Will Vine Grow Into a Thriving Social Media Property?

Take a moment to check out Vine, the new social network from Twitter. Then, take a look at what the media is saying about it. Simply put, Vine is Instagram with video. Users can record five second, looping videos and post them online. Much like Instagram, followers can like or comment on posted videos.
This new social network has already had it's share of controversy (users uploading porn? oh no!) but is still growing quickly. In my opinion, the new platform suffers from lack of purpose, ie: why should I use this? But I felt the same way about Twitter, the iPad and Facebook.
Whether you are doing digital marketing, public relations or web design it's important to stay current with evolving technologies. My question to you is two fold,
- How do you plan on staying current with technology after you graduate?
- What do you think of the vine app?
Comments & Feedback
1.) Staying in tune with social media is becoming of growing importance in the advertising world. I think it is important to stay up to date with new tools in social media and how to effectively utilize them. One of the ways I would stay in touch with new social media would be to make sure i stay up to date on the current social media sites that are available because new social media tools are exposed through these sites. Another way would be talking to friends after I graduate to see what they are up to on social media.
2.) I do not think tha the vine app is a good idea. I think it will allow the younger generations to post material that could possibly be life ruining based on what I have seen from apps like it, such as the snapchat app.
I believe technology now shows no age boundary. With facebook, it seems more of a worldly used system of communication for all ages. It is easy to be updated with mostly all aspects of the world now adays.
The vine app seems more of a just another social app now. People mainly check their facebooks for that and cellular apps, so I believe there is not much use for another network.
1. I plan on staying current with technology after I graduate by continuing to check my social networking sites on my iphone and laptop. After graduating I will still need to use my computer as an essential tool to staying updated on current events and a way of communicating to others. Phones today are still making advances to be useful for other tasks with new apps being created everyday. I plan to make a concious effort to personally take the time to stay updated on technology and continue to use my current action of staying relevant.
2. I think the vine app is quite interesting. I took a liking to snapchatting and the capability to send short clips to entertain other people's time. Since I like Twitter and Instagram, I know that I will like Vine as soon as I start using it. Seeing that you can make your own gifs without using any sort of editing program is very nice and easy. Since Instagram was a success as a picture app, I think vine will succeed as a video app.
After graduation I can see myself staying up to date with technology. I may not be an innovator or an early adopter but I definitely see myself belonging to the early majority. Technology is becoming a major part of our lives
I like the Vine app. It reminds me of snap chat but being that twitter owns it, it’ll be better than snap chat. I also think that Vine will be another form of social media that would allow fans to connect with their favorite celebrities and companies.
1) Honestly, I think that being aware is the best way to keep up wioth current technology. It changes so quickly, and thee pace is ever increasing. Being aware of what is out there and keeping your knowledge current is the best way to stay ahead of the curve. The technlogies that are current today will likely be on their way to obsolescence in just a few years. Making sure you have access to current platforms and adapting to the new changes are the most essential ways to stay current and up-to-date.
2) I'm intrigued by the idea of Vine, although I haven't explored it yet myself. I almost see it as an art form, because of its place in between a picture and complete video. But I do think it will catch on just as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter have. I didn't see any of them becoming hits, and, well...
Well I think an answer to the first question is easy.
Our generation has been blessed with this growth of social media, so I think it would be more odd if I fell out of the loop technology-wise.
I think in an industry like advertising, you pretty much always have to be current with technology if you want to be relevant at all, so I think from a career-standpoint, I'll be forced to stay current.
As far as the Vine app, I'm not quite sure what to say. Starting off by saying it needs better privacy settings is easy, other than that, I honestly feel as though it's another useless app trying to grab my attention. I had Facebook, then branched out to Twitter, then I gave in to Instagram... then Cinemagram. I'm putting my foot down!
Enough is enough.
Sorry Vine.

New technology has always fascinated me. The tech nerd in me finds it thrilling to learn about new devices and technologies as they are released. After I graduate, I plan to continue to stay current with technology by reading tech blogs, like Gizmodo and Engadet, and browsing App Store suggestions.
