Opting to Optimize
How I Optimized My Blog
At first I really struggled figuring out how to optimize my blog. I wasn't sure what the best techniques were going to be, or where to find what I needed on word press. Through lots of google searches and talking with friends who have used similar strategies before I finally was able to sucessfully optimize my blog!
3 things I used were;
1) Google Analytics
At first I was really confused on where to go on WordPress to enter my google analytics. I couldn't find where to enter my access code and I began becoming really frustrated with it. But I knew it had to be done, not only for my
homework and getting a good grade but because Google Analytics is such a
powerful tool when it comes to tracking the activity of your blog. It helps you
see things such as how many people are coming to your blog and where your
visitors are coming from. This can be helpful when understanding what marketing
strategies and advertising for your blog is the most effective and generating
the most attention.
2) Basic SEO
We learned about SEO in our 'Google This' book and I knew that this was going to be an important to understand how to use on WordPress. I found useful article on WordPress SEO Tutorials. Through this tutorial of using WordPress I learned how to Optimize my Title so that is was more search friendly. This tutorial taught me how to change the snippit, permalink and title. These are important to help people find your blog when they are searching for keywords. I also learned the importance of optimizing your post URLS to make them search friendly as well.
3) Linking Back, Social Media Posts
The last main tactic I used was posting my Blog URL in multiple locations. I used my social media accounts on Facebook and Twitter, to begin genertating attention from people that are close to me such as friends and family. My thinking is that if they begin to look at my page I will slowly generate a larger audience from their help of sharing my Facebook post and retweeting my Tweets about my blog. In addition I created a Squidoo page on crafting and linked my blog on that as well!
