The Hobbyist: Indulging in the Hobbies of Those Around Me
The Idea
The blog I created is called The Hobbyist. I got the idea when deciding what I would want to spend my free time doing this summer. When creating a list of the possible things that I could learn or do I realized I was referencing my family and friends’ hobbies. This gave me the idea to learn about all of the hobbies of those closest to me, write about them, and maybe find something that I was interested in doing long term eventually. In my first post I write about my Best Friend since Kindergarten, Katy O’Leary. She is a traveller in every sense of the word to the point where it has become quite the hobby of hers. She even created her own blog to showcase her adventures called Heads & Tales. In this post I give a little history about where she has travelled and why. To “indulge” in this hobby, like I explained that I plan to do in my introduction post, I decided to take a trip with my friends to The Sleeping Bear Dunes.
The list of people I plan to showcase on this blog in the future are as follows. First my mom, Kristie Taber, whose hobby is perfecting her golf game. Then I will write about my boyfriend, John Flynn, who loves buying and fixing up motorcycles in his free time. After that I will showcase my friend, Ryan Keisling, who loves to bake artisan bread and brew beer. One of my best friends Alison Climes who has a knack for community service and is spending her summer building backyard raised garden beds with a company called Growing Hope. Finally, my Aunt Sarah who is the couponing Queen. These were just my first few ideas to name a couple. I look forward to maintaining this blog. Just by writing the first post it really gave me deeper insight into the world of someone very close to me and I think the other posts will be just as insightful.
