SEO: Pure Luck or Strategy?
Written By: Kara Beson
Every company Website wants to be number #1. If you are listed at the top during a search engine search you are most likely to be chosen first by a customer, who is in turn more likely to reach your checkout page. But how does a company reach #1. Marketers try numerous ways, such as changing up headlines and meta descriptions to better match searchers key words. A good marketer needs to pay attention to detail, you only get a few amount of characters to describe your Website in a way that a searcher will want to click on it. It is most important that you display relevant content to what your Website is about. Marketers can spend all of their valuable time on social media network, tweeting, creating Facebook promotional events, or posting pictures on Flickr, but the most important Internet marketing element is; how will your customers find you? This is when search engine optimization comes into play. Here are just a few easy tactics I learned in my New Media Driver’s License Social Media Training Class and Search Engine Tips & Tricks websites to attract your customers while positioning yourself at the top of the search page.
- Be Unique and Stand Out! Be Catchy with your headline and meta description, but still display relevant content pertaining to your websites description.
- Utilize all of your available character! Even though you only get a limited amount to describe your website you should try and use every possible word to advertise efficiently
- Use simple, easy to read descriptions. You don’t want to confuse or scare off your potential customers by scary wording that no one without a doctorate in English grammar and literature could understand
- PROOFREAD! Don’t underestimate the power of a correctly spelled and worded description. Would you ever purchase a big ticket item from a website that couldn’t even spell their company name right?
A marketer’s goal for search engine marketing should be to be seen. By optimizing your site you can increase your brand awareness by the amount of times
your description is shown during a search. For example, if a marketing student is searching for New Media Education they will most likely choose to visit a site that already has the keywords "New Media Education" in its headline or description. Utilize search engines as much as one can to be ahead of your competitors in search engine optimization
