Consider sharing it with your friends.

Chances are, you've probably watched an online video today.

Or two. Or three. Or ten. You're not alone. According to YouTube, its viewers watch over 6 billion hours of video each month - on just YouTube alone!

You might have even made your own online videos. Most computers today come with some sort of video editing software (iMovie, Windows Movie Maker, etc), and it's even possible to edit videos on cell phones (which shoot pretty good video - HD quality, in some cases).

The big question remains though: how do you get people to watch your online video?

In a recent USA Today article, YouTube's head of programming strategy Ben Relles offered a few great tips to make your video stand out on YouTube and get more plays. You should definitely read the full article to learn more, but here's the quick list:

  • Think about what might go viral
  • Make sure you have a good hook
  • Optimize your video
  • Collaborate with others
  • Encourage people to subscribe to your channel
  • Respond to feedback and comments

I think many YouTube viewers are very brillant. They enjoy watching videos on YouTube also have talent catching people's eyes. They talk about recent event about politic, celebrity and show their attitude, personality. I like how they present themselves. A successful video need a lot of work, music, script, editing and MORE. In the future, people will get more brilliant to do their viral videos show their brands.

Most videos that go viral, in my opinion, either envolve someone famous, someone with extremely impressive talent, someone with mulitple videos, or someone who stands out above the rest. I have never personally uploaded a YouTube video but I love watching them. I do however upload a lot of pictures to Facebook and Instagram. I'm sure that uploading pictures and videos go hand in hand. You edit both pictures so that they're clear and vibrant. You also form both pictures and videos to appeal to a certain crowd. You wouldn't upload a video of a country singer singing to get the attention of rap fans. I usually receive a large amount of likes on my photos. It's all about the editing, the captions, and the timing of the photo upload. If you upload something at 2:00am you won't recieve a large fan base. The more likes a photo or video revieves, the more viral it will get.

I believe what makes videos go viral is mainly the content of the video. From what I usually see, videos that go viral are on the extreme sides of comedy, slapstick humor, or dramatic and intense-scary. People want to be entertained constantly, and these are two ways people are. Another asset that helps videos go viral are the timing of them. People nowadays are extremely impatient - they want results right away. Therefore viral videos should be short, and to the point. Advertising your channel is important; the more you tell people to subscribe to your channel, the more you will get- that simple. Jenna Marbles is a great example of that. She always says, "subscribe to my channel, I put out new videos every wednesday!". Millions of people watch her channel every week, because they know when she will make a new video.

Student

In my opinion, the most vital thing which makes a video attractive is its content. Nowadays, people like something new, something interesting, something fun. The creation of the content in a video is the key. What's more, timing is very important, if a topic is very hot right now, a video which has similar content might attract a  lot of attention.  For example, the Aisiana Airline crash just happened, a video which teaches people how to escape from a airline disaster might be very popular.

I like this topic because my boyfriend just got a Youtube channel and is trying to get his videos watched by a lot of people in our community. I think what makes a video stand out is it is funny and does it catch your eye, ear or any sense. I have never uploaded a video but my boyfriend has and not many people have watched them. He has done nothing to try to get more views. I like the ideas that were given. There are many people on Youtube that do the same thing as him that he could collaborate with. Also, respodning and listening to feedback will make people feel more involved and get more people involved.

The most popular videos that I watch on YouTube, are related to those that have gone viral. Very rarely do I watch a video that does not have more than 100,000 views on it. In my opinion, I would much rather watch a video that has a large quantity of views, over a video with very few views. This view count seems to validate whether the video is worth my time or not. The other types of video's that I watch are instructional video's. These video's may not be viral, but they have niched themselves apart from the others, so that they can get the views that are only related to what they are trying to instruct. I believe that over 95% of video's that people watch on YouTube have gone viral, which this shows the importance of whether your video will be seen, or whether it will just sit in the background of YouTube to never be watched.

