This is a great example of how to optimize a blog post. Notice the title of the post has keywords. And there are strategic links and keywords that point back to important items. The more times we can get links back to our web sites, the better. So when you build your blog as an emerging new media star, you want to be sure you tell Google exactly what is on your blog. And then you want to build links back to your blog. In fact, when you comment on this blog - that is a Follow link back to your blog. In fact, here is another great site that teaches about Do Follow links - which is what you want when you take the time to build links back to your sites.
How is your blog optimization coming along? Hopefully better after reading the New Media Driver’s License® Guide.

I am on a vacation/business venture in Singapore because my business partner and I have found a market for foreign furniture. Similar to Hagopian, this sort of furniture has intricate fabrics, hand-carved wood frames and hand dyed fabrics. The United States market for intricate and foreign furniture has a potential to turn around interior design. Knowing that starting an international business is going to be difficult, my business partner and I have decided to open a google adwords account and are going to start opening up blogging website regarding the furniture. I was talking with a manufacture and he with discussed with me that in order to make this work we need to have an optimal and efficient internet marketing plan. Taking this class is going to give me the "know-how" knowledge to effectively start this business in the right direction.
The benefits of reading this book are endless because it holds valuble information that can be applied to everyday life and social media use and digital marketing among other things. The breakdown of the book into smaller sections allows for you to find exact information you are looking for. Every section has a link to websites and additional resources that allows you to get hands on experience and further information if desired. Personally I am more interested in learning about social media so I have taken the time to check out these additional resources. Whereas business connections is an area that I'm not as interested in so just a basic information section is enough. This book is definately not just a textbook used for class it is a real life resource that holds a ton of applicable information.
I am a proud owner of my very own copy of The New Media Driver's license Resource Guide, and I could not be happier with it. It is broken into many parts so it is very easy to come back to as you want to reference things. I found it to be so helpful in the process of enhancing my own personal brand image, and I'm sure it will forever be helpful to me in doing so in the future. There is so much wise knowledge in there of any social media platform you could possible by in the dark about. I thought I knew a fair amount about an array of social media platforms, but this book proved me wrong. Especially in the world of blogging. I have come to find out that me and my personal blog have a long way to go, but with the help of this book I am confident I will succed.
This book is an awesome resource and I am really glad I own a copy. As an advertising major, this book offers great tips for the new medias. As the advertising business relies less on the traditional forms of media that every professional knows how to use, we start looking at new media forms many of which the current professionals are not to comfortable with, and to be honest some young professionals and students do not know how to effectively use these new medias to promote and help businesses. It is resources such as this book that really help us get an understanding of how to effectively use social media, that we use everyday to update people about our lives, as a way to help businesses get closer to their consumers and even their business partners. For example, until I read the first section of this book I did not know that there were actually specific hours and certain days of the week in which people are most active on Facebook, I just figured that everyone, especially people our age, uses Facebook at all times of the day randomly throughout the week.
This book is a really important tool for anyone, especially any business, looking to use any form of the internet to promote themselves.
I have really enjoyed this book so far. I like how that it is written by our professor, it adds a little something else to the course and learning each of these topics. I thought I had a good understanding of social media, but I was wrong and never thought I would be trumped by someone not in my generation. It's good to see that older people are understanding how to use social media. I feel that the book is very user friendly and that any age can benefit from using the text. Overall, I'm interested to see what is still to come.
I learned in my other advertising class how to create and launch your own mobile application. The application website is msu.cliqlaunch.com, it was a pretty easy process with the help of a few people but overall I considered it a beneficial experience. Considering how effective and efficient mobile use is these days, generating revenue over one billion dollars, some students will find this effective if they have small business or needs to monitor traffic on-the-go. This application website allows you to link your blogs, websites, twitter or whatever you need to link to eachother, and it monitors your traffic as well.
