This is a great example of how to optimize a blog post. Notice the title of the post has keywords. And there are strategic links and keywords that point back to important items. The more times we can get links back to our web sites, the better. So when you build your blog as an emerging new media star, you want to be sure you tell Google exactly what is on your blog. And then you want to build links back to your blog. In fact, when you comment on this blog - that is a Follow link back to your blog. In fact, here is another great site that teaches about Do Follow links - which is what you want when you take the time to build links back to your sites.
How is your blog optimization coming along? Hopefully better after reading the New Media Driver’s License® Guide.
Comments & Feedback
I would highly recommend everyone to read this book and obtain their New Media Driver's Licenses. Through reading this book you are able to expand your mind into the new world of social media. A few topics covered in the book are Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and an intro into blogging. Blogging is a very useful skill anyone can master. You also get to explore web design, Google, and internet marketing towards the second half of the book. The real world examples help relate the content to the reader's and help us to understand the material. This is a book you want to keep reading and you get to learn some pretty cool stuff along the way.
Even though I haven’t had any chance to read the entire chapters of the New Media Driver’s License Resource guide, I feel that this book will help me a lot throughout this semester. The book is easy to follow and it has a lot of resources about social media. When I first got this week’s assignment, I was not really sure what to do and how to start. However, after reading this book, I realized that this assignment’s going to be easier than I thought. I definitely want to keep this book for my future reference. Really helpful book!
Although this weeks assignment is proving to be the most difficult yet, The New Media Driver's License Resource Guide is definitely helping me pick through the details of this assignment and giving some awesome advice on how to optimize searching for my blog. I think after I finish the first 6 chapters and dig a little deeper into certain parts, finishing up this weeks lesson will be a breeze. I am really enjoying the fact that when I first look at the assignments each week I have no idea what to do, and then by the end of the week and I complete the assigned reading i'm ready to do them. I'm learning a new skill each week and that is what is making this class so valuable to me. I'm learning things that I will no doubt be using in the future.
After reading the required portion for this week, I know that the New Media Drivers License Resource Guide is going to be incredibly useful to me. The format is not something I am a fan of, but I enjoy the short excerpts about each website's desired features. Already I have bookmarked pages that I know I will reference outside of class. Recently I took the time to look up a resource for someone wondering about blog posting ideas. They found it useful and were interested in learning more resources from the guide. I am looking forward to gaining more resources to help me with not only tasks in class but with other everyday social media activities.
I think the book is a good read. I started reading it last night and I liked how easy it was to read. I like the way that it is broken up into portions so that you can read the point of what you're trying to understand and avoid the fluff. It's how textbooks or books for class in general should be. I haven't fully gained the knowledge I need to finish my SEO posts but I'm still learning and this book is giving me the information I need to really understand why this assignment is going to benefit me and that's why I like it.
I wish I had read this book earlier! The New Media Driver's License guide is so easy to read, and the setup is perfect for students on the go. The links are also organized perfectly between the book and resource links website. There is a TON of information the first 6 chapters, but the advice is so valuable, especially coming from so many different experts. I am going to re-read this book after finishing it next week, because I know there is a ton on information lurking in the pages that I missed the first time.
I enjoy the New Media Resource guide because it gives you a tremendous amount of information complied in a single book. The resources located in the book are well organized and applicable to this class as well as in the real world. This book will be extremely useful post college. I was very new to the SEO idea and had no idea where to start when doing this weeks assignment. By using the resources found in the book, I found the previously frightening topic of SEO to come at ease. Derek and Richard did a great job compiling so much information into a compact book.
I haven't had a chance to get too far into the New Media Driver's License Resource Guide, but I feel that it is going to be a very benefical book to have on hand and reference throughout the years. I wish I would have had a chance to read a bit of the book before starting my blog so I could optimize it in the best way possible. I really enjoyed the Scott book, it had so many helpful hints and was super easy to read and unserstand. I can only assume that the New Media guide will be as resourcful to me as the Scott book has been.