I think the Vine app is a creative new way to share video. In my experience, there has never been a good, easy way to share video on twitter as there is to share pictures. I think this is a step in the right direction to increase the kinds of information people can share and the ways they can share that information.
- I don’t think it will be very hard for me to stay current with technology after I graduate because, well I’m a geek. Technology is my favorite hobby and I can’t imagine for a second that I would ever let myself fall behind the curve. I always want to know about the new cool products and services that can make my life easier or more fun. I read through technology blogs, watch podcasts, and use social bookmarking sites daily, so I usually know what’s up.
- Vine seems like a cool idea, at least something that hasn’t been done before, but I have two issues with it. One, I know the iPhone is still thought of as the platform to be on and the coolest thing since sliced bread for a lot of people, but they should really have launched with an Android app as well as their iOS app. Android is rapidly becoming the largest mobile platform, with better and better hardware coming out every day. Companies really need to start devoting some attention to Android when launching a service like this, not everyone has or wants and iPhone. I would love to take this service out for a spin, but I can’t, at least not yet. The second issue is that I agree that it doesn’t really seem to have a purpose. Sure it’s a cool idea, but what practical use are you going to get out of it other than sheer entertainment?. I’m not saying that there’s anything wrong with a network that’s sole purpose is entertainment, that’s really what a lot of social networks serve as, but I can’t think of a way to pull useful information, like you could with Twitter or Facebook, out of Vine.
I don't think Vine will be the next thriving social media site. I think it has a good concept but there is already Cinegram out there as well as the option to post videos on Facebook. I am interested to see how it will do but I don't think it can compete with the other options already out there.
1. After I graduate I plan on staying current with technology in multiple ways. The easiest way to stay current, is through social media, particularly facebook, twitter and tech blogs. As we're all aware whenever something big hits Facebook and Twitter are all over it. Whenever the next must have gadget comes out, people tweet and facebook about it nearly instantaneously. As far as blogs go, tech blogs are great sources for the latest and greatest upcoming gadgets.
2. Vine seems like a pretty cool app, and I think that it will blow up pretty soon. It seems that many people are saying it has a good amount of bugs, but i'm sure that is something that will be worked out fairly quickly. I could definitely see myself using an app like this in the future.
1. Post graduation, I plan on using techblogs, AppStore rankings and word of mouth to stay current with technology. Its what I do now. I found Instagram through a friend and back when I joined facebook, my friend had to invite me. I think younger crowds tend to stay up to date with the current technology and like my grandparents say that our youth "keeps them young," I plan to use that same principle with technology.
2. I never like things at first and Vine is no exception. The porn issue was waiting to happen. How could they have missed that? I do believe that it had potential when it comes to quick marketing, but other than that, I don't see another substantial use for it.
1. I will try my best to stay updated with social media because this class has taught me that it is a very value tool to use in a professional setting. I don't know how much I will actually participate in social media because I am at a loss even when it comes to find an interesting thing to tweet about. I don't know how much my career path is going to call for the utilization of social media. I think I will most likely read about social media updates in lieu of actually using them.
2. I think vine is an interesting concept, especially for the reat-time streaming. That's something that other video sharing sites don't really offer. There is a definite chance that people will be posting videos of "unmentionables" but that's probably a big plus for some people. As far all the bugs and glitches that are being mentioned, I would assume that was to be expected of something so new. It will no doubt get better and be the hit new site to be on.
1. After college I do plan on staying with current technology. In this world today you need technology to keep up with the news and current events. I have an ipad, iphone, Mac, and iPods that I will continue to use after college because I believe it apart of life. I will continue to buy the latest technology after college and beyond into my later years.