Actually, I have never uploaded my own video on YouTube but sometimes I spend many times for watching video clips from the site. Basically, I believe a point which can make a video popular comes from various but basic factors. First, of course the content should have clear characters such as humor, enjoyment or usefulness. Second, in my case I prefer to watch a high resolution video, not a poor one. Third, the running time of video should be short. Sometimes just watching a video makes me tired quickly and I begin to search other good & short video.

Student

I think personally for me videos that are comical stand out more to me. Whenever I search anything on youtube it usually has to do with some type of comedy. I think a way to create a broader audience for people to get more views is to create a personal thread and use social media to advertise their videos which in turn will get more people to watch them and wanth to share them.

Student

I think the most common watches come from viral videos.  If a video goes viral, it gets watched millions of times within a week while other videos seldomly get watched.  I dont really go on YouTube and check out videos but every now and then it is great to get on and look up a how to, music video, or watch a video a friend sends you.  I do use YouTube pretty often to upload though, only for family and friends since its private.  I take videos of things friends and I do with my GoPro camera like wakeboarding and paddleboarding and edit them so we can watch them.  Watchers on the videos are pretty limited but thats because I dont really put them out there.

Student

Videos that stand out to me on YouTube are ones that can be used in conversation because they are either creative or have a versatile sense of humor. There have been many occasions where my friends and I will sit down to watch one video and an hour later watching others by the chain effect. I personally have never uploaded a video, just because I never got into uploading and editing when I was younger. However, teammates in the past have been creative in posting video from competitions or practices that I participated in. Being a coach, I have found YouTube to be very helpful. I use it to help explain various moves, routines, and workouts to the athletes that I work with. As we all know YouTube can be a very powerful tool, it can help teach something or allow someone to become "discovere

One thing I have struggled with in getting people to watch my YouTube videos for work is them dying after a week or so. I feel like each week the waves of the internet roll in, and next thing you know there is a new wave crashing in with new content that clouds all previous videos, making them irrelevnant. Some of the videos for the MSU Radio station total up to thousands of views, but on average the videos usually top out around 200-300 views. This class has already helped me optimize our videos in a way to gain more views, but I'm always looking for new and better ways to reach people with our YouTube content.

Student

I think particular videos stand out for different reasons. The "Viral" videos stand out because something out of the ordinary has happened or something stunning, and people love to see stuff like this. But, there is much more to Youtube then just Viral Videos. Particular channels appeal to particular people, such as workout channels, cooking channels, etc. Once people find a particular channel they like, the can subsribe to that person and keep up with their videos that they post. People who regularily update their youtube channels with content definately stand out on youtube, as they gather a following of people, they are pretty much gaining advertising because people will generate hits for them and their videos will become more popular. I have updated a few videos to youtube, but I am more of a surfer than an uploader. I posted my video to my facebook and got a few views, but nothing insane. Youtube is awesome, I love the "How To" videos.

Student

I never thought about optimizing a video for easy accessibility, but now that makes perfect sense. I have uploaded a couple videos in the past for school projects, but I slapped on a title and called it done. So, it makes perfect sense that when I went to show my professor my newly finished project that it took over two painstaking minutes of "I swear I uploaded it!" and "I know it's on here" until I finally found it buried in page 5.

Now I know what to include in my titles and descriptions so that next time I go to show everybody my video it won't be such an ordeal. Thanks SEO!

You have provided a great article from USA, and I enjoyed this question. But, I would like to introduce the idea of providing users a preview of a much more alluring video. Yes, I may have copied this idea from several other geniuses--and of course your video might not be rated as highly as you would want--but if you have a message that you really want to get out--ATTACK ON ALL FRONTS. All of your suggestions provided are incredibly useful, and will eventually result in an incredibly well distributed video. But YouTube shows related videos on the side--and I believe that we should lure the viewer into thinking that our video is powerful and magical. Whether or not we need to look up various pyschological methods to bring people into our dizzyness spinning video to make them buy our product---we need the video to look entertaining. Thus, my point is that you need to make your video look appealing. So use whatever it takes to bring the reader in and make them entertained--all while trying to keep your crediblity.

