We've completed the first class and covered a wide range of potential new topics. Inbound marketing, social, search, content marketing, etc... We'll be taking a deeper dive into each of these digital marketing segments over the semester but we're curious what was the most interesting thing you learned on day one? Why did you find this interesting or relevant?

My biggest takeaway would be how greatly social media influences the roles of marketing. Out of all the things that we could use to advertise we mainly focus on social media platforms to get messages across. I assume it is a generational thing such as newspapers once was, but it begs the question .. since social media advertising is so effective will it ever die out? how can we go from this ?

My biggeat take away from the first class was how important inbound marketing is. I didn't understand the different aspects of digital marketing that make up the concept as a whole. I realized where I stand with my knowledge and what I have yet to learn. As we have progressed through the class, I have become more intrested in digital marketing. I am currently getting hubspot inbound certified as well as certified in google ads. I even downloaded Feedly and added mostly marketing content to my feed.

My biggest take away must be learning how companies nowadays use social media to build their public brand image or even push to a great increase in their sale. The most interesting part is where I learned that companies would invest in the search engine for a better position on the search page. I never noticed that before but it really worked now I think about it. People always want their answer as soon as possible, and being on top of the list really helps people to recognize them and potentially increase sales.

My takeaway from our first class session was eye-opening to listen to and see how the social media market works in so many different ways. I have always been really big into social and thought I knew a lot about it until now. By making keywords to drive traffic to your page is something that is so small but can change the layout of your business instantly.  By driving traffic to your page you need to make it simplistic for the viewer to find what they are looking for by just going to the specific page, sending them to the home page will make the stressed and cause them to give up. This is good to know since people's attention spans are limited.  By making your page efficient and effective it will allow you to have more opportunity to get you higher up on the search Engine optimization grid.

My biggest takeaway from our first class, and our subsequent lessons and assigments is that different platforms possess different strengths and capabilities when expressing a brand's messaging to consumers. Different platforms have different expectations, formats, and audiences. For example, instagram is good for expressing imagery and short videos as it relates to the brand, while Twitter is better for more verbal branded messages. A lot of my advertising coursework thus far has been theoretical, and preparation for agency jobs, But what i have been learning in this class is more hands-on and applicable to any entrepreneur, not just agency people. Combining a wealth of social media knowledge with things like SEM/SEO, while gaining experience analyzing and picking apart a brand's communications and applyng new knowledge is great experience.

I know a lot about Social Media and Marketing, but I actually learned a few things that I didn't quite know during the first day of class. For one, I had no idea that Hubspot had a certification program. I recall Hubspot being almost unusable in 2015 to most businesses for marketing, mainly because they didn't know about the service at all. I think it's beneficial that Hubspot has this so that future marketers can really know how to advertise their business while using Hubspot. More so, the knowledge from the first day of class actually reminded me of the different types of ways to advertise to your target audiences. What I didn't know what that blogging and vlogging were great ways to market a business. Honestly, I'm still not completely confident in the marketing of a business through someone else's blog or vlog, but I have seen it done. I admire those that can and actually do profit from it. I learned, after class, that I need to learn the actual process of advertising through blogging.

My biggest take away is that this class is that I understand the powerful influence of social media and the diversity of functionality. Social media plays an important role in our daily lives. Through this course, I learned that social media is not only an entertainment tool for people's daily lives, but also a powerful tool in marketing. Companies and brands can use social media to expand their reach and expand their customer base. Through weekly assignment, I can gain insight into my brand and how much influence social media has on my brand(TOPSHOP).

I'm looking forward to leaning more about search engine optimization. During my summer internship, that was a topic that the company was really looking to gain more knowledge in, and I think learning more about it will make me a more competitive candidate for future jobs.

One reason for Zara's continual surge might be social media. Traditional retailers have paled in comparison to fast fashion giants Zara, and even its competitor H&M - in part because of social media outlets, like Instagram. I'm so suprice Zara's followers are more than Adidas. It's a great brand and social media is so important for a company to propoganda products.

