Thus far, this class has been very similar to MI 301, in the sense that it allows students to familiarize themselves with the process of bringing media to market across multiple platforms, aside from your're typical broadcast, cable, satellite models. In MI 301, we focused on industry structure and distribution methods, pricing and repurposing of content. It was an indepth look into media consumers and their behaviors, but this class allows me to essential be that consumer for one particular brand and investigate those experiences to provide a better product. I've never focused on one particular brand and how their content varies from each platform. It's been very fun and interesting to cross examine consumer patterns and get a full understanding of a particular marketing strategy. The first two weeks of class have brought certain topics full-circle for me and I appreciate it more.
Analyzing and researching my brand, Moosejaw, has really opened my eyes to a world I had never really paid attention to. I have always recognized the kind of advertising and branding that Moosejaw uses, but I never gave it a second thought. Having to write about it really made me realize how much work goes into branding and grabbing the attention of the right audience. Another thing that really stood out to me was how Moosejaw really tries to create a relationship with their customer. They strive to become friends with people, straying away from traditional marketing language, and try to connect with people on a personal basis. This strategy really fascinates me.
So far, I've learned a lot about the advertising side of social media, instead of the side that is used for fun, which is what I normally use it for. The thing that has interested me the most so far is targeted marketing. I think it is so interesting that platforms, such as facebook, can allow brands to choose exactly who they want to see their ads. Every time I see an ad on facebook now, it makes me think about how I am exactly who that brand wants to talk to. It makes me want to look at my friend's facebooks and see if they are also what these brands want to see or not.
Thus far, I have learned the vast amount of work and effort it takes in creating a sucessful brand. This class has taught me to look at each social media site with a new perspective. There are many social media outlets but each outlet is slightly different in order to adhere to the demographic target market. Facebook has shifted to an older generation demographic. In order for a brand to be sucessful, the company must alter the message in order to cater to their audience. I have a much better understanding about how brands use new media to target specific audiences. I have also learned how quickely a brand can be tarnished through social media. If a company does not have an easy to use social media page it created brand confusion and its users receive a bad brand perception.
So far, the lectures and assignment has helped me understand the amount of work that goes into working with a single brand. I'm also learning a lot more than expected on social media accounts. I am an advertising major, so I have had to anazlye brands multiple times in classes, but with this class I am learning how to look at the brand from a different perspective. I really enjoyed learning about my brand through social media and its marketing. I think it's interesting that I was able to learn even more about one of my favorite brands just through its many social media accounts. I have a better understanding of how brands use new media to target certain audiences. The amount of work behind a brand's media is a lot more detailed and extensive than I used to think. I think this class will help me find a path toward a career that I like or am interested in.
I am very interested in new media though it is not my major. So I would like to learn more knowledge about new media when I take this course as my elective. The new media influence people's life every day and that already became a mode of life in modern society. The knowledge of new media also became a kind of competitive power in career path.
When I first added this class I was excited because I thoroughly enjoy using several social media platforms. It’s interesting to see how companies and organizations are strategizing to effectively use social media. With millennials gradually gaining more purchasing power it has placed a greater emphasis on effectively navigating social media. In our first meeting I learned that 81% of millennials check twitter each day. So far, I feel like I am gaining more understand of each platform which will translate into a stronger image for brands or my personal accounts. Another aspect I feel more comfortable about is content marketing. I found that my brand uses content marketing regularly. Using online detail from their videos, and social media posts have been an effective tool to specifically inform their consumer base of their large variety of product. I’m excited to learn more about what each kind of online of social media outlet has to offer and where they are trending in the near future.
As I am getting more knowledge from studying one single brand, I actually have a bigger concept of how broadcast works on social media platforms, especially for those fashion brands. Since I spent lots of time studying my brand, I realize that I have a basic idea how brand often do to publicize their news and messages, how their choose their targets, and as well as how they approach the audience. More specifically, different social media plats contain different way of publicizing. As for YouTube, there are tons of videos that talk about the related products of this brand; however, on Instagram, there more pictures that help the brand to build its idea and image. Therefore, now I know that different social medias actually works in a different way for branding. This is just a tiny piece of what I have learned so far, but I believe, as the lesson goes, I will become more and more clear about how social media affect brands.
