These days mobile is the hot topic in marketing hot topic, but like all trends it won't be the biggest growth area forever. There is a lot of speculation about "the next big thing," and the front runner is wearable technology. It makes sense, as wearable technology is very simmilar to mobile... only smaller and more specialized. The popularity of mobile devices can largely be attributed to the increased connectivity and utility they provide. Wearable technology can provide even more connectivity and utility.
You might be asking, what are some examples of mobile technology? The most popular devices would be the fitness bands like Nike's Fuel or the Fitbit. When users wear these devices, they track their activity levels allowing a better understanding of how one lives their life or reach their fitness goals. There's also speculation about Apples next big release being a watch and let's not forget about Google Glass.
How many of you are currently using wearable technology? If so, what are you using? If not, why not? Do you see opportunities for other forms of wearable technology?
Comments & Feedback
I do not currently use any form of wearable technology. Personally, I have not found any wearable technology that would be worth it to me to buy. However, I do know a lot of people who use wearable technology. My parents both use a Fitbit and my friend is asking for a Nike Fuel Band for Christmas. I do believe that wearable technology is "the next big thing". I believe, if done correctly, wearable technology could definitely start to take off more. The only reason I do not use it is becasue nothing has come out that I really want. Maybe someday I will buy some form of wearable technology.
I've recently been seeing more and more wearable technology advertisements. The "phone watch" is apparently an up-and-coming thing, but not for me and probably a majority of people in my demographic. I don't currently wear any technology. I thought bluetooth headsets were odd, and I get weirded out when people are walking and talking with their headphones in (when really, they're just on the phone).
I think discomfort and social acceptance are two side-effects of wearable technology.
On the other hand, Nike and Jawbone wearable health technology seem more practical to me because it's serving one purpose. I'm confused as to how a phone watch can actually meet all the needs a phone initially has for a consumer, and how thats going to fit and work on a wrist.
I am currently now not using wearable technoloy, nor do I think I ever will in the future. If I did wear any of the wearable technoloy it would be the Nike Fuel band or Fitbit because it is more for fitness and I enjoy running. I am not really interested in the Google Glass or the watch Appple might be releasing, because I have my phone and my laptop. Also, I do not want to spend money on it. I already stay too connected to my phone and I think if people get these watches then they will never be present in the "real world." People will be even more distracted then before. Another reason is I do not think these watches can compete with smartphones. They will be limited to what they can do, however smartphones are not. I think technology is getting too out of hand. With items like these watches coming out, people will never be disconnected from technology, which too me is a bad thing.
Wearable Technology is the wave of the future in my opinion. We see it in all the futuristic movies and tv shows, and now it's on its way. I think wearable technology is the next step in mobile device evolution. We are constantly whipping our phones in and out of our pockets; wouldn't it be nice if we had instant access to the digital world? Below is a commercial for the new Samsung Smart Watch. I'm sure you've all seen it already if you've been watching tv at all.
I love the way they did this commercial because it shows you just how much this idea has been tossed around, and for how long too. Ending the commercial is a woman in 2013, finally able to do what we've all grown up pretending to do when immitating our favorite tv characters.
Currently, I do not own any wearable technology as it is still being introduced, and therefore, extremely expensive. I don't have the money to be that cool yet. But as wearable technology grows and increases, it will become more affordable in time, and I will definitely utilize it in the future.
I see endless possibilities for wearable technology. I wouldn't be surprised if in the next 100 years, there will be a contact lens type google glass product. I can't wait to see what they come up with next.
I am currently not using any wearable technology. First reason being that it doesn't really pique my interest and it isn't essential to doing the things I want to do (like a smart phone is). The second reason being I don't want to spend the money on it - I am set with the smartphone, lap top, ipad situation I have going on over here. The first product I think of when I hear "wearable technology" is Google Glass - and honestly they freak me out. The number one turn off about Google Glass is that I think they look dumb - just like blue tooth looks dumb. Call me vain but that just isn't my cup of tea. I also think that Google Glass seems invasive - I'm on my phone enough as it is... The Nike Fuel bands are slightly intriguiging but I would never go out and buy one. It's just not where I want to spend my money. As for other opportunities for wearable technology, I could see Apple's watch taking off (so much less invasive than a pair of glasses). I think the key here is make wearable technology small, efficient and not cubersome. Google Glass can take a hike.