The most intersting thing attrct my attention is the final projet, how to setting an website. It seems really interesting. When google myself and get a profile, it is amazing. And the introduction Derek gives are really a new world for me. I dn't know how may "really" I want to use. But really look forward to the folowing class.

So many people look at social media as a negative tool, but if you use it correctly it can be a tool for positivity. I believe that if all businesses understand the social media and marketing piece, then there product will flourish if it is a good product.

A few weeks before I started my senior year here at Michigan State I made the decision to add another major, that being Advertising Management. While picking classes with my academic advisor the description of this course really caught me eye. 

 

Last semester I decided to create and launch a national distracted driving campaign here at Michigan State to raise awareness of the dangers and risk that come from distracted driving. I used a digital marketing strategy to execute the goals of my campaign. I watched my white board ideas come to life through social media and realized that I had a passion for creating valuable media advertisements that have the potential to change perspectives and have an influence my audience. I used many different social media platforms including instagram, twitter, facebook, snapchat, and youtube. I utilized a different digital strategy for each platform, but I was never able to tell which strategy worked best for each. Being an economics major, I was finding it hard to refine my campaign strategies and I felt as though this class would be more than beneficial to help me gain more knowledge in those fields. 

 

The topics in this class that we have covered thus far are all very interesting and insightful and I have been able to relate everything to my campaign strategy. The topic that I am most interested in is social media and the ways you can use it to target various market segments. After launching my campaign and creating my own digital strategy, I am looking forward to learning more in depth detail so I can refine my strategy before this upcoming April, Distracted Driving Awareness Month.

Before the class, I thought that this class was about advertising. When I finished, I found that the course contained a lot of content, such as business and marketing. I used to hear people say the importance of social media, but after finishing this lesson I learned how companies use social media software to connect with target audiences. This is a new way to give consumers a greater understanding of their own brand. This is very important for me in the advertising profession!

My biggest take away from day one class was how much people rely on technology. I know people spend a lot of time on social media and technology in today's society. And it seems like people can't live without it. However, before all these new technique came out, people also had fun and enjoyed their life. I am wondering how technology become a huge impact in our life. Even though people notice they are being tracked by the internet, people still spend most of their time on it.

My biggest take away from our first lecture was the topic of social media marketing. As someone who uses a variety of different social media platforms, it was a subject that I could easily relate to and found very interesting to learn about. With a majority of companies handling many different social media accounts, it is essential to create a strong social media presence in order to gain consumers who are unfamiliar with the product. I had completed a public relations internship with a company this previous summer, so it was cool to learn different skills and tips that will help enhance my knowledge of social media marketing.

My biggest take away from the first day of class was the lesson on search engine optimization. Before this seminar, SEO never crossed my mind as an aspect of new media marketing. I always just thought that the most relevant pages popped up first, but many sites spend time and money trying to get to the top of the search results. As a consumer, it seems such a minuscule detail, but in terms of building a brands online presence, it can really make or break them if they are not shown on the first page of search results. It is very interesting and I feel that I can take this information and apply it in my future career.

One of the biggest things that stuck with me from the first day of this class was the bit about being native and natural to the platform in which you are advertising on. So often, I see brands trying too hard to be relatable, or making the right effort in the wrong place, or targeting a certain audience on the wrong platform. I always view those ads as a waste of that company's money, knowing that their advertisments are probably not reaching the right people or connecting in the right way. For example, people are much more likely to positively respond to a Tweet that is formatted well and includes relevant and popular references, instead of one that is close to the character limit and targets older audiences. That's why being native and observing the mannerisms and trends of each social media platform is so important, yet so overlooked.

While reading the chapters this week I learned that the internet is so powerful in today's world we live in and can be a huge marketing tool in so many ways. By following the guidelines and rules within the book you can start a business up really quick.  The marketing concepts interested me a lot because there are so many different kinds of tactics to expand where you want to take your business. Using social media platforms give people better chances today to make it famous, this helps out others too by connecting with their hub of people.

My take away from the first course is how just how expansive social media is and how it is used to target various market segments through multiple social media platforms. Another topic we discussed is developing a digital strategy to determine a plan of action that will lead to a successful campaign. Once the campaign is developed it is imperative to define KPI's so that the effectiveness of the advertisements can be measured and use in planning for future campaigns that are meant to target similar demographics.