For me my goal is to become a social media manager for a fashion or beauty brand. So, having a brand that is a high end fashion one and looking into their social media has been really interesting. I learned how the brand is able to remain so high end but also appeal to younger markets and stay hip. The use of apps in marketing is something that never really crossed my mind and to see such a perstegious brand use it amazed me. I learned also about how truly important it is to organize posts in a certain way. Images, hashtags, and the message itself need to be framed a certain way and I think that's really neat!
I think that these days everything is based off of technology therefor it is important to have things that stay up to date with technology. I think it is important that most stores make an app because people use their phones more than ever these days. I think that people like easily accessible things and the easiest way is if it is available on their phones.
The most important thing that I learn so far is I realized why people willing to buy the product from ASOS. And social media is influencing people every day. And for different social media, the company has different strategies to advertise their products.
This class has been the most helpful, thus far. I have learned some interesting statistics about various social medias as well as how to create an in-depth analysis of a brand's social media pages. This knowledge has helped me learn how to create a social media strategy that will be impactful and garner results. I am already finding ways for my brand, Vera Bradley, to improve.
I've gained a lot of knowledge and insight thus far about social media and the reputation it brings to a brand. I had never visted the website Moz before, I have learned a lot from the blog about data analytics and social media. This class brings of lot of information to the for front for us to take in and embrace. I've learned so many things thus far I look forward for what else is to come. I'm slowly gaining perspective as to how important a social media strategy is for the brand. I selected the Detroit Pistons and have become very familiar with their social media outlets and how they use these outlets to keep fans and consumers in the loop of what is happening within the organization and the day to day statistics and highlights of what happens during the games.
Some things that I have learned throughout this project that I was excited to find is that many companies fully run their social media sites personally, and do all of the interacting with thier customers. I found that when a customer comments or has a problem, many times the replys that are being given are personalized to that particular customers individual needs. In result to this personalized approach most customers see value in their business with that company and become loyal, or find themselves understanding that brand more.
The most important thing I've learned is to not let my assumptions be what I beleive are facts about how social media works. I mainly understand how my generation uses social media, but how other age groups don't have the same behaviors or patterns. I realize that I chose my brand, Under Armour, because I am in the demographic of their main targeting efforts. I hope that as I learn more about how my brand appeals to other age groups outside of my own.
Throughout our homework assignments I've learned so much about the usage of social media for a brand. Although that statement is general, I was really fascinated to read this weeks articles about optimizing your social media platforms. I never realized there can be such a big difference in user bases from one platform to another. I had no idea Pinterest was 72% female, or that Google+ was 2/3 male. It's information like this that can be so obvious, yet so impactful to the way you promote your brand. I hope to learn more about my personal presence on social media, and how I can optimize it socially and professionally.
Thus far I've learned a tremendous amount about Inbound Marketing. I'm really excited about this particular subject for many reasons - it'll help me further understand social media marketing, marketing personas, and not only finding leads, but turning leads into customers. As recommended in the first day of class, I completed the Hubspot Inbound Marketing certification, which was a very informative and helpful course. I learned so much in that six hour certification than I think I have in all of my college courses, lol - but seriously! I am excited to put this material to practice not only in this class, but in my future career - wherever that may be. I've learned marketing personas are so much more than just a target audience and the research needed is far greater than I ever imagined. I am starting to see trends in my brand research and becoming more aware of why they chose certain content and social media platforms. Understanding these reasonings behind not only my brands marketing, but marketing in general is a fantastic learning experience and I can't wait to see what's to come.
Growing up in a generation filled with social media I have always found it fascinating and I knew it was something I wanted to learn more about. This class has been a great way to expand my knowledge and understanding of various social media marketing strategies. Researching my brand, Urban Outfitters, and reading the articles linked to our assignments I have discovered a lot about social media that I did not know. For example, certain content does better on certain social media channels, it is imperative to interact and engage customers, and that more females use social media than males. I have learned about how important demographics are to a company and choosing how they brand and what social media mediums they will use. I have enjoyed learning everything about how a company creates a brand and using social media to raise its brand awareness. I now look at social media in a totally different light.
