Blog Promotion: Without It, What's the Point?

It’s not enough to just have a blog. Promotion is the key. Without promotion, it’s hard to get more people aware of the blog. Without people reading it, it’s just words, and pretty much a waste of time. I used the website Twitterfeed to link my blog to my Twitter and the Facebook Page for my blog. It’s a cool tool because it automatically updates both Twitter and Facebook whenever I create a new post to the blog. It’s a timesaver, and gets the information out to people I know on both sites.

I started following some classmate’s blogs to gain more followers. Fellow bloggers can be a valuable resource because if I comment on their posts, they’ll be more likely to view and comment mine, as well as passing the word along to their friends and people they know. I’m starting slowly, and just following people in the class who use Wordpress, but I’m planning on expanding to other blog hosting sites as well.

I also decided to get a picture on the top of the blog. It’s a picture of some of the Chicago buildings with the Big 4 Sports logos around it. Since I’m going to mostly be writing about Chicago sports, this seemed appropriate. The goal is to get it to jump out if somebody stumbles upon my blog. They’ll see something as a picture that they might be interested in, and would consider reading what I have to say about it. Using pictures in the blog posts themselves also could help create more traffic. People don’t want to see just text. Pictures are more visually appealing than text and could catch their attention a lot better than just a bunch of words.

As the pictures show, the blog with the pictures on it catches attention much better and makes me want to read what the blogger is talking about. The one with just words doesn’t catch my attention, and unless its about something I’m already interested in, I’m probably not going to take the time to read it.
