Blogging: How to benefit your Business

At the start of this class I had never posted a blog in my life. I did not really understand what blogging was and I did not know that it could help business succeed. My understanding of blogs was that a blog is something a single person will post when they want to talk about a topic that had to do with their life. I thought it was an open online diary that everyone could look at and comment on.

 Blogging for Business

This past week there was a certain article in The New Media Driver’s License that caught my eye and taught me a lot. "Blogging for Business- 5 steps to success" by Amber Macarthur on page 67 explains how to blog and the benefits of blogging for businesses. A big reason that a business should start blogging is because it opens up an interactive way for customers to interact with the business. The more active you can be on the blog the better for your business. An example that is stated in this article is “if you run a self storage business write about organizational tips”. The idea of writing to help the customer better use your product or service will help build a relationship with them because it is showing that you are trying your hardest to make sure that they get as much use out of what your selling so that they do not feel as if they wasted their money.

Another way to benefit from blogging is that you get an opportunity to change a customer’s negative opinions. A blog allows customers to tell a business how they really feel about their product or service via the comment section. Knowing how to handle a negative comment by fixing the problem publicly will make your company have a positive light with the public. It will show many people not just the person who had the issue that you are willing to help your customers get exactly what they need.