Typically I only watch YouTube videos from users that I am subscribed to, like Jenna Marbles for example.  Humerous accounts that post weekly and have gained a large following.  I think that the first step to getting viewers is to have a great video, but the second step is to promote yourself well via social media.  Other videos that stand out are ones that have good titles and discriptions.  I personally have never uploaded a video but have a few friends who upload tutorials and promote themselves via social media sites and have gained a small loyal viewership.

Student

I definitely think that humor and music are two very compelling factors when it comes to what makes people want to watch videos on YouTube. I can definitely say they are by far the only reasons I watch anything. I'm usually drawn in by video titles that suggest something funny, like someone epically failing or animals freaking out over other animals. Many of the videos I've watched on YouTube involve people recording themselves for whatever reason and then either getting hurt, or sounding utterly horrible or dumb. The second reason I visit YouTube is to watch music videos. Whenever I hear a song I like and want to play it before actually buying it I go to YouTube. I also use this as a way to learn lyrics to songs. The best YouTube videos are by far the ones that have people trying to sing who just sound awful and therefore the video is funny - the best of both worlds you might say.

I've never actually uploaded a video to YouTube because I don't quite think I've ever recorded something funny enough, or even appropriate enough for the world to understand. If I were to upload a video I'd for sure be posting links to it all over my Facebook and Twitter to push people over there.

Student

Many people used youtube to upload their video. I never uploaded a video on youtube before. To make people watch your video, use a keyword that people usually typed in. Keyword is important in online society. Also, use a tag. Tag with what is related to your video.

Student

Tutorials. That's about it. Oh, and funny YouTube videos are the ones that catch my attention and keep me tuned in. I look to YouTube when I have a home project, craft project or just want to gain further knowledge on a topic. I find that by watching YouTube video that I am able to go through every step that is required of me for whatever it is that I'm watching it for; there is something to be said about actually viewing the process versus just reading about it. I have not personally uploaded a video, but I am not against making a tutorial for something that I believe I've either mastered or know a lot about. It makes sense that a video gains more popularity when you and your friends are talking more about it. So, with that being said, I'd say promote without shame about promoting it. Even if people are annoyed by you saying "hey check this out," they're still going to look at it and you're still going to get some views.

Student

I’ve never been a fan of Youtube channels, but I absolutely love being able to look up things like product reviews, instructional videos and songs that have the lyrics posted. From both what I have read and seen there seem to be very clear common factors in the top videos: a popular topic, an interesting picture and title, and content that is either hilarious, provocative, thought provoking or impassioned.

Student

I haven't had much experience actually uploading, but videos that are viral tend to have one or multiple qualities from a small pool. They are: Interesting, scary, shocking, funny, or informative. More often than not they are also short. The video must be able to capture and keep the viewer's attention, and must make them want to show their friends or other associates. There are many different examples of this, Dove being a prime example. Dove's real beauty campaign videos became two of the most viewed videos on Youtube. It is especially hard for a company to use viral as advertising without it appearing to be a salesman for the company. Dove did this expertly, by actually caring and showing people they are helpful. There is no guaranteed way to have a viral video, but the basic qualities I listed and citing other videos surely can't hurt one's chances.

Student

I've never uploaded a video to YouTube, so I can't comment on that. But, in order for your video to go viral, you must make your video about a topic that people are interested in. Usually, something funny or something newsworthy will fill this need for you. Then, you must make people aware that your video actually exists. Let your friends, family, co-workers, acquaintances know about the video by sharing it on social media. Chances are if they like the video, they will share it with other people and so on and so forth.

Student

When it comes to making a video go viral, there is no question that content and exposure are the two factors that must stand out. I think in order to make a viral video you have to put a lot of time and even more thought into it. The content of your video is what is going to make it pop out of the crowd so it should be funny, shocking, heart-warming, scary or any other powerful emotion you think you could push upon the viewer. Exposure is another thing that is going to help you stand out because the more people that see your video, the more people that will like your video and share it with friends. Personally, I have never uploaded a video to youtube but I do know a person who has around 23k subscribers and keeping up with good content and sharing your video across social media platforms is a definite starting point to try out.

