Facebook Campaign
I helped create and manage a facebook page for a Trustee running for re-election here at Michigan State University. The purpose of the page was to gain supporters for the November 6th election. I would make daily posts, informing followers of issues the candidate supported. I also uploaded many photos of the candidate working hard on the campaign trail. The idea is to gather up as many supporters as possible when it comes time to hit the polls. We can attract supporters by suggesting friends, and using the tagging feature.
The page is set up so that comments have to be approved before they are made public on the page. This ensured non-supporter could not post false/mudslinging comments. For example, supporters of an opposing political party may attack the page using inappropriate comments or photos. Negative comments that we deemed appropriate to respond to were made public after further investigation.
Comments may also come in the form of positive feedback. We would always do our best to respond directly to these and allow them to be made public. People sometimes comment on photos, like statuses, or comment directly on the timeline. We also linked the page to the candidate’s web page. This site was filled with pretty much every detail about the candidate, and would help educate. We encouraged people to reach out directly to the candidate if there were any questions. We provide contact information on the page. We have literature in paper form available upon request. Overall, it is very important to continuously check and update the page.
Pitch: Michigan State University is one of the TOP 100 Research Universities in the world. The importance of maintaining world-class excellence, while keeping tuition affordable & scholarship opportunities prevalent for the citizens of this state, is of Melanie Foster’s utmost concern.
