The web has become the go-to place Build portfolios, relationships, and credibility.  It is utilized as a resource to Learn new facts and information.  Companies becoming part of the Online world helps their businesses grow more than they ever knew possible.  The internet has presented itself as the new definition of a place to Gather through the use of social networks.  A weblog, or blog, can bring all of these aspects together in one place that allows people to share ideas and opinions on the subject matter.  David Meerman Scott, in his book The New Rules of Marketing & PR, discusses how the utilization of blogs enhances the promotion of companies, brands, people, and ideas.  Many key points are made that state the essential reasons of the importances of managing a blog.

  • It doesn't take a rocket scientist or genius to create a blog.  All you need is a general knowledge of how to get around on a website and basic word processing skills.
  • It's not necessarily about receiving the most traffic to your blog, but trying to captivate particular readers that will keep coming back to your blog and eventually tell other people about it.
  • Promoting one's self as a blogger involves reading other blogs with the same subject matter as your own, as well as commenting on them to get your name known to specific readers.
  • Although blogs are a place for writing freely and stating opinions, blogging etiquette should still be looked at and used when commenting or creating a blog.
  • Blogs today are essential when it comes to personal or organizational promotion.

Personal and professional blogs are very different.  And when it comes personal blogs, they mainly act as a newsfeed from the creator's perspective and as an open discussion forum for readers of the blog, as well as the creator.  If one of the posts doesn't settle with a reader, they may or may not proceed with leaving a comment that may be unsettling with the creator of the blog.  Either way, blogging etiquette is very important. Opinions are very much encouraged when it comes to blogging, but it should remain constructive.
