For me, the most exciting tool that I learn in NMDL class is Linkedln. Before taking this class, I had a Linkedln account and I only created because a friend of mine told me to do so. I was not aware of the opportunities that Linkedln can give me. With the knowledge I had in this class, now I can see how Likedln could help me with my career path if I use it properly. I will definitely consider using Linkedln in my professional life and since there are lots of opportunities I even thinking about marketing a brand or a product from it. I believe people who are planning a professional career should definitely create one in order to find new opportunities.
My favorite tool I've learned about so far in the NMDL course is definitely LinkedIn. Before this course I had a linkedin that was mostly filled out but I didn't know how much it could really do for me. This class has taught be specific ways I can enhance my profile, by wording my bio a certain way and showing a part of my personality through my bio or picture has really helped me gained confidence in the LinkedIn world. I now see LinkedIn as a tool I can use to promote my own brand, instead of just following the crowds & trends.
If you ask about my favorite tools among those we've learned so far, I think I will pick facebook as the one that I like best. Because it has all the things ready to use there. It doesn't like others, you can write the blog or short sentence just express your feelings, or upload the pictures, or start an instant chat with friends. what I like the most is the share button, people can share interesting messages, links, pictures or videos, anything you can share on facebook. Not to mention it could build a business on facebook too. I like the way that facebook sort of having everything get together in one social media.
to me, i think easiest way to find something new for me is always by Google search. It is easy and efficient. I can always find lots resources and connect to my google friends and talk about it on my website.
Since I started twitter and linkedin account, I am getting interested in them as a tool to keep things updated. facebook and twitter is more like casual network sites, me and my friends can just make fun of each other and find trendy information; linkedin is more like a professional network site to get to know more working people and get interns or jobs.
I am a big fan of photo shoot, I search pictures everyday, wallbase.cn is pretty cool for big pictures with good quality.
Nice picture!
My favorite thing that I learned about is LinkedIn. Going into the class, I had heard about it but never chose to create a profile. After learning about the benefits of it and setting up a profile for this class, I have continued to build on it and use it as a professional tool. I have even helped out my dad with his profile and got to show off what I have learned. I know that I will use this network well into the future and I'm glad I got to start in this class. The other thing I'm glad I can take away from this class is setting up a blog. Although I haven't put as much time into that as I have LinkedIn, it's good to know the benefits of having a blog and knowing how to use one. So happy to have my New Media's Drivrs License and loved this class!
I am currently obsessed with Foursquare locations and Twitter. I love how I can check-in somewhere and update what I am doing and it will automatically post to my twitter. It is like killing two birds with one stone. I love the convenience of this. I also like that I can always see where my friends are at and not have to switch between applications.
For me, my favorite social media tool is location based marketing. Not only I'm a heavy users of foursquare, but also LBS provides unprecedented opportunities for retailers to directly contact with consumers. Since users of LBS use this kind of applications as a game, users might engage in checking in and have commitment to some retailers. Therefore, I think retailers or other businesses can take advantage of LBS to appeal to customers and then enhance their loyalty, which is a final purpose of marketing for marketers. I'm not sure I will go into the field of digital; however, I think nowadays most of businesses need to conduct social and digital marketing. Therefore, it's still important to know digital marketing no matter in which businesses.
I already commented on this blog post, but I figured I'd comment on it again for the last homework session. I currently have a Blackberry, and I can't stand it! Anytime I try to download an app of some sort, my phone will shut itself off. I've got my eye on an iPhone 4S, and when I get one, the first app I'm going to download will be Foursquare. I used to be wary of the idea of sharing where I am with others, but I now think it's a nice way to connect with friends and loved ones on a different level. I can't wait to be Mayor of Macy's or Victoria's Secret or Aldo (the three places I work at) or the Mayor of Leo's Coney Island once I need a place to study till 4am for ADV 486 next semester!
Looking back at the semester and what we've covered in New Media DL, my favorite social media tool I've picked up is the mastery of Twitter. Over the course of the last few months I've become addicted. I've come to understand not only the social benefits, but the marketing benefits as well. Anyone who's anyone is on Twitter. Topics can begin to trend, which is Twitter's equivalent to going viral. The marketing opportunities, such as increasing brand awareness, are endless and can be acheived for free!
