So here you are with the task of building your social presence. Many of you have a social presence, or you have accounts on social sites with the goal of connecting with your friends and communicating. Some of you may share photos on Instagram, chat with your buddies on Kik or Snapchat. And Tweet away to stay in touch and banter on topics with people around the world.
In this class, we hope you will share some of the good things you are learning on Twitter using the #NMDL hashtag. I also encourage you to Tweet your profs - @3pointross @grahamdavis @mehraban and @davezillia or the class Twitter @msunewmedia. Keep the conversation going and it will help you develop some good social habits, especially for Twitter.
So as you build your profiles and expand your horizons, I'm curious what you like or don't like so far about this course. What social network are you curious to try more and explore?
My guess is some of you would benefit from Linkedin. It's a great way to get work as you graduate the university. Remember to connect with your teachers here as we have many contacts in the real world, that can help you get a job. I also encourate you to connect and Tweet at Michal Lorenc of Google, who is not teaching this class now, but has taught in the past. He now teaches a YouTube class and Google AdWords class.
Good luck in your first week. Make us proud with your compelling profiles, and enjoy the class. Oh and be sure to cheer loudly if you're at the Breslin Center on Saturday night. Go Green!
Comments & Feedback
Since this article has been published, one of the social media profiles that I have truly been working to develop is my LinkedIn account. LinkedIn within this past year has been a great tool for me when connecting and keeping in touch with employers and mentors. I've noticed my habits have transitioned to checking my account daily instead of weekly or biweekly now.
This article is a very insight post about how to create meaningful social media profile. Even though this post is a little old it is very still very insightful and after going through a few weeks of this course I definetly have learned how to make a more meaningful profile.
I randomly opened this post after commenting on the Ello post. Using social networks on promotion is a simple and hard thing. This semester I tried to corporate with department of promotion in CSSA, and I really learnt a lot from them. Every post are sechduled, both texts parts and the creative parts. All promotion are connected, facebook, Wechat, Sina weibo,Renren and CSSA website. Not just social newtworks, the database management within the group is also hard. There are 4 different databases they are using to target different groups of people. I can see from this how important social network is in promotion, especially for thoes groups who are not able to pay for a tangible promotion. But still, I also found the the effect from social network promotion are strongly influenced by the quality of the social network management. Copywritters and air directors are only parts of it, the overall management spiced up or pull down everything.
I would like to know more about how to utilize LinkedIn as a new college graduate searching for a job. What can I do beyond connect with those who I meet and follow companies I'm interested in. I think LinkedIn is a toold that could really be utilized by all of us if we understood it better.
This class has been a great help to my online social presence. My existing Facebook and Twitter accounts were getting dusty, and I hadn't completed my LinkedIn profile yet. Thankfully, this course motivated me into developing my old social media profiles, and pointed out other sites to pursue. "Google This" is another great aspect of this class, beause it is intersting, useful, relevant and easy to understand. Our first readings taught me easy ways to improve my social media sites, and demonstrated the importance of developing my online communication skills. I also like the way that ADV 420 requires us to search for relevant content ourselves. Searching for intersting sources helps me understand what styles of writing I want to incorporate in my own work.
This class has taught me the importance of ‘social presence’, which is having your profile on social media such as Linkedin. I wanted to delete my Facebook but I feel as if now that I am applying to internships (in Los Angeles) and they will be skeptical if there is not a social media platform for Facebook. The most valuable thing I’ve heard is, success used to be about ‘what you know, then it was whom you know, now it is what people know about you’. This is why social media is so important.
Social media makes the world go round, at least in the 21st century. I have been invoved with social media to a very limited extent until i started this class. But I have already seen the benefits by creating my linkedin, i have already connected with alot of former and present co-workers. The emergence of the elderly americans to social media is what really amazes me. They may not have a full grasp on the concept yet but they try very hard to communicate to their friends and loved ones through these new sites. They all have the status but they have been doing a good job of diversifying the sites by small status updaters, or just pictures like instigrm and tumblr. These will continue to be a sdtaple in new almost every facit of our daily lives. We just need to apapt and use them to our best advantage.