Currently I am not wearing any wearable technology. If I were to, I would most likely use the Nike fit band. I do not think I will be using wearable technology because I believe technology is controling our lives too much, and to have it constantly on you is too much for me. I see a lot of oppurnunity to wearable technology. If apple is really working with willow glass, I see an oppurtunity to get rid of the iphone and combine the smart watch with the phone. When you are not using your phone, curve it around your wrist for a watch.
Currently,I’m not using any wearable technology, and I also think that this kind of devices can never compete with smartphones to some extent. Compared with smartphone and other mobile devices, the functions of wearable device are far more limited, for example the Nike+ SportBand only focuses on tracking calories burned and steps during the daily exercise. While all these functions can be also designed as a mobile app, then you do not need to bring one more counting-step-electronic watch when jogging. What’s more, considering the advertising value, the wearable technology still doesn’t have advantage over smartphone. Since now all the people are obsessed with smartphones all day long (except during sleep), and somehow smartphones have already become a vital part of our body. Therefore, advertising on smartphones is the most low-cost and massive reach method because it doesn’t need extra device and it is ubiquitous. In sum, I don’t see a big future for wearable technology, but its niche might help to reach certain target market more efficiently.
Personally, I am not using wearable technology. I would say for right now, it's because of the fact that those products are very expensive for features that at this time, I don't really need. That being said, I think this will be the next big trend. We've become obsessed with having everything at our fingertips. Now, this might literally mean on our fingertips. I think the features of Nike's Fuel, and of course, the infamous Google Gloss, are fascinating and impressive, they just aren't something I need at this time. However, as this trend continues, I believe that features, uses, and needs will all be streamlined and perfected. Companies will find those things that are needed in consumer's lives and how to use this wearable tecnology to solve those particular problems.
I also think the wearable technology pieces, like the Google Glass, have been poked fun at a bit for their clunky appearance. This is something I also think will be simplified as the trend continues. I'm excited to see where it goes!
Wearable technology like the 'Nike fuel band' or Jawbone's 'Up' allow for a future of "Connected Health." Wearable devices allow people to track and manage their activity. If other wearable technologies are created that moniter other aspects of health, then doctors will be able to deliver more healthcare remotely. Imagaine, instead of people getting monitered only when they are in the doctors office, they have a self management and tracking system that is always monitering.
Health companies should take advantage of this trend of "Connected Health" and deliver other specialized health products.
I think that wearable technology is the way of the future. I personally have never used any device while working out besides my Ipod, but these new inventions look promising. One interesting note about the Nike Fuel, they have only released versions of it to be compatible with Apple's IOS system, with no mention of the Android platform. I think this is a big mistake, because even though I like the idea of the device I currently own a Blackberry which would not work. There are other competitors coming into the market which will probably take up a lot of Nike's market share that they left on the table by ignoring Android phones. Specifically, the Basis Band is an alternative to Nike that I would consider because it not only monitors workout performance, but sleep performance as well. With this additional feature and compatability on my mobil device, Nike is going to have a hard time dominating the wearable technolgy market for working out in the near future. I am excited about products like Google Glass and cannot wait to see what their developers come up with next!
I used or knew several wearable technology. However, I don't quite know about it. To me, it just some apps, like the What's Beatiful from Under Armour. Ross mentioned the wearable technology as, "when users wear these devices, they track their activity levels allowing a better understanding of how one lives their life or reach their fitness goals." What a new invention is the Samsung Gear. The Galaxy Gear runs a modified Android smartphone operating system. It is not a replacement for mobile app but works like a remote control that allow you to put your mobile in your pocket and doing changes without taking it out. The wearable technology improved from the smartphone, tablet, or other smart electronic devices. I am not using a lot wearble technology but I used to know some of them, the What's Beautiful and the Gear. Google glass is another product I knew about but don't own one. I heard about the Google Glass generates buzz to keep it work. There are many new wearable technology trying to get in the market but many critics see the future as potential but limited.
Wearable technology is cool. However, it is very hard to design a confortable wearable device that provides accurate results. For example, many of users comment on the Amazon that the Nike wristband is lack of accuracy because it only uses wrist pulse. I’m currently using the Garmin ANT+ heart rate strap to monitor my heart rate and calories while running. This product is the most accurate product that I’ve ever tried. However, it requires you to mount a silly strap on your chest with two cold electronic polar on it. It is not comfortable when using the strap. More over, despite the comfort issue and accuracy issue, the price is another problem. Think of the Google glass. It is a cool idea and 90% of my friends were interested in the product at first. However, when the price came out, almost none of my friends want the glass anymore. The idea to better understanding your body or additional recording functions that wearable devices provided seems not attractive enough for people to consider them, especially when the price is too high. All in all, there is a long way for wearable products to be successful. Thought the idea is great, companies should develop more comfortable and affordable plans, and people may need more time than they think to adapt the new idea.
