Blogging for Beginners: What I've Learned
When I first heard that we had to start a blog, my initial reaction was a little panicked. I had no idea what I could write about. How could I blog about something that people would actually want to read? After doing some research, I came across this article for beginner bloggers. This article by Darren Rowse provided me with help on how to create my blog.
After reading articles and using the New Media Driver’s License Resources, I decided to write about something that I was familiar with, could make regular posts about, and would be interesting. I was born and raised in Michigan, and have recently started following the Pure Michigan campaign. As a public relations major, I took interest in it because I think it’s a great way to promote all of the great things that Michigan has to offer. Piggybacking off of that idea, I decided to make my blog about things that I know and love about Michigan.
One of the more helpful things that I learned through my research was how to promote my blog using social media. Twitter, Facebook, and even LinkedIn can help in promoting your blog. I think Twitter would be most effective in promoting your blog, because it would be easiest to find people with similar blogs or interest and get them to follow or even guest blog for you.
In addition to the New Media Driver’s License Resources and my online research, I found David Meerman Scott’s book to be extremely helpful. I’ve read it before for another class, but revisiting it and taking a closer look proved to be of assistance when I was trying to come up with ideas for a blog.
Overall, I’m still a novice blogger (as I’m sure you’ll see). However, I hope that as the class goes on, I’ll continue to learn and gain more experience in the blogging world.