This course is constantly changing the way I look at social media platforms. I knew there were many businesses on Facebook and Twitter but never really understood why I would want to follow them and what it could do for my future career. Within the past few weeks I’ve followed some of my favorite corporations and am finding it very beneficial. I’ve followed Leo Burnett Careers and Doner Careers. Both advertising agencies post full-time, part-time and intern positions they have currently available.
I will continue to connect with professionals, teachers and businesses on LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter. They more ‘business related’ my social media platforms become the more I have to think about the content I am posting. I tend to think, ‘is my post something I would want a company to see if they search my name’.
I like this course because it is allowing me to see the big picture behind social media. I understand that, if used correctly, these platforms could help me get a job in the advertising/marketing industry.
I appreciate you showing us the ropes of social media. You always hear people say watch what pictures you post and tweets you send. Being able to use social media as a professional resource is a great tool. LinkedIn is a site I'm a member on however I don't know how to utilitize the site for all it's worth. LinkedIn can be valuable in job searches and keep professionals connected and for a young professional, it is a must. I look forward to learning the ins and outs of social media for professional use. Internships and jobs all look at your social media so you must be mindful of what you post and what your social media sites say about your precieved value to a company.
I think it is great that you are offering help and advice on making connections in the work force. It is so important now a days to broad range of connections in many different areas because you never know when you can help someone or someone can help you. I enjoyed working on blogs this week because I would have never thought of starting my own and I really enjoyed doing it. I’m excited to work on LinkedIn and learn the best ways to market myself through my social media outlets.
"So as you build your profiles and expand your horizons, I'm curious what you like or don't like so far about this course. What social network are you curious to try more and explore?"
I like that ADV 420 is an unconventional class (compared to most of the classes I have taken at MSU) that teaches about hands-on, real world subject matter! I'm thrilled to learn all the ins and outs of blogging. Since last fall I started reading and watching more websites for how-to's, recipes, and news. I'm really excited to finally have an excuse to start my own blog! I use the word "excuse" because I'm quite introverted in respects to the internet; I just really value my privacy!
As someone who started interviewing for post graduate employment at the end of my sophmore year in college, I've trained myself to limit or avoid social media and set the privacy settings to the maximum allowed level. I deleted my twitter when I turned 22 because I felt like 22 was too old to still be tweeting. How ironic that I take a class one year later that requires its use. I can understand requiring the creation of a linkedin profile, but I dislike the facebook, twitter, and google+ requirement.
I have had a Facebook and Twitter for years but I just recently made a profile on Linkedin last year. I have not been very active with my account so I am happy that this class has helped me with that. I look forward to learning how to create a blog that will generate feedback. I also want to learn how to create a social presence from a professional standpoint.
I've had a LinkedIn for about a year now with a complete profile, but would like to utilize it more for finding internships and jobs. Also recently I had an interview using Google Hangout, so I would like to explore and use more of Google +. I didn't know much about Google + until I had to build a profile for this class and use it for my interview. I think it could also be beneficial for my future similar to LinkedIn!
I've been saying for months that I needed to create a linked in before I enter the professional world. I was very excited when I found out that was part of our first assignment because it gave me that extra kick to get it done. However, I found it to be way more confusing that I had originally thought. I thought it would be easy to make connections and to edit my profile and right now I seem to be struggling. Hopefully it just takes some getting use to!
I had no Idea what linkedIn was for before this but I am really excited yet nervous in finding out that it is for business. It seems like it could be extremely useful but its definitely intimidating looking at other profiles that are so well developed. I dont feel like I have anything impressive to put on mine, but that motivates me to work on it. I look forward to building a continuously more impressive account!
I found this first section of reading very beneficial especially the LinkedIn post, which I wrote my homework post about. I am looking forward to learning more about each form of social media throughout this semester. Previous to this class I had Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn accounts and am interested to learn about blogging and other forms of social media. I believe this class will be challenging for me but very beneficial.