The New Media Driver's License Resource Guide is extremely helpful and interesting because it tells you all kinds of social media stories instead of dry and simple guildline. I cannot stop reading all the cases that make me realize the magic and tricks of social media. We all use social media heavily everyday, and the first six chapters just show us how social media work way beyond entertainment, and how social media help business achieve success. This book just offers me a chance to dig into social media and online marketing.
I agree with your opinions. This book is different from other academic books. It provides a lot of useful resources and breif summaries. For students, this book gives us a clear guideline; for practitioners or marketers who want to use social media, they can refer to this book and get to know social media quickly. I think I will keep it and turn to it for ideas when I work in communication field.
I have only read the first part of New Media Drivers License Resource Guide so far, and I feel it is a valuable tool, especially to those just starting out in the social media world. However, the guide is so much different from the previous textbook The New Rules of Marketing & PR. I loved the reading format of New Rules of Marketing & PR. It allowed you to go online and view the author's examples if you liked, but also read straight through if you weren't near a computer. I understand that New Media Drivers License Resource Guide is just that, a resource guide, but it makes it hard for me to focus on the lesson when I am constantly going online and then back to the book. That being said, I do feel the information is helpful and I feel like if I ever had a question regarding social media, I could definitely use the textbook as a resource.
Already this class has been extremely beneficial in improving my knowledge on social media and how to use it to my advantage. By just reading the first section of The New Media Driver’s License Resource Guide, I have learned so many new tips and pieces of advice to optimize my blog and other various sites, like my LinkedIn profile or my Foursquare account. I know how to use Facebook for my own personal use, but it was very interesting to read on how to use it to promote my company as well. I want to work in collegiate sports, so I will definitely be using the tips I have learned in this book and this class to help build up my team’s social media presence. I feel that one of the best part of the book is all the various links that are included which really gives me the option to further explore the different topics if I am interested in them. This is one of the few books that I have read for my classes that I am actually interested in!
The New Media Drivers License Resource Guide helped me alot with this week's assignment. At first I had no idea what was expected of me to do to my blog. I was frequently checking the class discussion to see if you posted any more help or a better description. However after reading the first few chapters things became a lot clearer and now I have a way better idea of what to do to optimize my blog. This book offers a lot of intelligent ideas that I will probably always find handy. It is definitatly one of my college 'textbooks' that I will keep with me for future reference.
I’ve only read the first 6 chapters of the New Media Drivers License Resource guide, but I feel like this could be something I use for a very long time after this class. It’s very interesting how this book is set up because it gives you a little information and then gives you a link with more information on whatever you’re looking for. The assignment for this week is pretty confusing to me, and I still have some things to figure out, but I’m hoping some of the answers to my questions are inside this book. I have read a couple of things and they have given me some good ideas on how to optimize my blog, I just need to keep digging and hopefully it’ll help me promote my blog. This book seems to be a useful resource and I’m excited to see what other information I can learn.
After reading this, I know this weeks assignment will be a lot easier. Once I read the assignment I was a bit confused on what to do. Now that I have read this blog post form you it has given me a better idea of what to do and gives me a place to look on how to get started. Now I have looked and the book and it has been a great starter on how to optimize my blog. Now after more reading I am sure my blog will be a lot better and will become optimized over a period of time.
So far so good with optimizing my blog with key words and links. The fist 6 chapters of the resource guide really helped me get an understanding of how to utilize each social media profile to its full potential. I know that it isn’t going to happen overnight, but I have a great start. I’m excited to learn more when I read the rest of the resource guide!
I agree with everyone, this weeks assignment seemed very intimidating but my worries seemed to disappear after I read the New Media Drivers License Resource Guide. I've learned that less is more and how many blog posts per week are apporpriate. Before this class, I never had plans to create a blog or to optimize my work. Suprisingly, I have enjoyed creating posts and am now excited to optimize my blog so the public can see what I have been creating. I've also learned it is important to frequently update my content. I found the "Writing SEO-Friendly Blog Posts; 8 suggestions" to be VERY helpful with this weeks assignment. With the help of this book and resources my classmates have been posting, I now feel I am capable of accomlising anything social media related. So, thank you everyone!
