I love this class it's incredibly interesting. For it to be virally successful though I believe you'd need to just push the word of mouth and maybe try linking to it on linkedin and facebook. The best buzz for this class would be from recruiters or people who are going to be hiring students who are taking this class. So you'd want to make sure that they learn about it.
Before I was aware that the New Media Driver's License course was being covered on FOX 47, I actually saw a preview clip of it on the news. It was exciting to see a course that I am apart of getting coverage. When I announced that I was taking this class, my roommates had all heard of the class before and for a newer course, it's amazing that the word got out so quickly. Something else I found interesting is that in my most recent interview, I was asked about my coursework and when I mentioned this one, my interviewer was very intrigued and wanted to know so much more. Since he was out of state, he had never heard anything like it. He was impressed and I think he really liked the idea. That, for me, just solidified my satisfaction with the course. I'm not only benefitting from it as an individual, but on a more diverse level. I think it's great that Fox 47 decided to cover it.
I also saw the preview for this story on Thursday morning and watched it that night. Someone in human resources where I work had also heard something about the class and the certification on the radio or TV...he couldn't remember...but he was telling my boss that they need someone to go through the social media training the class offered...I jumped in and told her that it was the class I was currently taking and had told her about before...she was impressed and it made me again see the value in this class. I also took the opportunity to live tweet the event...so it was a learning experience in more than one way! This was a nice opportunity for the professors to raise awareness about what we're doing at MSU and Comm Arts. It was a very cool media mention and an opportunity to build the NMDL brand name.
As many of the other students in this class, I am very excited to be a part of a course that is being recognized by traditional media outlets. While this course teaches us that the internet is taking over more traditional media sources, traditional media still has its place and it is much more difficult for companies to be recognized and covered by outlets such as TV stations. Therefore, it is an honor to be mentioned on Fox's nightly news program. I missed the coverage, but that would be great if you could post some links that we could add to our own personal sites. I am learning a lot about social media through taking this course and feel very privileged to be a part of it. I am excited that these skills are being recognized as something of importance by companies today and I hope to make great use of these new skills sometime soon in my future job.
How great is that! I didn't get to watch it but the preview looks so good. Hopefully this will help explain to people just how important new media is becoming.
I unfortunately didn't get the chance to see the coverage on our class but I think it is great that we got coverage. New Media is something that everyone needs to be educated on and it is great that we are recognized. Before you know it the word is going to continue to spread and the class will become even more popular. Getting noticed out there like this piece of coverage will do for the class can do wonders. One only knows where a short little clip can take you.
Wow! This is really interesting. It's cool to see media coverage on a course that I am apart of. I think that New Media Driver's License offers a lot of beneficial information and experience to its students, so it's not surprising that this is being shared with the public. I think that this could really encourage a large number of students to think about enrolling in this course for future semesters. This is a great way to keep a positive image on the course!
I hope this encourages more students to enroll in the future - and not just students in the Comm. Arts college! It would be a great thing if students from all majors were aware of this course and the benefits it provides. MSU Comm. Arts is offering a great one-of-a-kind course and I'm happy that the word is being spread so we can gain more recognition from fellow students and the community.
It is a great opportunity to spread information about MSU New Media Driver's License in the United States. It is awesome that our class was recognized by Fox. Lets’ learn more from this course and apply it after starting our career in communication and marketing field.
Sadly I didn't get a chance to watch it yet, but I think it's great that this class is starting to get media attention! I mention I'm taking this class to other students, and often they have never heard of it or think of it just a fluff class. In general people do not realize the power of social media, and think of it as only a way to connect with friends. This class outlines all the possibilities it has. It's good to see that the media is beginning to see this class as something special, so others will realize it too, and it will help NMDL students get recognized in the future.