2. The vine app is very cool but it’s no instagram. I prolly won’t use vine for the simple fact that instagram is so popular and my friends are just too dedicated to the old apps for the new vine to succeed
1. I am sure that after graduation I will be staying up to date with new technology. I have always been someone who looks forward to what is next, and what is going to stick around. That said, just because I will be keeping up with new techologies, that doesn't necessarily mean that I will be using every new one that come around on a daily basis. Some technologies come and go, the ones that make the biggest impact will stay.
2. I like tha Vine is more exclusive with videos than YouTube. This seems like a better version of Instagram, with the user having the most control of what gets seen by their audience. I also like how the videos keep looping and there is no external link you have to click to see the content. This seems like an awesome way to show little clips without the normal hassle of loading and replaying videos.
1. After graduation, I will stay current with technology because social media and technology interest me and it is something I am always researching and taking part in. Even when I was on my internship, I still kept up with what was popular at the time: Snapchat, Instagram, etc. and I was one of the first people I knew with an Ipad. Becoming "out of date" is nothing I am worried about.
2. The Vine app is nothing of interest to me or my group of friends. I have already heard about it and looked into it, however, I don't take videos or watch them so I am not within their target audience. College students barely manage to take as many pictures as we want of our nights; videos are the least of our concerns. Even when Snapchat introduced video none of my friends were excited or cared enough to use it. In my opinion, it's Twitter's sad attempt to compete with Instgram because they lost the bidding on the app.
1. After graduation I plan to stay current with technology by reading about technological updates on Twitter and the Internet, as well as through word of mouth from friends and coworkers. I don't think I've ever been up to date on the most cutting edge technological developments, so I think my awareness of new technology will stay about the same.
2. I think Vine is a cool idea with a lot of potential for creativity, but I'm not sure if interest in it will be long lasting. It has the possibility to be like Instagram or Snapchat. I think Instagram will be around for a while, but I think Snapchat is more of a fad. It's definitely something I would consider using, moreso to follow cool stuff other people are doing than to show off my own videos.
1. After I graduate I will still stay current on the new trends in Social Media, as a future advertisng proffsional I think it is essential to stay in the loop with all the new social media trends and platforms. I will stay in the loop by reading social media blogs and other simmilar publications and I will make sure to sign up for every new social media service I hear of so if it dose end up becomming commonly used I will already be involed and know what it's about and how to best use it for online marketing purposes.
2. I don't think this vine ap will become that famous, It seems to have some cool features I can see how some people might find it convient for making slidshows and other short videos but I think most people who regularly edit videos on the computer will stick with their current program. I don't see many people becoming daily users of it like other social media platforms. I don't own a Iphone so I personally cant use it.
1). Hopefully after I graduate I'll be able to find a job pertaining to Digital Marketing. With that being said, digital marketing and technology usually goes hand in hand so there is no way I can avoid it. Even if I don't do something in the digital marketing field, I'm still very into social media and you can't avoid technology there either.
2) The vine app has potential. It is still pretty new to say what use advertisers can make out of it. But if used properly, like someone said before, it could be very effective in marketing aspects.
1. After I graduate from college, I think it will be a harder for me to stay up-to-date on the changing trends in technology. However, I plan on doing my best to stay on social media sites, such as Twitter and Facebook, so I can see what all my friends are up to (which is similar to what I do now). As for being up-to-date with the newest phones, computer updates, etc. it will just have to depend on what kind of salary I am making after graduation.
2. I'm sure Vine will have it's devoted users, however, I kind of doubt I will be one of them, considering the fact that I rarely ever take videos.
1. I plan on staying current with technology after I graduate just by how I do it now. I would classify researching and watching the newest technology trends as one of my hobbies. I follow all sorts of blogs that are constantly releasing articles that keep me updated. One of my favorites is Gizmodo. I also think it's important to stay up to date with the trends because I think it's important to stay in contact with my friends and family in as many ways as I know how!
2. SO weird that this post is about the new vine app because I just discovered it this weekend and my friends and I have been using it non-stop. I think it's a great and fun idea. I don't think it gives people enough "artistic" options, so I don't know if it will ever fully catch on. BUT I know I love using it just to create a collage of videos and it's a much more interactive, engaging way to stay in touch with my friends that live far away.