I am still the most excited about location based marketing since we learned on the subject, already apps such as Shopkick have kicked it up a notch and have now tied in the abililty to link in your Visa Credit/Debit card. So not only is one movements tracked easier for marketing research in large venues such as a mall, but with this new partnership with Visa they will be able to see if the marketing is actually working whether the customer actually purchased something or not
My favorite thing to learn in the world of social media is about blogging. Setting up our own blog and reading about all the different aspects in the book really opened my eyes. I feel in this day and age, blogging can be highly utilized by companies and can effectively communicate to consumers. I thought of blogging before as more of a personal thing and hadn't really seen the business aspect until now. I definitely think in any field you can use blogs and what they have to offer, but for me particularly going into advertising and sales, blogs will be very helpful. Knowing what people are saying about your product is very important and hearing their complaints may be even more important. I fully intend to use what I've learned about blogs in the future and hope to have great success with it.
I really liked creating my own blog. I am not a big user of social network, however I realized how important social marketing through this class. It is fun to make my own page and share new ideas with many people. Also, just typing my favorite words, I can simply see all types of articles and ideas. Many tools including facebook, twitter, LinkIn, foursquare, etc are good tools to help strong social marketing.
I like blogging the best.
I've learned that definitely online marketing is important...but honestly I still hate it.
If other people like it as a job, that is great, because somebody has to do it. But, it's not for me. I don't like staring at screens.
I'll still take scribbling my thoughts down on 10 pages of college-ruled notebook paper than jamming down the keyboard keys to create a blog.
This class was certainly helpful though, in understanding what happens currently in the online world of Advertising.
I'm happy to have taken it, as I can see it being helpful in the future.
I would have to say that I am most exciting about blogging. I had no idea how easy it was to create and post on a blog. I’m looking forward to developing a current blog within the next few weeks. The best tool I have learned about is Google Ad words, I had no idea about it and how cost effective it can be.
I feel as though Social Media Marketing is the most important concept that we learned this semester. Tools such as linkedin, google plus, facebook, twitter, etc. I feel as though all of these outlets are connected and to gain an edge on the competition for any company they need to be on all of these and update them frequently they need to use the oppurtunity at hand and capitalize on these need social media outlets.
I think after all that I've learned in this class, brand monitoring seems to have stuck out the most. Before this class I wasn't aware of the ways you can track the company through sites like Google Alerts and Hootsuite. I remember liking Hootsuite the best because the results that were delivered came from a consumers perspective. Another thing I liked was the fact that social media (Twitter) was integrated into this type of research using Hootsuite. This was good because it was something I was already familiar with and seeing as how I am an avid Twitter user this is something that can stay with me beyond this class. I wont have to put much effort into using something unfamiliar and learning it all over again. There's more ease in usng this.
Getting my New Media Drivers License doesnt mean that I plan to go into the field of digital but what I've learned so far is completely relevant to whatever career path I choose to follow and if i should choose the digital path I will already have plenty of knowledge from this class as my foundation.
Prior to this class, my personal involvement with social media was limited to Facebook and a single tweet here and there. At work, I use Google Analytics and AdWords on a regular basis. But, that's it. I was aware of the other social media platforms such as FourSquare, but just didn't have the time or interest to try them out. FourSquare is becoming a personal favorite of mine because of the tips and deals. On the business side, I enjoyed learning how to integrate different platforms together for a strong campaign and how blogs are a powerful marketing tool. I have a number of friends who are self-employed and I'd like to develop social media campaigns for them in order to gain more experience.
What I liked and learned from this class was using ‘Foursquare’ and Google tools. I have heard about it before but never used it before this class. I recently use Foursquare more than Facebook. I have visited Orlando, Florida first time this Thanksgiving, and used Foursquare to visit new places that was recommended. I used it very effectively, and have checked in and make comments many places on it. So people could see my comments if that place is good place to visit or not. Also, I have learned a lot that Google was not just a SEO purposes but also with Google plus, and other advertising purposes. Facebook was the only social media website that I have used, but now I am glad I knew more than just facebook.