I usually watch TMZ (which is on Fox) Monday-Wednesday at 12AM. I remember at the beginning of last week I saw the commercial for this segment and thought it was pretty neat that this class is being featured on a Fox 47 News segment. Additionally, I can't specifically recall many commercials promoting news segments that air so far in advance. From Monday-Wednesday alone, I probably saw that commercial at least 6 times- just from watching TMZ alone. I would imagine a lot of 35-50 year old people who are older, but not "old" either watched or DVR-ed it, wanting to dip their feet in the information taught in this class. Advertising professionals of that age aren't as engaged in social and digital media as those just beginning their careers, and I think this class would be a good thing for people even with established careers to take. I can imagine even people who aren't involved in the advertising field are highly interested in sharpening their knowledge and found this segment to be a must watch. I thought it sounded really interesting, and am bummed I was unable to tune in. Overall I think it's fabulous that this great, informative class is getting recognition, as well as educating the public on the topics we learn about each week. I'm very fortunate to be taking it!
I got so excited when I saw this. I had already starting trying to incorporate what I have been learning into almost every conversation I have. This way people got to see what MSU has to offer them first off and how what we are learning is so much on the cutting edge of the industry. I have talked to quite a few industry professionals already who seem surprised and impressed that I even know what terms to use when talking about an online campaign or digital project. I think people in and out of the industry are encouraged that we get the opportunity to learn this material in such a relevant way and also that the professors are willing to go to other companies and teach this information. If companies start catching on to just how important this knowledge is than there will plenty of jobs around for those of us who know how to use these resources.
Unfortunately, I was unable to watch it lively because I came home late; however, I am so excited to hear that New Media Driver’s License got well-deserved media coverage on Thursday. I will "twit" as well as "like" this event on Twitter and Facebook so that not only my friends but also other people can have an opportunity to learn about the importance of social network and what New Media Driver's License is.
I unfortunately missed the news coverage, but that's great the class name was able to get out there. PR is such an important thing when it comes to branding and building a recognizable name. To take this coverage viral, I would encourage everyone in the class to include it in their Facebook status updates and on their Twitter accounts, while using hash tags and tagging the fan page on Facebook to increase traffic back to the original sites. I cannot seem to find the actual coverage online though which is too bad.
I think that this coverage should be posted on the New Media Drivers Licenses class page! I have been looking for it on the Internet. I went to the Fox 47 News website and couldn't find the coverage on there and didn't know if they haven't posted it yet or what? Does anyone know where we can see the video?! If so could you post the link on here! Thanks
Although I didn't see this media clip live, I did see commercials advertising the coverage. It's great to see that other people are taking an interest in the New Media Driver's License and that what we are doing is being recognized. Including the news clips on the NMDL, CAS website and youtube channel could help send the video viral. Also, maybe MSU would post this video on their homepage for everyone to see!
This was great! I wasn't even aware it was going to be on actually and I saw it on the news. It was really cool to be able to see something I was actually a part of being featured for the entire public to see. I think its crazy how fast the word about this class has spread not only on campus, but when I search on Google for things, many times I run across NMDL. This program has a lot of potential to grow and so far is doing really well in my opinion as far as doing everything possible to promote it through the media.
Great publicity for NMDL! I happened to be watching the local tv station when the preview for this story was shown. It is a well-deserved news story. Many people are beginning to spread the word about this class, and now that the public can understand it better it means good news for the class!
It is so amazing to see our course on TV! Although I missed the live program, I'm very excited to see the logo of NMDL from the video. I do believe that it is all of our efforts - the tweets and posts and all other efforts made by professors and the students of this course - that brought about the opportunity to have our course there. Congradulations to all of us!
Though I missed the chance to watch the news because I just saw the blog, I am really proud of all the things! It is very surprising that our New Media Drive Licence class got some attention from public news station. In fact, before I was taking this course, even myself was not clear what this course is about but now, I can suggest anybody that I know to better taking this course. It is really helpful to get familar with all the media source, and again, it is glad to hear the news above!!
It's pretty awesome that our class was recognized by Fox. I've never seen a class get a feature story on a nightly news before, and it's awesome that this class is getting the publicity it deserves. It amazes me that I still talk to so many other students here that don't really know what this class is about. This is one of those classes that everyone could benefit from, and it'll really help to get more people recognizing how great it really is. All around awesome thing for the class.