Something that excites me is how quick a social media app can gain popularity. It is interesting to think that an app like instagram, which has only been around for a little over six months, can become one of the most widely used and well known social media apps. It holds true for other popular social media apps and sites like Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, etc. I beleive it has largely with how well you can market the app and the content it offers. Social media has become one of our world's most important services, all while I have been alive. It has been exciting to ovserve it.
Understanding how companies use social media to attract and build relationships with people has always been interesting to me. Social media is a way for companies to interact and keep people entertained. With the company that I picked I enjoy seeing how they take the audience behind the scenes to show things that are not normally seen on TV.
When working on the homework, I have learned a lot about the techniques that different companies use to advertise via social media. In addition to looking up social media campaigns for the brand I am using in class, I have also been looking at some of my favorite brands. One specific Facebook page I became fascinated with was the Starbucks Frappuccino page. I thought that it was very smart to create an individual page dedicated to just the Frappuccino. If Starbucks portrays a product as being a big deal by designating an individual page for it, consumers will also view the product as a big deal. The advertisements are very creative and are fun for people of all ages. The bright color schemes draw attention and make people think happy thoughts while looking at the advertisements, therefore leading people to associate Frappuccino’s with happiness. I look forward to continue observing creative cheery ads, and look forward to some day working on my own creations!
From the begining I know social media is very important in any brand and this is a oppertunaty for me to see different comercial from differeent brand. I can see how beautiful and how beautiful the design is. This is a very important area in the company and it will spend a lot of money on online media ads. I can know my brand better from this class and I become more like a fun of Pandora. _From Zijun Hu
I have always known that social media is a very important part of a company, especially for our generation. However, I have learned that some social media services work better than others. I am curious to see how a company goes about figuring that out and if they are right most of the time. I am also interested in learning if Twitter is something companies are still interested in using.
Thus far I've learned about the importance of social media use and the ways that it can affect viewership, company attribution, retention, and overall profits. I've learned that company comparisons and demographics shape the ways that companies go about social media use and that it is not a universal subject where one size fits all or one media is the best choice for all companies. I've learned that Facebook being the size of the third largest country in the world makes it an efficient and cheap way to advertise to many millennials and people over the age of 65.
Going into this class I knew that social media was a great tool companies could utilize to build their brand, but I didn't know how important it could be, and what all goes in to using and finding the right social media for a brand. I have learned that not every social media outlet is right for every company. For example, if you are a company who is targeting the older generation, twitter and instagram are probably not your best tools to utilize. Facebook is the most common social media outlet used by the older generation so you will hit more of your target market by using Facebook vs. Twitter. I also learned a lot about how to analyze a brand based on what they put out on social media, which has been very interesting to learn about and utilize when researching my brand.
It was interesting to see how to set up, and provide proper step by step improvement for startup companies. Not only providing a theory about how it works, with actual companies and screen shots, I learned how the company dealing with customers.
Before this class, I had no idea what went into having a successful social media account. With my brand being Gatorade, I have been able to do a lot of research on their social media accounts. After reading this weeks reading, I was able to connect the data collected on social media accounts and Gatorade's social media accounts. This was exciting to learn about and now when looking at other social media accounts, I will probably always analyze the content posted.
Having grown up with social media, it was never something I put much thought into, it was just something I skimmed through when bored or used to keep in contact with people. Of course, I have always known that companies utilized social media and digital tools to help advertise and promote their brand, however, I had never analyzed the ins and outs of what they do to target customers. This class has opened my eyes to the time and effort that goes into digital marketing strategy and social media advertising. As someone who wants to work in social media as a future career, I am very interested in what this class has already taught me, and what I will continue to learn throughout the semester. I now have a clearer picture of the vast possibility involved with advertising on social media and digital media in general, and I can really see the importance this plays in our modern, technologically-advanced society.
I have learned many things from this class and my brand so far. I have learned how important social media is in marketing your brand. Social media is huge today, so it is vital that companies utilize their social media well. I also believe having a effective marketing strategy is important, especially when growing a new business. Combining a good strategy and social media can really boost a business. My brand, Kylie Cosmetics, does an amazing job at promoting through social media. I love Kylie Cosmetics and all things makeup, so I am excited to learn more about a brand that I am passionate about.
