Being a part of a class that was on the news is exciting! It's really great to be a part of something that's become so big, and I think that it gives myself and the entirity of Michigan State Unversity great credibility. I love being a part of this network and the Advertising program. Way to go!
It's so exciting to be a part of something that has become such a big thing. To say that I am in a class that was on the news really gives credibilty not only to myself, but to Michigan State University as a whole. Way to go!
I think its almost that our class made it on the news. One of the best medium to spread the word is through television. Once people see this on television they would start to want to be apart of it. I'm happy for the teachers of this class that it was featured in the news. And I would hope that it will bring lots of sucess to the class and allow students to see that this class can only help you in your future.
I think it is awesome that our class has made it onto the news--what a great way to spread the news! Our entire class is about getting the word out and creating a brand etc so seeing this on the news just shows how important what we're learning is. Generally speaking, social media knowledge is definitely the next most important thing to know. My dad even talks about how they lack social media where he works since most of the people are older and less informed about the benefits or just simply how to use a good deal of technology. This is a great skill for not just our field but general real world experience and work!
Seeing this on tv about our class just makes me so excited to be in this class! We all want something that can make us stand out to our future employers and I think this could be something. I think its important for people to watch this and see how this class really is taking us the extra step that we need to be the best candidate in the job field. And once again its so interesting how everything links together and how this can create more viral coverage!
This is super awesome! I can't believe that the New Media Drivers License class has made it on Television, this just proves how social media (and MSU) is so important! :) It's great that people from outside of MSU is learning about it, hopefully it will boost MSU's reputation! It could potentially create more jobs for the people that are taking this class. Once again, i'm happy that I was able to register in this class, i'm not only learning so much about the social media world but i'm being reassured that this class is very beneficial in the long run and it's important enough to make it on television. GO GREEN!!
For some reason I thought last weeks blog post was the hit it one so here I am commenting on this post this week. It's so exciting that this class has made it on the news. It is so new and social media is so revolutionary to our time that I think everyone in college should be required to take this class if they are a business major/ in the communications college. It's too bad that more people don't watch the news our age any more, but luckily with youtube and other sharing services many people will still see the news clips online.
I think it's great that social media is continuing to grow and this news segment shows that. People that are really into social media and technology have known about this for awhile now and I think it's good that this segment was put out there to show that everyone can be part of it, especially those who aren't so into the Internet and social networking. It's a growing phenomenon that's only going to get bigger and I can't wait to see where it goes.
I'm very excited to see this! It gets the word out about what exactly the NMDL class is and how Michigan State is able to be one step ahead of every university. It allows me to not only be proud to go to Michigan State, but to be enrolled in this class. If everyone in the NMDL class posted this to their twitter and/or facebook, it would spread to other Michigan State students who could share it and the trend could continue. I would love for this video to go viral, as it could show the country and the world what Michigan State is all about!
I got so excited when I saw this. I had already starting trying to incorporate what I have been learning into almost every conversation I have. This way people got to see what MSU has to offer them first off and how what we are learning is so much on the cutting edge of the industry. I have talked to quite a few industry professionals already who seem surprised and impressed that I even know what terms to use when talking about an online campaign or digital project. I think people in and out of the industry are encouraged that we get the opportunity to learn this material in such a relevant way and also that the professors are willing to go to other companies and teach this information. If companies start catching on to just how important this knowledge is than there will plenty of jobs around for those of us who know how to use these resources.

That's amazing! Finally our school gets some recognition for the greatness of our classes since many of the things that MSU is covered on has to do with tuition and/or sports. It's great that we're finally getting positive attention and hopefully this will encourage more students to sign up for this class (whether they're PR, Adv, Com majors) - I feel that everyone can learn something from this class and take back with them.
That's a great point to bring up. The only time you see Michigan State in the news is in regards to sports, and some of the time it's negative. It is about time MSU gets coverage for their positive impact and especially in the academic world, the main reason this University exists. The attention this class is getting is great! Hopefully this will encourages students alike to jump on board and take the course. It is definitely a worthwile experience and I would recommend it to anyone interesting in media.
It is unbeleivable that Michigan State is being given such an unbelievable opportunity to show off some of the courses that it offers. I never knew about this class until a friend recommended it to me so I feel that this news coverage will spark enrollment and certainly knowledge of the course!
I didn't see this blog post until after the class was covered, but am ecstatic to hear it's receiving some well-deserved coverage! It will also be great to reference in interviews, and bring attention to the strengths and advantages Michigan State students have over any other university. Looking forward to more positive coverage to continue, congrats!
