Blogging vs. Writing a Diary: It Comes Down to Strategy
I think the most valuable lessons I took from the readings this week were the "10 Key Points to Remember in an Effective Blog Writing Checklist" (2-10, Ten Key Points) and "What to Blog About" (2-13, What to Blog About). I've tried to blog millions of times. You can even view my crude, early attempts on my website. I never had a theme and my posts always strayed into "Diary" territory. After reading these two posts, I finally know why. I never had a consistent strategy and never planned ahead for posts like "What to Blog About" suggests. Even though my content might have been interesting, it was all over the place and difficult to follow. Who wants to read a blog for entertainment when they have to work to enjoy it? I wouldn't want to.
In addition, I commited the number one crime on "10 Key Points" checklist. My headlines used to always be ambiguous and uninteresting to anyone other than me. I also put my text into gigantic blocks and droned on forever. As you can see from my new blog, I'm getting better in these two areas:
I'm going to try my best to keep these points in mind in the future, and I am excited to become a better blogger!
