Tips on Improving My Newly Created Blog

Tips & Tricks for a Good Blog

I found this week’s reading very helpful by suggesting ways to improve my blog. One of the tips that I utilized this week had to do with internal links. In my first blog post, I didn’t use any internal links, so this helped spark the idea I should put them in my post. On Jacob Cass’s website, there’s an article found here that makes a point to explain your internal links and don’t just throw them in the middle of your writing. I explained what my links were so people had the opportunity to know what they were clicking on.

Another tip that I took into account while improving my blog this week was to keep it simple. This idea came from slideshare presentation which said to not overcrowd your page and clearly present information. Before, I had a multi colored background with a header that was elephants. This header did not relate to the them of my blog in any way, so I changed it to a sports themed photo and added a background that was more simplistic.

In another Jacob Cass article, he said format your text because people don’t want to read huge chunks of text. So for this week’s blog post, I tried to make each paragraph smaller and easier to read.

Additions & Promoting my Blog

This week I also added some widgets to my page and added icons that would allow people who are reading my blog to share my writing easily. One way I promoted my blog was by tweeting my post (about Gatorade) to Gatorade’s twitter page.
