some troubles during taking this class.

As an international student, I should focus more. So i did not miss the assignment or

paticipation. I would do more and harder for this course, so I can get many things from this

class. I want to earn many things from the school. So I can be more professional.

Student

Something I have learned in the class thus far is how important a company's website layout and functionality is to the overall performance of a company. If the brand/company's website is harder to use and takes a long time to load the less the company seems to make. Whereas, a company that takes the time to constantly update their content and conform to the everchanging society and making sure everything runs swiftly is more likely to have more traffic and make more sales.

Student

Something I have discovered through this class is how important it is for a company to find its audience and direct marketing efforts toward them. In this class, we are often asked to think about who our brand's messages are seeking to convince and how, or if, they are doing it. I have found this to be challenging because you really have to think from the company's perspective. However, it has been valuable to trace the strategy and try to decode what the company had in mind when it implemented a certain campaign or simply uploaded a social media post about its product.

I have learned the power of social media in business after analyze the Whole Foods website,From LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc,  social media has become more important to a company'sbrand. Advertising is measured in booked exposures, for exmaple, page views, while social media ismeasured in direct interactions, number of friends, number of views, etc. So I learned that use social media effectively—they are leveraging the same deep understanding of the consumer.

Well with my background not much really exicted me besides the reseach i did of the brand. But basically:
  1. Louis Vuitton was hired as a personal box-maker and packer for Napoleon’s (Emperor of the French in 1852) wife.
  2. Louis Vuitton opened his first store in 1854, he began making handbags after the 1892 world’s fair
  3. All genuine Vuitton handbags are handmade. It generally takes about a 1 week to create 1 handbag.
  4. LV bags are waterproof and fireproof. Canvas is used for waterproofing and PVC is accustomed to fireproof the bags. This is one of the reasons why LV bags are so expensive.
  5. Louis Vuitton bags are half the price in France as they are in China, so lots of Chinese shoppers buy them while on vacation in France.
  6. You will never find Louis Vuitton on discount.
  7. LV Bags are timeless. If you buy a LV bag today, you will still be able to use it for another 20 years. It will never go out of fashion. And it will not get damaged.
  8. All Louis Vuitton bags and jewellery undergo vigorous tests: the bags are tested by mechanisms that drop them from about half a meter height consecutively for duration of four days, and while doing so, the bags have been packed with three and a half kilograms weight! This is not all; the test of endurance doesn’t end here. The material undergoes bombardment of ultraviolent rays to ensure resistance to fading. Also, the zippers are tugged open and shut around 5,000 times to ensure they work well while in the hands of a customer.
  9. Although most people think the company makes handbags and accessories, they also created a pen collection suited for the most extravagant taste. They also have a line of scrapbooks for those of us who want to keep the information in a classic manner.
  10. Now I will share the most painful news for most of the people specially girls. After every season, if any of LV products are not sold then, they are sent back to its factory in France and are shredded or burnt, in order to sustain an item’s value and class of brand.

I've learned how a brand like ASOS, one that is near and dear to my heart, is only so dear to me because they market themselves to be that way. I am a perfect example of their key demographic, so it makes sense that they would want me to not only buy from them, but to interact with and have an emotional connection to them. This also explains why people like my mother, my father, and my older sister, who are not their key demographic, know barely anything about ASOS and have never/will likely never purchase anything from them. It's very fascinating to me how popular this brand is and yet it is only popular within a certain demographic.

Student

Something new that excites me...the ability of a brand to reach all types of viewers.  Before Internet there was just the traditional media (TV, Radio, Newspaper, Magazines, etc.), but today everything you want to know about your brand is at your fingertips.  After researching Burberry, the brand has revolutionized how their customers purchase and discover their products.  Snapchat is the new way to uncover information and be a part of a brand/advertisement.

There is literally a filter that advertises a brand and suddenly you become a part of their campaign.  It is somewhat exciting and scary at the same time! We all would love to go to NYFW (New York Fashion Week) but we simply can't go due to lack of resources and ability to drop all our responsibilities.  Instead consumers can view Fashion Week from their Snapchat from several different viewpoints.  Backstage, Front and Center, and Pre/Post Show.  Neat is the understatement of the year.