When I saw the advertisement for the news and saw the new media drivers license course being featured I immediately texted everyone I knew in the class because I was so shocked. I do feel as though this is a course unlike anything I have ever heard of, here or at other universities. It is a step above the rest and absolutely deserves some light shined upon it. I am grateful because not only does this validate how important and useful I find the material we learn but it gets recognize as something that employers should take very seriously when considering the qualifications of someone being considered for a position. I have personally explaine the course to possible future employers at interviews and although they do seem to be not only impressed but interested in looking into the course more to see what exactly we do. The fact that the news is covering our class means that more people will understand how important it is not only to have employees who can use the tools we learn but how they can improve their business.
I didn't get a chance to watch the coverage when it was on either, but I've been hearing a lot of people talk about it! It's great that we come up when you search for Fox 47, or the connection between the two comes up when you look for the NMDL. I have friends that have taken this class before reposting information about the broadcast, so I know the news is really getting out there. That, in its own way, its pretty viral. It's exciting!
I was in Chicago this weekend and unfortunately missed the segment L However, It’s great to see some media attention for the course. I’m sure the university and the class was well represented. I like knowing that the things we are learning in the classroom are practical and can be put to use in real world settings. It’s reassuring to know that the material presented in class is current and highly touted by employers who are looking for potential candidates.
This is awesome that our class was essentially promoted on the news! It sort of shows every thing you have taught us and now the class is in essence its own brand. I actually see this class as not having much of a problem going viral. I think other schools might even try to mimick a similar class, after all social media is the most up and coming tool.
It think it is very cool that this class was mentioned in the news. Fox 47 really built up the hype for a few days prior to it actually airing - hopefully people took notice. When I was telling a friend about the class, she was slightly confused about how we could get a license to drive and tweet (LOL) - She's from that "other school" down river, so I find it appropriate to judge her. The point is - people that were unfamiliar with the concept will become more familiar with more coverage and more people talking about the benefits that come from it.
Too bad I was at work and missed it :-( Although I did hear, (and read) great things about the segment.
The buzz about the new media driver’s license course has spread rapidly amongst the campus. Since last summer when I first put this course on my schedule, I’ve heard numerous of my classmates talk about it and use it in daily conversation. Just last week, I used what I learned about SEO for one of my campaigns for a client. I think word-of-mouth has been a great asset to this course, and now getting publicly recognized is huge. I’m glad that other people get to see how important social media is becoming in our society especially since the old rules of traditional marketing doesn’t apply anymore.
This is very awesome for our organization and it will help promote this class even more. I think this is great and so many people will start to check out the program even more and learn how much information you can learn from this class.
Saw it and loved it! What great publicity for one single course at MSU! It is not often that a single course receives attention such as this. Félicitations New Media DL!
WOW~~~~~I totally agree. It was so cool to see our class on television. It definitely goes to show how important this class is and how it's sucha valuable resource. This class gives exclusive information and skills unavialable to others.
I didn't get to see the whole segment, but I did catch the last 30 seconds or so. I was excited to see that I got to see at least a little bit of it. I think that this segment shows the importance of social media to many people who without seeing the segment wouldn't think that Twitter and Facebook could actually help their businesses and brands. It also shows that MSU is training their students to use the latest technologies. Hopefully this will help in the job market!
I saw your tweet about the class being featured in the news, and then saw this commercial later on! I made sure to record the news broadcast on my DVR and watched it later on. It's so exciting that this class is getting the coverage and attention it deserves. I was, however, a little disappointed with the short length of the segment about NMDL, and wish it talked more about all of the valuable topics this class covers. It focused more on why everyone should be gaining skills in social media (an excellent point) - however, I do not think simply seeing that segment in the broadcast would necessarily convince anyone to sign up. It almost seemed like the hype and commercials about this segment were a bit overrated compared to the length and content of it. I had to fast forward through almost the entire news broadcast, closer to the end, only to watch what felt like a short clip. Hopefully, this at least peaked some interest to this amazing class.
Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to watch this Fox47 news, but that it is impressed to see NMDL class on TV. I think it is a great opportunity to learn social media. This coverage helps MSU students, becoming professional. I am happy to take this class.
It is great that this course is getting all the attention that it is. It is a very unique experience, and a huge selling point for our school's programs. It is also beneficial for employers to know what students at MSU have the opportunity to do, in hopes that it can help more people get in the door. Drawing more attention to this course could also motivate other Universities or Colleges to start educating students on the same concepts.
I think its really amazing that we are getting media coverage on the news. This class is all about maximizing your visibility and its exciting to see our class on the news. I cant imagine how many people saw the story, especially since it came on after american idol. This should help people to see how important media is and how it can be applied to their lives and businesses. It makes me really excited to be gaining all this knowledge that I will be able to take with me into my professional life.