Until this lesson I have not had a LinkedIn. I love social media and find myself on it way more than I should be, but never realized how helpful and great this website actually is. I took time to really reflect on the work I have done and where I want to go and found myself completely distracted by going on different people's and companies' profiles. I want to learn how to more effectively use LinkedIn and I would like to expand my knowledge of Facebook. I feel as though because we use it so often we forget about all the benefits and resources it has.
With a class filled with mostly upperclassmen, I believe almost all of us already have an active LinkedIn profile. With the fright of finding a stable job in an economy like today's, many of us have already begun the steps to take advantage of linking-in with professionals in our chosen field.
However, I think Twitter is used for the contrary. Scrolling through my twitter feed, I can find friends' posts often pertaining to obscene actions, thoughtless gibberish or foul language; nothing of which a future employer would care to read. I think making a focal point in NMDL on this subject would be highly beneficial and action provoking. We all know how to use Twitter, but do we use this social media outlet with professional intentions?
I thought I knew a pretty good amount about social media, but now I know there is a lot more to learn! I am really excited to see where all of this can take me and to try something new. I am very interested in working with Tumblr and our class blog. I have always read blogs and thought they were really unique, but did not think I could make something that good. Now its an assignment, so better late then never! I am also very fascinated by how businesses effectively use social media, using all sites, from Twitter to Tumblr. I am a hospitality business major, so I want to see if I can take some social media platforms that are not used in that sector and make them effective and worthwhile to use. I am hoping to gain a big repetoire of social media knowledge and then to pass it on.
Social media is somewhat of an enigma to me. I find it both exciting and overwhelming and hope that this class helps me develop strategies for ways to manage all of the different tools. I find it difficult to set aside time to keep on top of all of the latest and greatest ways of communicating and I appreciate the fact that this class will push me to improve and expand my online presence. There are still a few pieces I am apprehensive about. I have yet to tweet and am still trying to grasp the concept of microblogging. I know it’s not necessary (or possible) to read or respond to every tweet or post, but on days when I can barely keep up with my inbox, the thought of monitoring additional modes of communication are a bit worrisome.
I've heard nothing but great things about this course and I'm very excited to see the outcome of all of my work, as well as hear my peers’ opinions. Social media is growing into everyone's life in one way or another, whether we like it or not, and I think it's important that our generation stays on top of the game. I think it's especially important to be knowledgeable in different social media outlets trying to jump into the field of public relations. I’m eager for the blogging we will be doing – I’ve personally put this on the back burner during my college career because I’ve been unsure what topic I should engage in, but I’m excited to get started now!
I am looking forward to working with this class. I have heard from many former students in the class how important the information is very useful and important. Social Media is a growing part of everything we do and I am excited to learn how ins and outs of networking though it.
I have heard so much positive feedback about this class. I look forward to expanding my knowledge of how to use social media to my advantage. The one platform that I would like to know more about is LinkedIn since employers are constantly on it looking at our profiles. I just recently received a social media internship for a company called Girls on the Run. It is a program that teaches young girls to be confident and healthy. I had to create the Facebook and Twitter accounts. I hope to use this class to boost their social media presence. Honestly, I have never created a business page on Facebook. At one of my previous jobs, I was in charge of posting daily and controling the page but never to improve the business through social media. I would really love to boost the awareness of this organization because of it's great message to young girls. Also, I hope to learn more about blogging. I know the basics but I would love for my blog to become famous and have numerous readers!
I am very excited to be taking this course and look forward to working with all the new media outlets. Social media is such a growing part of all businesses and a great way for a person to market themselves. I am most looking forward to working with LinkedIn because I know how important it is when looking for jobs and keeping working relationships. I don’t know much about Google+ so I would like to learn how to improve my profile and make connections with people.
The reason I signed up for this class was because of the great things I had heard about it. A few of my roommates had taken it last semester and just raved about how much their social media skills improved as a result of what they had learned while in this class. I can honestly say that I lack confidence on my social media sites. I am excited to expand what I already know, and learn more to further grow the limited skills that I currently have.