1. After college, I am going to try and stay as current as possible with technology. I know I will be working with diferent types of social media so there isn't much of a way to avoid technology. At this point, you would have to crawl under a rock to not at least have some connection with technology. I'm going to stay a part of social media such as twitter, linkedin, and other sites but the one I feel like I will definitely get rid of my Facebook as soon as I graduate. Being on twitter alone gives me a bunch of neat articles about new technology and other cool information just because I follow the right people or companies. As for Facebook though, the only reason I keep it is because of group projects for classes. It is the easiest way to stay informed about the people you know and when people are meeting up to work on something. Other than that I get pretty sick of seeing new born babies and wedding pictures.
2. I think the Vine app is going to be pretty popular at first but something is going to happen to it like snapchat. Similar to snapchat, you can now send little videos and also similar to snapchat is people abusing it for innapropriate videos. We have all seen how snapchat got super popular and walking into a class seeing everyone making the ugliest face they can into their phone was something to be expected. However, the usage of snapchat has began to plummet. I used to use it all the time and for the first time I didn't send a single snapchat all day. I see the same thing happening to Vine. It will be popular at first but then begin to dwindle. It is a pretty cool app though and I hope that it does get more popular.
1. After graduating I plan on staying current with technology by continuing to use it. Making a conscious effort to use social media sites as a source of information; Twitter, Facebook, Blogs, etc. I feel as though the field I am going into will also help with that. I believe that with any job I hold it will be important to stay up to date on trends, so I will have to do my research and continue to use the Internet to find out everything I can.
2. Vine is interesting but I don’t think I like it very much. Instagram has a certain appeal to it, and Vine just doesn’t. I understand they are extremely similar but I don’t think I will ever really use Vine, nor do I think my friends would use it.
I checked out the Vine app during the first week that in received top 10 in the Apple Store for app downloads. I think the general idea of it is pretty interesting, however I agree with you when you say you feel like it slightly lacks a purpose. I think the fact that it's still relatively new and hasn't caught on yet is a reason as to why many are questioning its purpose. I'm sure there was a period of time when instagram was just starting out. There's a heavy pecking order for social media, and it takes time and attention to work its way up. I'd like to see how this app catches on, because as of now, it relies heavily on Twitter and Facebook to be seen.
In regards to staying current with technology post graduation, I'd really like to take a step back and look closely at how each of my social networks benefits me with networking and staying up to date. If there is one that doesn't really have much of a purpose, then I'd say scrap it. We're all going to get much more busy once we leave MSU (hopefully) and won't have as much free time to peruse the net and try new things. We'll most likely stick with what we know because it's what we've grown to like (ie. Facebook and Twitter). We'll move from being industry innovators / early adopters to more standard adopters since there will be other stimuli in our lives more important than new social media.
1. I certainly plan to stay current and up to date with technology after I graduate. Technology and social media is such a fun and inviting way for someone to get a glimpse of who you are. I know some people do not choose to be themselves on social media and that is up to them. In my case, I am a very diverse individual and a lot of students actually applaud my confidence on different social media platforms. It is really nice to see how our generation has become so accepting of very diverse individuals. I do plan on continuing with my blog after I graduate, and I do plan on starting a YouTube channel as well. I may as well!
2. I think Vine will be interesting to say the least. I enjoy pictures mostly, but videos are nice to watch as well. The thing about YouTube is that the entire world is your audience, but with something like Vine, only the people that you accept to follow you would be your audience. I am just taking a jab at this claim because that's how Instagram is set up. I think that Vine would be alright, but if they could merge with Instagram, I feel that it would be a true success.
1. After I graduate it will probably be harder to keep current with the ever-changing technologies, but I feel in this profession you have to keep current. My dad for example, always comes to me when he has to learn about some new technology app or device he's heard about around the office.