New media is definitely required a certificate before we go out and safely drive it. As a digital marketer prospect , soical media is now no longer just a online communication tool that help me a keep in touch and make connection with my friends I am now gradually seeing myself using social media from business standpoints. Organizations, corporations and business should view soical media as opportunities to distinguish themselves from their rivals because it is definitly a new era of communication.
Wow~ it is good for NMDL class! Actually I am making the video advertising about NMDL class right now for extra credit opportunity.
Therefore, I did not sleep whole night. During the making advertising, I realized it it too hard to announce or introduce something.
But Fox 47 news is professional. It is good impact other audience about NMDL class. In addition, I realized how to good opportunity for advertising this class through the process of making video advertising. After reading, It is certain that social media and online link is important for surviving recent world.
I am really happy to learn about this course.
I think it's really exciting to be enrolled in a class that has received media coverage on Fox! As a long-time American Idol fan, I know how many people watch the show and then continue watching the news afterward, so I'm sure there are many people out there who learned about our New Media Driver's License course last Thursday. This course has already been a positive impact on my pre-professional life, because it has allowed be to explore different aspects of digital marketing that I was once unfamiliar with. Already, I have been able to talk about this course in three different internship interviews and have intrigued the employers with the mission of NMDL. Hopefully, the coverage our course got last Thursday will persuade others to learn about the new rules of marketing and PR too!
It is great that this class is gaining attention because of the employers that I have met with and explained the NMDL class have been very impressed. If it gains exposure through local media that could increase its credibility and gives the students involved in the class more to talk about with the class.
On Wednesday, I was walking by the TV when I heard that Fox would be covering the NMDL the following day. I was excited to watch it, but as time passed it slipped my mind until I got home Thursday night. I went to talk to my parents who were watching the news and a commercial for the upcoming story about NMDL came on. My dad goes, "Isn't that a class you're in?" And I instantly replied, "Yeah! I forgot this was on tonight!" and sat down to watch the news story. Then my mom looked at me confused and goes, "A license? For what? ...I was watching this because I thought it was something you had to get added to your driver's license." I had to laugh. Thankfully for NMDL, I think Fox did a great job at drawing attention to their news story about NMDL. Fox's news coverage of NMDL was awesome for the course, and in order to get the coverage to get viral I would encourage everyone in the class to post videos of the news coverage on their personal social media pages.
More each day we come to realize how important the things tought in NMDL are. This shows that everyone is starting to catch on. It still amazes me what this class covers and how many (including myself before this class) do not realize the importance. This class, and all it covers, is a big deal and I'm glad the word is being spread. I did not get a chance to watch the actual coverage, but I did see them talk about it saying that it was going to be a topic on that night's cast. It kind of caught me off gaurd when they announced it on the television.
I think it is awesome that the class is gaining attention and Fox was able to cover the class. I think what I would do to take this coverage viral is to create a press release on the news event and then post it on the blog, twitter and facebook pages so that people that weren't able to watch the content will be able to know what they missed! I think this class is an awesome way for people to understand digital marketing and I am happy to see that people are recognizing the benefits from this class and what it can do to help brand yourself! In my marketing 460 class we also discussed how important this class would add to the marketing courses in the business school, because we dont have any curriculum that covers digital marketing and I find that we gain a lot of insight from this class.
I saw this preview last Tuesday on Fox, and was looking forward to watching the program, but then completely forgot about it on Thursday. I could not find any clips from the broadcast. I hope Fox will make them available soon. If I did have a clip, I would help it go viral by posting it to Twitter (as a link) or Facebook, have MSU send the clip out to it's email base, and by emailing it to people that might be interested in taking the course.
Unfortunately, I didn't see this blog before the news segment came on. However, I am glad that our class received coverage! I am learning about online marketing and the tools to use that I normally don't get to learn in my other advertising classes. Online marketing is such an important aspect of marketing/advertising nowadays. It is very important that students graduate with a good understanding of what it is and how to utilize it benefit their future careers. I am enjoying this class, and I hope in the future it continues to grow and attract more students!
I was really disappointed that I did not see this post before the class was highlighted on Fox47. However, it is really awesome that it received media attention. Before registering for this course, I was hesitant on whether or not it was an important topic for my major. However, I am really glad I decided to take it because we are learning so much useful information and tactics. This definitely just reaffirms that it was a great decisions.
