The Start of Something New: Blogging
I've never had a blog before, so everything I've read in the Google This book is all-new to me. I love all of the different ways of customization that can be done with blogs to make it totally you. I'm excited to put all of my newly learned skills together and entertain and inspire people with my posts. Who knows, I may have found a new hobby.
Copyblogger(Google This: p.44) was something that stood out to me. It's such an awesome sight with so much information. It has way more to offer than I thought it would have and I feel it will really help me along this new journey of starting a blog. Carol Tice's (Google This: p.46) article on 50 can't fail techniques for finding great blog topics was something I enjoyed immensily. I've never heard of "Google Alerts" and it was very enjoyable learning more about them. It's an awesome idea and something I could see myself using in the future. One technique I really liked was "talk about your mistakes" it's something completely out of the ordinary and different. She mentioned that people love to hear about how others screwed up, and it'd be interesting to hear about how people have learned from their mistakes.
I remember when I was in junior high, my friends and I all had livejournals and xanga's. Blogging was the rave back then, and then once high school hit it pretty much died off. I've noticed recently how much of a comeback it's having. Blogging is being mentioned in many TV shows, and it seems as though every time I look on other social media sites, people are positing links to their new blogs. I think blogs will have a comeback. I was surprised to find that 60% businesses have a company blog, but not surprised that 65% of those businesses haven't updated their blog in the past year (Google This: p. 43).
Texts From Last Night (Google This: p. 53) took up my life at one point in time. I was obsessed and checked it every single day. My friends and I would always exchange the texts that we thought were the funniest with each other. To find out that A) it started out from a blog and B) Students from Michigan State University started it was definitely to my surprise. I really think that is so cool, and that a ordinary blog was turned into a huge website.
I'm excited to learn more of the in's and out's of blogging and advance my skills and techniques in the blogging world.