This course leads me to many new and interesting things so far.

It gives me a chance to write for a brand. I choose Juicy Couture as my brand which is a young female brand. It allows me to find so much fun. I have viewd many campaign video because this course. I think the social media platforms is the future of advertising. It allows brand to go into people's life. It is no more some thing on TV and far away from people. I am intersted in writing for Juicy Couture and telling people that how beautiful this brand is, and how catchy the campaigns are. I love this female brands becasue they brings new attitude and new life style to females. It helps us become pretier and help us be ourselves.

Student

At first i thought this class was going to be extreammly difficult, but it turned out to be an okay class. this class is actaully fun because i am able to learn new things about the whole social media advertising world. what i have learned thhus far i didnt aspect to leaarn this in this class. this have been very instresting and im ready to learn more. i would alos recommend this class to some one who is consideringa advertising major.

Student

I am excited that so far I have learned through analyzing another brand's social media how to properly market through social media and target certain audiences to achieve a specific goal. I liked to see the key take aways as well when marketing on social media such as giving the audience something in return instead of just selling them something. It helps to actually build rapport with the customer and it allows them to form trust with the company. I also liked that I have learned the process to add hyperlinks to stories.

Student

This class was so unexpected for me, I thought it would be another boring lecture where it barely covers anything new, but I was definitely wrong. I found myself learning with every presentation and taking more notes than I needed because it was all so interesting to me. No other class has got down to what we actually need to know as well as this one. I really liked the presentation on content marketing because it gave a really good overview on what you need to know to effectively use content and reach consumers.

Student

I never thought coming into this class that i was going to learn so much more about how a brand like the Detroit Pistons uses social media. Having followed them on multiple outlets for years, i thought i knew what they were all about. Digging into the deeper idea they they put out has really changed how ive thought about sports teams and social media. from community work, to gamedays, they are are very diverse account that ive learned a lot from.Overall, i would say the bsaic thing that has excited me the most is knowing that they are more than just a sports team on social media.

Student

As for most people, social media is something I have been actively using for many years now. I am on multiple platforms and from a user standpoint, I like to say I know it pretty well. I know what attracts my attention as a millennial and what I like seeing on my feed. My company was Patagonia and I chose them because I knew they were involved in helping save the environment and I love a lot of their apparel. However, after doing these past two assignments, I have grown to love the brand even more. They create hands-on approaches to actively saving the planet. They are not about profit, but about principle. They use social media not only to promote their brand but to spread the word that we are the only ones that can help protect our environment.

Student

The brand I pick is DIESEL. I had knew not much before did the 2 researchs of DIESEL. After studying the DIESEL social media assignments, I get a basic concept of its social media strategy and its social media platforms process. I also learned the interactive of several social media platforms and how to catch the target consumer's interests, delivery the brand's inspiration as well. Those experience will benefit me for further study.

Student

I have learned that more and more companies are using social media as their main platforms for marketing and advertising. They work hard to make sure their content is cohesive throughout and reflects their brand image well. I have learned that in order for a company to thrive, they must use social media. Our society revolves around social media and people are using it every day. It is a great way to target a specifc audience and make sure your brand is being heard.

Student

Rather than just one thing that I have learned that excites me, it was a section of this week's lesson excited me--two points in particular. For many years I have wondered how to successfully build a brand on social media. Even as ourselves, everything we post is a contribution to our brands as people. So, I often thought of the two as hand-in-hand. What do people (social media famous people) and brands or companies (also successful on social media) have in common? What do they do to attract and maintain that following of people?

