Have you used Meerkat?
If you have an iPhone or iPad, check it out now. This new livestreaming video app has been one of the hottest new apps since it was released earlier this year. What the app lets you do is post live streaming video from your phone in a very quick and easy way, and to watch livestreams from your friends.
Meerkat ties in with Twitter, so whenever you start broadcasting something, a link automatically goes out to your Twitter followers notifying them of the live broadcast.
Since the app rolled out at SXSW, it's become one of the most talked-about apps online. I tried shooting video of my English bulldog Dingell with it, and wound up mentioned in a VentureBeat story on watching strangers on Meerkat. Admittedly, shooting live video of a dog is kind of lame and not the coolest potential use for this service.
So: what do you think would be a cool way for online marketers to use Meerkat? Tell me what you think in the comments below. What do you think this could be useful for? Can't wait to see your creative ideas!

In my opinion, I have watched a live stream of english bulldog puppies playing in their bed and found is highly amusing. However, online marketers may be able to use this tool more efficiently. For example, they could maybe use this for promotions, sweepstakes, drawings, or competitions. They could live stream people using their product so that people could see live results of what they are marketing. This app could give advertisers a more in the future way of presenting their products to possible clients.
I have never heard about the Meerkat before. But it might become the other ways for the advertiser to present their product in the other way rather than the original existed one. It reminds me the snapchat by sharing video with friends and to make a daily story on it. However, I am not using Twitter a lot since I only view people's posts instead of posting mine. THerefore, the Meerkat does not really attracts me and it is not a necessity for me. On the other way, the marketer can advertise their product or company by this app since it is easy to use, easy to film and easy to find. This might arise people's curiosity of their product if they are intersted in your video.
Meerkat is an interesting social network. It seems to be a blend of snapchat, and then is also integrated into twitter. This was cool to me hearing about it at first because it shows that possibilities for new social networks and content sharing apps are possible! Too often I think people get bored of current social networking apps, hence the constant need for updates. But I think it is cool new see new ideas. Although I think the app is probably fun to use and useful in many ways, I do not see myself using it. If I want to take a live video, I would use snapchat and share it on there. Im not sure how interesting my life is for my twitter followers to be seeing live video from my every day life. Maybe this app will be used by people who have followers on snapchat that are the same as their twitter. For me, I use snapchat to communicate with close friends and family. Some people follow celebrities on snapchat and maybe have a ton of people they follow and that follow them. Then they would be the primary users of meerkat in my opinion because they are not shy about sharing their life in a very public way.
Meerkat seems a lot like Snapchat in my opinion, but is a good idea! So many people and company's can benefit from livestreaming. Snapchat already sort of does this. They have livestreaming from the Grammy's, Oscars, St. Patty's Day, etc. that everyone can see that has a snapchat. I love that aspect of Snapchat because it feels like I am actually there. Companies could use Meerkat in a variety of ways. Announcing a new product, doing something that has never been done before, or just trying to entertain people are different ways that companies could use Meerkat. I definitely think company's and brands should take advantage of this app because if there is already so much hype about it, it is probably going to get even bigger later this year. It is all about connecting to your target audience and social media is becoming a bigger and bigger aspect of connecting to the target audience.
I had never heard about Meerkat too.
However, if Meerkat works with the live streaming video, I would like to use it in advertising way of it. just like stream the live video about the process of the work. If I have a restaurant, I would like to show people to watch the process of making food from the start to the end. People will get trust about my food and they will buy more of my foods. Also, in Korea there is kind of a similar app named "Afreeca" It is just like the Meerkat. People can stream everything whenever they want. Audiences can choose the what to see. Audiences also can donate to the streamer when the streamers do what the audiences ask something to do. This is kind a huge business in Korea. This can be strong way to communicate with lots of people in short time
I actually found myself consuming content via Meerkat the other day and had no idea what it was, this is really interesting! For me, the companies who have quickly adapted to social media and streaming services. For example, I love the way that Wendy's uses Vine and ties it in with their Twitter account. As a fan of Wendy's it keeps me entertained and always get's me excited for lunch.
I see Meerkat as an opportunity for the most progressive brands to get a leg-up on the new media front for the rest of 2015. I think Meerkat's easy use and convenient tie-in with Twitter will make it more successful than similar tools such as Tout.
So prior to this post, I had never heard about Meerkat.