I never used any social media marketing or online tools before except Facebook. I learned so many kinds of tools in this class such as Google+, Google Adwords, Foursqure, LinkedIn, etc. My favourite tool that I learned is location based marketing. What I feel the most excited is about location based marketing is the ability to geo-target advertising messages to mobile consumers continues to advance, especially as check-in services like Foursqure, Loopt, and Gowalla gain momentum and build small but influential audiences from New Media Drivers License, really helpful. What I like the most is Foursqure, and interesting facts about it is the first-ever Coach Men's Store is giving out free cologne to the first 200 people to checkin on Foursqure. Yes for me, I do getting into the field of digital from New Media Drivers License.
Twitter has become my favorite social media site since this class has started. I was very questionable to make one but after I did I started to use it all the time. Twitter is a great way to stay in touch with friends as well as companys or celebs that interest you. It really is the funniest social media website to me too I am always laughing when reading peoples tweets.
I agree and would like to add a one thing: It's great that it's 140 characters. Everyone has to squeeze their thoughts into this space and make it interesting so that people follow up. It's kindo of forcing everyone to do mini-marketing of their own content. The 140 characters also increase efficiency: You can receive so many messages in such a short time! This is why I love it in particular for news: When I want to know what's going on in the world (especially in the tech world), I just scroll down my twitter feed and I will have a pretty good idea. Then I can read what I care about, and not what some TV programmer thinks I should care about (I stopped watching TV completely).
(Note for graders: I posted a comment to this blog entry last week already but as there is no new blog entry I posted to it again for this week.)
I will likely take what I learned about Google tools on to my future. I was amazed at what was offered and think that this knowledge will help me in my chosen career path. This class has really taught me a great deal about new media and marketing and have found it to be valuable. It has allowed me to expand my job search to a whole new side of advertising. I find myself much more interested in the digital marketing area and consider myself equipped for such a path. Being able to learn how social media impacts marketing has been very helpful and have been researching more information as a result. I am most excited about how I will use my New Media Drivers Licence and the greater career opportunities it has opened me up to!
I like foursquare the most. I think it is a great social media tool, especially for marketers. The whole concept of specials and getting rewarded for checking into places is genius. Once I graduate, I will definitely recommend to my employer to get on the foursquare train. It is a great way for all sorts of businesses to market themselves, and it is also a lot of fun for the user.
I'd have to say the tool that I have come to like the most would be FourSquare surprisingly. I like the fact of checking in and seeing who's in the area but I still do find some check ins unnessary. I mostly use it to check in at work so I can become mayor and to see if one of my friends are working. I do like some of the deal provided by checking in. I find it a fun app to use here and there. The tool that I find most beneficial to marketing though I would say are the Google tools, they're very useful and you can learn a lot about your target market and keywords that are most popular for your audience. There are a variety of tools that you can choose from. If i'm ever in the need to market then I would definitely use Google. It's amazing all the tools and networking tools available to people nowadays, I'd have to say I've learned quite a bit and I'm excited to be using it in the future.
I am most interested with social media marketing. I've noticed that since taking this class and becoming more knowledgeable about social media, that this is important to many employers. There are careers made just for social media, they need people like us in this class to help the older generations utilize social networks and monitor these networks. I feel that since taking this class I could market myself as not only an Advertising student, but someone who could qualify for those social media jobs.
Twitter has become my new favorite online tool as it allows me to follow my favorite celebrities, hearing their take on things that I never would have been able to heard elsewhere.
Google marketing tools can be really useful when you are doing marketing in this web-based marketplace. It gives you many great suggestion and help you to control the web campaign while it's going. If there can be some twitter keywords tracking as other paid tools, it may benefit more users and contribute back to the Google brand as well.
Google tools, especially Analysis, is my favorite social media tools.
Without a doubt, I would say learning all about the tools Google has to offer, is definitely the highlight of this class. Personally, I knew little about the endless possibilities Google has to offer. I had only heard of GoogleAdWords prior to taking the class. It was eye opening to see all of the other advertising and marketing instruments Google provides. Honestly, I now look at Google as an ad agency in itself. It has the power to conduct market research concerning demographics, psychographics etc., while also providing insights into what consumers are actually searching for, and of course it enables you to advertise your product.