-Add value: This part was so obvious that it baffled me how I had never realized it before. I would do social media for a nonprofit a couple of years ago and I would often find that, though the content was funny or my friends liked it, it wasn't getting a lot of shares. This point alone explains that completely. In order for someone to share something, or relate to something, it must  add value to that person's life. It is as simple as, if we see the same posts a million times, they lose value and therefore all blend together. So, even if a handful of posts are funny or enjoyable, if they don't add value to someone's day, life, etc. then it won't be considered shareable, or likable, content. You will blend in--you won't stick out like a sore thumb--but you will still blend in. To be shareable, to be successful, there needs to be a component of uniqueness and value.

-Don't shout at your audience: This was another point that resonated with me in the great search for social media success. Apart from adding value to one's life, the content must also look the part. The content could have everything necessary to be successful, but with one misspelled word or one sloppy design element, it could lose its credibility and therefore its share factor.

Though I have learned a lot so far in this class, these two points really resonated with me as I could relate to them, and they added value to my life. (See what I did there?)

Student

After my first two weeks with Motor City Casino Hotel I learned a lot more than i thought I would. Being from Detroit I have been to Motor City Casino a lot but being in this class I got to look at it from a different perspective. Their social media and their email list fit the description in one of the required readings we read. I am more excited to learn about SEO and looking at the different marketing techniques like the ones we went over in lecture.

Student

After doing the first two assignments I've learned a lot about how social media really impacts brands. Social media platforms allow brand expression and brand outreach. Most of what I've learned is how my particular brand interacts with its customers. A lot of their social media platforms involve product visualizatons and that's how most of the consumers are reached.

Student

What I have learned so far doesn't have much, specifically, to do with the lessons but rather the brand that I am researching. Vogue is a magazine I have loved for years and have only been on the "reader" side of it. Analyzing how Vogue utilizes each of its social media platforms has informed me the ways in which they choose to reach their target audiences and the strategies they implement to ensure their content is seen by as many people as possible. As opposed to sharing the same content through each channel, Vogue carefully picks what articles they publicize through each platform.

Student

The brand I choose is Ikea, after the study of Ikea, I learned a lot of basic information about Ikea, and I never get a close research on Ikea's social media before. I learned a lot about how Ikea use social media to better communicate with their consumers, and how they use social media to provide information.

Student

After doing the first two assignments, I learned how social media platforms are as important to a brand. Additionally, I learned how to use social media to reach audiences and customers. For example, the brand that I research in the assginment is OPI, which is a famous nail polish brand in the world. This brand uses a bunch of beautiful images on the official website, Instagram and Pinterest, which appeal to women. We can see images are easier to appeal to customers than words. Also, this brand is highly rely on images to promote their droducts, I learn how to use different media platforms to appeal to people in different brands.

Student

In this class so far, I have had a chance to learn really in depth about my brand, Shinola LLC. Something I have learned about my brand that really intrigues me is the fact that Shinola is really straightforward in their social media and how they talk about their brand. It can have a really far reach to a wide range range of consumers. Also, I have learned that Shinola really takes a interesting focus of following what stores across the world are doing for their communities and what events and groups what they are working with. I've been really enjoying what I'm learning so far!

Student

I've learned how you can try and use Instagram pictures or facebook pictures to try and tell a story as a company. it really interests me because i can see myself using it with an exsisting company just to increase awareness and show people the process in which something gets done.

Student

So far I've learned mostly about how brands interact withtheir customers. Besides one on one interaction brands like the ones we're studying in this class react with their customers though social media, especially when their customer focus is very active on social media. I'm excited to study this further and see how brands interact with customers further.

Student

The most important thing I learn in this course so far is the strategies brands' using in social media.Learning these are helpful for me to analyze where should I present different Ads. It also help me in how to improve efficiency in studying marketing and Advertising.

Student

I didn't realize that choosing the right social media platforms were so influential to a company's overall popularity. I always assumed that being on as many platforms as possible was best because that increases your social activity. After doing assignments 1 and 2 I learned being on the wrong platforms for your company can actually decrease interest in your brand.

Student

So far I've learned that even well know companies like EXPRESS, still have a long way to go as far as social. I was surprised to realize how low their engagment was in comparision to their number of followers. I am wondering if this engagement correlates at all to their email marketing. What would be a good way to find out or calculate that?