I don't think I would ever use it for social media purposes, but I do think it could beneficial in certain professions. For example, in a medical emergency, an EMT could live stream with a physician if the situation required immediate medical attention beyond what they were trained to do. In general, though, it seems like it would just become a channel for people to live stream random stuff (i.e., the dog).
I have never heard of Meerkat, but it seems pretty cool. I am currently downloading it and can't wait to try it out. From your description is seems very similar to Snapchat, but a little more advanced. I see this being used for both good and bad things. On the positive side it can be used to stream things not everyone has access to seeing, like it was used at SXSW. For example, I am going to a concert this summer that sold out pretty fast, I could use this app to show my friends the concert! In terms of negative use I think people could also showcase things that do not need to be seen or could encourage people to simply partake in inappropriate or bad behavior. There are always those people that mess it up for others, but I hope those numbers are limited and the positive users will outweigh the negative to allow this app to flourish.
Prior to reading this post I have never used nor have I heard of Meerkat. It sounds similar to the app snapchat. I don’t really see Meerkat taking off and becoming as big as snapchat. Snapchat is similar because it offers live stream from different events all around the world. The only advantage Meerkat seems to have is that it ties with twitter, giving it a greater reach. The app could be used for promotional events, news reports, or even celebrity videos. I personally don’t think I would use the Meerkat app. Looking more into the app I have noticed that their colors. Logo and makeup are very similar to snapchat. I feel that of the company were to expand; they would need to identify themselves as a brand in a more distinctive way.
What an interesting app! I personally have never heard about it, until now. It somewhat reminds me of what Snapchat and Vine do for users. Although, it's more of a livestream video broadcast, rather than a platform used to capture short videos of something. Looking at this app, I would suggest that online marketers create livestream video events for newly released/upcoming products and/or services. For example, if apple is looking to release the iPhone 7, they should livestream the event at select Apple stores. This displays that people have interest in the newly released product, in addition to influencing those who don't have the most recent version of the iPhone to go out and get it. Another way that marketers can capture the attention of their target audience, is to stream ads (somehow get permission from Meerkat) before any livestream video plays.
I read an interesting article that credits apps like Snapchat making these sort of services viable and popular. Snapchat got us used to posting our face and sharing our days with friends. Snapchat gaves us the freedom to "be boring", to feel free in posting pictures and videos of ourselves and whatever else happens in our day. People are more and more willing to share their faces online, with friends and with strangers.
This is an opportunity for online markets because people are making themselves available to be reached. By posting relevant content to users, people will want to watch. However, one hinderance for online markets using Meerkat would be Twitter's video streaming service, Periscope. Twitter has started to cut down on what Meerkat users can do through Twitter in an attempt to get more people to use Periscope.
I actually have no idea what is Meerkat about. But I think it it is a fun apps to share with friends. Compare to Snapchat, Meerkat is major in live streaming video, I personally will not choosing this because I don't think people will take time to watch me video. The reason I prefer Snapchat is because it save time and I can choose the people to watch, not like Meerchat, once I post something, all the followers on Twitter will know it.
I am not familiar with Meerkat and I have no idea how it works prior to reading this article. I prefer using Snapchat not because it is easy to use, but it is short. It is kind of interesting sharing someone something short but fun. I don't have time to do the live streaming video because I think people wil also don't have time to watch my video. Also, Meerkat is tie up with Twitter which I don't like because sometime I just want to share something specifically to someone not to the entier Internet.
I had never heard of the Meerkat app prior to reading this post. After going and looking into it a little more I think it's an interesting idea. I think celebrities would get a big kick out of this. People are so interested in celebrities instagrams and what they're doing in real time. This app would allow people to see what they're doing while they're doing it and I think people would be really into that.
For online marketers I think this would work just like commercials. I think there's better sites to use for online marketing though. Since this app online allows live streaming you wouldn't get your message out to as many people because if they weren't watching right then and there then you're not going to reach them. It would be better for online marketers to advertise on sites where their advertisments will always be there and people can view it on their own time.
I have never heard of the Meerat application, but I think it's premise is very interesting. I enjoy using snapchat, which essentially sounds like the same thing, minus the live component. I don't think I would really use a live stream application. Usually I watch snap stories when I am bored, and I don't have time throughout the day to watch live streaming video. Also, I am usually with my friends, and we are often at the same events, so it wouldn't be practical for me to watch videos live. I think that the app could be put to good use, however, by festivals and concert venues, for people who are unable to make it to events. Sports teams could also benefit from the application.