The most intriguing part I learned throughout our course this semester is social media marketing and how it can be done in many different ways. I always knew that many companies and businesses use social media marketing. However, I thought, to do this, it would cost a lot of money. But what is mind boggling about social media marketing is the fact that it can be done with little or no money. For example, using twitter and advertising certain brands, companies, and business’ products will cost zero amount of money but will be very impactful if these business’ twitter accounts hold many viewers. Knowing how to use social media marketing as a tool for advertisement is very beneficial for my future career in advertising field.
The marketing tool that I am most excited yet a lil creeped out about at the same time is the location based. I love the fact that applications such as shopkick are able to give me push notifications about a stores coupons or sales when I am close to the store. Great for impulse shopping, and one can only imagine the possibilities where this could lead too.
My favorite tool I learned was how to use Google Adwords and how to select key words to promote your company on search engines. This will help me in my career when I open an insurance agency because most people today search Google for everything. I'm already working on key words for myself and helping my dad with my cousin on selecting key words for his agency. I don't think I will go into the digital field, but I will be utilizing everything I've learned about social media and adwords to promote my business to the greatest extent possible.
I think I'm an all around kind of guy - I like a lot of the things we have learned so far - looking forward to the assignment on CATVERTISING. Hhahah.
I have told MANY people about this class, and always end with saying "the things I learn in this class are going to be what get me a job after graduation." And I mean every word of that. I feel like search engine optimization and Google tools are some of the most valuable skills I have learned in this course. Being forced to get hands on experience with these important tools will prove to be so valuable in the future as companies rely more and more on social/new media. No other Communications, PR or Marketing class I've taken here at MSU has exposed me to these aspects of marketing, and I am so thankful that I now have experience using them! I also have really enjoyed beginning to use location-based services. Foursquare is so fun, and I love all of the opportunities it creates for a mutual relationship between consumer and company.
I think the most important thing that I've learned in this class is search engine optimization. It is about much more than just adding keywords to your pages and documents. You really need to think about the layout and design of your website and what words users are going to be searching for when they would find your website helpful. By really using search engine optimization techniques, you can really increase the amount hits your website receives and your profit in the end.
I like blogging the best.
I guess all social media will have a huge marketing impact in the future...but I don't think it will be through ads. I think the most important thing I've learned in this class is that new media marketing is a more targeted approach. So, you don't have to be that pushy, in-your-face type of person many people envision marketing/sales/advertising professionals to be.
So, in that respect, I respect new media marketing a lot more, because it is just building relationships with fans, so they'll be more likely to go to you when they want to get something.
I still think google Adwords is ridiculously confusing though. If I were a small business owner...well, maybe I would understand Adwords better because I would be crunching numbers as a small business CEO, but I would be like, yeah, I really don't want to use this marketing tool because it is really confusing.
So, I feel like google needs to dumb it down so everyone can understand Adwords. Not everyone is as smart as everyone who works there.
Blogging is still my favorite social media tool because I can write as much as I want.
We have learned a lot in this semester, I believed that social media will take an important place in Advertising industry in the fulture. I think I like social media marketing is the most interesting for me. I feel it will gain enough market share in the fulture and as an advertiser, I have enough fate for the career I choosed.
After trying my hand at many aspects of social marketing and media, I am the most excited about location based marketing. It is much newer than the rest and could present marketers with many exciting opportunities. With this new segment consumers are tracking their movements and being upfront about the places they like to eat at, activities they like to participate in, and their local hangouts. Consumers are now very public with their daily activities. This openness makes it easier for advertisers to pint point their target market and where they are spending their time.
I have never put much thought into the field of digital marketing but after this class I would like to explore this new realm more and possibly make it my career track. I like the thought of being able to have a more direct impact on consumers. I still want to explore more areas of advertising but I find that digital media may be a path I could, and want to take.
The most interesting and impactful thing I've learned this semester in New Media Driver's License Seminar is the overall power of social media. The potential that it gives to the business world in regards to marketing is incredible. What's even more intriguing is the fact that so much can be done with spending little or no money. Using free sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube can launch a company's name or campaign and eventually turn it viral. Before this class, I never really looked at these social networking sites as an avenue for marketing, but now I can see that it's clearly the future of the advertising and marketing world. Lastly, what amazes me the most is that we're still in the early stages of all this technology. The possibilities are literally endless. I can't wait to see what the future has to offer!