During the first week of this course, we learned what seemed to be the basics of effective marketing using social media. The most interesting topic for me during the first week was the digital marketing strategy. We learned about plans that help companies reach a certain goal. We also learned effective channels and ways to use those channels in order to meet your goals. After reading these articles this week, I really dug deep into my brand and used the article's data to see if I thought they were using these channels effectively.  I also thought it was cool how companies think and approach how to market to certain target audiences. I am excited to learn more about successful digital strategies and how to effectively reach my target audience.

-I learned a lot my first week and my biggest take away was by far the discussion on digital strategy. Not only did we go over digital strategy but the topic of social media as well. Personally I think a lot of people already know the benefits of social media but learning and understanding it in great detail is going to make me a better asset one day. I also enjoyed learning how digital strategy is often characterized by the application of new technologies to existing business activity.

Im a junior majoring in the advertising management and minor with public relations. The social media marketing is the topic that attracts me. I took lots of class about the social media courses, I got understand it already changed peoples lifestyle nowadays. We used it to connect with family and friends to build a social relationship. Also in the advertising industry, we used social platforms to communicate with consumers in order to gain feedback and create a good image. We can see lots of ads through Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to propagandize their brand. So, there is no doubt this industry is deserved to explore. And I am happy about the course mention it too.

The first day class tells me what social media is. Actually, I am not an advertisement major student. I found that social media is everywhere such as message, videos, blogs and so on. The most interesting part for me is the connections between social media and marketing.  The use of social media platforms and websites to promote a product or service. Learning social marketing strategy is helpful a company. Such as how to build engaging social media content and  how to choose your audience. I don't know what this couse is before the first day class.Now I found it is really useful for bussiness.

The first class went extremely well. I was interested in the subjects that were discussed throughout that day. I specifically thought the four rules of social media marketing were fascinating. Those rules were to provide value, be native, give then ask, and listen then respond. I believe this was a very beneficial rule set to know of because social media is constantly changing and evolving to better accomidate its users. In order to be effienct at marketing thorugh this channel, providing value is a key element. If there are too many messages being thrown at consumers, they are not likely to engage with the product. Providing a key message that is of value to the targeted audience will recieve positive engagement. I also learned the importance of developing a digital strategy. A digital strategy allows for the planned set of actions that assist in achieving a desired outcome through digital marketing channels.Without a strategy, any digital marketing platform will not meet desired expectations. Overall, the first class impressed me and was refreshing compared to other lectures I attend.

Even though I took this class is just because it is required for my major, I had high expectations for this course. I like advertising, so I hope I can get something new about brand, advertisement, and even market. And this class didn’t make me down. In the first opening class, professor shared many new topics with us, and the part of brand attracted me most. Whether it’s advertising or marketing, they are all work for building a brand image. Thus, I would like to know a lot about it. how can we learn brand well? how to build a brand by advertising and marketing strategies? how to measure the value of a brand? what will brand loyalty bring? Furthermore, I want to learn the relationship between media, market, and brand in order to find their core ideas that may help my future work.

On day one, after professor introduced and explained the syllabus and assignment, I found that what we did in the course were not only about advertisement, but also about marketing. The most interesting thing I learned on day one was the power of social medias. Social media is a very important part of advertisement. Media platforms provide lots of different ways of propagations and communications to audiences.

As an advertising major with a management and media concentration, I found search engine optimization to be the most interesting part of the first class. From previous courses, internships, and volunteer work, I’ve learned that a vast majority of companies want to become usage brands. In other words, these companies want to create a brand message that creates a need for the product. This idea and type of data is very relevant and important in these scenarios. I’m also interested in and hope to work in data analytics, so this is one of the topics that I’m excited to learn more about as the semester goes on!

The most interesting thing that I took away from day one was how ranking factors are determined through search engine optimization. I never realized how many components go into deciding where a link will show up on Google when a phrase is searched. This is something that my other advertising classes have not really touched on to the extent that it was covered in this class.

