Blogging
good day to all,
I recently started my own blog with the help of Google and their hosting site, Blogger. Songs Dirk Likes is a new blog where I can post any song, new or old, that I enjoy and want to share with the world. Creating this blog took some time. I had to decide not only what I wanted to blog about, on a host site, a layout for my site, and of course a catchy name that everyone will remember.
The easy decision was what to blog about. My life has revolved around music ever since I can remember. When I was a young boy of about 7 years old, I received my first portable tape player with headphones and didn't put it down until it was inoperable. Music has the ability to instantly change or enhance the emotions that you're feeling. There are so many types of music that it's hard for me to sit down and pick just one genre to write about because I truly am a fan of large portion of these genres. I feel that being open to multiple genres gives me a better grasp on my life. This is because a song's lyrics can have an everlasting effect on you the first time you hear them. If you're only receptive to one style of music, chances are you'll be bombarded with similar messages from many of that genre's artists. (i.e. How many rappers have you heard make songs about cars, rims, subwoofers, guns, money, or women? Yet how many country or rock n roll songs boast about their loud speaker systems, excessively decked out SUVs, or (pardon my language) bitches and hos?). I especially like when genres are mashed together to create a new sound, different from anything i've heard before.
A good amount of other music blogs are dedicated to one or two genres. There is an abundance of rap & hip-hop, dance/house, and indie blogs that don't encourage readers to explore other genres. I wanted to create a multi-genre music blog where people can explore all types of music and comment with whether or not they like a song I've posted, or even suggest another song for me.
I'd like to invite all of you to check out my blog, and please comment if you're so inclined. On that note I'd like to leave you with a little jam that really opened up my ears to what the lyrics to one of today's hit rap songs actually are.
