"Erin Not Karen": My [New] Adventures in Blogging
The blog I created for this assignment is titled Erin Not Karen,
which originates from an unfortunate (and now, somewhat infamously
funny) incident in a ski lesson when I was nine years old. Erin Not Karen
is a general lifestyle blog about my areas of interest (professional
and personal) and editorializing on interesting links I find on the web.
The
aim of my blog (and why it should be read) is that I approach all my
posted material with brevity and good humor. It’s layout and content is
meant to be reader friendly, but also present snippets of entertaining
and informative content. One series, or thread, of posts were inspired
by a conversation with a friend about growing up in the mid- to
late-1990s and is tagged “90’s Problems”. These “problems” are short
statements that reference the communal experience of GenY-ers coming of
age in the age of Beanie Babies and N’sync.
While
setting up my blog (with the help of a veteren-blogging friend, John), I
learned some basic blog formatting and design principles. One thing I found
was that the background (or its relative business or lightness of color)
has a great effect on the blog’s readability. Also, I found that
rearranging your tools and gadgets is extremely important to make
navigation more intuitive and personalized to the format and feel of
your blog.
After creating my blog, I have been searching for new and unique blogs to follow and help me better understand my personal blogging style in design and content... Imitation is the best form of flattery after all. Though
in the early stages (I created it last Saturday), I am very excited to
update and experiment with this new (to me) digital media format!