The social media sites that I currently use include, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Pintrest. I use Facebook and Instagram the most. Having access to these outlets through my phone allows me to check them multiple times a day. I use my Pintrest often but not nearly as much as Facebook and Instagram. I used to tweet quite a bit, but lately, I haven’t been on twitter very often. I haven’t noticed myself getting much out of it so I just don’t see a reason to get on the site. My hope is to learn new and innovative ways to utilize these sites to reach their maximum benefits. The site that I am most excited to learn more about would have to be LinkedIn. I haven’t taken advantage of the networking that LinkedIn connects you with. My hope is to learn to use this site effectively and learn how to properly interact with the contacts I make.
I've heard it from many professors--"just because you know how to use Facebook and Twitter doesn't mean you are experienced in social media." After this class, I'm going to be able to say I know how to use SEO to enhance a company's awareness. I'll be able to say that I not only have social media accounts, but I'll be able to use them to benefit a company or a brand. I'm looking forward to blogging as well, because it's always been something I've thought about doing but never followed through. I have a Pinterest, but am looking forward to seeing the marketing potential that it has. I've only used it recreationally. That goes for Youtube too. Also, Google+ is awesome, intuitive, and much more like facebook than I thought! I'm looking forward to learning about a subject that I am passionate about.
I'm looking forward to this course because I think it will improve my ability to utilize technology as I pursue a career in advertising! I'm familiar with Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, but really feel I could improve in LinkedIn, Pinterest and Google+. I think this course places importance on adapting to a world that is very dependent on technology, so I'm glad I will have the opportunity to adapt to this type of lifestyle. Bettering my skills with social networking sites will improve my professionalism and help me stand out in the workplace. As graduation quickly approaches, I think it will be helpful to appreciate and gain knowledge about media on all platforms. LinkedIn I think is especially beneficial because it really allows you to share past experience and connect with other work professionals. Since many of us will be graduating soon and looking for job opportunities, being able to utilize these sites to broaden connections and nail down careers will be a very helpful tool!

I would have to agree with Derek! About two years ago I created a Linkedin profile not knowing what it was about. A year ago is when I really started to get involved with Linkedin and used it a lot to connect with employees where I interned at. The more and more I use Linkedin I see how much of a benefit this could be for my senior year. Having a strong Linkedin can create important relationships that may one day turn into a job. I think anyone in the business world has to be on Linkedin to get their name out there to employers. I also found it very helpful to follow companies I would potentially want to work for. There is always a time to get your name out there and Linkedin is the perfect place to do it. One social media account I am not too familiar with is Twitter. I have had Twiiter for quite sometime but I think I am using it the wrong way. I barely ever tweet and when I do I am usually am just responding to other people. Also I do not like the content that is presented on Twitter. Most of Twitter is people complaining or saying random things. I would like to find a way to make my twitter more professional maybe even increase my chances at a job.
I'm excited for this course. I've heard great things from past students and am eager to implement what I learn from this course into my social media presence. I am engaged in most social media outlets including facebook, twitter, instagram, linkedin, google+, and pinterest. Most of my profiles are completed on all of those outlets and I utilize them on a regular basis, except for google+.
I’ve had my facebook account since middle school. I appreciate that it allows me to stay in touch with old friends and people that I grew up knowing. The downside to facebook however is that I feel it has made things so impersonal. People that I graduated know what’s going on in my life, even though I haven’t talked to them in years, and vice versa. Most of my facebooking now is using the site for groups such as clubs and organizations, as well as group project collaborations. Facebook has become sort of a necessary evil for me. I’m sick of it, but feel that we’ve become so dependent on it that I can’t get rid of it.
I went through a phase where twitter was heavily used earlier in college. I liked that I could connect with only my closest group of friends on there and appreciate that I can look back at what was said on there years later. More recently, I’ve been using Instagram more frequently. It serves all of the same purposes as twitter and facebook, but I like the ease of use and being able to scroll through pictures of friends and updates.
My hope is that through this course I will gain insight on how to more effectively use them. Currently, I just blindly follow friends and connect with my close group. Ideally, I'll begin learning how to interact with people that I'm not directly connected to. There are so many various ways to relate and discuss with people online and I'd like to take advantage of that.
I've been using Facebook since high school and usually use it to keep in touch with friends and family that I don't see very often. However, I've been able to utilize it for some class projects and other groups I'm active in at MSU so it's a great communication resource in general.
