SEO Can Make Or Break Your Blog
Something I took out of my experience of optimizing my blog this week would be the importance of your title. A title can make or break optimization. Keywords in a title will help search engines understand the information and therefore will be able to match your title to someone’s search. I took this into account when I created the name of my blog. aLIVE focuses on the word live, meaning live music. Putting the ‘a’ in front of live creates the word alive which goes along with the message of the site, that live music makes us feel alive or that the blog is for those that live for live music. I also took this into account when I created my new blog post, which I titled “Arctic Monkeys to Headline T in the Park” it is simple, to the point and the keywords “T in the Park” and “Arctic Monkeys” are specific to my post and therefore if either were typed into Google my post is more likely to appear in their search. Also, the person searching for something about those keywords are sure to be interested in the announcement post. I also used tagging to help search engines understand my content, for instance the tags “Festival” “T in the Park” “music” and “concerts” all relate to my post.
One of the “Rules of the Rave” in David Meerman Scott’s book The New Rules of Marketing and PR (Pg 121,122) is that nobody cares about your products (except you), my first blog post I talked a lot about my opinion, although this is something my blog (and most) focuses on because of the ‘review’ aspect, the new blog post I took a step back from that. The purpose of the announcement was just that, an informative announcement for a specific event and if someone were to type into Google “Who is headlining T in the Park 2014” they don’t necessarily want my opinion they want to know the answer. That being said my next blog post could be something along the lines of “Why you need to experience T in the Park” and there my review of the festival and opinions would be looked for.
Something else I learned this week is the importance of guest blogging. I guest blogged on a blog about travel, even though my blog is not on that topic I catered my post to it. I wrote about the importance of music festivals in English culture. If readers enjoy my post and are further interested they can click on my link at the end of the page.