Wow! It is good news for us! I'm really sure nobody ignore the importance of the internet for marketing. I think it is great chance to learn how to strength the skills and abilities for the online marketing through the class. Even though the audience for the news is limited in the area of lansing, I think it would be great opportunities to spread information about New Media Driver's License in the United States.
The news story for the class is awesome! I saw it while watching tv the other night and made my roommates watch it as well. This is great for our class and I am sure the amount of people who want to join the class will increase greatly. When I first signed up for the class, a lot of my friends had not heard about the New Media Drivers Licence class. Now I have heard several people show interest in it which means that people are getting information about it. Linking the news story will make the class even more well known.
This is exactly what the book, the New Rules of Marketing and PR talks about as far as PR doing itself by getting the company name out there. Instead of pitching your business to news agencies, the agencies will fing out about your company through their own research. I would take this coverage viral by posting it on as many sites as possible like twitter and facebook. I would use the hash tag #NMDL so that all of the people searching for the coverage would easily be able to find the content.
This coverage is great for the class and MSU. It shows how we are tackling the change in the way we communicate to buyers by learning more about new media. I know that new media is going to evolve more in the coming years but we will still be ahead other universities. Glad I could be a part of the class!
The fact that NMDL took an great opportunity to get Fox 47 coverage made me surprised, even though I could not watch that. I watched the preview attached above, so I think it must have been very exciting news, and I want to watch it later through Youtube or any other ways if possible. I am kind of proud of which MSU is in the center of new media field that is very important in this modern industry.
Congratulations to all of us! It is a great opportunity to promote NMDL to those people who are not MSU students, and if possible, some of them will get interested in this course! But, according to this event, I have to reconsider which is a more influential media, the traditional one or the new one? Admitted the coverage of news on TV is much bigger than our class circle. Even though each of us promote the NMDL course on our SNS website, can we get the same coverage like TV program?
I've talked to some people about this class, some from MSU, some not, and it's crazy the amount of them that have heard ot he NMDL. It's great that the class is getting news coverage so that the word will spread even further! What if this class spread throughout the nation and many universities taught it!
It feels great to be a part of this course and the major headway it is making in the media, at MSU and opportunities for us students with future employers. The fact that this course is getting big attention is like a free letter of recommendation. I can approach potential future employers and mention that have have experience with social media and marketing, and for those companies that currently do no have online social media as a component to their campaigns is huge. I am very thankful for this class, the knowledge I have been learning and the creative ideas I have been able to unveil.
I think it's not only exciting that NMDL was on the news but it also shows that people are realizing how vital being social media savvy is. It's great that MSU is forging the way in teaching students how to navigate through the world of social media. By Fox News spotlighting the program hopefully it showed a lot of employers that we as students are working hard to be on the cutting edge of social media. It was a great promo for the program as well. Hopefully more employers will see a NMDL on a resume as a real valid stamp of knowledge and expertise.
It's such a wonderful opportunity that the MSU New Media Drivers License course got coverage. Many people, even in the MSU community, aren't aware that the class exists or what it even entails for that matter. Getting the community involved offers a tremendous opportunity for the word of mouth advertising to soar. People talking and being interested in the course will drive the enrollment numbers to increase! With more people learning about new media, the online community and social media community can be utilized to its fullest potentials. Its great to have gotten a spot on the news!
Some well deserved recognition for a unique class opportunity. With all the classes that go on at MSU NMDL is one of them that stands out. By being different and presenting some real value to students in this digital age NMDL was picked up by Fox 47 News for some free publicity. To get this kind of attention is great for the future of NMDL and it always feels nice to be noticed.
I just saw this blog post, so I missed the chance to watch it! I think I'll definitely watch this when it gets uploaded on Youtube or wherever. I hope this class gets more well-deserved media coverages so that my resume can look better.