I have never used Meerkat, nor am I familiar with it. I have been a big fan of Snapchat and using Snapchat stories for up to date videos. I also do not post on Twitter often, as I just read what other people have to say more often. So with Meerkat being linked to Twitter, I am not sure of how much I would actually use it. The livestreaming aspect of it is not very necessary to me either because I would never hold up my phone to record or watch something for a long time, which is why I think Snapchat stories are nice. The only benefit I see from Meerkat would be to make it an HD version on computers to watch sports games, concerts, and other longer times events.
I am not familiar with Meerkat App at all either used it before. I checked it our, I found it's an app to help user upload the video immediately. Thus, people with iPhone or iPad can publish their livestearming video whenever they want.
For online marketers, they can upload their video with their product or make a series video to tell a story about the product. They can tell the background information of the product and how to use the product through the series of videos. Also, they can invite their consumers to upload video about their product and rank the video to win the prize. Having the interactions with costumers will be a helpful method for online marketing.
Meerkat isn’t an app that I am familiar with but it sounds very similar to the Capture app for YouTube. Like the Meerkat app the Capture app allows for easy video loading and editing. You can add things like certain music and edit the length of the video, while doing it all from your iPhone or iPad. The one thing that I like about Meerkat is that it immediately loads up to Twitter.
Having that automatic link go out to your Twitter with your live broadcast saves the trouble of doing it manually. With Capture, it will automatically load to YouTube, but may not receive the exposure it will on Twitter, depending on your follower numbers. Also, the Capture app doesn’t load a live stream broadcast but instead a video that has been recorded.
I like this live stream capability a lot. I could see a few ways the Meerkat app being used. One way could be from business like Playmakers. Playmakers’ in Okemos has a huge outdoor and indoor sale every year. This type of app could be used to show people who aren’t there what is happening. People could see through the broadcast the amount of people at the sale or even some of the gear they may not see on the Playmaker site.
Meerkat could also be used for local restaurants and bars. As a disc jockey in East Lansing, people often want to know if the bars or restaurant they want to attend is busy, what type of music is playing, and what the culture is like. The Meerkat app may help people coming to a certain bar because they would be able to see a place of their interest prior to going. This app seems like it can be used in many benefiting ways.
I haven't heard of Meerkat yet, but it sounds like an interesting app. What came to mind when I learned that it was a livestreaming app was news. The app could be a new form of filming news. People with an iPhone or iPad could film local events, which could be broadcast on the news. Reporters could link it to their Twitters and make it a new type of online portfolio.
For online marketers, Meerkat could be used to showcase live events on social media. Especially during music festival season, which is happening right now, people could film some of the stages and share it for people who couldn't go. It's a new platform for sharing videos, and I think it's very smart that it transfers to Twitter; many people already a Twitter, so it's a great way to get the word out about Meerkat.
This is the first I'm hearing of Meerkat, but I can see many potential applications for online marketers. The first thing that came to mind was using it to promote ongoing events. It's one thing to post a picture of an event with the caption, "We're having a great time, come on out!" but it's quite another to livestream footage from the event itself to SHOW people what they're missing out on. I see a lot of really cool applications in the entertainment industry as well. Musicians could use it to livestream their songwriting process as an announcement of a new single. Movie companies could livestream shots or scenes being filmed that day. Animation studios could post livestream videos of storyboard meetings or of characters being drawn and animated. My company for the final project is an entertainment company, so I might have to check this out.
I have not heard of Meerkat before, however, it sounds like an outlandish app that will gain a following by few users, but I do not see it taking off anytime soon. The concept is kind of cool- but it is a little reminiscent of Snapchat videos. Snapchat now offers users to view live feeds of events around the world like Ultra music festival, NCAA march madness, and 'TGIF' feeds of people around the world celebrating the weekend. enjoy viewing snapchat feeds because they are up to 10 seconds long, and I can see my friends' feeds and also feeds of events happening around the world. Meerkat sounds like just an app to view snapchat stories and I personally would not download because I already have limited storage left on my phone and i am always finding myself deleting rarely used apps to make room for new ones.
It would be a great idea for companies to record some behind the scenes work of what corporate does on a day to day basis. It really makes customers feel connected. I, for example, just started to follow Lilly Pulitzer on Snapchat, and watching their video has made me feel more connected with the brand and even makes me want to buy their product. I see how much fun their team is having and peeking at what their lavish lifestyle is like. I look forward to them posting videos and pictures to their story because I can get a behind the scenes look of what the head honcho's of the company are doing every day.