Even though I've only read the first section of the New Media Drivers License Resource Guide, I know it will be very beneficial to me. I'm glad I purchased the book and I have the intent to keep it because I think it will be a great reference once I get a job. There are a number of resources which answer my questions on things like building blogs and cleaning up Facebook in order to land a job. I like the way the guide is written because it is easy to find information on a bunch of different social media Web sites. It has information on how to better a business through social media as well as bettering yourself as an individual. I'm betting that this book will answer all if not most of my questions I posted in my profile for the first assignment.
The New Media Drivers License Resource Guide contains a great deal of helpful and useful information for learning how to optimize my blog and learn more about search engine optimization, something I previously have no knowledge of or experience with. From this blog post, I found the article on DoFollow and NoFollow links very helpful as well. These two separate types of links were something I knew nothing about it. I did not know that filling a page with too many links can actually be a bad thing. The phrase "link juice" and saying of letting too much juice out leaving the glass empty really helped me to better grasp what it means to successfully embed links into my blog and other pages and what resources I can use to do so successfully. Overall, the text and supplemented sites given to us have been of great value to me in this class thus far, especially with this weeks of assigment about optimization.
The New Media Driver’s License Resource Guide showed me many valuable resources that helped me complete this week’s assignment. Blogging in general is new and so is optimizing it. This week’s assignment was overwhelming to me until I read the many blogging resources from the reading this week. The most useful resource I found was, blogging resource 2-11: Writing SEO-Friendly Blog Posts. I am still learning how to best optimize my blog, but the information I learned from the resources helped my Google analytics improve tremendously.
What we've been doing for this class has been great for my web prescense. All of the optimization features I'm using for my website and now I'm tracking it with analytics. I do wish this book came in an e-edition though.
The New Media Drivers License Resource Guide is an incredible resource for students or businesses wishing to better their online presence, serachbility or to augment their blog and other social media sites. It is a true resource for all things social media as well as press releases and digital marketing. I find myself to be tech savvy to an extent, but this guide has allowed me to go more in depth and to create a much better online presence.
To be honestly, I am not quite sure about the task of this week at first: to optimize the personal new blog. Since my previous experience in social media is mainly about basic sharing things to friends, even how to use key words link confused me. However, the new media resource guide is really helpful from the beginning. It has lots of resource for me to tell how to start. As for what I have learned most from the big, it is definitely from some articles that pointing out some fatal mistakes that people may take easily when using social media, such as building too much unwanted contents. I feel good about the fact that I am getting to know more day by day.
The New Media Driver's License Resource Guide is incredibly informative. I have not had the privelage to learn much about SEO or how to use it for that matter, and this book really helps to better understand. We are taught to utilize all these Social Media tactics, but not HOW to do so, or how to use them to their full potential. By learning to optimize & such, we can better understand the benefits and how these media outlets work.
Whoah. NoFollow vs. DoFollow. I would be lying if I said I wasn't still slightly confused what the difference is after even reading the squidoo page you linked to.
Interestingly enough, I have actually gotten some traffic to my blog via Google search already. I haven't been titling my articles keeping keywords for search in mind, but I have utilized links back to other posts on my blog and other websites containing useful content to my readers. So, does that mean I am passing on juice? Promoting my blog has been pretty successful and I'm excited to see how SEO fares.
Did I just give myself some juice by adding all those links to my content? Hmmm.
My blog optimization is coming along very slowly. This is the first time I have ever created a blog so I have had to thoroughly read the New Media Driver's License Guide to help me figure out what exactly I should be doing with my blog to be promoting it correctly. I have enjoyed reading this book and learning all that I can about social media because I feel like social media is the key to building a successful company in todays times. I think that so far I am doing a good job at getting my blog out there. My friends have all willingly decided to follow my blog and through them they have helped get my blog out there.