I happen to agree with the post by Scott Schofding. It would have been exiting to have been able to view the coverage and have it shared by others. Having it only limited to the Lansing area kind of defeat the purpose. I live in the metro detroit area and I won’t be able to see the coverage. It would have been great to be able to share it with all my friends and family and to show them what a great educational tool this class is. It’s also interesting to know if this coverage is the property of the news channel and whether NMDL personnels can actually use it and take it viral. With that said, I think it’s great to have New Media Drivers License highlighted on the news for its content and results and for its relevance to today’s business world.
I think this is a great opportunity for the New media drivers license course. I think that new media will greatly change the next 10 years of business and to have this kind of coverage is crucial. Not only is it a good representation of seeing advertising and marketing in a good light, it is also a great representation of MSU. I think that if enough people comment on it, tweet it, share links on facebook etc. etc. others will share it and before you know it thousands of people will be sharing the coverage. Lets get MSU recognized and help out!
It is so exciting to see this class being pick up by the news. I truly believe Michigan State has latched on to something that is remarkable. This is the first class I have seen of its kind. When talking with friends from different universities, they have nothing offered like this. It is great to see our university being recognized for its efforts. I believe this course is only going to grow and become more effective in the future. It will be interesting to see if other universities start to pick up on the trend and offer similar courses. I wish I would have been able to catch the news coverage the other night, to see what they had put together.
While I acknowledge news coverage for the NMDL class is really a very positive and exciting event, it appears it was only available to those who happened to be watching or knew to watch the news that night. Don't get me wrong, I am truly very happy for the publicity the class received, but are we only talking to ourselves? Those of us outside the city couldn't watch it. In fact, I even made numerous search attempts on the station's website, YouTube and Google but I couldn't find it. It's great to know NMDL got some coverage, but it would be nicer to have access to the content (to enjoy, to be proud and most important, to share with others).
To this point, isn't this one of the main points of being successful in new media? Great content, yes, but easy accessibility is imperative. To your question how we can make this go viral, first let's make it available. For example, I think we should get it posted on YouTube, publicize its existence by providing a link back to it for everyone to enjoy. We should use all of our combined resources and all of our NMDL channels to reach out to current, past and NMDL alumnae. Per chapter 8 of "The New Rules of Marketing & PR" we need to nurture it along a bit so the rest of us can be proud and others can learn more about the progress and forward thinking success of the faculty. Then, maybe it can or will be picked up by other media outlets and begin a life of its own outside the Lansing area.
This is amazing! It is so exciting to see promotions for our class being covered on the news. Whenever I tell my friends I am doing homework for my drivers license media class they look at me like I'm nuts! But once I explain to them that it is a course that trains students about the "new media" and digital marketing world, I see the jealousy in their eyes. This class is ground breaking and I'm confident that in the next couple of years every student at MSU will be wanting to enroll in it.
This news coverage is GREAT publicity for the class. So many of my friends don't understand the class and what it's all about, so this is a great story to show them and let them understand a bit better. While I was unable to watch the coverage live, I am excited to see if it shows up online or on the NMDL website so that I can watch it and see how they interpreted the class. This coverage could definitely get more MSU students interested in taking the class in the future!
I saw this commercial while I was watching Fox on Thursday night! It is really great coverage and promotion for Michigan State as a leader in teaching new media practices to students. I hope that all of the positive coverage helps MSU stand out as THE place to learn about new media. It shows that not all other universities keep their ciriculum up to date and modern, but MSU strives to give their students the best, most relevant educaction possible. Go Green!
I actually found out about the coverage when I was watching a show on fox that i Tivo. When I was forwarding through the commercials (yeah, I'm THAT consumer...) I saw the logo and it caught my eye. When I actually saw the segment, I was surpised at how short it was. Fox had blasted commercials on the story for days and frequently during primetime shows so I was shocked at how short the feature was. Also, I feel that the feature failed to really capture what the class is about. They kept mentioning that Social Media is big and the class is about SM, but I don't think the class was given the justice it deserved. But that's just my opinion.
