Blog Promotion by a Novice Blogger

Being relatively new to the blogging world, I was a little nervous to promote my blog. I wasn’t sure how to go about it, and be effective so that people would actually read and follow my blog. To start out, I looked at the New Media Resources. The article by Darren Rowse was helpful in coming up with ideas on how to promote my blog. My initial idea was to go with what I know, and start with Facebook and Twitter. I linked my blog to my Facebook and Twitter in an effort to get the word out there that I even had a blog. Hopefully, this will start to create some inbound links to my blog, something that I had never heard of until this assignment.

My next thought was to create an account with Feedburner. I hadn’t heard of it before this assignment, so I did some research on the website. Because my blog is new and I haven’t acquired a lot of followers (yet), there’s not much there. Hopefully as I continue to post on and promote my blog, Feedburner will become more useful.

Another thing I did to promote my blog was simply to begin following other related blogs. The most obvious choice was to follow the actual Pure Michigan Blog, and read and comment on their posts. They have an option to be a guest blogger, so I’ve been considering submitting a future post for consideration. Most of the blogs I followed aside from Pure Michigan were about topics that are similar to that of my blog.

As far as guest blogging, I’ve created a post encouraging blog topics or ideas from any readers. At this point, I haven’t reached out to a specific blogger asking him or her to guest blog for me, because I didn’t think it was realistic to get someone to guest blog when my blog is so new. Hopefully as the class goes on, I can build my blog out more and eventually get a blogger to create a post for my blog. Guest blogging on WordPress
