What to Expect from my Wineries in Michigan Blog

As a born-and-raised Michigander, I take much pride in all that our beautiful state has to offer. For this reason, I chose “Wineries in Michigan” as my blog topic. It is an industry that relatively few other states can claim to excel in, and the wine industry fascinates me.

My plans for the blog

First and foremost, I want my blog to promote Michigan’s wineries and encourage readers to go visit them. Additionally, I want to incorporate interesting facts about the wine industry, wine trips, and the wineries themselves. I will do this through the following four categories:

  • Wineries in the Leelanau Peninsula
  • Wineries in the Old Mission Peninsula
  • Wineries in the Lake Michigan Shore region
  • Planning your winery visit

My first couple of posts will cover better-known wineries in Michigan, such as Black Star Farms and Chateau Chantal. I will then introduce smaller wineries in Michigan that many consider hidden gems. Throughout the semester, I will also include posts about planning wine trips, such as “how to organize your wine visit” and “food and wine pairings.”

Pure Michigan Wine GlassHow this blog will help me

During my time at MSU, I have taken both HB 409: Introduction to Wine and HRT 430: Exploring Wines and Vines. Both of these classes provided a solid foundation for my knowledge of wine, but they hardly touched on Michigan’s wineries. I would love to increase my proficiency in this topic, and my blog is a great way to do that. I have visited numerous wineries across Michigan and can share my current knowledge with others. Additionally, I can research the aspects of the industry that I am not familiar with and increase my own knowledge while sharing with my blog readers. I hope to one-day call myself a wine guru, and this blog is a perfect stepping-stone in achieving that goal.

How this blog will help others

Through this blog, I want to increase others’ appreciation of Michigan’s wine industry. Hopefully, it will inspire others to want to learn more about the topic and also go visit some of the featured wineries. I also hope to provide some insight into how Michigan’s wine industry came to be. Each winery I will discuss has a history, and I plan to include a bit of that in each post. There is so much more to wine than just drinking it. Back in the days of prohibition, the wine industry was at risk of being wiped out of Michigan because grape growers had so little demand that many went out of business. This is an intriguing industry, and I’m excited to share its story with my readers.

Check out the progress I've made on my blog so far!
