Snapchat is losing a ton of money, what does this mean?

Snapchat has filed paperwork for its initial public offering (IPO) and is seeking $3 billion dollars, giving them a value between $20 - $25 billion.

But not all is sun and rainbows in paradise, apparently Snapchat lost $514.6 million in 2016. This is stark contrast to Facebook which already had a billion dollars in profit when they when public.

What do you think this means for Snapchat? Is it doomed to be acquired by a more profitable company? Will they need to attract a wider, more profitable audience? Change their model to attract more advertisers?

Sports App Research

Dear Class,

This week I need your honest opinion.  in full disclosure I'm launching a sports app called Fantelope. It's live in the app stores now but a new version is coming soon.

One of our audience personas is college students who are sports fans. But I have some questions to help us be more relevant to you. I'd appreciate your input.

1. Would you be interested in a sports only social network app as opposed to a broader social network like Facebook or Twitter? Why Or why not?

What have you learned thus far?

You've now attended an entire day of lectures, picked a brand and researched everything said brand does online. I suspect you've learned something new, hopefully, lots of new things.

When I first entered the field of marketing, little fascinated me more than search engine optimization. Understanding how search engines ranked pages and what you could do to increase your rankings felt like a super power.

In the comments tell me something you've learned that excites you.

Pop Culture Roll Call

2017 is gonna be a great year. And IMHO a good year to have some distractions to avoid the news. What is a better distraction than Pop Culture entertainment for that?

So I ask you students, what pop culture do you follow? I'm very curious to hear your favorite band/musician, movie/movies, tv shows, hobbies, anything else?

Key take aways for writing content online.

Throughout this course we emphasize the importance of creating content that fits the medium (i.e. producing “native” content.) This seemingly simple skill can be difficult to master, as every platform is slightly different. That said, there are some fairly universal truths that I hope you’ve picked up on.