I've had a Twitter for a few years now but rarely tweet anything, mostly because I don't feel the need to share my thoughts with the online community but I do like using it as a source for news and popular culture. I'm hoping this class will help me be more comfortable tweeting, especially using it in a professional aspect.
I've developed my Google+ profile as instructed for the week, but I have to admit, I'm not too excited about it yet. It seems like just a variation of facebook and I don't really want another one - the Google+ profile definitely has some aspects about it that I haven't seen from Facebook but for some reason it isn't really compelling me to use it the long run after this class.
I, ike 90 percent of any other college student-body, use Facebook and Twitter all the time. I think it's a great way to connect with friends and now it is becoming a great tool in the professional world. Before this class I had a LinkedIn, but made it randomly during a boring lecture, whoops. After the first assignemnt I really took some time and updated everything in my LinkedIn profile. I edited all of my information and started connecting with professors, co-workers, students in the orgainzations I'm affiliated in, etc. I can easily see how useful of a tool this will be when I enter the professional arena. Someone I network with during my time at Michigan State could end up getting me an interview to my future job! I really want to work on bulking up my LinkedIn and getting it work-force ready for when I graduate in 2015! I'm so excited to learn new and practical lessons in this class!
I am intrigued by this course, and although the lecture was long, I enjoyed hearing from each of the professors. I am currently on LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook and look forward to utilizing and learning more about Pinterest as well as becoming an influential blogger. I am looking forward to engaging myself in the course and reading more online articles related to improving social media sites and keeping up to date with current events on a higher level. Receiving an email from one of the professors with more specific details on which assignments are due that week would be helpful with understanding the course more fully at the beginning. Can't wait to get started!
The two forms of social media I use the most are Facebook and Twitter. I recently got an Instagram for winter break, but I am way behind in learning on how to use it. I was forced to make a Twitter account during my freshman year at Michigan State. It was for JRN 108, and we were encouraged to tweet our questions that we had DURING class using #JRN108. I thought this was a very interesting concept, and back then, I didn't even know what a "hashtag" was. Everytime my professor said that word I questioned why she didn't say "pound" key.
I use LinkedIn, because during my internship this summer I learned that everyone around me had one. I didn't want to feel like I was falling behind to my peers, so I made one and within a week I already had over 100 connections. Endorsements are a great way to get noticed by a business, especially if the person who endorsed you is a reputable person in the industry.
Before this course, I never had a LinkedIn. I am a senior at MSU and I never knew how or what to put on a LinkedIn nor really knew what the benefits were to have one in the business world. As of a few days, I already have 22 new connections and have expanded my connections to my MSU professors. Last semester I took an extremely beneficial course at MSU that allowed me to have a great professional relationship with my professor and now we can be connected on LinkedIn and in the business world. I think it is a great idea to connect with professors because they can open doors and help link out to others with you in search of a career after graduation, by developing a good relationship in marketing in the classroom but also staying in touch and being able to communicate in a professional manner on LinkedIn is brilliant. This was my first week on LinkedIn and i've already learned a lot on developing my profile and getting in touch with great connections I already have, as well as to expand on new connections I could get in the future through this media site.
I am rather familiar with both the Facebook and twitter sites. I use the sites at a personal level right now, but as I search for jobs and start my career I think it is important to know how to use them in a professional manner. Although I am familiar with twitter, I am not a huge fan of tweeting about my persoal life. I enjoy Facebook because it allows me to stay involved in friends lives that I do not see often.
I have had LinkedIn for over a year, but recently updated my profile because I am looking for a summer internship. I think it is important to make as many connections as possible because you never know where a job lead may come from. I never think to connect with my professors, but now that you mention it, it makes complete sense!
I heard about this class from a few friends of mine that did not have the opportunity to take the course, but they still highly recommended it. I have used Facebook since I was in high school, and i recently got a Twitter. I am not very active on Twitter, however, I think it is very entertaining, especially during big events like the MSU vs. UM games or the Grammys!