A blog is nothing without an audience. That is probably the most important thing I have read about in the book. With SEO and now using Google Analytics I think my blog will gain an audience and hopefully a large following. I think this reource guide has been by far the most helpful book I have read on social media and internet marketing. After reading this book, I can hopefully use my blog and social media to its fullest and help build my "brand" as a PR practitioner.
This book is possibly the most helpful piece of text on new media, and social media, that I have ever read (including other blogs and forums). The book actually guides you where to go for help, and has endless branches to information on the web. I'll pass this book along to all of my friends and make sure that everyone who is involved with social media does it effectively.
To be honest, I cannot stop reading this book, which helps me broaden and deepen the knowledge of how to maximize the benefits of social media. In fact, when I am confused about some problems in building my blog or other social media accounts, the first thing coming to my mind is to Google the answers. However, now, New Media Driver's License Resource Guide, like an encyclopedia, could almost answer all the questions in my mind, and more important is that it has filtered the information from results I Googled and tells me the best one. Also some examples in this book give me a direct impression about what top 10 blogs look like or the way to solve political issues by using twitter. Anyway, I like this book very much, and I definitely believe that it will be my “New Media Dictionary” not only used in my future career but also being the part of my life.
I’m practicing almost every part of social marketing and SEO during New Media Driver’s License course. The New Media Driver’s license is really a great resource and tool book. It is a guidance not only for my homework, but also a good reference for my internship experience. While I was monitoring the Google Adwords for a new online master’s program in MSU, I refered to the book and follow the tutorial video. And after 2 weeks monitor and practice I indeed see the improvement in the conversion rate reflected by the increasing applications. Therefore, I must recommend the book to all the social marketing starters!
After reading the New Media Driver's License Guide, I have come to the realization that a blog is not just an outlet for an author to share their opinion. Their opinion does not matter if nobody can find their blog through search engines. This is why SEO and optimization of blog posts are so important to creating a successful blog. Google can become a blogger's best resource if they allow themselves to utilize good works and links in the blog. While my blog's optimization was quite cumbersome to set-up at first, I now realize how resourceful it can be for my readers. I look forward to gaining more readership in the future through utilizing proper optimization for search engines like Google.
When I started this week's assignment, I randomly googled the key word and saw tons of different "tips". It will be lots of work to read all the search result and conclude the workable way to optimize the search result for my blog. However, when I felt frustrated and opened the book New Media Drivers License Resource Guide, all the questions I searched in google found answers here!
The New Media Driver's License Resource Guide has a lot of really useful resources to help you with anything in the digital marketing world. It's definitely a book worth keeping after the course is over for future reference. This week's assignment has thrown a lot of new things at me. Optimizing my blog is completely foreign to me. It's taking a lot of research to figure it out. I'm sure when I'm done with the assignment I'll be much more comfortable with the material.
SEO may seem like some sort of alien language at first, like it did to me but it's really not after reading and learning about it. I wasn't sure if it would be worth it for me to go through all this trouble to build a blog, write posts and titles that optimize the views and track my blog too, but after experiencing it there is a great payoff for doing this. All these learned strategies will stick with me in the future when I need to optimize my website for a business. The New Media Drivers License Resource Guide introduces great examples of how and what to do. We are all trying to become media stars, the more we utilize this book and practice the greater our chances of becoming media stars.
This week our task was to optimize our new blogs. Initially, I was very confused and had no idea how to go out about doing this. After reading the New Media Resource Guide I felt more confident and like it was something that I could accomplish. The SEO section of the book proved to have very helpful hints that I used when I was trying to attack this weeks assignment. Thanks to the help of the book and with the help of my peers, I think I begun to successfully optomize my blog, Quotes To Live By. Overall, I think that I have gained a lot of knowledge in the Social Media realm after reading both books. At first I was frustrated going into assignments and not knowing what to do but after you solve those problems and create good work it is really rewarding.
