Val's Art Diary is genius!

What a fun idea! Val is an artist that is using social media to promote her art. Realizing that this is the new age of online content, she wanted to make something that would be fun and interesting. On youtube she explains her art is funny ways that keeps the viewer interested and on facebook she keeps in touch with her fans by using some of the comments they make in her videos. Her videos are so full of user-generated content, that there is a cult following to watch her videos every time. This viral marketing platform is so creative and effective. This girl has found a way to create something fun, witty, and of course a great business. As it says in the Wall Street Journal, Val "has sold every painting she has offered this way -- 49 at last count -- at prices ranging lately from $500 to $1,000 each."

This painting is probably my favorite and her description of the idea behind it is every inspirational.

Val's approach can be replicated with many things. All company's have to do is start to incorporate their followers into their strategy. Becoming more of a people person online and created those relationships. Being open to the people telling you what they think if how you gain your fan base. Using youtube as a way to communicate to the masses is a new thing and this is the new age of discovery online. Just like how Ellen found Greyson Chance on youtube and created a label just so he could be heard by others. Many artist make it this way now, I'm sure you have hear of the Bieber fever... It is the only way some artist can make it because they have no way of connecting with the industry.

It makes me want to create a youtube diary! About what? well, I don't know... maybe on my journey through the New Media Drivers License Class! Now that would be a cool way to submit your 250 word posts!