LinkedIn has been a social media site that I have had, but never really used or kept up-to-date. I am excited to start using it more in this class to utilize it's full benefit and to help me in my professional career.
Google Plus is also something I am looking forward to playing around with. This past year I have become a large fan of Google Drive for being able to access all of my files when I need to, so I am interested to see what Google Plus has in store for me.
I believe this course will pose to be a very valuable resource to help me improve my online presence and help me in my professional career as well.
I want to start off much like Jeff did below me in the comments by saying I am excited for this class. I envision this being a great elective that I will find interesting and equally useful! Social media for the last several years has strictly been a way for me to stay up to date with what is going on with my friends. Within the last year or two I have started to realize the value of social media when it comes to prospective employers. It serves a twofold purpose by allowing a company to paint a picture of the culture that it stands for while also allowing a company to get a glimpse into the type of person they are recruiting. Having profiles such as Linkedin created in a professional manner will only help in expanding the opportunities we have as professionals. That is why I enjoyed our first assignment and look forward to learning more in the upcoming assignments.
I have been using Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for years. Before this class I did not have a LinkedIn and am so intrigued by the network. I find it extremely professional and I think it is an excellent business tool. Although it will take time to get used to using these new networks, they are very user friendly which helps. I also started using Google+ which I think is pretty great. I actually am not sure why more people don't use it as much as other social media networks. In my opinion it is a combination of everything good in social media, however it is just the beginning and my theory could change.
A new social media profile I made was about.me which is a useful way to connect with others that similar interests while at the same time, linking back to all other social media outlets.
In this class, I really enjoy the way that we are given guidelines but at the same time we are given the freedom to elaborate and look further into information within New Media that we are specifically interested in. It makes the course even more exciting.
I just want to start this post by saying that I am extremely excited to be taking this class. I have multiple friends who have taken it, and I have yet to hear anything negative from their experiences. Personally, I am a huge fan of social media. Most of the time I use FaceBook and SnapChat, but I have recently been beefing up my LinkedIn game with graduation right around the corner. I think that this class will do a great job with teaching me how to maximize my social media presence, and to get me into the sight of job recruiters. I am curious to see how my experience goes with Google+ and Twitter because I am pretty new to using both of them. So far this course has been very informational and is definitely preparing me for a stronger on-line presence.
For me, this class is out of my comfort zone, because to be honest I really do not enjoy social media. The only profile that I use consistently is Facebook, and that's just because I've had it for so long. This class is definitely broadening my knowledge because now that I had to create a LinkedIn and Twitter for class purposes, I will hopefully learn how to use them effectively and won't dread being "constantly connected" anymore. The thought of having my information all over the internet still doesn't necessarily appeal to me, but I realize now that is essential for someone who wants to work in marketing or advertising- you should probably know how to market yourself before you can market for anyone else! I enjoy the aspect of having profiles on the NMDL website- I think that this is a more personal way to connect and network with classmates who are interested in similar career areas.
I have used Facebook since high school, and have been on Twitter for a little over a year or so. I am most intrigued to learn how to effectively use LinkedIn as a career networking tool. I was familiar with the site before, but hadn't personally created a profile until this week. I am hoping I can develop a profile through this course that will help me promote myself as a young professional. So far in this course, I like the idea of having all students develop these profiles. As most in the class are seniors or even graduate students, I think gaining skills to help develop a "personal brand" will prove valuable moving forward past graduation. It's nice to be in a course more focused on real world application of learned skills and not based on lectures and exams. One thing I wouldn't mind seeing is an easier way to find our weekly assignments. I'm sure I will get better as I use the site more but I initially had trouble finding this week's assignment.
I had heard a lot of positive feedback from my friends and wanted to check out the class. Thus far I have really enjoyed it! I believe that I will be able to create a good brand for myself through social media. I previously had a LinkedIn account, but this class helped me to build upon it and advance my knowledge in what the capabilities of the website can do. I am also very pleased that we will get to create our own blogs in the class. I believe that having a blog will help me during job interviews. I look forward to exploring more social networks and expanding my social media skills and knowledge.