This book is very interesting. It gives me a lot of information and is very helpful while doing our assignments. It touches on every topic we are learning. For instance: social media, blogging, social networking, Google, online public relations, Internet marketing, and accessorizing social media: design and action. This resource guide also helped me optimize my blog. It gave me multiple ideas on what to do and not to do about writing posts for my blog. For example, not writing to long of sentences with more than one comma was mentioned in the book. It also explained how optimizing my blog would allow more people to find, read and follow it. Optimizing your blog puts it higher up on the Google page if the viewer types in certain key words or phrases. In other words, this book by Richard T. Cole and Derek Mehraban is very helpful for this class and assignments.

My blog optimizing is slowly coming along. I am having a slight problem using Google Analytics for my tumblr. But, that's an html problem...
I think SEO will be something that I will continue to analyze and adapt as my blogging grows. I don’t think I have full grasp on it, but will continue to see what I can do to take my blogging to the next level using SEO, and help get more readers to my blog.
This book is very interesting. I've found some great snippets from articles and resources in it to help my blog in almost every aspect. Now the trick is just utilizing the knowledge! But, to be honest, the idea of this as a "book" strikes me oddly. I mean it has so many links, and sites to find more information. I feel like a easily navigable website, or ebook would be most beneficial for this type of resource (for resources).
I really enjoyed reading the New Media Drivers License Resource Guide. It's pretty cool that the authors are our actual professors for the #NMDL class. That being said, there are so many resources that are provided in the book. It is interesting to see how all of the new media is helpful to us as consumers and students. I agree with other students who have mentioned that it would be cool if the book was available in e-book format. With having a Kindle, it would be so easy to just click on the links that are available in the book, for a faster way to go through all of the resources. I really enjoyed using the Google Analytics on my blog this week, because I am always interested to know how many people actually look at my blog- and now I can. It's amazing that Google can come up with software that allows us to see how people got to our site and where they are from. I feel that this kind of information and technology will definitely help us once we begin working in the advertising field.
I have really liked the book so far. Although I thought I was a pretty decent social media user, this book still taught me a lot. I feel that it takes a pretty thourough look at the tools we use every day, and helps us to know how we can use them to our benefit. It helped me to better understand facebook, twitter, and Linked-in. These tools have been in my life for several years, but I never really thought of how to use them to market myself. This book gave several insights. I feel it can really help people to optimize their online usage to see the best reward for the time that they put in to online social marketing. I look forward to the insights from the rest of the book.
This book is definitely adding value to this course and hopefully to my career. I was already very knowledgeable about social media and how it can impact marketers, PR pros and digital marketing but for someone who knows nothing about this, it can be a great start and very helpful. I like it and I think it is worth the money.
I really like the textbook for this class. It is broken up in a very "user friendly" way so that I know what the next few paragraphs are going to be about. Seeing as how I have had a Facebook account since high school, I am going to get extremely bored reading about what a Facebook profile looks like. This book is almost set up in levels from beginner to advanced, making it easy to skim the basics just to refresh myself and then spend more time reading the more in depth topics. I also like that there are brief synapes of articles I can read more indepth if they peak my interest. Looking up one interesting article from the NMDL book lead me to a few other related articles online that were very interesting as well.
I have found the NMDR Resource Guide to be very useful to me. I have learned a lot about different social networks that I was never aware of before. It has helped me to be able to use these social networking sites to their full potential. I have also never really attempted to market myself through social networking, and the Resource Guide has helped me to understand how to do so. Without the Resource Guide, I feel that my process of blog optimization would have been much more complicated. Before this class, I was not familiar with the term Search Engine Optimization at all. By reading the Resource Guide, I have become more familiar with the process of optimization. I have gained useful knowledge regarding how to use my blog along with other social networking sites to market effectively.
