Build Your Profiles

I do feel comfortable with my abilities when it comes to social media, or so I thought before taking this class. The only profile I had not yet created was a google account and even though I have a facebook, twitter, and linkedin for some reason I was most reluctant to fill out personal information on the google account profile page. I did what was required to have it publicized but for some reason it irked me to post where I am from and where I have come from on the page. I think this is because I recognize google with something people literally use every second of everyday for pretty much any need they might have. With connecting myself so closely to a site that gets the most traffic of any site in existence it made me feel like it could be used by someone in a non-professional way and that social media could be a security risk.

I have no problem putting all of my personal information on facebook and especially linkedin because I relate these sites to business individuals. I can't imagine someone taking all the time to figure out how to create an account as intricate as linkedin just to abuse it. Also there is more privacy with linkedin because you are notified if someone would like to be a connection with you. Perhaps it is my lack of familiarity with my new google account that is the source of my suspicions but regardless I will take this as an opportunity, and assume that my assumptions are wrong, to learn and "trust" such a public source of information. We art'te adults so we should be instilled with the instincts to know when someone seems dangerous or is being invasive to you personally but what about kids or other less-informed individuals who barely even know what they are using?