So far I am really liking this class. I can already tell it is going to be a huge help in the social media department for me. I have a twitter and facebook but not a LinkedIn. I am glad that this class is making me get one. Its not that I didnt want one before, I think I was just lazy and didnt want to take the time to create one. I want to explore Google+ just because I really dont know much at all about it. You mentioned on the first day of class that everyone who had a gmail account had a Google+ and that was news to me.
I am a little confused about our weekly assignements. I have watched the videos but I think it will just take time for me to get used to all the things we have to complete weekly. I have a couple other classes that are doing all their work online so I think it will remind me to keep checking this website to make sure I have completed all the proper things before Monday night.
I love that this course pushes us to further our boundaries in terms of our profile on the web. Sure, everyone with a facebook and twitter account can say they use social media, but how many can say they have a popular and informative blog, or that they are well-versed in Google Analytics. This is the type of social media experience that companies and employers are looking for, so I love that this course pushes us to expand ourselves. Admittedly, my Linkedin profile is very weak right now, so I would love to also use this course as a opportunity to learn about building it and expanding my network through Linkedin.
I personally am excited to set up my LinedIn account and begin connecting with people who can help me find a career job! I have heard how important a LinkeIn account is for years and have been meaning to make one since I came to MSU. Now i will finally be able to get one set up and begin connecting. Iv'e had facebook and twitter accounts for several years now so I am definitely familiar and engaged in social media. Very excited to see what else this class will bring.
I am not a big fan of social media even I am studying advertising at school. But, I still understand the importance of social media, so I often try to read advertising-related news through Twitter. What I heard these days is that Instagram is getting more important in business market, so as a result, Instagram growed over 20% last year only. I heard that this rate is the highest among other social media plaforms. So, This makes me curious how they turn millions of users to use their product while consumers still use Facebook and Twitter. Even they have pc-version of Instagram now, I remember that their service have started from mobile application. I barely started this class, but I hope we can learn not only about Facebook and Twitter, but also many other trending social media service such as Instagram and Pinterest.
I'm very excited about the possibilities and opportunities this class presents, but I am nervous about the specific requirements of weekly assingments. I would be more comfortable if their were some sort of list (haha, lists work well in everything) that I could check off tasks so I could know exactly what I have completed or not.
I love building my profiles up on social media. I love creating myself online.
I have some experience using LinkedIn for business settings, but I am excited to learn how to utilize all the functions of LinkedIn and social media to market myself. I feel there is great value in modern media for job searching. I am hoping to leave this class with a new branded self-image and a skill set I will be able to advertise to potential employers.
I have been slowly converting my twitter over to a more “business etiquette” appearance and less of a one direction conversation. I am glad to see we will be using it to communicate with each other and would like to learn more about conducting business with it.
The New Media Driver’s License course is often talked about from various groups of people. When it came time to create the best schedule for my last year at MSU, it was obvious that ADV 420 needed to be on it. Alumni from all over told me that this course could be the deciding factor between me and someone else in the job field. I am ready to build a positive image of myself through branding. I am excited for what this semester has to offer.
I am very excited to build my own personal brand. I use Facebook constantly and post on it regularly. Twitter is my weakest social media site. This semester I will do my best to venture more into the world of Twitter. It appears that a lot of the younger teenagers use Twitter. LinkedIn will be the key to my professional career. I am happy that we had to update our LinkedIn accounts because it seems that I hadn’t really given my profile the look it deserved. I am genuinely excited about it’s new facelift!
A few years ago I started a blog. I blogged regularly and acquired many followers. My blog went viral. I wish that I hadn’t stopped writing in my blog. People were emailing me for advice and I even guest blogged a few times. I am looking forward to getting back into the swing of blogging. My blog might just get me discovered, kind of how you and the other professors were saying at the seminar!
I like this post. To be honest, I didn't feel that your social media profile will be important before I took this class. But now I feel I start using those social media and start looking at my teammates profile to know more about them. I've never think about this in my home country. Everything they noticed are from the paper work you turned in. But now I feel that your empoyle will look at your Linkedin or your facebook account to learn more about you which is really interesting. So I am going to start using these social media and try to make a great pofile for myself for sure!
