Building Out a Blog. Best Practices for Garnering Attention

Yes, I've built a blog. That's all fine and dandy, but what's the point if it's never seen?! If I've put the time in to write, it's time to put the time in to get some viewers. That's exactly what I've done this week.

Get Your Work Talked About. Make it Easy to Repost.

The Ingenex Digital Marketing Blog suggests pulling your RSS Feed into Twitter and Facebook. I've done this AND gone one step further. Going in and editing the code on my blog, I made it easy for users to share on their own Twitter and Facebook profiles once they're done reading.

Easy sharing

It also makes it simple for me to track how many people are interested enough in my word to repost! In addition, I've hooked my blog up to Feedburner and added a quick subscribe button to the top. All of these changes will make it easy for people to consistently see my work.

Social Media = Free Publicity

Social Media is essentially free publicity for your blog, but to get it noticed, you have to do something completely different. That's why, in addition to linking my blog to my personal twitter account and facebook page, I decided to make a completely new Twitter account for my blog. Under the name @HeatherInAdLand, I'll post content relevant to my blog as well as constant updates to my blog. I've also been searching out other advertising blogs and will repost other relevant blogs in order to keep up a good mix of content.

Then, I decided to do something completely different: I made a Pinterest page for my blog. I've never seen this done for a blog before, and given the popularity of pinterest, I figured this would be a fun, inventive way to link content back and forth. This week, I've planned two fun posts about "Style in the Agency" and "Design for Your Desk", and I've been preparing two boards that people can get involved in and post to with their own ideas. You can check them out here. Make sure to check back to my blog later this week to see how the Pinterest integration goes!