I didn't catch the story but I find it odd that this was brought up this week. Thursday evening I was out with some "non-college age" friends and we were talking about the classes I've been taking at MSU and my career path. We began talking about the importance of social media and utilizing websites in the marketing world. I mentioned that I was currently taking a class in new media learn more skills in this area and one person asked "whats up with this driver's license thing?" Clearly they had heard of NMDL! So congratulations to everyone who is part of this class, the word is definently getting out!
NMDL getting media coverage on Fox 47 is so exciting. I think the coverage is great publicity for the class. I think it is well deserved and enrollment for this class will skyrocket. I had never really heard about this class before my advisor recommended it to me. Now it is everywhere, online and on the news. I think it is also great to get such good publicity for those of us who are job searching. This class provides you with so many skills that employers are looking for and to have it recognized by a local news station shows a lot.
Just like Nicholas Butterfield I unfortunately missed the coverage but I did receive a phone call from my mother asking me if the class that was on the news was the class that I was taking this semester. I was very excited when my mom said that she really like that class and after I explained it to her more in dept she was wondering if they had a class like this that she could just pay for for to learn about the things we learn. If I had the power to choose how to go viral with this coverage I would have tried to get every news station in Michigan and not just Lansing to cover this. I would also have it on youtube with links on every page that has some kind of affiliation with the information that we are learning in class.
Unfortunately I missed the news report on the class, but that's very exciting that it's getting publicized so much! I just spoke with my advisor today and heard that New Media Drivers License as of next year will no longer be considered a "Special Topics" class but will actually have its own course number and everything now. This is a perfect example of everything taught in this class, the more buzz you can create about your product (or class in this case) the more successful it will be. I have to believe the biggest reason this class blew up as fast as it did was thanks to the internet media and the class being posted all over facebook, twitter, linkedin, youtube and obviously this website. Not to mention the countless amounts of squidoo pages and random blogs either starting from this class or about it.
I am constantly watching FOX news, and was very excited to see promotions for our class to be covered on the news. Each commercial spot I saw included an image of the new media website which is free advertising that definitely creates interest towards the class. After watching the segment on the news last night I was instantly reminded of all of the perks of taking this class, and all of the helpful tools I am learning that will help me in my future endeavors. I believe that one way to make this coverage go viral is to listen to the very advice that the class offers. By posting links and reminders on twitter and facebook, followers will be updated live about what is going on and will have the opportunity to catch all coverage. Having the news feature an interest piece on this class is a very big deal for this course, the professors, and students involved but shines a bright spotlight on our University and helps promote the positive aspects we have to offer. Not only was I aware of this news piece from the promotional spots but the news of the story was buzzing around my peers. I received texts from three fellow classmates which proves that without much publicity the story was already going viral. Another way to promote the coverage could have been through a departmental email from the college of communications. Weekly emails are sent out here and is a free way of spreading the word to thousands of students who can tune in, learn about the class, and potentially become future students of the course.
I totally agree. It was so cool to see our class on television. It definitely goes to show how important this class is and how it's sucha valuable resource at MSU. This class gives exclusive information and skills unavialable to others.
The news coverage is great - the more buzz that is generated, the more valuable NMDL becomes for our resumes! Unfortunately, I live in the Detroit area so I won't be able to see the coverage live. I am hoping that the video will be posted online after it airs so that I can post it to my social media sites, that way people will understand what I've been talking about all semester and I can do my part to spread the word!
This is great exposure for NMDL, Michigan State University, and Ingenex as well. I missed the segment on the the news and I was hoping to find it online. Unfortunately, my search results turned up nothing save for the preview above that was posted on Fox 47 and NMDL's Facebook page. For this news to acheive viral buzz it would need to be posted, in full, online. I am surprised Fox 47 did not have this segment uploaded to their website, as most news organizations archive features on their website for future viewing. However, you have to start somewhere, and television coverage by a local news station is excellent exposure.
