Your Take on Blogging Thus Far

Consider sharing it with your friends.

While I blogged in high school, my business' blog is the only blog I've maintained consistently (for eight years running.) It's interesting and sometimes embarrassing to look through my archives and read some of my earlier posts. But more interesting is the birds eye view where I can see the evolution of the blog, not only how the subject matter has change but also post frequency.

In the early years I posted over ten times per month. Now days, we may only post once per month. But this is largely effected by our content strategy. As a company we've shifted towards focused deep dive content, where previously I wrote quick tips and industry commentary.

This type of evolution is natural, even predictable.

Now that you've had a chance to login to your NMDL blog, customize its appearance, pick a topic and write some content. I'd like for you to reflect on your early experience as I have reflected on mine.

Think about how you came up with your topic and what decisions you made about your blog based on it. How did it effect how you titled your blog? What categories you came up with? What theme you selected and how you altered the design? If you stick with blogging (and I hope you will) your blog will evolve much like mine. What possibilities do you see for the evolution?

The music topic I chose for my blog stemmed from my passion for independent music and music in general. When designing my blogs appearance, I made certain decisions based on my topic. This included a music notes background, and a header photo of a show at a venue. I'm sure with time as my blog posts develop I will also change my blogs appearance and the content within it. I'm assuming I will eventually add more categories to my blog as I find new topics of discussion and connect with more people.

I have attempted blogs before, but I always seem to get "lost" when it comes to content. Either I lack the confidence in my knowledge or the time to really put the effort into it that is necessary. Now that I'm forcing myself to learn how to do it by taking this class, I'm really enjoying it, but feeling a bit intimidated after looking at a couple of classmates blogs :-/ I am looking forward to learning more and posting more. I would eventually like to build a blog for my other wordpress site to feature some of my writing successes in my freelance career that is just starting and give advice and tips to new freelancers. I created a blog for personal development and growth because it is something that I enjoy and believe that it would benefit a broad audience. I chose the title The Zen Corner because I thought it speaks to what I want the blog to become - a "zen" place to relax, read and share stories. I had to narrow down categories and have changed them a few times based on the reading that we've done and creating a clear reference to the category and the posts I am wanting to write. I see this growing organically into something that I'd like to keep up with - perhaps one blog a week from me and allowing guest-bloggers to share as well so that the blog can stay active and relevant.

The topic came pretty easily.  I just blog about things I know and what I'm interested in.  I quickly made a few entries to fill out the empty space from creating my categories.  I can imagine that keeping up with a blog schedule would be tough.  Thinking about different things to write about all of the time, could be challenging.  I'm trying to focus the blog on things I do regularly.  That way, I should always have something to write about.  I do see the blog evolving as a way for me to talk about film/journalism and also to send people my current work.  The blog will be a great way to get people to see my products and possibly purchase DVDs.