Honestly, I don't really like how the book is layed out. Way to many resources, and references. To much information, yet not not enough elaboration. This guide seem to point out the obvious, and teases us to look it up ourselves. On the up side, the book does review some interesting facts like what areas of the media you have to pay attention to and which areas you don't. The book would be more helpful if it was laid out like a step by step program. I'm grateful for the book, but yet still wonder if I would have even took another look at it if I weren't assign too. Maybe as the book progress, different doors might be opened and I might have a different perspective about it. Unitl then, I'll keep reading it because I have too.
So far I am really enjoying this New Media Resource Guide. I am learning a lot about the world of Social Media with tips for Facebook, Blogging and LinkedIn. Through reading these chapters so far, I am learning a lot about optimizing my presence on the web. I am an avid facebook user, but Social Media and New Media is much more than facebook and I know I am going to have to make myself found on the web more in order to gain more of a presence. In the chapter about LinkedIn, I enjoyed the mention that this social networking site is about building credibility and connecting with people on a professional level. I look forward to using LinkedIn more and using it to its full potential to help me find a job. I am looking forward to using this resource guide to help me navigate through the new world of social media!
I found this guide to be significantly helpful in introducing each Social Media/Networking site, with the perks right off the bat. It was refreshing to understand further into the social networking tools I use multiple times a day and how to truly maximize the benefits of each. The guide was particularly helpful in maximizing my blog's SEO by helping me understand how to become a better blog writer and how to market it more. (Hit the link for my blog's Google search results) Foursquare stuck out to me, mainly because I had never used it prior to this week’s assignment. It was enlightening to learn about this innovative social networking tool and it's ability to influence locations of people. “It’s Friday.. Where is the party?” Well, once I get my friends using Foursquare, I'll know.
So far, the New Media Driver's License Guide has been a great resource in helping me understand SEO for my blogging experience! I am excited to read more in this book and hope to expand my knowledge in the social media world. Also, from what I have read so far, this information is laid out in a easy-to-comprehend format. Very excited! Thank you!
As I said in my homework assignment, this resource guide is just chalked full of links to information that is honestly really indispensable. I’d really like to see a book like this in an e-reader format because it would really be nice to be able to click on each link. I think it would also be great if you pushed students in future classes to read this book alongside our David Meerman Scott book right from the beginning because of the nature of how this book should be read. Overall, I’m just glad to have such a great resource!
Literally this book is a great reference out their for all of us new to the social media world. The resources inside are valuable to help make a emerging star a social media god. Making sure and using the term “ all roads lead to Rome” is exactly how social should be utilized. This book points all the ways to create your rockstar image.
The New Media Driver's License Guide has been extremely helpful for me as I take my first shot as a blogger with the help of this class. I manage the blog at my internship and for a group that I'm in, but building a blog from scratch and even thinking of a theme were way more difficult than I had anticipated. Using the resources from this class and playing around with WordPress has allowed for me to have a better grasp on all that goes into building a blog. The chapter in this book about blogging and the resources provided were what I looked to with this week's assignment on building SEO-friendly content for your blog. I have a very minimal understanding of SEO, so I imagine that the section of the Guide on SEO will really help me and hopefully improve my skills.
Honestly, I always thought that I knew may way around the internet. If I wanted to find something, I could. The book is easy to read, and I feel that a lot of the ideas that have been brought up in the book are relevant and very easy to understand. The only thing that I was bummed about is that this book wasnt available on kindle, or any other reading app! And as much as I love the smell of books, for me, it would have been easy to have on my iPad, that way I could also have it on my phone if I ever forgot my iPad at home. Along with the idea of being in a digital format, it would have been helpful when looking up articles that were listed in the book. Either way the book is beneficial and I look forward to attain SEO skills!
I completely agree. There have been numerous links that I wanted to visit, but to be honest, I was too lazy to type in. I've visited a few but that number would have increased substantially if I were able to click on them. An e-book is a must!
