Get to know your Michigan State University ADV 420 profs

I heard some companies before they interview you or hire you they will check your social media accounts, like your Facebook, twitter, or you Instagram. If they see some very horrible stuff on your account, they are not going to hire you, so my question is from now on, how should I find balance from my personal life and my hard work part on social media so I can give my future boss a good first impression? (Like what should I post on my social media account from now so I can give my future boss a good first impression).

I'm really excited to take this class as I've heard a lot of great things about it and want to learn how to effectively use social media to gain a company's business/exposure.

I'm really excited to take this class. I am pumped to be able to say I'm certified in social media marketing and to sharpen my skills for the real world. My full-time job coming up consists of utilizing social media marketing and understanding industry trends! I have friends who took this course and they said they learned a lot from it. And some of them weren't even trying to work at an agency. Most of them worked in sales and loved learning about a different facet of the industry.

I am very excited to take this course and learn more about digital marketing!

I am so excited to take this course! One of my friends from high school told me to take this class when I told her I wanted to explore the career field of social media marketing. I have had a social media marketing internship and recently accepted a second. It is my senior year, so I hope that this class will prepare me for the workforce! I want to become more of an expert in social media instead of someone who just has a large following on my personal page. What advice would you give to someone who hopes to work with social media as a career? Do you think that this field will be growing over the course of the next few years? 

I am looking forward to this course and only wish we met in person! You all are great professors and I am interested in learning how to better market myself and future businesses.  Being born and raised in the technology era social media is common in my everyday life, but it will be extremely beneficial to use it to both promote and persuade.

I'm really looking forward to this class this semester and have high hopes of building my resume to catch the eye of potential employers. My mother is worried about me going into advertising because she thinks it's a very hit or miss feild. The clients insterest and feedback can deteremine your worth and she thinks it would be a lot of getting laid off and having to find a new job. What do you think is the best way to find a job that you have for the long run? Yet, I'm not the type to stay at a boring job I don't like regaurdless of the money. I would like to work for a company that has me traveling around the world for the first couple of years, what do you think is the best way to get your foot in the door with a international marketing company? I would love to work on media advertising for big events but also help in some of the planning and run through. Hopefully this isn't a shot in the dark. 

How many social media platform should every company have? In my opinion, the more is better; However, some people might be tired of seeing some relative posts for many times. In addition, how many times should a company update their news every week?

I would like to think that I am knowledgable about socail media but as time goes on there are quiet a few forms of social media that I had no idea existed. With the change in the way people interact with social media do you think the preexisting forms of social media like Facebook and Twitter are strong enough to compete with the raising use in the new forms like Snapchat?

I have no doubt that this class will be one of the mose beneficial I've taken. I'm excited to see how I can apply the concepts learned and relate them to my experience working with companies' social media platforms. My question is between Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, do you ever see any one of these platforms becoming obselete in the future? Or are they so far established that they will always have a following?

I am really excited for this class because it seems like amazing hands on expreience to be able to look at a brand and be able to see what they are doing wrong and what they are doing right. I cannot wait to see where this class is going. The question I have is: is branding similar for a business as it is for individually branding yourself? Are there ways that are better for each? I know that personally LinkedIn is better for professionalism, but is it be unheard of to brand yourself on other social media sites just like businesses do even if you are not famous?

I’m currently managing the social media accounts for a department on campus, so I am excited to take all that I learn in this class and be able apply it immediately to my job! They currently want me to focus my energies on Twitter, which is my least favorite social media platform - which platforms do you prefer? 

I have heard great things about this class and I am excited to learn about advertising in a way that will really be useful when I apply for a job. Thank you for pointing out those certifications in our face-to-face class that we can complete to put on our resume-- I had no idea that even existed. I am wondering what certifications you think are most useful for a job in advertising? As in, what certification stands out most to employers when they look at a resume?

I have already got some knowledge of social media and digital market. My question is how to distinguish people who misclick to the advertising on the social media pages from those people who really interested in the advertising content? Since we are in an indeed boom year of digital market, are there many companies cutting the budget on the TV advertising, then considering support the social media budget?

What kind of social media is the best to use for business communication? And would we keep using social media as a communication tool in the future or better communication tool will be invented?

I am really enjoying this class already, I love how it is easy to use and is web-based. I know a lot of companies big and small use social mediato connect with their audience , but do you think that there is a such thing as a point where "too much " presence online is no longer effective ?

One thing I found interesting was how some groups used Twitter to attack companies. How should a company deal with a lot of Tweets or Facebook comments that are negative?

This is probably the class I'm most excited for this semester. I think the material in here is some of the most relevant to our day and age. Wanting to go into the publishing industry getting Barnes and Noble as my brand is really exciting. I feel like with my brand, Barnes and Noble, that community among readers is their biggest resource. So my question is, what social media platform do you think is best in building a sense of community among customers and the company?

 I really enjoy the class. Here is my question: What the differnece betwwen the Twitter and Facebook in the business sides?