2. I think this new Vine app has potential, if used for the right reasons it could be very effective in marketing aspects. Businesses could put up a 5 second clip much easier and more cost efficent than a full 30 second spot. I'll look into it further and see if my friends start using it and who knows maybe I'll end up getting one too.
1. I'll try to stay current mostly by giving things a chance. If I hear of a new app or website that a friend suggests, I'll consciously check it out instead of just ignoring it. That being said, unless I end up working in a postion where I will be interacting with social media daily, I'm not sure how much I'll invest in learning new technologies unless I see potential.
2. Vine is interesting, I actually like it after first impression. Unofrtunately, I'm not sure how well it will sustain itself, seeing as many people don't tend to upload many videos on social media, and even less wish to do so publicly. However, if they make it run smoothly enough where it can become almost second nature to the user, maybe people will warm up to it. I like the idea of being able to promote a company within a quick time constraint, it could be interesting to see if any brands get it right.
- I plan on staying current with technology after I graduate by continuing to read up on new trends and available sites out there. Growing up in a time period where staying on top of social media outlets and the “next big thing” I believe is a big advantage to this generation. All of our friends and people around us are so connected that we can use them to talk about what’s new and if we too are connected. I feel we are already so use to constantly changing aspects and using new sites all of the time that I think this ‘fad’ of keeping up to date in technology will greatly help us after graduation because we will continue that thirst for what’s next, and how to use it.
- Personally, I have been saying for a while that Instagram should be able to upload videos along with pictures. Ideally if the two app’s (Instagram and Vine) merged I think it would make more sense instead of having two separate accounts, however I do see Vine gaining popularity on its own though. It is still a very new app and there are some obvious issues that it looks as though the Vine team is still working on correcting, but over all, as long as Vine keeps updating their app people will catch on quickly. We as people love sharing every detail about ourselves to our friends; what better way then making another app that makes it socially acceptable to show not only your life in snap shot moments, but live video as well.
1. I plan on staying current on technology after graduation through webinars, social media, and technology articles and publications. I think it’s incredibly important to stay up to date on the latest technology, because that is the future of the workforce and our country. Those who thrive in this area thrive in their career. It’s scary to see so many people out there in the workforce who are not literate in social media and the latest technology. They struggle even with Facebook! I suppose that means great business for speakers in professional development. This fast growing aspect is key to success, primarily in the marketing, pr, and communication industries.
2. I think the vine app could be very successful and has plenty of potential. I wasn’t interested in Instagram right away, but as I started using it more, I’ve gotten hooked. It’s become a great way to get consumers involved and has turned into a great resource for marketers. You have probably seen more and more icons for Instagram, just like Twitter when it was up and coming. I think the video aspect is actually a better idea than the still photos. It reminds me of Snapchat!
1. 1. I think after college I’ll try to stay up to date by listening to what other people, especially younger people, have to say about the newest social media sites. But to be honest it will be hard to stay current. Unless your job is specifically in social media sites for a business I think everyone will eventually fall behind on the newest things as we get older. It’s just how it works. However to stay current as long as possible will take effort and research into what is “cool”
2. 2. I think the Vine app is a neat idea but will not last. Anything that limits the length of a video will be found very restrictive by most people and they will soon grow tired with it. It is another version of Snap Chat. If twitter wanted something like this they could have just purchased Snap Chat like Facebook bought Instagram. At least that way there would already be a well known name tied to it.
1. I plan on staying up to date on technology simply by imersing myself in it. I learn the best when i do things hands on and i believe that by using new technology and talking about it with friends i can easily keep up with it.
2. I think the Vine app is going to get big. It really made me think of it as the next instagram. I can see people posting video's of them taking their first bites of delicious looking meals rather than having a picture of the meal on their plate. I can also see doing mini 5 second status updates on thier daily lives instead of typing them out.
1. After college I will stay current by continuing my current practices of reading about technology and discussing it with my friends. I am fortunate enough to have a friends circle who all really care about technology. Sometimes I view new technology platforms, like vine or snapchat, to be quite pointless when I first read about them. However, I like to make it a habit of trying the apps out before deciding a final judgement for them in my mind. Most of the time, those that I assumed to be pointless ended up being the most fun to use.