This book is by the far the most resourceful book that I have came across so far. The New Media Driver's license book had a very precised and detailed with short clips of resources that we can refer to online. It is a bit frustrating when I get really engrossed into reading a resource and had to stop halfway to look it up online! Either way I loved it thoroughly, and it helped me understand SEO better than what I have learnt so far. It is so much easier than what I have percieved it to be at first. When I attempted to complete the homework before reading this book, I misunderstood the steps making it far more complicated than it really is!
The New Media Driver's License Resource Guide is exactly that; a guide. Unlike other books that just throw information at you without any sort of reference point or structured outline, this resource guide takes you on a step-by-step, easy to follow informative journey that you can relate to your own everyday new media needs. The material is all relevant based on relevant examples and uses of the subject matter. Page after page, you leave wanting to implement strategies and techniques to your own unique brand and uses of social and new media. Blogging and maintaining a site is all important, but it's the little thing such as optimization and organization that can really make a difference when the effort is made and attention to detail is given. It all pays off and The New Media Driver's License Resource Guide can really help pave the way to viral success.
I love the content of the book----social media, online marketing, public relations and such things. That's why I built my professional blog around those topics. And in reverse, I use the content of the book, especially Chapter 2, to optimize my blog. That's interesting. Another thing is that I really love the outer resources that this book provides. I believe it could give us more practical perspective to the new media area. But just one suggestion: Could you provide an e-format of that? You could imagine what a huge project it is to type all the web addresses.
This book is a very helpful resource. Being in college we have to buy so many textbooks; many we end up not even reading. We then go on to sell the books back and feel like we wasted our time and money. During my time here at MSU there are a few books I have kept that I feel would be useful to me in the future. This book, “The New Media Driver’s License: Resource Guide,” will be one of those books. Reading this book there is a lot I feel isn’t relevant to me right now but I feel will be of great assistance in the future. For example, SEO is something this book really helped me to better understand.
I thought this book was really interesting so far. It definitely helped me to think outside the box when it came to optimizing my blog posts. Instead of just using the standard buzz-words for the shows I would recap, I can tie in other pop culture references into the posts that can relate to the shows as well. I figured it would be informative since the authors are very knowledgeable, but they are also surprisingly good writers. They aren't just PR writers, they actually tie along the book so that you feel like you're not actually reading a textbook. I look forward to reading the rest of the book as the class progresses because I think it will have a lot of good tips on promoting my personal brand as it claims it can.
Really like the New Media Driver's License Resource Guide. It's opened my eyes to a whole new way of looking at the web! I think the thing I like most is that it contains an immeasurable amount of material via the resources. You could literally spend an hour researching each and every one if you wanted to, and they'd all be insightful!
I was pretty surprised at how good of a book this is. That's not to say I didn't think it would be informative, but rather I didn't think I would enjoy reading it as much as I do. This book reads like a story more than a textbook. It keeps you interested and breaks down social media marketing in way that is very easy to understand and retain. I would definitely suggest this to anyone who is looking to learn about new media marketing and advertising, or anyone who is looking to boost the amount of followers their website has.
Not only is this an interesting and enjoyable read, but it's packed full of highly useful and insightful information; I certainly wouldn't have been able to do my homework this week without it. The resource makes you think about the simple--and certainly more complex--things you can do to make internet marketing, SEO, and social media that much easier.
Coming from someone who thought they knew quite a bit about these topics this before the class, this book has opened my eyes to what it really means to be resourcesful online. I'm really looking forward to finishing the book, and I can't wait to see what else I'll learn!
The New Media Drivers License Resource Guide is the kind of technical reading that appeals to a poet's soul. It's short, sweet, and to the point, while packing tons of actual information into the posts. I found the title of Resource Guide to be completely appropriate - it guides the reader to resources that help would-be webrepreneurs grow their online presence.