Wearable technology is a great idea. I look forward to seeing what people come up with in the future. Currently I use the Nike+ app that tracks my runs. The distance, calories burned, and a map of where I ran. I really like the app, it motivates me to get up and run more and it is nice to see my results, or progress as I go. I have never heard of Fitbit before, but now that you mention it, I may just have to go out and buy that- it is definitly something I would use. The only questionable thing about wearable technology is the fact that your location is being tracked at all times, but thinking back to a previous blog post, if I don't have anything to hide then why would I care if people know where I am at all times. Plus, it would be nice for people to know my location incase of an emergency, like those rare events of people breaking down in the middle of no where. Overall, I can't wait to see what else the technology world develops, as far as wearable technology goes.
I am currently not using any wearable technology. I do however, think that it is awesome and a way of the future. Nike Fuel and Google Glass can do so many new things that I never thought would be possible on a wearable product. They have transformed to a part of your everyday life. I have researched Nike Fuel Bands before but have not decided if I would use it enough to purchase it. I think many new technology and ideas will come out in the future using the idea of wearable technology. I think technology is shifting in this direction.
I think wearable technology is awesome! It seems technologies evolution continues to attempt to get smaller or thinner. The idea of technology being so small and excelled that it is light enough and mobile enough to be worn on the human body is exciting. The article on the iwatch sounds interesting, but at the same time a little too out there for my tastes. Having a watch act as a phone or tablet doesn't soudn too realistic to me. If things start getting too small I don't know how that would benefit anyone, especially their eyesight. For fitness, sure it could be useful, but other brands like Nike have already presented that technology to the public and coming from Apple it looks like a copycat move. The Nike Fuelband or Sports watch sounds a lot like what Apple is trying to create without the unnessary addons. Then the Google Glass is probably one of the coolest things I've heard of. It may look funny and too futuristic for my taste, but it's functions are over the top and beyond cool. Technology moving forward this way will definitely have its opportunities. The Google Glass lets a person show the world what they see through their eyes, and if its from the perspective of someone who climbs mountains or does extreme sports, the view would definitely be exciting. I don't use any of this technology as of yet, partly because I don't have that kind of money to just buy the latest trend off the top of a hat, but as these things get invented and become more ubiquitous I would definitely be excited to try one out for size, and hopefully even own one.
I am not using an wearable technology, because most of it is still very new and I am usually not the type of person to start the new trend. I wait and research the products first before purchasing, and wait to see what others think of it to see if it will be worth the investment. Some of them I don't see the point in getting because they can the same thing as my cell phone and I am content with that product for now. Only time will tell if wearable technology will be "the next big thing".
I am not currently using wearable technology but I have been interested in getting a Nike Fuelband for a while because I am a runner and walker, I just can't decide if it's worth it or not and if I'd actually use it all the time. I think wearable technology is naturally where technology in our society is heading today, devices keep getting smaller and sleeker and it is becoming more and more necessary to have a mobile device on you at all times. This blog post is the first time I've looked further into Google Glass and the Apple watch, both of those products seem so cool, although I can't image myself wearing the Google Glass on a daily basis. Nike and Fitbit really hit the main wearable technology market, fitness and nutrition. I think tracking health and weight loss progress would be the most popular use for wearable technology.
Currently I'm not using any wearable technology. But I can still see the visionary and profound prospect in wearable technology. Not to mention the Google glass that we are familiar with, those sports wristbands like Nike's Fuel are sports fans' good buddy nowadays. Those functions like caculating the time, your vitals, play music are combined together into a small device that attach to your body. I have to say that was very convenient. I also heard about the wearable technologies such as a body language correction that is a small piece of clothing, or a wireless focus headset that could help you think faster. It sounds really exciting. But all those products are only conceptual or not able to apply official. Some people worry about the production costs, others may worry that there are some safety problems because certain technologies would generate harmful radiation to human body, which are also my concerns. So in spite of the bright future of wearable technology, I believe the developers have to solve those problems first to make them a good entrance into the market.

I didn't take any Wearable Technology currently, but I think that this kind of technology is a trend in the future. More and more people like to use this technology, espeacially for sports and excrise. Although it is not very accurate and still need to optimize, it provide a new way to help people and satisfy people's need. Google glass is an innovative product that attract a huge number attentions. This new technology focus more about people's feeling and experience, I believe people will use more wearable technology instead of other technology in the future.