One of the most interesting things from day 1 was the case study where we looked at Chevy's campaign called "Technology and Stuff" I really admire how they used social media to take a mistake and turn it into a viral campaign. It really shows the power of social media. I also enjoyed how there were statistics for each section backing up the information presented.

Before I went to this class I was not sure what this class is about. Because it only has two classes in one semester. And the class is 5 to 6 hours. I think the most interesting thing is how a company could be inpacted by social. And its a really important thing. I took some advertising classed this year. This class will definely help me learn more about advertising. And before this class I did not even know that Yahoo was really popular. Because I thought that the Google was the most popular one.

I am a new student in advertising management because I just find out how interesting the advertising has this summer. I am very interested in doing social media marketing in Chinese app Wechat, so I find out the social marketing is the most interesting part in the first class. Before this class, I don't know why I want to manage my social account better in Wechat every time, but there are only a few people would follow me. Now, I think the reason is that I don't know the rules of social marketing. This class would really help me figure out which ways are the best to duel with my followers and let more people pay attention to me. Working on social media is my dream job, so I think the previous class is very useful for me and others people who want to get a social media's job as me.

I have always found advertising a very interesting subject, but never realized how much goes into it. The most interesting thing I learned on day one was how important social media is in advertising. Almost all of use raised our hand when we were asked in class “How many of you use some sort of social media?” Although I am on social media every day, I never realized how much it would play a role in my own major. I find this very interesting because I love social media and do not see using it as a job, but as fun. I would love to be able to use social media for my job because I love connecting with people, even if it is online.

I chose this class just because it is required in Advertising, so I hadn't had any expectation about it. But in the first opening class, it did give some surprise. There were several interesting topics during class, and most of them were things I didn't know yet. In my opinion, the topic that attracts me most is content marketing. The kind of media will change, the technology we use will change, the requirement of human-beings will change, only the content will never change to be the central of marketing and advertising. I really would like to know the process of making a content, learning knowledges about format, steps, rules and others about it. How to judge a content? What's the function of it? How can we use it correctly? Those questions come into my mind. I think it will help me a lot on my major since it can be used in nearly all fields of advertising. Moreover, after learning it, I can have a deeper understanding of the relationship between advertising and the marketing, and use it expertly.

The most interesting thing that I learned about would have to be Search Engine Optimization. Before the first class, I had only heard of it, but never new what it meant. Since, I am in the process of making my own website/blog this was somrthing that was really relevant to me. I did not know how to maximize search traffic from my name or handle to my website but now I have some idea. My website use to not even show up when I searched my name on google but now it is becoming more visible. I hope to learn more things that I will be encorporate into my site.

The first day I was so overwelmed and wasn't sure what to expect. However, the most interesting thing that I thought was extremely relevent was the topic of social media and fake expectations. Meaning, the posts our friends and peers are posting aren't reality. But we still believe it is and we feel as if we need to live up to those expectations or go beyond them. I liked all of the topics covered but, one that I didn't know much about was inbound marketing. A couple hints to help gain audience not being reached. I even used a technique of guest blogs in my first assignment. Social media isn't something new, but theres always room to learn.

The most interesting topic or takeaway for me was the discussion of digital strategy. Learning about a plan of action that helps to achieve a desired goal or multiple goals through online/digital marketing channels was very cool to me. When we discussed buyer personas and creating buyer personas, I also found that interesting because as a person who is looking to become a future media entrepreneur, I thought it was cool to understand how buyer personas create and refine a demographic of sorts for a given business through its digital strategy roll out. And also understanding how buyer personas essentially represent your ideal customer. This was a topic from class that truly resonated with me.

I wasn’t sure exactly what this class would be covering but took it because my advisor suggested it. I’m very happy she did I feel like I learned so many things about Social Media. For me this is interesting because I’m a freelance photographer so in many ways social media is how I market my work. I thought it was really interesting to see what social media platform other students use more often. I think this class will help me understand more of the social media marketing. Which is growing more and more because of our technology. I think the one thing I really enjoyed learning was about the paid advertisement on Google. Knowing that the top advertisement on Google is all paid aid will help me it the future to really pay attention to what websites are popular and which are paid to be on the top.
