Expressing Yourself On The Web: Blogging 101

Blogging is one of my favorite things to do. What better way for a person to organize their thoughts about something they're very passionate about on a website that you scroll through! I've come across music, television, movie and celebrity gossip blogs that have grabbed my attention and convinced me to start my own. While interning with Sony Music Entertainment, i've received numerous links of new music and information regarding concerts and events that artists are a part of me. Posting on Facebook can general a lot of likes, but mixing it with my personal stuff can get a bit confusing for followers. Aside from class, I generated my own music blog on Tumblr providing information about new music and who I am currently listening too.

What Can Blogs Offer?

-Conversation

Asking questions and providing your point of view on your blog is a great way to interact with other bloggers. For example, in my music blog and blogs for 'stache media: Sony Music Entertainment, I tend to ask what many people's favorite singles are or what concerts people are excited for to attend. One of the goals to creating a blog is to have people view it, by asking questions, it makes it easier for people to interact with you. At the same time you receive comments, you yourself want to comment other people's blogs and leave your blog link to generate more conversation.

-Entertainment

Many blogs out there are made to just entertain people while they are bored. Nicole Mercado, one of the funniest people I know and founder of WorkitLA, also my cousin has motivated me to express one of my passions via blogging. While looking at her blog, there are many things to be aware of. Simple things such as titles, keywords, pictures and videos all have grabbed my attention while visiting her site. I have chosen to blog about my passion regarding music. I help people

-Communication Within A Group

David Meerman Scott explains that Steve Goldstein, CEO of Alacra, uses his blogs to communicate with his employees. This becomes helpful when your company is located in numerous different locations as well. As a 'stache marketing lifestyle rep within Sony Music Entertainment, there are about 49+ other reps across the United States. Our supervisors use blogs to help provide us with new music and links to articles and blogging is a great way to stay organized between all of the reps and receive our opinions all in the same location.