Student

Although I have never made or uploaded a video myself, I have watched my fair share of them. To make a video stand out I’ve noticed they include one of three topics, 1. something funny, 2. something inspirational/moving, 3. something violet or dramatic. The three topics I just listed have been of the most popular hits on YouTube and other videos channels. Most of the videos that become top hits seem to be comical with some type of outrageous meaning behind them. Out of all social media, I feel this form is one of the hardest to track a particular target market.

Student

I think what makes a video stand out on youtube depends on a variety of factors. The title keywords and the sample picture of the video seem to be the most attractive for me. Just because a video has a million or more views doesn't mean I want to watch it. I had made some back yard boxing videos with my friends back in high school just for fun. I always liked to make the title of the videos something like "kid dies in boxing match" or something extreme so people think they will actually see that. I got a couple thousand views on our crappy boxing videos simply because of the title key words.

Student

I think the most popular videos are the ones that are funny.  Those type of videos are usually shared the most and watched amongst friends and family almost daily.  Videos that are funny usually get millions of views and often lead to the star of the video getting a little taste of fame, as they may be seen on commercials or even asked to be interviewed on talk shows.  Other videos that may catch my attention may be singers, doing cover videos or even those "freak accident" type videos.  I have a YouTube account but I have never made a video myself.  I just dont think I'm funny enough honestly.  I think that people get subscribers when they are witty, funny, and interesting.  Not saying that I'm no t any of those things but you have to have some type of connection with the camera (that I don't have).  Besides YouTube, I've noticed that social networks have kind of picked up on the viral video trend.  Things such as Vine and even the new and improved Instagram has become extremely popular amongst the digital generation of today.  Even with videos like these, that give you a limited amount of time, you have to be witty and entertaining in some way for you to grab the attention of a large scale audience.  I commend anybody who can capture the attention of a large number of people in only 6 seconds, as Vine would allow you to do.  I've seen a video become popular in as short amount of time as it was made, and re-streamed to the eyes ofmillions.  Hopefully one day I'll get over my camera shyness and get with the program, or else I'll become an old "social-networker" like those remaining Facebook users (haha).

Student

Personally I have never uploaded any videos to YouTube but I am a big fan of the site. In today's world there is always some viral video making headlines on a daily basis. In my opinion I think the biggest way video's on YouTube stand out is simply by word of mouth. Even though I still use YouTube recreationally, most of the time when I'm going to the site its because I've heard of this hilarious video from one of my friends. If I also think the video is funny, I end up telling my friends and the chain just keeps building. Other then that the only way other videos stand out to me is if YouTube recommends them based on what other videos I have watched.

Student

Many of the Youtube videos I watch are ones that people send to me or those that I have been told to watch by others. I don't typically sit on Youtube and try to find videos to watch. I think the best way for videos to get more views is to share it on social media sites as well as sending it to friends and family members whom you know will watch it, and potentially send it to others. I personally have never uploaded a Youtube video but I know many that have and the success and popularity of their video has depended on how much they promote it and share it with others to see. I find that the videos that stand out the most on Youtube are funny videos that are appealling to all audiences.

Student

Videos that stand out on Youtube have good titles with keywords that people are likely to search for. They also have good tags on them that link them to other videos that people are likely to watch. This way they will appear on the side bar of the website with easy access. I have never put a video on youtube that I really wanted people to see, so I didn't try very hard for them to get recognition. Videos from High School that I wanted to share with friends I have posted on my Facebook page but that is the extent of optimizing it.