The New Media Driver's License Resource Guide has everything you need if you're at all interested in Digital Marketing and Social Media. The resources listed in this book are useful for anyone, and interesting to read about! It covers absoultely everything from Facebook to Foursquare, how to use SEO and Social Bookmarking. It also gives the basics of good web design and using YouTube, PPC, SEM and more. The chapters are divided in a way that makes it easy to follow along and not get overwhelmed by all the information provided. I can't wait to finish the rest!
I tried optimizing my blog before I checked out the articles in the book. I made sure to use keywords and use specific post tags and everything. I thought I had done a good job. Once I had read the articles listed in the book I put the book down and had a good laugh at what I had done. I proceeded to change almost EVERYTHING that I had done and add in so much more.
Most of my previous knowledge on SEO came from a Mashable article or two, and what I read in David Meerman Scott's "The New Rules of Marketing and PR". From doing the assigned reading (and skipping ahead to chapter 7) I got a much better understanding of SEO. Maybe not so much how it is used, because I had the gist of how it is used. I got a good feel for why it is used. How Google works and why SEO techniques actually work. And once all of that clicked, optimizing my blog became a lot easier.
I agree with some of my fellow students in regards to the fact that I believe this book should be in an e-format. I found the constant links underneath each heading to be distracting and it also does not allow for easy web access. The web links were long were hard to re-type into the web address bar.
In regards to utilizing the book to help optimize a blog post I believe I was able to learn important information. I am new to the blogging scene so I believe any information in regards to how best to optimize your blog and be able to increase web traffic to your blog is helpful. I liked how the headings were very helpful and informative. I knew where to look for what information I was trying to find.
Having so many resources in one place makes it easier for me to understand social media. I am starting to become a blogger. I downloaded the Tumblr app onto my iPhone and can upload pictures, posts, quotes, and links from anywhere. It is convenient and fun – allowing me to add mobile uploads to make updating my blog easy.
I never thought I would be the type of person to have a blog, let alone update it daily. It is nice to be able to have something on the internet that showcases my interests. Since reading the first six chapters of The New Media Driver’s License Resource Guide I have a better understanding of how to blog. Becoming a better blogger gave me more confidence to explore what Tumblr had to offer and implement it in my own site. I now know how to tag my content which allows more people to access my site after searching for common interests. So far it has increased the traffic onto my site. I plan to continue to build my blog and create content. Hopefully I will begin to see my hard work pay off by gaining followers!
The book The New Media Drivers License Resource Guide has so much insight into social media and digital marketing. Its an easy to read book that really started to help me understand how important it is and how many different aspects of social media there are to cover and really get to know how to use. Since the world is becoming all about social media and everything is becoming digital this book is a great easy to read resource guide to help!
The New Media Driver's License guide is a very easy read, especially after reading the first book. There are plenty of topics and information in Chapters 1-6 that have improved my understanding, so I can only guess that there will be plenty more. It's very well put-together and the links that are available for us are an awesome aspect.
And also here's my blog! It's funny stories, videos, and pictures that I compiled.
When we were reading the previous book, I thought it was very helpful with our lessons. I'm feeling evenmore so now, with the New Media Drivers Lisence Guide. I love that we have links available to us that function as external resources for our assignments. The book is also really easy to read and understand. I definitely think that the section on SEO helped me understand what you were looking for us to do with our blogs.
Hey guys! I just wanted to let you know that I started writing a blog called HattieHattrick. It's a blog where I write about three topics, that I choose, about things in any given week. If you got some down time check it out and give me some feed back!
I have never been good with technology and especially with all these diiferent websites that I am starting to learn about. Facebook was the only thing that i was fimiliar with before this class, and I wasn't even on that very often. So far this book has taught me a lot about blogging and hoping that it will continue to do the same with everything else.
The New Media Driver's License Resource Guide actually has helped out quite a bit when I need a reference or tips for optimal blogging. Not only has the book been influential in any successes that I have had with my blog, but it has been an intrical resource for many different topics. I like how the book specicifally lays out the topics and then dives deep into each of them in order to help out any skill level of blogger. I thought that my blog was going to be hard to manage and set up, but this book has "held my hand" and helped me achieve my goals. However, I believe that the better book is "The New Rules of Marketing and PR."