Student

When I first picked my brand, Sephora, I actually didn’t know much about the specifics of the brand. Something interesting I have learned is the importance of brand and message consistency across all social media platforms. A social media presence is just as important as traditional media. If you are not consistent and genuine then people will see your brand as less than. Sephora has the same style, mantra and look across all of their sites. I think it is interesting how their being bold and being you message resonates with multiple brand users.

Student

I had never really thought about why a business should interact with people on their social media. It seemed like a cool thing for an upcoming bussiness to do, but I didn't think about how it would really benifit larger companies. Though the more I rad about these things the more obvious it seems.

Student

When I first enrolled in this course, I had no idea how much depth there was to social media marketing. So far, I have found it most surprising the way companies orient their product to fit the perimeters of various social media platforms. For instance, as I research my chosen company (Zara), I see how they present the same product different ways on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. As a consumer of the brand before this class, I was oblivious to these subliminal cues and subtle changes. I can infer that a brand's ability to manipulate their social media under the radar indicative of their customer appeal.

Student

What I learned from the brand(Disney) that I did for is that Disney's social media posts are always simple and colorful in that the brand utilizes images and videos to its advantage. Disney has created an epic reputation for excellence and continues to supplement its global presence with effective social media marketing by catering well to its audiences. The brand has a strong and complete understanding of what consumers want to see on its social media sites. The media that Disney provides always delivers, but I believe a more personalized online experience would further improve the brand's online reputation.

Student

I see that this has been posted a couple times by my classmates, but it's worth noting again just how vital a LinkedIn is. I made a LinkedIn specifically for this class about three weeks ago (I'm up to a whopping 35 connections, look out world). I honestly had no intention of making an account had it not been for a grade, but I can't get over how useful it has been in such a short amount of time. I can effiectively establish professional connections, promote myself, and receive live job alerts, all without the hassle of the aethestics of other social medias. My LinkedIn still needs some building, connections and information wise, but now with the knowledge of how critical it is, it won't be long until I have an allstar profile.

Student

The most important thing i have learned form this class thus far is how many companys do not change there marketing mased on the social media they use. Many brands use the same content and same post from media to media.

Student

One thing I've learned that excites me is: How useful LinkedIn is. It provides a common ground to create meaningful connections and boast in a professional way. I can see this being incredibly helpful in the coming years and I dont know how I was not on it before this class.

Student

Well I am currently I am a Hospitality Business major and in some of my courses we were required to view various different Hospitality establishment's websites and pick apart pros and cons for each. With now taking this Advertising class I have been intriqued by how much visual images can boost the amount of clicks an ad receives. The difference between a site that consists of hundreds of words without any visual aid, the viewer gets bored and exits the screen. This advertising class will allow me to better judge the websites of possible future employers.

-Olivia Miller

Student

I've learned that every single brand, regardless of what their product or service is, can (and should) effectively use social media to their advantage. In this day and age, social media goes beyond an easy way to find information. If done correctly, it should be interesting, engaging and conversational. A solid, effective social media presence can only encourage more sales and adds value to a brand, while lengthy or uninteresting content can actual veer potential customers elsewhere. It is also effective in increasing exposure and recognition of brands. Social media essential to a company whether it sells tires, serves food or streams music.

Student

What I've learned so far were pretty excting to me because I'm in Creative Advertising side so I don't get many chances to develop a report that about a brand. If I have to pick one thing that excite me the most so far, I would say the use of social media and the research and knowledge behind the use of it. I always consider social media as something fun and easy, I never notcie that there are so many rules and contents hidden behind that. I now have noticed that I have underestimated the power and influences of social media for a really long time.

Student

Something that I have learned this far that raises a question is that the majority of companies on Facebook spend countless dollars to boost their post. As a result, organic reach has gone down. But are there any other social media platforms that can be used solely for organic reach? Snapchat is an application that billions of people use, I would like to learn more on how Snapchat can effectively be used for uprising businesses.