The whole blog related assignment seemed really intimidating... Actually, I never thought of optimizing my blog before I started this class. I consider myself enjoying blogging but not caring about promotion. But after I started looking into the SEO rules under the guidance of the book, I found it amazingly helpful and useful. This book contains a lot of information, and as said, it is "a valuable starting point" for one's social media success.
Way to go students. Glad you like the book so far. If you are happy with The New Media Resource Guide and David Meerman Scott's books, please feel free to review them on Amazon. It's a great way to suggest that others should read the book, and Amazon is a good place to build a personal profile for your personal brand. You would be amazed how high personal Amazon profiles show up in Google results. Keep on readin :-) And remember if you want to link back to your blog from your comment, you can add a link right in your comments.
The task of optimizing my blog initially seemed very intimidating. Since reading The New Media Driver's License Resource Guide, I now have a better understanding of how exactly to go about it. I have recently learned how to build links to my blog, analyze blog traffic, how to properly use terms and phrases throughout my blog i.e. search engine optimization (SEO), etc. I am now using the website links from the resource guide to improve my blog, understanding of digital and social media, and potentially career skills. This book has provided me with a great deal of information, and I am excited to see what I learn next.
I agree!! When I first started this weeks homework, I was very intimidated! After reading the New Media Resource Guide I have learned a lot of valuable information! Did you create your blog on Tumblr, Wordpress or something else? I found that creating my blog on WordPress was a lot easier to make external links for and also add the facebook like button.
The New Media Driver's License Book drove me bananas at first having to go back and forth between the web and the book. But after watching the video Did you Know 4.0, I was hooked. Having links to check is a great way to extend the lessons in the book about new media. It makes perfect sense considering the book is about blogging and it represents a blog. The guide is very informaitve and I hope that my optimization because of the tips in the book brings many more views to my blog soon.
This book is very helpful in all aspects of social media. I too, am still lost in trying to optimize myself and my blog but will keep researching and trying to find the best possible way to optimize myself and my blog as well. This book has very good guidelines on how to do pretty much everything I have ever heard of in regards to social media. It is almost like a tutorial and gives you any information that you might need. Even though social media continues to rapidly change, this book is very up to date and gives good tips how to start and enhance any social media profiles that you might need to.
Wow, I'm really glad you made this post- It's awesome to see what a killer blog post looks like. I didn't realize how effect the links could be. It makes perfect sense to make the reader refer back to your blog as much as possible and to place them in places where it makes the most sense. I think that I have been consistently improving my blog posts and I have learned tons from the New Media Drivers License Guide. I hope to keep improving and learning more!
I agree this book is very helpful in terms of guiding you through new media marketing and all that goes with it. While this book is useful, I am still having extreme difficulty optimizing my blog. From Google analytics to keyword phrases, this is all a foreign language to me. I plan to keep researching in order to further optimize my blog and build links back to it to gain more recognition. I am finding this assignment to be extremely confusing, so hopefully I can continue to use the NMDL Resource Guide to successfully complete my blog optimization.
"The new media resource guide is the perfect book for anyone who wants to learn digital marketing, and gain hands on real knowledge with new media marketing."
That statement is not a hyperbole--combined with David Meerman Scott's The New Rules of Marketing and PR, I'm learning immensely about digital marketing, PR, SEO, and other topics that will help me in my future career. I was struggling with my blog optimization, but this post also helped resolve my confusions by giving an example of optimizing a blog post. Definitely worth reading, and I'll be checking out the radio interview, as well.

The New Media Driver's License Resource Guide is a great companion book to David Meerman Scott's New Rules of Marketing & PR. It is unique in the fact that it provides links to multiple resources to give anyone who is a visual learner a great way to see exactly what the book is discussing. I love that it caters to both visual elements and text-based elements. For anyone on the cusp of starting their own business, revamping their current business, or beginning social media marketing, I suggest indulging in this read as it provides crucial insight into the ins and outs of various social media sites.