I was thinking about the assignment today and I was surprised how I was able to visually see all of the social mediums that I have set up simultaneously word as I posted new blogs in my wordpress profile. It was pretty significant because I inferred that I am able to control and monitor all my profiles without having to open a ton of tabs. The philosophy of desire really allowed me to have fun with this assignment because this is a topic that I have been diving into for a long time.
The format of this book definitely rocks. It's easy to flip through to the section you want to learn more about and check out the individual resources all at your fingertips. It is certainly more of a reference guide than a book, but titles aren't important. What is important is the powerful information and content packed inside, and this book delivers. It has been a great springboard for me so far and I plan on continuing to use it to develop new media skills. Even into my professional career, this book with prove useful and particularly navigable so that I can check back for help any time. If any of my friends are ever looking for an excellent guide to social and digital mediums, I will definitely reccomend that they pick up this book.
Although I did learn a lot in the other book, the format of this book is definitely easier to read and less intimidating. I love how there are short segments full of information as well as helpful websites under each section. Because I am new to blogging, this book is perfect for help with assingments and directing where to go. I was having a lot of difficulties figuring out how to do this assingment but with this book I was able to tie up all of the lose ends. With social media and networking becoming as popular as it is for business and for pleasure, this book is essential to knowing the ins and outs of this topic to help you master this new phenomena.
I was originally looking forward to having my own blog and keeping up with it but I was having trouble with remembering to post on it and how to optimize my blog. There are so many resources in the New Media Driver's License Guide book, I can tell this is one book that I'm not going to be selling back to the book stores at the end of the semester! I like this book more and I feel like a lot of the skills I'm reading in it will be very beneficial / relevant in a future career and for my summer internship. It truely is a resource guide and is on top of everything in the social media marketing world which is awesome for me because I will be going into public relations which is highly built on social media these days. I look forward to finishing and rereading this book!
This week I read the assignment and started trying to figure out what SEO marketing is and how I am supposed to use it in my blog. I wish I would of just went straight to the book. I went to the chapter about SEO marketing and found a lot of helpful links that helped me better understand the assignment. I do think the book is very helpful, but I agree with some of the other students when they say it should be an ebook. With so many links and articles it would be easier to already be on the web and be able to just click on the link.
While reading The New Media Driver's License Resource Guide, I couldn't help but feel that it would’ve been more appropriate in an e-book format. While there is the link listings available on the website for the book, I feel that it was a bit distracting to have to go back to the computer while reading to find an article I wanted to follow up on.
All that being said, however, I found the book very helpful thus far. The length of descriptions of the various resources seems spot on, and gives me a pretty good idea of whether it is a resource I would be interested in reading further. I find the book very interesting overall, and not as taxing to read as most required reading tends to be. I’m sure this book will continue to be a valuable resource moving forward.
I was surprised to learn how helpful this book is. I thought the book with theories and examples of social media. It turns out to be an outstanding resource book. The book to me is is like a GPS to a new driver. I am happy with the book because it lists all kinds of information related to the latest topics. Most important part here is the book helps me to solve real world problems in terms of blogging and social networking. I love this book and will keep it at hand as a tool book.
The New Media Driver's License Resource Guide is easy and quick to read while providing you with valuable information. You learn how to strategically promote yourself and/or your company better. One of the big tips is using SEO on your website and your blog posts. One of the unique features I like is that under every section there is a website to view an example or to gain a more in depth understanding of the author's point. You can tell the writers put a lot of time and effort into this resource guide, which means it's not just a bunch of filler words to fill pages. Every page offers great tips and strategies. All companies and individuals that want a presence on the Internet should read this.
Do you have ebook link for this? I can't find any, and the link provided connects to a real estae ad page. And the version the business library offers is way too old.