2. Personally, I am not a big fan of the vine app. It seems to be a more time consuming version of instagram. In my ideal world, the two would merge and I would have one continuous dashboard of pictures and videos mixed together based off of their recorded time, as they are now on their seperate apps. Perhaps if the users of vine ended up being able to capture better videos than those of their food for lunch, I'd be more interested.
1. After I graduate I plan to stay up to date with technoligy the same way I access it now. Most of the new social media sites I find out about are through news articles, ads, or user suggestions made by friends on the sites I already have. I guess it's easy to say that I look at sites from others personal experiences. I never make a new site unless I hear a good review or will be the first person I know of to make an account. Most of the times if I come across something new I will see if it fits in with my lifestyle meaning is it something I will be able to use.
2. I'm not a fan so far of Vine. It reminds me of Snapchat mixed with Instagram. So at the moment it doesn't seem like a realistic app that I would need or want. Especially when there are still so many bugs that are attached to the app I get nervous about downloading them.
1.) After I graduate I plan on staying current with technology just by keeping the technology I already have. I think deleting your facebook immediatly when you graduate is like a death sentence. Facebook and Twitter are how I stay current right now just because new forms of social media gain attention and are exposed on these websites. I also find it extremely important to adapt and also reach out to friends to see how they feel about new social media tools. Also living far away from family makes social media one of the easiest ways to communicate and I think that this will keep me up to date with new ways to communicate with my family.
2.) The vine app seems like a terrible idea. I think that it will just allow more x rated content to circulate through the internet. With younger generations now getting iphones it has the potential to increase the type of content they recieve and send out to become more innapropriate and have the potential to harm them. Right now with snap chat which is practically the same thing, I do not recieve some of the most appropriate stuff and that is just photos. With videos is makes it easier for this kind of content to circulate and create more and more unwaned scandals.
1. The only way to stay current with technology, I think, is by incorporating it to your ritual, schedule, daily routine— whatever you want to call it. I will try my best to integrate a way to keep up with technology into my life, whether it is practicing it in my job or signing up for email notifications on upgrades or innovating concepts. By doing this, I believe it will eventually feel like a mundane thing to do, instead of feeling like a chore or an annoying task. I’m not a huge fan of technology, but I can’t deny the role it plays in the industry I want to be a part of. Thus, I might as well get into the habit of keeping up with it now, so I can increase my chances of success in the future.
2. I like the concept of the vine app, however, I agree with Ross that its lack of purpose makes it susceptible to misuse or mistreatment. I like the idea of the videos being as short as 5 seconds, because it brings a window of opportunity for creative people. Think about it. If you only had 5 seconds to get your message across, 5 second of attention span, how many ideas would you come up with? It puts pressure on first impressions and innovation which, I notice now, could be the whole purpose of the app. It’s another platform to express yourself, so the way you use it can say a lot about you, your company, and other aspects that you are part of. I can see this app being used in the future for contests, sweep stakes, any type of event that gives people something to look forward to (what’s in it for me concept).
I always believe that everything has its own life cycle. No one lives forever and no one dies in a second. So do social networking platforms. One of the great examples I can think of is Draw Something which was once a stirring of interest. However, who still has the game in their phones right now? Vine spurs people’s creativity, which is a good thing. The most important thing is to continue doing the good things and never stop. Like Facebook who invented Graph Search recently, that is the attraction that draws people and keeps them from escaping. I believe Vine must share the same spirit in order to survive in the long run.
1. Honestly, I have a hard time keeping up and I'm in college so once I am in the real world with a real job that may not involve much technology, I don't know how I will stay current. I guess I am hoping that Twitter stays relevant and anything new gets talked about on there.
2. The Vine app to me is dumb, but I feel like I say that about most new apps because they all just seem so similar to me now and there is too many to keep up with. I did not like Twitter at first and I love it now though so maybe my opinion will change with time.