I have learned a lot throughout this semester. However, I learned that making a blog was very easy and very informative and useful. I didn't know you could do so many things with a blog. I also didn't know it was that easy to connect to so many different people and have conversation with people you are connecting with. This makes it not quite social networking but you can network with it which I didn't understand.
I was amazed at the number of tools that one can use to track and monitor a website. Google is such a large player in this online world with Google Adwords and basically the rest of its advertsizing tools and software. I greatly enjoyed learning about the uses of Twitter and feel much more comfortable using it to spread any news that seems interesting. I will surely continue to use Hootsuite to monitor the public's opinion on anything that I might need to know in the upcoming years of my advertising education. I believe that earning my New Media Drivers License will help me in any career that I look for.
There's a lot of social media that I find interesting and addictive. There's no doubt that Facebook is a dominant force in so many people's lives. I remember when I used Facebook heavily, it was especially nice when life would get busy and I could post quickly what was going on so I didn't get a flood of calls or texts. If you're like me I can never remember when birthdays are, silly as it sounds I like that Facebook notifies me when a birthday is coming up. YouTube is another site I can't get away from, I love surfing through this site in my free time, you never know what you'll find. Since being in this class I've discovered I like the site Stumbleupon, it's neat finding information on here that correlates with whatever interests you have. One last site I must talk about is Twitter, this site is great for many reasons; one being I know all the breaking news about sports before any of my guy friends. I chuckle because they think its silly to be on Twitter yet they'll ask me if anything new happened since the last time they watched sports center.
One of the most interesting parts i've learned throught the semester was the uses of blogging. Blogging is a way to connect to people with similar interests as yourself. If you use a blog correctly whether you are an individual or a company, you can create, establish, and maintain a positive brand. Being able to express something of your interest or of your experiences as an individual or a company gives readers the chance to feel involved and gives them the chance to provide you essential feedback.
I haven't really been particularly excited about anything that I've 'learned' in this class. I'm going to try to do my best to keep my various social media presences updated but I'm not really optimistic about being able to because I just don't seem to be built to love social media as all my other peers do. I guess I should have been born about ten years earlier before all this started so that I might not have to worry about it as much, seeing as hopefully I'd have a job already by then.
I would have to say the tool I am most excited about has been Google AdWords. I feel it had a lot of value-added importance to my career and my relevance in the job market. Going into public relations, I know this tool will be something I employ regularly, and I now feel completely comfortable using the tool to implement further success in whatever environment I am working in.
I absolutely feel that this class has added a meaningful skill to my résumé; one that has full relevance to my career path, and will give me yet another reason why I should be the one to be hired, as opposed to my competition. Digital media is a huge part of public relations. As the book says, the traditional means of reaching your audiences just don’t work anymore. Social media will be a part of my job (and a growing part) for the rest of my life.
My favorite social media tool is blogging. It's something I've always enjoyed doing ever since I was in the 8th grade. (Of course, my posts were much different then.) I personally love reading what other people have to say, and I wish more people would take the time to put themselves out there. Blogging is something I'm slowly learning how to do differently in order to create a personal brand for myself. I think with improvements, blogging could really help my future.
My personal favorites are still Facebook & Twitter, however, I have to admit that I have used Foursquare much more because of this class. I have also used Facebook and Twitter in different ways, An example of this is when I enabled the new Facebook "timeline" on my account shortly after hearing about it in class. I have also used hashtags as purposeful text instead of just funny, meaningless statements (at least once in a while).
I have also improved my knowledge of Google Analytics and looked more into Google AdWords. It has been been quite useful as I use these tools to monitor my own blog.
I think social media marketing and SEM are the best tool for advertisers. Not necessarily the most fun to use, but certainly the one that renders the most ROI. Social Media Marketing and SEM are great for marketing objectives but tools like blogging, digital PR, and all those opinion platforms are really good for communication objectives. They are all great tools with different advantages and disadvantages. I think integrating all of these would make a really great advertising campaign.
My favorite thing that I learned about is blogging. I was interested in start blogging before taking this class because I get so much information from the blogs and it looked really interesting. However, I didn't even know how to start it. By taking this class, I learned the importance of social media and blogging.