Student

Most of the videos that I watch online are sent to me, show up in my facebook news feed, or somebody else shows me. I think what makes youtube video stand out is what they contain. There is a huge variety of what can capture my personal attention, for example i love videos about cars, about people doing crazy things, "fail videos" which is videos of people falling or doing crazy stuff and not landing it. These are some things that capture my and most peoples attention. It has to have an awe factor if you actually want people to want to watch it. Also, if you want to gain viewers you have to make sure you properly advertise the video on all forms of social media. Facebook makes it super easy by having an embedding form so that you can actually watch the video without even leaving facebook. This makes me view a lot more videos because i know that if they were not embedded i probably wouldnt leave the page to go view it. I have never uploaded a video so i have no personal experiences to share, however from being an avid video viewer, i would recommend making sure you have a video that has this "awe" factor i am talking about. Something to grab the attention of viewers and make them want to share it with friends becuase that is where most views come from. Getting the video to go viral is hard without having people share it for you.

Student

Most of the youtube videos I watch are sent to me through email or I see them on my social networking sites. I don’t browse the site looking for videos on youtube, I wait to hear about the good ones from other people. I have helped my brother who is a musician start his youtube channel and keep it up to date, but other than that I have never uploaded any of my own videos.  To get views on his videos we encourage our family and friends to watch it and share it on their social networking sites. I think when videos are interesting and creative, they gain popularity organically and it doesn’t have to be forced.

Student
The only other video that I have posted on YouTube for other than classroom purposes was a funny video of my friend hurting himself, but was simply for entertainment purposes amongst our friends and not to actually gain views. Therefore, it only received minor amount of views. However, if I had done some of the tips as suggested in this blog post such as responding to the comments or optimizing the video then views may have increased. In my opinion what makes a video stand out on YouTube is having great content that can make viewers laugh or deliver the shock and awe feeling to them. This will result in the video being repeatedly viewed and passed along by word-of-mouth to friends others. Also, linking these YouTube videos on social networks will draw attention from many others through retweeets and shares (Twitter and Facebook).
Student

On my past, sharing video on other social media platform to get more exposure is the most effective way to disseminate the content. To get more sharing or reposting, sometimes I have to share it several times. Also, the content should specifically targets on audiences’ interests thus followers could repost video spontaneously. Sometimes the timing is also vital. Posting video on 10:00PM may get more opportunity to be watched than posting it on 9:00 AM since people may update Youtube page more frequently when night. Moreover, attracting title is necessary as well. It decides if people will click the "play" button.

Student

My experience of uploading the video on YouTube is specified only for sharing it with my class fellows and course instructors; therefore, I don't have an indepth experience of using the medium of YouTube for publishing the videos to a broader spectrum of audience.

However, about making videos stand out on YouTube no doubt requires both good content and high production besides optimising it; I feel that if the link to video is embed in posts on other social media as well like Facebook, Twitter and so on, it will certainly capture wider audience.

Student

A post on YouTube is pretty much like posting something on a blog. It is important to post something that gives something to the viewers. A video could be a list of some sort, an instructional video, a video that comments on a new product or service that was just released by a company, amongst many other things. To grab and keep the attention of viewers, a video should be relatively short and contain some humor or other enticing feeling. I have posted videos on YouTube before, but they were just videos that I just shared with friends and family. I didn't really try to promote them at all, really, because I didn't think that the larger Internet would care to see a video of my brother playing guitar when he was twelve or a dorky little video that I posted from my 8th grade class trip . Of the maybe five that I've put up, none of them are really "viral" material. I might start posting more videos in the future, especially if any of the clubs or organizations that I'm a part of require me to do so!

Student

I love watching youtube videos. I mostly look for funny videos or talents with people showing off their crazy good talent. I think the biggest thing that draws me and other people to watch a video is the title. Usually when I look for videos to watch I look self explanatory titles. I want to know what I am going to watch just by reading the title. I have never posted any videos myself. I agree with the list from the article but I think the first point about going viral is a tough on. Generally when things go viral I don't think it is completely intentional, everyone always wishes for videos for videos to go viral. I think the best point in the article is collaborating with others that is a big part of good videos becasuse it brings different ideas to the table which makes for a better video.