Prior to taking this class, I understood the importance of social media to some extent. After one lesson though, I've learned so much more. It's crucial for every brand and every company to know what social media outlet is good for what. You must know what you're doing so you can relate to consumers on each level. Each medium you can use is different and if you don't understand that from the start, your brand will suffer more than it will succeed. The marketing strategy is equally important when it comes to not only engaging your consumers, but building that brand loyalty and trust. I'm excited to see what else I learn in this course!
Have learned the class until now. I choose the brand Burberry and i have research its social media. I see his way to spread his logos and understanding of fashion. And i learned for products, not only want to sell it. We may show its value and let people love it on advertising then we can sell it better
As someone who has had an internship in digital strategy, it was a nice refresher to hear the presentation given about digital strategy the first day of class. Another concept that interests me is search engine optimization. Seeing how tools such as Google AdWords can help companies make their presence on search pages, it is important to understand that ranking high on search pages is a constant competition between companies.
Since being in this class, I have learned a lot of new things that I think will definitely help me in the future. Ever since I started researching my brand I realized just how big of a role social media plays in marketing certain aspects of the brand. I also learned that having an effective marketing plan or strategy is very important when it comes to growing a business or company. I have really enjoyed researching my brand and learning more about it. I am glad that I chose a brand that relates to the type of company I want to work for because I can use the skills that I am learning when I get a job in the future.
I am an advertising design major; I want to have an own advertising agency in the future. This class lets I learned the social media propaganda is imperative to the market. Because in the modern life, people are using social media every moment, everyone has their social media accounts. This is an excellent advertising platform, as advertising marketing. In me, for I choose their brand, I think they have been very successful in the social media because you can opt to see.
As a Kinesiology major, taking this class is quite different for me as an elective. I love computers and social media, so this class has been really interesting for me with all of the things I have learned about my brand so far. Being from Chicago, learning more and more about the Blackhawks has been a great thing for me. I am happy with the hawks as the brand I chose, because I never knew how many social media accounts were out there for them, and really did not know how many followers they had. The main thing I learned from this weeks lesson was that social media helps the Chicago Blackhawks with their consumers and even their producers with all of their products. Everything is well thought out and communicated with on the hawks website and social media servers, and I think that is very important for a brand to have. It will not run smoothly unless it is carefully planned trying to reach out to all consumers.
In this class, so far, I have realized the importance of establishing a strategy as a brand to follow on all social media platforms, even branching directly from the website itself. I think that detail is important. The brand I chose to analyze this semester is method and it does this very well. The color scheme, tone and quality of images that it uses is impressively consistent and very in line with the look and feel of its website and, overall, its message. I would love to work on developing a company's creative strategy someday.
I've leanred a lot. The special things for this couse I enjoyed is the exploring process for a brand. I never take the class like this before. In the past, I always listen to professors' viewpoints about different brand. But right now it's my turn to find information & get conclusions for a specific brand. My brand is Victoira's Secret. All of informations come from the data. I have to use the data to give statements based what I found. In order to get closer to this brand, I checked again & again and looked at all of content in differnt social media platforms. All of my efforts promote me to have a clearly understanding for my brand.
I've really enjoyed a lot of the things I've learned so far, but my favorite thing I've learned is about Live Nation's exclusive content that they use on their socials, and also how ahead they are in terms of virtual reality (VR) content. They have a very strong relationship with the people that follow them because they post exclusive content from the artists that these people like.
Because I am in advertising creative major, I've never learn marketing's information before. After taking the class of ADV 420 first week, I felt very exerciting.
The first thing I learned is the social media helps a brand communicates with their consumers.
The second thing I learned is how a brand builds their image through social media and gives a brand's feelings to consumers.
I know there are a lot of marketing methods. I can't wait for learning that.
I learned a lot about Chipotle's social media marketing plan. The company heavily markets to younger generations through funny tweets and facebook posts. The company also tweets about 240 times per day to keep up with questions from customers. I've never heard of a company doing something like this and I found it to be very surprising even after their social media disaster.
As I've been researching my brand, the Anaheim Ducks use social media to directly engage with their fans, however social media is also heavily used for fans to communicate with each other. The Ducks heavily emphasize the importance of maintaining and building upon their current relationships. At games, fans can tweet using the hashtag #DucksSocial for a chance to have their photo displayed on the big screen at the Honda Center. There are thirty NHL teams within North America, so it is necessary to build a strong and unique community.