That is so cool the Lansing news featured a story on the New Media Drivers License course. It's great that this class is getting recognition and more awareness about the course since not many people have heard of a new media drivers license. I am sad I didn't see this post until now, or else I would have tuned in. It's crazy how things like this, among others, can be taken viral. It really is the new word of mouth advertising-word of type perhaps? To take this viral I would post it to youtube and tag the video with things such as social media, michigan state, innovative college class. I would also post it on my blog and share the video with my friends via Facebook or Twitter. This would help get the video out there. I'd also look for articles related to new media and college classes to post this video under in the comments section.
That is awesome this class has and continues to receive such positive press! I think it is a great way to get fellow and future students excited about some of the courses offered here at MSU. I know for me, taking strictly business courses becomes monotonous that is why I was so excited to learn about this class. It is a course I can look forward to and I am glad the word is getting out there! I think this is also a phenomenal way to give the local community and people in this class more opportunities in the work force.
It's so exciting to see class being broadcast on television. I think it benefits both us and the course, that more and more people know about New Media Driver's License. For the audiences, they would know how important these social media get to, and will be more willing to put more effort in these social media (perhaps more intellectual stuff? lol) More, people would know how those small functions are important (such as tags, or categories)
I am so grateful that NMDL received this coverage! It is such a great course and word about it needs to spread! Word of mouth and viral marketing are the best ways to get the word out! A great way would be to have everyone in the class post the videos we made for extra credit as their facebook, twitter and linkedin status. New Media is something that everyone needs to be educated on and it is great that we are recognized. Getting noticed out there like this piece of coverage will do for the class can do wonders. One little YouTube video can take you so far! It is unbelievable how small the world is today because of the internet.
Unfortunately I didn't get to catch the news story covering this class, but I can only imagine how beneficial it could be for the NMDL course. It's exciting to be part of a class that's gaining so much news coverage and media attention. Not only does this course offer numerous opportunities and knowledge to us as a students, but I think it could potentially be beneficial to the marketing and advertising professionals that are already out in the field. Businesses should really encourage their employees to take part in a course similar to this, especially since social media tactics are becoming so increasingly important these days. On a local level, this news coverage is even a great way businesses to hear about NDML and what it has to offer and for those that employ MSU students, they could recommend it to them. I heard about this class through word of mouth which I'm sure many of my current classmates did as well, so hearing about it on the local news definitely seems to add more credibility to it as being a beneficial course.
Yay NMDL! News exposure is great not only for the class but for social media in general! Before the feature on NMDL, FOX 47 advertised for the class and the feature for around 3 day. If people didn't know what NMDL was, they now do. The feature also makes Michigan State look like a leader in the advertising industry and that MSU advertising students are recievin a useful education! Hopfully this exposure will attract new students and potential employers!
I think that it's awesome that Fox 47 is doing a story based on our class. It's not only a great way to promote the class to other students, but people in the Lansing/East Lansing community could also get inspired to learn to use Social Media in a positive way. Also, businesses in the community can gain awareness about the class and what we're learning as students. This way, we will be more marketable to businesses that need help in differnet online marketing areas. I personally wasn't in the area to see the actual story run Thursday night, so I don't know if they interviewed any students, but a good follow up story could include interviewing students at the end of the semester and figuring out what the most important thing they took away from the class was.
Way to go NMDL! I'm glad to see that this class is finally getting the media attention it deserves. I feel like my other classes don't observe the effect the internet has had on marketing, advertising and public relations. This class offers a great amount of lessons on these new methods of communication and consumer involvement. I actually missed the newscast on Fox 47, but would love to watch it if the video is available. Live tweeting during this event is a great example of how new and traditional media intersect-exactly what this course is about!
The news coverage is a great way for this class to get exposure. I remember when the class was first introduced, the conceot was incredibly new and there wasn't much buzz about it other than professors encouraging us to take it. Now, if you're an advertising major its almost a requirement to take this course if you want an extra edge on the competition in the job market. This news coverage is just adding value to the course and if people don't know what it is or question it we can now say it was featured on the news.
I think this is great exposure for the NMDL and for those of us who (will) have completed this course. When I started here four years ago, the only exposure this class had was word-of-mouth, which then transformed into flyers that professors passed out nonchalantly. It's pretty cool to see the transformation of this class and it's pretty cool that we are the largest class enrolled so far (and hopefully it will keep growing). I feel bad for those who take it in a few years time. Right now we are at the tail end of having this new training, meaning that more and more colleges are copying this program and within a even a year, it won't be valued as much as it is now. But, congrats on the coverage!
There is nothing I love more about a class than have a professor that's genuinely interested in the topic he teachs, and be able to engage enthuistically with the class and community as a whole.