1. Since I will be going into editing and publishing, technology use is a much-needed skill to have since e-books are becoming bigger each day. Keeping up with new media and social media articles will help me follow new apps, networks, medias, etc. Who knows... maybe twitter will be dead by the time I have a career!
2. I like the Vine app. Definitely entertaining... almost reminds me of the new video part of Snapchat. However, I think Instagram will always be more successful... maybe because you can make yourself look better with its cool effects hah!
1) I plan on staying current with technology after I graduate by keeping up and expanding on my current social networks as well as adapting to the new technology trends as they become available. I usually hear about new technology through my friends and always do my research. My career may not be one that requires me to stay up to date with the current trends in social networks and technology, but I think I will always try to stay current.
2) I am not very interested in Vine. I like the ease of Twitter and Instagram for posting material and this app looks to be a little more work. I also like that when I check my Twitter and Instagram there is always new posts to view. I don’t see Vine attracting many of my friends, or users in general, so I would lose interest quickly. I just don’t see this App going very far.
- After graduation I am hoping to start my career at an ad agency. So as far as how do I plan to stay current with technology? It will be a part of my everyday life; checking twitter and facebook updates for companies that I may be working for is one way. Keeping in touch with friends and family when I decide to move out of town will force me to use the social media, also updating what I am doing which will substitue for a text or phone call from the relatives.
- The Vine app seems a little odd for me. I have had snapchat on my phone for a few months and some of the videos/pictures coming through there arnt exaclty g rated. With the capabilities of taking a video it would pose issues with x rated content or just illegal activities. Instagram could be used for the same thing but it seems like they are doing alright... only time will tell.
1.) After i graduate (if that ever happens) I plan on staying current with technology by checking out the new apps that come out, reading articles on wired.com, and reading the tech section on certain news sites like I already do now. And of course word of mouth, which may be the most powerful way to keep up! A prime example is snapchat and how it has taken over my friends like wild fire!
2.) I think vine is to much for me especially with snapchat now offering a video option (not just photos that "disappear"). People like Instagram because of the filters and they think they are artsy if they throw one up on a half-descent photo so I don't think 5 second video clips will be as popular unless of course you add some filters. But what do I know, I thought snapchat would crash and burn and I use it almost everyday now
My first thought after reading this was oh no, another form of social media. I do not have a ipad or iphone so it is very hard for me to keep up with thetechnology. I am a big fan of instagram because it is easy. You post a picture and it tells a story. "A pictures worth a thousand words." I can't comment too much on vine because I have not seen it in action but the way for social media to be affective is to be fun and simple. People will not use it if it is not easy, atleast most people. Also you must make it fun for others. Instagram twitter and facebook are fun becau people like seeing what is going on in their friends life. Is this doing that or is it just copying instagram and cinemagram?
1. To stay on top of current technology you need to just keep trying everything. I used to see no point of Twitter, and now I use it ALL the time. I also used to not want an iPad, and now I want it because it's so handy to throw in a bag. Even if you don't like new things you try, it's important to at least be familiar with them so they don't take off and leave you behind.
2. I think the Vine app is pointless. I never take videos. I also thought the Snapchat app was stupid, and eventually ended up downloading it, so we'll see.
I don't get it why it only allows 6 seconds of video. I get that most people have really short attention spans, but I don't think that 6 seconds allows much time to say anything at all. Added to that, the App doesn't allow for Tumblr yet so I think I'll pass on it for right now.
- After I graduate I believe that with the social media I currently have, and watching the news along with being on the Internet, will keep me updated. Majoring in advertising, I will be using new technology all the time at work. Through word of mouth is another way I will rely on technology updates.
- I have to admit the Vine app is very interesting. It reminds me of Snap Chat and Instagram combined. Over time it will most likely become very popular. I can see companies using it for mini commercials or anything to make their company well known. The simple apps are the ones that make it big. The only negative thing is how many times would you want to watch the same video.
