Two Tips Before You Start Blogging

Before I start today’s topic, I think I do not need to explain the importance of blogging in today’s world. Including myself, I have seen a lot of my friends starting blog, but did not get what they wanted to get in the beginning. While I was reading the assigned chapters of week, I learned several tips that I want to share with you.

1. Your blog name is the first impression of your blog

A few weeks ago, I read an interesting article about the first impression in job interview. It said hiring manager usually take less than 10 seconds to get some idea of who you are. In many other cases, first impression determines who you are when you see someone. 

This logic may apply in blogging too. However, I think many of blog-starter does not realize the importance of their blog name yet. As much as your blog content is important, your blog name is critical for success of your blog. Chris Garrett is a online business consultant, he gives us several tips (Cole, Pg. 51) for blog naming.

Your blog name should be readable, pronounceable, spellable, memorable, concise and unique. For my personal blog, I changed the name at least 4 times to cover all the components that Garrett talked about.

2. Speak with your own language

Salman Ahsan is a professional blogger, and he provided 10 blogging tips (Cole, Pg. 44) for many of blog-starters. All tips are great, but I would like to point out the one that I think is important. 

One of the greatest benefits of using blog is you can communicate with your readers anytime. Your blog is all about you and your ideas. Do not be afraid to communicate with your own language. As Ahsan said, “Blogging is about connecting with your audience on a personal level.” That is the main reason why your audience visits your blog, instead of visiting the corporation’s website.

Even for myself, I shared my personal experiences on my blog, because I wanted my audience to feel comfortable while they read my blog.