Student

YouTube is such a great creative platform. I've never uploaded any videos myself, but I love that you can literally find anything on YouTube. From tutorials to news clips to different mashups, I think that what makes the YouTube community great is its diversity. I think the best videos on YouTube are definitely funny ones, or tutorials. I can go from video to video just searching different how-to's. I always get sucked in. I think that the best way to get more views is definitely to upload something different, also something that is very easily searchable. If it can't be found, it's useless. A lot of the most popular videos are spread through word of mouth as well. I think that if you can get enough people talking about or sharing your video you can definitely make it a successful one!

Student

I have never posted a video on YouTube before but I have some ideas that I would incorporate if I ever did post a video. First of all I would try to post a video that is not very common, meaning that there are so many similiar videos on YouTube that only some of them get a lot of views. i would try to post something unique so that it would get more views. Another thing that I would do is try to create an interesting title so that even if someone was not expecting to watch my video, they would just because it sounds interesting. Finally, I would post my video in all my blogs and social networks so all peers could see the video; I feel like the more places you post and advertise your video the more views it will recieve.

Student

I feel the videos that stand out the most on YouTube are ones that bring at least one of these three things; something new, something shocking, or something extremely emotionally provoking, whether sad, funny, heartfelt, etc. If a video provokes strong emotion or provides viewing that is totally unique, word of mouth will become inevitably active. I have uploaded a video once with a good friend. We were in Germany (perhaps after a few beers) and decided to host a fake psychic reading show using her Macbook Pro photobooth. Needless to say we really let loose and hammed it up. We did put the video on YouTube though, we did not make efforts to optimize viewing. In fact, we were just tickled at the fact that our silly video was on YouTube for public access. As far as I know the video has gotten around a hundred views on it's own, more than likely because we weren't afraid to make such fools of ourselves.

Student

From the videos that i have seen online, i would have to say that videos that include comedy are the ones that are most receptive with people. There are entire websites, like funnyordie.com, that are exclsively for funny videos. Videos on that site receive millions of views and cause the viewers to come back to the site over and again. Although i have not made videos myself, if i were to make a video, i would have it include comedy, a catch song, and have it be made with high resolution.

Student

I think videos that stand out are ones that are original and are unlike anythng people have seen before. For instance, the Harlem Shake video from the Virginia swim team went viral because no one had seen one done it that form before. I myself enjoy watching youtube videos that are unique and especially funny. I haven't ever uploaded a youtube video before. I think another great way to get viewers is to post to a link to you social media sites. When my friends post tutorials or funny videos on thir facebook or twitter, I almost always click to watch out of curiosity. Its cool to see something that one of your friends personally created.

Student

As a heavy Youtube user, I watch new videos (those I didn't know before I opened Youtube) base on the following criterian: catchy title, number of views, and Youtube recommandation.Out of the three criterian, I click on videos that are recommanded by Youtube as "you may also like" on the right side of my window the most. This is why Youtube SEO is crutial to get your video watched by the audiences. Your videos should meet your "buyer persona," as mentioned by the textbook. Once you target the right audience, efficiently utilize right tags, include right key words in the title as well as in video description, your videos might have better chances to be "recommanded" by Youtube.

Student

I think what makes a youtube video stand out is that it has to be very unique or creative. If it's funny it definitely helps.  I believe that the best way to get views is to submit a funny video to a show like Tosh.O or America's Funniest Home Videos.  I have never uploaded a video to youtube, but one of my friends tried to go mainstream on youtube. He would make videos of himself dancing redicuously to different songs. I don't think he ever got to 50 views on youtube, probably because his videos weren't that funny or unique.

Student

There was a time when I would sit on YouTube for hours just searching videos. I think what makes a good video stand out is humor and the amount of views. I have uploaded one video to Vine with my friend and not in hopes that it would go viral but just to do it for fun. There was only about nine "likes" on it and I didn't try to get more views because you cannot edit a video on Vine. I like Instagram better for videos and photos but I have yet to post a video on there. A boy I went to highschool with is actually a YouTube sensation and he makes popular videos called Songs In Real Life and I got the opportunity to be in one of them so, that was cool to see his video live and in the making.