I'm thrilled to be a part of this class and I love my brand! My question is what is your opinion on formalities on different platforms of social media?  Do you think it's okay to be less formal on Twitter vs. Facebook, or do you think that all platforms should have an equal significance? If you do think they should be equal, do you ever tailor your content posted based on your different target audiences on each platform?  

i'm learning lots of fun  things already but I do have a question in regards to the need for digital marketing for all types of target audiences. How important is it for a company who's target audience may not be for  the internet saavy younger groups of today to still get their message out on social media? In what ways, are they doing this differently? Is digital marketing a necessity for all? 

This class is already one of my favorite classes ever and we have only just begun. I thoroughly enjoy listening to you two as you teach the class. A question I have been wondering about though is how did you get started with your online business Mr. Davis? I see successful start-ups happening all the time and I just think to myself, how did they even start that? The internet is becoming more and more a part of our lives than ever before and starting an online business seems to be the smartest way to go. You save on so many hard expenses by selling your product exclusively online and I just want to know how you got started with that?

What type of social media will bring benefits to small companies? Or do you think other medium will bring more benefits for small companies such as print and television medium?

It's been a common theme among many classes that I've taken that we are pushed to be on every social media platform for brand building. It's nearly impossible to keep up with all of these platforms and post creative things in an effort to sell ourselves to possible employers, however it seems that by not remaining updated on them may do more harm than good. Do you think that this is really critical for building our own personal brand? Is there such a thing as over exposure?

In your opinion, what online certification is most beneficial to have a resume?

Here's my question, do you know how small or large corporations facilitate digital marketing in their daily business and how do they manage such social media to interact with their business partners and suppliers? Also, how often do these companies look for people that majored in communication to manage tasks such as international trade and building corporate relation with business partners?

Do certifications like Hubspot and Google Analytics really help you get a job? I understand the knowledge gained is very valuable but there's not much substantiation. You can do it by yourself on your own time with no one overlooking what you're doing. Do recruiters and companies take that into consideration or is it still looked at in high regard?

Super excited to take this course! I think my creative thinking will help me with assignments. I think after ADV420 I will be able to apply advertising to the real world in a new persepective and look more appealing to companies because of it. Also Derek, what made you want to create the app Fantelope? Ross, did you ever play with the adobe suite (photoshop, indesign, etc.) before you decided to be a designer? Overall for the reading assignments I am wondering why the book was chose in the first place? I'm sure there are many options but why does this book qualify as good enough for our class?

Do you think social media will ever be weaker than other communication methods? Advertising on social media has been popular and dominant in recent years, so I wonder if social media will always be the best communication tool. 

I just so wonder about the digital marketing. What is digital marketing? How does it play an important role in the marketing?  And I also want to know the advantages and disadvantages facing digital marketer> 

This class seems interesting and I hope it will bring us knowledge about digital marketing and social media strategies. My question is, do you think that digital marketing is a promosing sector in the automotive industry? I would like to work in this field after my degree. i hope that my exchange semester at  MSU will bring me new skills to be ready to study in-depth marketing back home in France. 

What exactly does Hubspot quaillfy you for? Does it really make that much of an impact on your resume/opportunity for employment? Why are we submitting resources each week? I know commenting on this blog is our weekly participation but do you get credit for submitting resources? Are these resouces designed to help fellow students or are they for the respective professors?    

What kinds of social media is most effective to do business? and for communication purpose, what is the difference between using other media and social media?

My question is that, the influence of social media are getting larger day by day, people waste a lot of time playing on them and there are many disadvantages of it, so do you think the structure of social media will change in the future to lower the disadvantages?

My question is at what point did you start the process of creating your brand? Did you have "easy" support or did you have to do somethings on your own for a while to get help to move forward in your business ?

Because social media has shaped about every aspect of our lives, us millenials seem pretty interested in taking ADV 420 to receive our New Media Driver's License. What I find most interesting is that this class has the potential to not only improve our skills on social media but also how social media shapes our schooling and major that does not always deal with the technological aspects. For instance, my major (Hospitality Business) really has nothing to do with PR or journalism, but I realize that I will be learning a huge deal about both this semester. With that being said, I am curious how both of these subjects can set me apart from other potential candidates looking for a job in the event planning field? Will this class give me that extra "boost" to get my dream job? And how so?

I really enjoyed class on Saturday and I am looking forward to what the semester brings. I have a couple questions regarding how to distinguish myself from other students who are in my major and also some questions on webdesign. Right now I don't stick out much from those who are majoring in advertising and public relations and I am curious to know if there are any other opproutinites besides getting certified on hubspot that will do this for me? I am really glad you made me aware of those certifications in class on Saturday. My other question is if you know of any type of online courses, similar to hubspot, that teach pointers on web design? I don't know how to create a website, and I would love to learn.

Or what are the most important things you should know how to do in order to get hired, stand out, and contribute to the company? What would you look for in hiring any future candidate? Experience, ability, attitude, school background, resume,ect...

What does being located in Ann Arbor offer your company? How important for a PR/Marketing agency is it that you are located in a region that may or may not already have a competitive player? What is the Ingenex niche?