Something that I learned about Coca Cola that I hadn' t realized before was their target audience. I always thought that something like a soda could be marketed to nearly everyone, however Coca Cola aims to target individuals above the age of 12. I thought this was really smart, considering how many parents are concerned with their kids' health and well-being. I didn't think their website would hold much content, but that wasn't true at all. Coca Cola's website features an extensive amount of nutritional information, which would be helpful for parents and health-conscious individuals. Most people don't drink soda because they think it's unhealthy, and Coca Cola understands that, but still found a way to communicate effectively towards their target audience and make their soda appealing to all.
I think that what excites me, or suprises me most is how attentive I am of certain things after just the first day of lectures. For example, after following my brand on all social media platforms and checking in with their pages frequently, I start looking for similar messages across the page and see how they changed or did not change the message to fit the platform. Its like now I look at their pages differently, whereas before I just looked on as a fan. I also find myself looking at certain tweets and thinking what was the purpose behind that specific tweet? Were they trying to drive sales, create a relationship and so on. Now I dissect everything the brand posts and it's so weird to me. I didn't think I would be like that! Then it's so weird to think so hard about my brand, and then mindlessly scroll past posts that other brands make.
Although I have followed the Pistons on social media for quite some time now, it has been interesting to see how active they truly are now that I keep an eye out for their updates. I must have developed blinders to block out Pistons content before this class since they have been sub-par since I have been in elementary school. But now, even though the team is still not a strong playoff contender, they sure do act like it on social media. The team has done a really nice job with constant updates across all of their social media accounts to keep the fans informed and intrigued at all times. Never a dull moment on gameday with the Pistons snapchat. I look forward to seeing if the posts will stay the same or change if the team makes the playoffs!
I am enjoying reading materials and they are helpful. However, I noticed that all readings so far focus on US domestic populations and market data. Considering many brands/ companies target global markets there should be more readings about it, i.e., how they use social media differently or similarly to US populations? What different approaches are needed for US domestic vs. international markets? What if your company significantly depends on international markets and they want to hire someone who are familar with their target regions or countries? I would recommend adding more readings on global market trends to make our students more competitive.
I used to think social media as a tool to communicate with friends, and families, like Facebook, Instgram. I am so surprised that those social media platforms can be a business tool to explore the market. The social media market is so influencial now, even effective than tv, radios, especially when targeting on young people. For example , Topshop I am working on, social media is the most important way for Topshop to promote the new collection. Also Topshop encourages their customers to share the merchandise they bought on social media with #TopShopStyle.
This class has opened my eyes when it comes to a brands marketing strategy. I never really realized how much goes into a simple "tweet" or post. I have never had a class focus so much on a brand as this one does. I love the social media aspect of it all and recognizing the importance it all holds.
I agree I am also starting to realize how much truly goes into the small social media things in life. I realized that the smallest word can make a difference in who it will get through to in the audience. People are influenced in different ways by social media and when you are trying to gain different audiences it takes a lot to really come up with what to post or caption something.
After taking the time to research my brand (Victoria's Secret), I was really intrigued about how they communicate their unique value proposition to consumers, both women and men. I was extremely fascinated by how Victoria's Secret carefully employs some of the most beautiful women in the world to represent their brand. These Victoria's Secret Angels are the "face" of the brand, and the company is EXTREMELY selective when choosing who their next "face" will be. Victoria's Secret chooses models that do not only appeal to men, but also to women. The company chooses models that the target audience (women) can relate to. For example, I learned that one of the models is both a mother and a wife. In addition, the Victoria's Secret brand also selects models that are well liked by the public. While researching the company, I learned that the brand consistently turns down models that do not fit their standard of class and beauty. Overall, the brand does a fantastic job of communicating its key message to its target consumers: if you purchase Victoria's Secret lingerie, you will feel and look as beautiful as an Angel. The brand almost fulfills a sense of beauty and fantasy to their consumers. I'm excited to learn more about their different marketing strategies.
So far, I have learned a great deal about Tom's social media platforms as well as exactly what the brand offers beyond their shoe service. It is incredible how much Tom's gives back to the community beyond donating of shoes. I believe Tom's could be more vocal on their social media channels about their contributions - there is so many things I wasn't aware they did until I visited their website. I also myself am learning better blog content and set up.