1. I feel like staying current with technology after I graduate won't be too difficult. In today's workforce it is almost imperitive to stay current with all of the new technology being released to be able to keep your job. Outside of the workforce friends are always sharing the latest and greatest to their peers so I feel like the combination of the two will keep me pretty current.
2. I think the vine app is a good idea. It sounds like a more permanent version of the app snapchat which recently had an update that now includes videos. Sometimes there are moments that people want to capture that can not be summed up in just a photo. This app will be another great way for people to express themselves in another way just like Instagram did.
1. I'm pretty sure I will be staying at new technology forever, I love new technology devices and have big interest on IT industries. Or I can have more things than now, if I can make own money. Keeping interest in technology is my plan after graduate.
2. It seems cool. You can show effective clips in short time. But, I think Vine will meet serious difficulty in soon. As they provide short time videos, more users will create arousing movie clips for attracting. Of course people will like stimulated things, but it will take counterattack if Vine cannot manage it. Also, I wonder people will like a square ratio in video. It works on instagram, but Vine is video provider. People are friendly with HD ratio that we have currently 16:9.
1. Staying current with technology after I graduate and as I grow older is something that I admit will be a challenge for me. I see first hand through my parents that it will not be as easy as it seems it would be. Technology is always changing and advancing in so many ways. I hope that through continuing to use my current social media sites, reading the magazine Wired, and through word of mouth with friends and family I will be able to stay current with technology.
2. When reading the description of the new Vine app, my first thought was that it seems just like the app Snap Chat. Snap Chat is one of my favorite apps, and one of the fastest growing in popularity. Just like Snap Chat, the app Vine is starting off with a few bugs/issues, as almost every app starts off. With time and trial and error on the app's part, I'm sure that the bugs and privacy issues will be worked out. Overall, I think the Vine app is a great and entertaining way to stay connected with friends, family, and co-workers.
After I graduate, I plan on keeping up-to-date with technology the same way I have since it has all been introduced to me in middle school. Prepare and act as if every new form of technology and social media is vital in life. If I didn’t care about any of the technology, I never would have gotten a MySpace, which turned into Facebook, that led to Twitter; or that first flip phone that turned into a Blackberry that ended with an iPhone. It’s good being involved in the generation where social media and technology is so important, you literally can’t get through a day without it.
The Vine app is interesting. I’ve heard of it but had no idea what it did, so I downloaded it so I could check it out further. I don’t go through the day wishing there was a way for me to post 6 second videos. It's the new 'it' thing for people to do to connect with others. I honestly can’t really see myself using it any time soon. Then again, I never thought I would use Snapchat the way I do or Instagram a night out either. I’ll have to see if it catches my eye more in the future.
1) I plan on staying current with technology after I graduate because I pretty much have to. As an advertsing major you don't really have the choice but to stay current with technology or you will be left behind. It is an industry where the cutting edge and the bold methods are usually rewarded or met with acclaim. I will continue to monitor the internet and social media in hopes of staying up on trends and of course whenever I have to conduct any market research I will hopefully discover, master and stay on top of all new marketing and technology trends.
2) I personally think Vine is unecessary as I do with most things on the internet or in social media. It is all about being cool or the newest or bucking trends and that is the only reason sites other than facebook, twitter and instagram exist imo. It is literally just like snapchat or a .gif producer and I really can't find a use for it. Now I'm not saying I won't watch its development and popularity because like I said in #1 in the ad business you have to, but other than that I am not on the Vine bandwagon.
For first question, I am planning to keep checking a blog about social networking and Internet. Not only in English but also in Japanese, there are a lot of wonderful blogs and website that sending information about Internet everday. I should be a pioneer, but I think I cannot do that. Staying in touch with there blogs and information after I graduate is my way to staying current with technologies. Then, for second, I think this is not really a good app for everyone. I already know Youtube and vimeo as 'video posting service', and Instagram and Pinterest as 'picture posting service'. However, for many of them who shoot and create a lot of video will be a good user of Vine.