I can see how this app would be something really popular among a niche market, maybe those who are more tech-savvy because its somewhat a new concept in social media. For me however, I cannot see myself using it and religously following the feeds of many.
I heard of Meerkat a few weeks ago and thought it was an interesting idea. I don't totally see the potential for individual use since you could just FaceTime, Skype, or Google Hangout privately, but I could definitely see the draw for companies, events, movements, and possibly celebrities. This app can definitely garner attention, views, and participation from people to rally around something live. We've seen this with YouTube's livestream events and concerts over the years. I could see companies and events promoting themselves and their products through live streaming an event and encouraging others at the event to do the same. This would increase word-of-mouth and could be easily shared between interested parties. I could also see the potential for news networks or television shows in conducting live interviews (though that could be potentially problematic with mess-ups, etc). This could definitely be a medium that cuts out television all together for news coverage if news networks took advantage of this app.
I'm not sure that this would be useful for every company, but I think there are certain industries that could definitely take advantage of the Meerkat app in order to do some online marketing. Two types of companies in particular I think could really use Meerkat for online marketing would be alcoholic beverages and outdoor gear. Alcholic beverage companies often like to use the bandwagon approach and show a bunch of people drinking their product and having a graet time. They could use Meerkat to take video of people drinking their product and having fun and they could choose to livestream it early in the night when people are still choosing what alchol they want to drink for the night. I think an outdoor gear company could use Meerkat to live stream people doing activities outside, like hiking or biking, using their products. This could help to promote the brand and insipre others to go get some gear for an acitivity they thought looked fun.
This app seems like a pretty cool app. I don't know if I'm ready to commit to another social media app at the moment, however. I may be willing to download it if more of my friends get on it or if it really becomes a staple in the social media world like twitter and facebook though. We'll just have to see what happens! There have been a lot of social media apps I've been on that just never took off and essentially became a waste of time.
For marketers, however; this is a great chance to showcase their product. They could easily show how a product works and get people interested in it. Or they can show others using their product to show what a hit it is. I'd like to see live action commercials though, I think that would be pretty cool/funny if they're creative enough with them. Maybe even show some behind the scenes for commercials. Hint dropping for new products would be interesting. For example, if nike is creating a new Lebron James shoe , they could put him on the video and say that there's a surprise in store. Marketers could really have a feild day with this app for sure.
I don't have Meerkat but I can definitely see myself downloading it once I land a job. It reminds me a lot of Snapchat since you can share live video with friends but your reach would be much larger since it's involved with Twitter. Meerkat could be great when hosting a promotional event. You could send out preperation and set up of the event to create buzz and once the event is starting you could send out another video, inviting people to join. Even if people don't physically come to your event, they could share it or like it on Twitter which would expand exposure. This app could be very beneficial for companies.
I think this could be a great draw for advertisters directly in video much like the successful snapchat work that is currently rolling out. I think that it would be a GREAT tool for concert festivals like the recently announced Lollapalooza. By teaming up with Lolla, they could give the venue a great platform to link with their sponsors and get their message out to both people AT the show live broadcasting, as well as people viewing those live broadcasts elsewhere. This is sorta being done by Snapchat with their TGIF videos - but there is monetary capitalization to be made off of these types of live events throughout the world. Whether it be something like the DNC or RNC conventions or Lolla. There seems to be a massive opening for advertisers to fill in large scale events that allow them to branch past the attendees and reach the onlookers at home
I think a cool way for online marketers to use Meerkat would be to be using their products while recording it on Meerkat. Like someone riding a longboard and the company that made the longboard sharing it to Meerkat. Then the company could have a contest for people to submit videos and the winner can be shared to Meerkat. Meerkat seems like a cool way to help companies promote their product without annoying the public, since people would be using the products to do cool things. I'll be interested to see if companies adopt this technique and if their sales actually do go up because of it!
I have never heard of or used Meerkat, but it sounds like a pretty interesting app that could have a lot of potential benefits. It almost sounds similar to Snapchat and Vine in some aspects, but both of those apps only allow you to record a video for a certain amount of time. I love learning about new and interesting uses of social networking and Meerkat is definitely something I might consider. Marketers could use Meerkat in a variety of ways for promotional purposes. They could post video commercials and different kinds of advertising messages to promote their product, service, or idea. It also helps that Meerkat is tied into twitter because marketers could also post their content in a tweet, reaching more of their audience.