Student

I think the statistic of "viewers watch over 6 billion hours of video each month" is a crazy statistic.  That is a ton of viewing time, and it's even crazier to think that some people actually watch more than that a month.  I think things that make a video stand out on YouTube is a new idea.  If somebody sees something new or a different way of doing something, it becomes watched more often because more people want to do it or watch it.  I also think it has to be relevant to what people are interested in today's world, such as music, pop culture, or some sort of trending topic that has already been established.  I have never uploaded a video, but these are the characteristics that generally tend to attract my attention when on YouTube.

Student

I think that biggest factor that makes an Internet video stand out and go viral is good content. It seems that successful videos always have content that is creative and well planned. They are usually focused, short, and spark a particular emotion in viewers. For me I frequently enjoy videos that are funny or tell a very touching story, both sparking strong emotions in me. I have personally never created and posted a video (other than for educational reasons) on the Internet, so do not have much experience in the area. However, if I were to post a video I would make sure that it had a unique hook that would make my viewers interested in the video, encouraging them to share with their friends and family. Additionally, I think that it takes a very creative person to make a great video go viral. Someone who is thinks outside of the box and can come up with an idea that most people would never dream up.

YouTube's highly popular video sharing network has revolutionized the concept of capturing footage and publishing it online for millions to see. However, simply posting a video clip doesn't necessarily ensure that it will be viewed. There are a variety of ways to increase the popularity of your posts. The first way one can grab the viewers’ attention is by simply creating content that is unique and interesting to a particular niche of viewers. Creating a video that appeals to a specific category of viewers is a great way to initially increase the traffic of your post. YouTube has incorporated various channels and subscriptions to their network which allows individuals with similar interests to share info and footage between one another. Another way to increase your views would be to publish some type of breaking news story. Viewers are always interested in breaking news, and if your video on YouTube releases breaking information many viewers will recognize you as a reputable source of information. Personally, I have not uploaded any videos to YouTube, although I do occasionally browse the network for various musical videos and comical posts.

Student

I think there are two big reasons that make a YouTube video stand out: the content and the amount of viewers. First off, the content makes a huge difference. If you have a particular music video you want to watch by a favortie artist, or simply just a random video, the content is what is going to catch your eye. Secondly, I think the number of views makes a difference too. I know for my personally, every once and a while I will check out the most viewed watch videos, and I am sure I am not the only one who does that! If I were to round out a top 3, I think word-of-mouth would also be a reason for YouTube videos to be a hit. As for me posting videos, the only one I have posted was a speech that I had to perform for another class...only 23 views but I'll take it!

I've only uploaded a video to YouTube once and it was for a class project. The last time I checked, only around 70 people had viewed it. It wasn't a priority of mine to gain more viewers since my intentions were only for my class and professor to see it. I believe that videos that stand out on YouTube are almost always either controversial or outrageous. Controversial videos create buzz and once people around you start talking about the video, you want to see it so that you can join in on conversations related to it. Outrageous videos are also a hit because people enjoy watching clips that allow them to take their mind off day-to-day things.

Yes, I have uploaded a video. And not too much people have viewed. Less than 10 views, and I didn't do anything to get more views. I would rather enjoy watching videos. I realize some topics are really hot, such as baby, cats, doggie ('speaking' dogs) and any pets. You may get familiar on Youtube because of your personality, your strong ability in some area, sing, dance, talk show. There are so many ways to get attention. I also subsribe some production team, they are young guys and become popular because of their uploaded video. More than 4 million subscribers. Sometimes they upload videos show they have received gifts from their fans and interact with them. I believe collaborate with others really help your video stand out. They have also made a music video for celebrity because of their popularity on YouTube.

I've uploaded videos to youtube the most views it's gotten being 50 or so. But I didn't try to get people to watch it so it was lind of pointless. For future uses I will definitely keep those tips in mind. I also think it would be benificial to post it in online communities of people who are interested in the content. If you're posting about butterflies you can find a butterfly fan page on Facebook and post it there and things like that.
