Dear Diary...er... Blog
Dear Blog,
Today was a very hard day. I only had 5 views and 0 comments on my post on how much I love Kanye West. Must be all the haters out there (get over it Taylor Swift). Maybe I'll choose something more newsworthy to write about next time like birds dying.

When I was in high school, the idea of having an online journal (aka blog) was very seductive to me. Anyone could see my deepest and darkest thoughts while being completely anonymous. So I started a LiveJournal AND a Xanga (neither are still activated, but if you feel the need to create one sign-up!). My mom found my Xanga and freaked out. She didn't like how potential internet predators were going to read my posts, use superpowers to find out where I lived, went to school, and who my friends were and ultimately kill me. Long story short she made me put up a picture with my face completely covered and change my name. Oh, the same thing happened with my Myspace as well. I'm not going to lie, I did go a little overboard. I subscribed to as many Xanga/LJ accounts as I could, attempting to make friend with all of these people as well. Online media can lead to a slippery slope when you want attention bad enough. When my mom made me get rid of all of my accounts she did the right thing by intervening and showed me that social media (now keep in mind, this was six years ago) shouldn't be used solely for the purpose of attention...and dating.
When I was on my study abroad program, we were supposed to maintain a blog. Well I didn't, instead I attempted to keep a journal like I had when I was in the UK four years prior. Now, I think I made the wrong choice and should've blogged; less time, less hand cramping.
Long story short, I have this lovely little blog about music, my ideas, my favorite bands, and songs that I am currently obsessed with. I chose to go with Wordpress.com because my friend was using it and it seemed simple enough to use. Maybe when I get better at it I'll create my own, but as of right now, I'm going to just stick with this one. I got the idea from Pitchfork, a haven for all things music (WARNING: Pitchfork tends to be snotty and has no problem ripping into your favorite band. Read with caution). I like the idea of people reviewing things so I decided to put my two cents in and created a blog with album reviews that won't make someone cry. I mix mainstream music with indie, which is a breath of fresh air for some. I also show my love for Kanye West since everyone else seems to hate him.
- So why should you read my blog? If you're looking for new music then head on over. My goal is to post about a band every week, shouldn't be too hard right? That way I can start getting exposure to bands that I love and sharing the goodness.
- What did I learn in my blogging experience? It takes a long time. It takes me about an hour per post. I like to have videos and links in my posts and make them very informational. There's nothing worse than going onto someone's blog and leaving without learning anything. I am very meticulous about what I put up and edit the post roughly three times just to make sure it makes sense (even if it only makes sense to me).
- What is my blog about? I've mentioned previously it's about music, and that's pretty much it. Song and album reviews. Quirky opinions. Shout-outs. Yep, that's it.
So, if you're feeling bored one day, head on over to my blog and maybe you'll walk away liking a new song or band.
